The first solo album from former Slayer guitarist Kerry King is basically the “Still D.R.E.” of thrash metal.
But where Dr. Dre wanted to remind his fans that he was still puffin’ his leafs, still fucking with beats, and still not lovin’ police after close to a decade’s absence, King wants his fans to understand that even though Slayer are essentially hellbound, he’s still Satan’s preeminent ambassador with furious, jagged riffs and sweet nothings like “Crucifixation” and “Everything I Hate About You.” On From Hell I Rise,...

Having grown up in a religious family, Christian movie night was something that happened a lot more often than I care to admit. However, back when I was a teenager, my parents showed up one night with an unusually cool-looking DVD of a movie that had been recommended to them by a church leader. Curious to see what new kind of evangelical propaganda my parents had rented this time, I proceeded to watch the film with them expecting a heavy-handed snoozefest.
To my surprise, I was a few minutes in when Denzel Washington proceeded to dismember a band of cannibal raiders when I realized that this was in fact a real movie. My mom was horrified by the flick’s extreme violence and dark subject matter, but I instantly became a fan of the Hughes Brothers’ faith-based 2010 thriller, The Book of Eli. And with the film’s atomic apocalypse having...

10. The Cat's Meow (2001)
It’s 1924, and Charlie Chapman is the biggest movie star in history. When a famous producer is murdered on a powerful media magnate’s yacht, there is no media coverage or investigation.
No one knows what truly happened, but the bizarre rumors about Chaplin and his close circle’s involvement in that crime are in the air.
You can watch The Cat's Meow on Prime Video.
9. The Bank Job (2008)
A foolproof bank robbery sounds like any criminal team’s dream, right? There’s only one extra step they must do to satisfy their mastermind, an MI5 agent who orchestrates the robbery: apart from money, they need to steal dirt on a member of the royal family stored in the same bank. Sounds easy, but things go horribly wrong.
You can watch The Bank Job on Netflix and Prime Video.

The Alien Report: "The Alien Report follows "The Abductee" (Braxton Hale), an everyday American who finds himself hijacked by extraterrestrial beings and taken on a terrifying journey of self-preservation, running afoul of classic "grey aliens", disturbing human-et hybrids, and the U.S. government's shady Men in Black. Based on countless documented reports made by self-proclaimed abductees, The Alien Report is a meticulous, straight-faced look at what an real-life alien abduction would be like, from the perspective of first-person cameras.
The Alien Report has screened at festivals worldwide, winning awards in the U.S., UK, Australia, and Brazil. Shot on iPhone and GoPro cameras as a non-traditional narrative composed of re-assembled found footage, the picture plays out as both a sci-fi thriller and first-person documentary. It is the intended first chapter in a trilogy of films about extraterrestrial abductions.
The Alien Report was directed by Patrick Donnelly and produced by Kevin Schroeder and Michael Sell.

While the Marvel Universe continues to chug along and James Gunn attempts to resuscitate the DC universe into something worth watching, we will yet again go back to the world of graphic novels for our inspiration on book vs movie. It’s really a very untapped realm as there are so many good horror comics out there, many without adaptations yet. The ones that have been adapted are very fun and interesting. Today is the mostly forgotten early 2000s movie From Hell (watch it Here), which is based on the stunning and epic graphic novel from famed wizard and all-around cranky dude Alan Moore. Like many graphic novels, the journey to page and then screen was a long and arduous one. It is based on the very real killings in Whitechapel that were later attributed to Jack the Ripper. While both have a lot of truths to them along with...

Exclusive. When the alternative book of film trivia is written, a page will be dedicated to the influence of Leonard Nimoy’s paranormal-themed late-’70s TV show In Search of… on director siblings. It was here that Albert and Allen Hughes first heard about Britain’s most notorious serial killer, Jack the Ripper, beginning an obsession with Victorian London that resulted in their 2001 horror-drama From Hell. And for David and Nathan Zellner, the cultural impact was very similar.
“We loved that show,” recalls David. “As kids, there wasn’t much out there, that we were exposed to, that covered those sorts of things. They’d cover the Loch Ness monster, everything. I remember one about plants, wondering if they were able to think and what kind of music they’d like to listen to. They got really obscure with some of the subjects, but we loved that show. We loved the vibe of it.

Alan Moore no longer receives royalty cheques from DC Comics for films and television series based on his comic books and instead asked the company to give the money to Black Lives Matter. The 69-year-old English author - who is responsible for creating iconic comics such as 'Watchmen', 'V for Vendetta', 'Batman: The Killing Joke' and 'From Hell' among others - is unhappy with the direction that DC has taken with the film adaptations of their characters and so has given up his payments to BLM, the organisation which was founded in 2013 and aims to highlight racism and inequality experienced by black people. Black Lives Matter came to prominence during the 2020 protests that occurred in the wake of the death of George Floyd, who was killed whilst being arrested by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.Speaking to The Daily Telegraph newspaper, Moore...

Alan Moore says he’s pivoted his approach to sharing royalties, now opting to have DC Comics send them to Black Lives Matter.

Rob Zombie, the mastermind behind some of the most polarizing films in the horror genre, has a unique style that’s both gritty and over-the-top. From animated escapades to harrowing tales of terror, Zombie’s filmography is a rollercoaster of emotions. Let’s dig through the ditches of his cinematic world, ranking his horror movies from the least captivating to the absolute best.
Anchor Bay 9. The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (2009)
Kicking off our list is Zombie’s animated foray, The Haunted World of El Superbeasto. This film follows the adventures of a washed-up luchador and his sultry sidekick as they face off against the diabolical Dr. Satan. While the animation style and voice acting are commendable, the film’s raunchy humor and disjointed narrative might not resonate with everyone. It’s a wild ride, but perhaps not the most memorable in Zombie’s oeuvre.

What a night! I just got back from the Pantera and Lamb of God concert at the Freedom Mortage Pavilion in Camden, NJ, and I’m still buzzing from the adrenaline. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot. The crowd was insane, the sound was loud, and the bands were on fire.
Legacy would be a fitting name for this tour, because let no one be mistaken, this is not a Pantera reunion tour by any means, but much more of a statement and tribute to the band’s unrelenting and dynamic legacy. It will never be called a reunion because there is no way that could ever be true, as we are sadly missing two of the band’s founding members, brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott…and they left some very big shoes to fill.

Once upon a time, in a world not so far away, if you wanted to make a phone call, you would have to find a claustrophobic box that housed the invention of Antonio Meucci, Elisha Gray and the one who actually owns the patent on the invention: Alexander Graham Bell: We’re talking of course about the Telephone. For many of you the idea that you couldn’t just reach into your pocket and grab your own personal device that allows you to communicate with anyone and everyone on this big blue planet is unfathomable, yet as recently as just twenty years ago, the sight of someone walking on a street talking to themselves was actually quite the peculiar spectacle. It is with that bit of knowledge that an idea thought up in the 60’s was given a modern day twist to focus on the last remaining telephone kiosk...

Paxton Whitehead, the Tony-nominated British actor best known for his snooty roles on “Mad About You” and in the Rodney Dangerfield comedy “Back to School,” died Friday at age 85, according to his son, Charles Whitehead.
In the latter feature film, he memorably played Dr. Barbay, the disapproving dean of the business school who is horrified to learn that Rodney Dangerfield’s low-brow middle-aged character has bribed his way into college. Whitehead also had a recurring role on ’90s sitcom “Mad About You” as the “neighbor from hell” Hal Conway. The actor additionally guested on a number of series including “Frasier” and “Friends.”

Exclusive: While the title character ended John Wick: Chapter 4 under a headstone, the John Wick franchise is alive and kicking for Lionsgate. This week, Lionsgate brass got a first look at Ballerina, its Len Wiseman-helmed spinoff film that stars Ana de Armas and brings back Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, the late Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston. The big question is, after the last film grossed over $400 million on a $90 million budget, what right minded studio would retire a franchise that just turned in its highest gross and best reviews?
Basil Iwanyk has produced the series since the beginning, and he told Deadline that a lot more will be known by September. That’s when director Chad Stahelski and star Keanu Reeves head to Japan where, Iwanyk said, they will split a couple bottles of whiskey. “Once they get through their hangovers, if Keanu and Chad have figured out something cool,...

Love him or hate him, Rob Zombie has become one of the prominent and unique voices in the modern horror landscape. His style is immediately recognizable, his choices in aesthetics, casting, and music practically codified. I say this not to criticize Zombie; he’s one of my favorite current filmmakers, and I like or love nearly every single one of his movies.
With two of his films celebrating an anniversary this year – Lords of Salem turns 10, House of 1000 Corpses turns 20 – it seemed like the right time to revisit his filmmaking career so far.
Today we’re ranking Rob Zombie’s entire live action filmography to date…
8. 31 (2016)
If I’m being totally honest, this is the one movie on the list I’m not entirely crazy about because, after the relative box office disappointment of Zombie’s experimentation with The Lords of Salem, it feels like he retreated artistically back...

You think we need one more? You think we need one more. What about two more? Ocean’s Eleven star George Clooney has taken a dig at some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but only because they turned down the chance to join the ensemble cast of the 2001 heist film.
Speaking at this year’s TCM Classic Film Festival, Clooney and director Steven Soderbergh sat down with Ben Mankiewicz, where the topic of Ocean’s Eleven and its cast was brought up. Putting the release into context, Clooney said, “Steven had just done Erin Brockovich and Traffic, and he was nominated for directing both films…So, people really wanted to work with Steven.” At that point, Soderbergh interjected, saying that there were still plenty of marquee names that snubbed the project. As Clooney put it, “Some very famous people told us to fuck right off. Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp. There were others.

Watch the teaser trailer above.
According to the official synopsis, “The Continental” will explore “the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins centerpiece of the ‘John Wick’ universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970’s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind.” Winston, who was played by the late, great Lance Reddick in the feature films and is essayed by Colin Woodell from “The Flight Attendant” here, “charts a deadly course...

Twenty years ago, musician-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie combined two types of horror films that he loved — Universal monster movies and the down-and-dirty ’70s provocations of Tobe Hooper and Wes Craven — to create “House of 1000 Corpses,” a film disowned by its original studio that went on to become a cult classic. The tale of two young couples who stumble across a demented backwoods family that engages in torture, cannibalism, and satanic rituals, it’s darkly hilarious and genuinely horrifying, packed with the kind of outrageous nightmare-inducing imagery that would characterize later Zombie works like “The Devil’s Rejects,” “The Lords of Salem,” and “3 From Hell.”
For fans of the film, the jarring juxtaposition of tones is a strength, but according to Zombie, it was less a grand plan than a byproduct of his inexperience as a director. “For a lot of years I was dissatisfied with it because you go in...

MGM head Dore Schary essentially co-opted one of Anthony Mann’s Eagle-Lion projects, hiring Mann, writer John Higgins and the great cinematographer John Alton away from the low budget factory and giving them more money to work‚ with. As‚ in their earlier T-Men, government agents infiltrate a crime ring, this time‚ one exploiting migrant farm workers. Surprisingly violent for Metro, this is one of the greatest looking ‚ black-and-white movies.

Genre regulars Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye have just found their latest horror project to work on – and Shaye is a producer on this one as well! Deadline reports that Moseley and Shaye have signed on to appear in Scared to Death, which will be filming in Los Angeles next month.
Written and directed by Paul Boyd, Scared to Death will tell the story of a group of young filmmakers who enter an abandoned children’s orphanage in order to do research for a movie… and that’s their first mistake.
Scared to Death is coming to us from Mirror Films, and Shaye is producing the film alongside Eric Barrett.
Moseley and Shaye are joined in the cast by Olivier Paris (How I Met Your Father) and Daytime Emmy winner Victoria Konefal (Days of Our Lives).
Moseley and Shaye have both been showing up in horror movies since the 1980s.

Robert Florey directed and Curt Siodmak wrote it, but Luis Bunuel’s fingerprints are allegedly all over the concept for this earliest and best of the crawling hand movies. Dreamlike and intensely creepy, with a thundering Steiner score and Peter Lorre at his pop-eyed best in a role intended for Paul Henried. In any case, a crawling hand turns up in Bunuel’s later The Exterminating Angel.

“The Pale Blue Eye” is one of those movie titles that’s evocative yet teasingly vague — it makes the film sound like a Western based on a song by Lou Reed. Actually, the movie is based on Louis Bayard’s 2006 novel, which uses an 1830s military setting and murder mystery to frame a kind of origin story of Edgar Allan Poe. At West Point, which in the early 19th century is basically a fort in the woods overlooking the Hudson River, a cadet suffers a violent death. He is cut down from a noose hanging from a tree branch (his feet were touching the ground), but it’s what happens after he dies that counts: Someone has made a vertical incision in his chest and removed his heart.
Christian Bale plays Augustus Landor, the haunted eccentric detective who is brought in by the West Point brass to solve the crime.
