Drew Barrymore shared some very exciting news on the Feb. 23 episode of her talk show, "The Drew Barrymore Show," during which she revealed that she and longtime collaborator Adam Sandler are looking to do another movie together.
During the episode, Barrymore talked to her cohost Ross Matthews about how Tom Hanks and Robin Wright - who starred together in "Forrest Gump" - are teaming up for a new film together. Matthews said, "And I love when people we love in movies like reteam for a movie. So, I'm gonna ask you on behalf of everyone, you and Adam Sandler, are we doing another one?"
Barrymore confessed, "We are definitely talking about it. For sure." Matthews called it "breaking news."
"There's actual conversations happening?" he asked. "There's conversations to find the thing," Barrymore confirmed. "We're always, I think it's very script story specific, and yeah, we're actively seeking the right thing.

Joel Miller has done bad things.
We’ve heard the refrain several times over the course of The Last of Us’ first four episodes. Joel said it. Tess said it. Ellie asked about it. And we’ve seen it for ourselves: Starting in Episode 1, when Joel lost his mind on the guard blocking his exit from the Quarantine Zone, and as recently as Sunday’s hour, which found him finishing off an attacker he easily could’ve let live. As a little girl, I loved watching "Cinderella." It wasn't the princess thing or the handsome prince who comes to save her that appealed to me. I liked the talking mice and birds who helped make her dress, her sparkly shoes, and the idea of a fairy godmother who could help a girl out of a crappy situation. Oh, and those very pretty dogs she gets at the end, which I remember more from the book that went along with the film.
It wasn't until years later that the whole idea of being rescued by a man/abusive treatment of a young woman/princess fantasy started to chafe. Ultimately, it doesn't matter why I liked it as a little kid. I just did, and I was hardly alone. The animated Disney film is considered a classic, despite the reexamination many of us have done over the decades since its release in 1950.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And with its list of new releases for December 2022, Hulu is planning accordingly.
Compared to its rival streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, and HBO Max, Hulu is a bit more holiday forward in the final month of 2022. Sure, all the streaming services are bringing some Christmas content to the table, but Hulu is the only one to plant its flag in a special called It’s a Wonderful Binge. This comedic take on a psychedelic Purge-like Christmas is set to premiere on Dec. 8.
Elsewhere on Hulu this month, subscribers can look forward to the release of FX’s Kindred (Dec. 13). Based on a thrilling novel of the same name, this series follows a woman being violently yanked back and forth in time. In what’s increasingly become a tradition, Canadian comedy Letterkenny will premiere a new season the day after Christmas.

The Yule log is likely roaring on the fireplace of your TV screen — the holidays are upon us. Hulu is going all-in on their Christmas content with a few holiday features, including the debut of their original movie “It’s a Wonderful Binge.” But if you’re looking for a new television series to keep you busy till Christmas it’s all about the adaptation of Octavia Butler’s “Kindred,” the first television translation of any of Butler’s acclaimed literary works, coming to FX on Hulu this month.
Based on Butler’s 1979 novel, “Kindred” focuses on Dana James, a young Black aspiring writer living in Los Angeles with her husband Kevin Franklin. While in the process of moving, Dana abruptly finds herself tossed between the modern day and 1815 Maryland during the Antebellum period of the South. During her journeys to the past, she struggles to survive while trapped at...

Watching “Rosaline” one can’t help but think of the Shakespeare-inspired or period-set films aimed at teens in the late-’90s, like “10 Things I Hate About You” or “Ever After” to name just a couple. They are smart, often stridently feminist through their character’s actions not just their words, and they don’t talk down to their audience or feel the need to make the source material “hip.” Yet, somehow Karen Maine’s latest film, based on a young adult novel by Rebecca Serle, achieves none of those feats.

Drew Barrymore was honored to witness Britney Spears' happily ever after. The talk show host was one of the lucky few who scored an invite to Britney's picture-perfect wedding to Sam Asghari, which she attended June 9 along with Selena Gomez, Madonna and Paris Hilton. Drew is now giving fans the inside scoop of the event, and it seems the entire affair reminded her of her past regal role, playing Danielle in the 1998 movie Ever After: A Cinderella Story. "What I learned from Ever After is that we must rescue ourselves and yet still want the fairy tale," Drew explained on Instagram one day after attending the extravaganza in Los Angeles. "And...

A version of this story first appeared in the Race Begins issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
By the time the “Yellowjackets” Season 1 finale aired in January, Showtime’s drama-horror-dark-comedy had achieved full-fledged phenomenon status. It had amassed near-unanimous critical raves, averaged five million weekly viewers — which made it the second-most streamed series in Showtime’s history, after last year’s “Dexter: New Blood” — and inspired dozens of sub-Reddits bursting with frenzied fan theories.
People were positively obsessed with the saga of forty-something women coping with memories of being stranded as teenagers in the Canadian wilderness following a plane crash. In one timeline, high school soccer players succumb to their most primal instincts as they embrace the occult and inch towards cannibalism; in the other, four adult survivors played by Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis and Christina Ricci grapple with their trauma.

When Florence + the Machine made their debut a little more than a decade ago, the U.K. music scene was awash in the retro-soul typified by Amy Winehouse and Adele. Florence Welch looked backward, too. But her influences were at once more ancient and more modern, marrying a goth melodrama that went back to the Brontës with a New Romantic exoticism that evoked Kate Bush, tied together by a secret-sharing intensity that’s always made Welch feel like an eternal wild child, a feminist warrior, and a sisterly confidante.

Exclusive: Even colleagues of Jordan Helman have noticed an uptick in his mood lately. The head of scripted content at Hulu Originals can’t seem to hide his optimism about the upcoming Emmy season and how, for once, the conversation won’t be laser focused on whether The Handmaid’s Tale takes home another trophy. With its robust slate of originals, Hulu could earn multiple nominations for series such as Only Murders in the Building, Dopesick, Pam and Tommy, The Girl from Plainville and Nine Perfect Strangers.
“I’d be lying if I said we didn’t feel immensely bullish and proud of where we are and what we’ve accomplished, particularly over the course of the last year,” Helman tells Deadline. “We have curated a steady slate of critical and commercial darlings that have not only performed on the platform, but in several cases have really found themselves at the center of the cultural conversation.

There's been a lot of talk lately about streaming and its effect on the theatrical landscape, and not just during the pandemic. One matter that hasn't gotten as much attention involves indie movie theater chains, many of which used to screen films at a lower ticket price after they had done the bulk of their damage at the box office, and right before they hit the home market. Growing up in the 1990s, my parents used to take my siblings and me to see movies at these "Dollar Houses" all the time. I can still clearly recall watching films like "Hocus Pocus," "Ever After,"...

It's taken 20 years, but Jennifer Lopez has flipped the script on what it can look like to be a Latina looking for love. All you have to do is compare her new movie, "Marry Me," which comes out this Valentine's Day weekend, with her 2002 "Maid in Manhattan" rom-com, and you'll notice some major differences. Both films are romantic comedies featuring Lopez falling in love with a white guy across class barriers. But in 2022's "Marry Me," Lopez is the rich and famous person, and her love interest is the normie (Owen Wilson as math teacher Charlie Gilbert). It's the opposite of "Maid in Manhattan," where she played a hotel maid who tries on a guest's designer clothes when US Senate hopeful Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes) meets her and the romance begins.
At the time, "Maid in Manhattan" was described as a Cinderella story, which clearly no one's using to describe Wilson in "Marry Me.

Above: Hungarian poster for The Girl. Designer unknown. It is a banner month for Hungarian Cinema in New York. While the downtown Metrograph is showing six restored classics by the great Miklós Jancsó, uptown at Film at Lincoln Center a major retrospective of the films of the equally important Márta Mészáros starts today. Mészáros was married to Jancsó from 1958 to 1973 and they had three children together, but her quiet, observant, and very personal films could hardly be more different. There is already an excellent primer to Mészáros’s films on Notebook (last year Mubi hosted the online retrospective Independent Women: The Pioneering Cinema of Márta Mészáros in many countries), so I direct you there for more information on her extraordinary life and 60-year career (she is now 90-years-old and made her last film just five years ago). Film at Lincoln Center is cramming eleven of her best films (she’s...

The bar’s so low it doesn’t exactly speak volumes when I say now—of all times, for some reason—is a banner moment for spotlighting Hungarian cinema. As Kino’s fantastic Miklós Jancsó retrospective starts this weekend, Janus has unveiled the trailer for their no-less-fantastic series on Márta Mészáros, a director whose name has perhaps never come up in my years occupying cinephile circles. If film history is a narrow, unforgiving thing, so often at mercy of what’s readily available in acceptable condition, this goes beyond restoration—it constitutes something more like rescue.
And so just the trailer for this series, which runs at Film at Lincoln Center from January 21 to January 26, is a revelation: none of this sparks familiarity, even Isabelle Huppert—star of Mészáros’s The Heiresses—constituting a surprise. In conjunction with Adoption arriving on Criterion in March and an inevitable release of more restorations,...

Revisiting last year's introduction when putting together 2021's favorites, it is with a shock to realize how little has changed in the wildly disrupted world of cinema under the shroud of the pandemic. The urge to copy-and-paste the whole shebang is quite tempting indeed. What can we say about this year, 2021? We got a little more used to long-term instability. Cinemas and festivals re-opened, only for some to close again. We, like many, ventured carefully out into the world to finally see films again with audiences, all kinds: nervous ones, uproarious ones, spartan ones, and delighted ones. It was an experience both anxious and joyous. We also doubled down on the challenges, but also the pleasures, of home viewing: of virtual cinemas and virtual festivals, of straight to streaming premieres, of trying to capture a social joy in semi-isolation by connecting with others over experiences shared and disparate. The long...

Warning: contains spoilers for all episodes of The Girl Before, available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
If you had to place a bet on the more likely murderer between a) a wealthy perfectionist who’s creepily obsessed with controlling women who look exactly like his dead wife, or b) some sadsack everyman who got dumped for being too needy, your money would clearly be on the rich weirdo.
In BBC thriller The Girl Before, architect Edward Monkford played by David Oyelowo is the one who sets off the danger siren. Handsome, moodily intense, wearer of designer suits… with his quasi-contractual sex arrangements and expensive gifts, this modern-day Bluebeard is your classic on-screen danger to women. When his tenant/lover Emma dies after falling down the stairs of his chic, minimalist home, of course he was the one who pushed her. Who else would it be? Her mopey ex, Simon?...

Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most revered entertainers in the history of film, which is why it’s quite bizarre that there haven’t been a lot of portrayals of the director in front of the camera. He was notably portrayed by Anthony Hopkins in a 2012 biopic titled Hitchcock, Toby Jones in The Girl, and Roger Ashton-Griffiths in Grace of Monaco. Given the legacy that this acclaimed director has, these portrayals are simply not enough. Alfred Hitchock invented the psychological thriller genre, innovating film and storytelling techniques to deliver a whole new species of cinema that aims to have audiences at the

2002's "The Ring" rocked audiences everywhere with its terrifying premise of a cursed videotape promising that, after seven days, a little girl with black hair covering her face would crawl out of a well, through your television set, and kill whoever watched it. Based on the 1998 Japanese film, "Ringu," the little girl from "The Ring" went by the name Samara and was played by child actor Daveigh Chase. Samara's appearance is inspired by the Japanese yūrei, a ghastly entity seen in Japanese art and folklore dating back to the 14th century. Samara's white gown is inspired by traditional Japanese funeral...

Hollywood has even taken a step further with the tale creating their own versions like Drew Barrymore’s ‘Ever After’ that focuses more on the before the royal life of Cinderella to modern takes starring Hilary Duff with a lost cellphone in ‘A Cinderella Story’. To say the least, this story has been turned inside out multiple times, so why do it again? Her tiny village is incredibly old-fashioned and doesn’t allow its womenfolk to be in business. As Ella chases her dreams,...
