Will Smith starred as Agent J in the sci-fi film franchise Men in Black. Based on the popular comics of the same name, the original trilogy was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and was executive-produced by Steven Spielberg. Smith starred along with Tommy Lee Jones in the lead roles in all three films, and it proved to be one of the actor’s breakout roles.
Despite the original film being a huge commercial success and developing a fanbase, the sequels have been regarded as unworthy successors and have been accused of being cash grabs. Filmmaker Sonnenfeld was also reportedly under such extreme pressure to deliver a commercial hit that he almost got a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital.

It was the year 1997 when Will Smith was introduced to the world of aliens alongside Tommy Lee Jones with the release of Men in Black. Being one of the most iconic franchises out there, the world loved the duo of Lee Jones and Smith as Agent K and Agent J, respectively.
With both actors bringing their best in the characters of K and J, people feel that Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are irreplaceable. After trying to replace them once, the film became a failure. Well, there are rumors that the franchise is once again going to attempt a Men in Black film without Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, and the people… aren’t happy.

"Men in Black" is a bit of a strange franchise. For instance: did you know there are actually four movies in the series? I bet you completely memory-holed the 2019 movie "Men in Black: International," but it exists! Hell, you might have even checked out after the disappointing "Men in Black II" and not realized there was a "Men in Black III." And yet, the original "Men in Black," released in 1997, is a near-perfect movie. It blends humor, heart, and incredible visual effects to craft a memorable blockbuster that still holds up to this day. The basic set-up of all the film is the same: a secret government agency known as the Men in Black police outer space alien activity here on Earth. Four movies later, the franchise remains lopsided, but you really can't beat that first film.

The original Fox’s ‘X-Men’ film series cast is the cast that we will associate with some of the most popular Marvel characters in years to come. If you think about Storm it’s impossible not to conjure up images of Halle Berry, or associate Patric Stewart with Charles Xavier.
Famke Janssen, the actress behind the iconic Jean Grey portrayal is still the best live-action Jean Grey, despite Sophia Turner also portraying the character in the latter installments.
With ‘Deadpool 3’ release looming on the horizon and all the various rumors associated with former X-Men characters making a big comeback for Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, it’s impossible not to wonder whether Famke will make an appearance as Jean Grey as well.
The actress herself commented on the rumors in her interview with Screengeek.

The original cast of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ films will forever be linked with some of Marvel’s most beloved characters. When you think of Storm, Halle Berry immediately comes to mind, and Patrick Stewart is synonymous with Charles Xavier. Famke Janssen, who played the iconic Jean Grey, remains the definitive live-action portrayal, even though Sophie Turner took on the role in later films.
As the release of ‘Deadpool 3’ approaches and rumors swirl about former X-Men characters returning for Deadpool’s MCU debut, fans can’t help but speculate if Famke will reprise her role as Jean Grey too.
The actress herself commented on the rumors in her interview with Screengeek.

In the early 1990s, Michael Jackson had plans to buy Marvel to play its most famous superhero, Spider-Man, in a film adaptation. He discussed his plans with none other than the creator of the superhero, Stan Lee, who was a friend of Jackson. However, his plans never materialized. According to one rumor, Jackson may have played a role in Sony acquiring the rights to the character from Marvel.

There’ll be some happy holidays on Prime Video in December, as the streamer’s seasonal offerings hope to keep the fires warm in your home this month!
As such, there are quite a few new original holiday movies coming to the service. At the beginning of the month, Eddie Murphy stars in Candy Cane Lane. In this film, the Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America star plays a determined man who is willing to go above and beyond to win the annual Christmas home decoration contest in his neighborhood – even if it means making a very magical deal.
The DC universe will also be getting festive in December thanks to Merry Little Batman, an animated feature that sees Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, stumble upon a villainous plot on Christmas eve, one that may give him a chance to save the day when his dad isn’t around.

Actor Peter Spellos had over 150 screen acting and vocal performance credits to his name, but genre fans are most likely to remember him as Orville Ketchum from the slasher movie Sorority House Massacre II and its companion piece Hard to Die, as well as the brief appearance he made as the character Tracy’s father in Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. Outside of horror, he’s best known for providing the voice of Sky-Byte in 39 episodes of the animated series Transformers: Robots in Disguise. Unfortunately, we have very sad news to share today, as it has been confirmed that Spellos has passed away at age 69 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on March 1, 1954, Spellos passed away yesterday, November 19th, at the Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis. His brother, James Spellos, notified TMZ that his family is planning an online “celebration of life” gathering for his fans.

Streaming services are now trying to ration their upcoming original content due to the ongoing actors strike and the only recently-resolved writers’ strike, so we’re going to see a thinning-down of new releases across the board over the next six months at least. Hulu will be adding a lot of library TV shows and movies in November, but there are only a few new major original projects hitting the streamer this month.
Hulu’s spotlight streaming series in November is Black Cake, which is based on the bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson. Part family drama, part murder mystery, the show features a globetrotting story that will cover decades of events after a bereaved family find a flash drive that contains some shocking secrets about the hidden history of their late matriarch.

Over the course of three decades, Rosario Dawson has had an incredible acting career. She got her start in the edgy 1995 indie film "Kids," which helped her gain notoriety as a young artist. Throughout the early to mid-2000s, Dawson became a household name following her roles in films like "Josie and the Pussycats," "Men in Black II," and "Rent." She also has notably starred in film adaptations of comic books, including "Sin City" and Netflix's Marvel TV series. Most recently, Dawson can be seen in the Disney+ series "Ahsoka" and "Haunted Mansion," which premiered in July 2023.

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

Prime Video has adapted the one-woman podcast “Empanada Loca” into a new series. “The Horror of Dolores Roach” will begin streaming on the service on July 7. Buckle up, because this one is gruesome. Roach (Justina Machado) returns to a gentrified Washington Heights after a long prison sentence and works as a masseuse in the basement of a friend’s empanada shop. But when her security is threatened, Roach is driven to extremes to survive.
Watch “The Horror of Dolores Roach” trailer:
Season 2 of “Good Omens” also will premiere on Prime Video in July. Arriving July 28, the series focuses on the friendship between Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), a fussy angel and rare-book dealer, and the snarky demon Crowley (David Tennant). While the Apocalypse has been averted, the pair are back living their lives in London, until the archangel Gabriel shows up. The series is based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

A series premiere, a long-awaited season return and a bevy of great movies are new on HBO and HBO Max this month. May 1 marks the series debut of “White House Plumbers,” the new limited series from “Veep” showrunner David Mandel that chronicles the Watergate break-in and fallout. That show airs on HBO and will stream on HBO Max. Then on May 4, the comedy “The Other Two” returns for its third season on HBO Max.
The sixth season of the animated series “Rick and Morty” will be available to stream on HBO Max starting on May 11, and in terms of library titles the “Men in Black” trilogy, the comedies “Step Brothers” and “Some Like It Hot” and Jonah Hill’s directorial debut “Mid90s” all come to HBO and HBO Max this month.

Wait a minute, you might be asking, isn’t HBO Max supposed to be “Max” now? How then, am I seeing a list of HBO Max new releases for May 2023? Well spotted, dear reader. Warner Bros. Discovery did indeed recently reveal that it would be rebranding its combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service as just Max. As the company notes in its press release for May though, that change doesn’t take effect until May 23. What follows is a list of everything coming to HBO Max through May 22.
The biggest releases this month are two TV series that arrive at the beginning of May. White House Plumbers is a comedic take on the infamous Watergate scandal starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. That will be followed by season 3 of The Other Two, which I personally consider the funniest show on television. Catch up now before it’s too late!

HBO Max will officially be replaced by Warner Bros. Discovery on May 23 with a new and improved service called Max. However, that doesn’t mean the service is scrimping on content until then. One of the biggest new releases of the month is the new limited series “White House Plumbers,” which will premiere on May 1. Starring Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the pair portray two real-life Watergate burglars and Nixon saboteurs who ended up destroying the very president they desperately wanted to serve.
Check out the “White House Plumbers” trailer:
The platform will head to the pitch on May 16 with a three-part soccer docuseries “Angel City.” The series goes behind the scenes with the groundbreaking Los Angeles-based professional women’s soccer team, Angel City Football Club. The late '90s/early 2000s were a rough patch for Harrison Ford. Aside from 2000's "What Lies Beneath," the veteran star just couldn't seem to pick the right projects, with everything from 1999's "Random Hearts" to 2002's "Hollywood Homicide" (in which Ford agreed to star without seeing a finished script) struggling to make a critical or financial impression. But perhaps the lowest point came in 2002 when Ford starred in Kathryn Bigelow's sort of historical retelling of a narrowly averted Soviet submarine disaster, "K-19: The Widowmaker."
Loosely based on the story of the Soviet Union's first nuclear-powered submarine, which malfunctioned in 1961 and caused the death of 28 sailors from radiation poisoning, "K-19" was doomed from the outset. The film, as the Chicago Tribune put it, used a "fraction of the truth," noting that this was the National Geographic Society's first foray into blockbuster filmmaking. The company's then head...

While there are many new movies and shows coming to Netflix in December to look forward to, the streamer unfortunately has to cut some great films this month as well. Stanley Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange” along with “A Little Princess” will be leaving this month, among many others.
Oscar-winner “Blue Jasmine” starring Cate Blanchette will also depart in December. The “Men in Black” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” franchise films have a ticking clock as well, not to mention “A Cinderella Story” starring Hillary Duff, Chad Michael Murray and Jennifer Coolidge. Though Daniel Craig’s reprisal of Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion” arrives on Netflix on Dec. 23, one of Craig’s five James Bond films, “Casino Royale” will leave Netflix on Dec. 31.

In 1996, Michael Jackson paraded the globe with the HIStory World Tour, playing 82 shows for over 4.5 million fans. That same year, the King of Pop apparently had his sights set on an entirely different gig: playing Morpheus in a television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman.”
“By 1996, I was being taken to Warners, where the then-president of Warner Bros. sat me down and told me that Michael Jackson had phoned him the day before and asked him if he could star as Morpheus in ‘The Sandman,'” Gaiman said on Josh Horowitz’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. “So, there was a lot of interest in this, and they knew that it was one of the Crown Jewels, and what did I think? And I was like, ‘Ooh.'”

“The Sandman” almost starred the King of Pop.
Creator Neil Gaiman revealed during Josh Horowitz’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that Grammy winner Michael Jackson called the then-president of Warner Bros. to ask to star in a 1990s TV adaptation of the comic book series. Jackson was set on playing Morpheus, the role which Tom Sturridge now portrays in the Netflix series.

Alright, high-five: Patrick Warburton made a surprise guest appearance on “The Bachelorette” as contestant Zach Shallcross’ real-life uncle.
The actor, known for portraying Elaine’s (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) quirky boyfriend Puddy on “Seinfeld,” was first seen in a promo for Monday night’s episode, which saw star Rachel Recchia join the final four (including Shallcross) for hometown dates. In the clip, Warburton says, “I just feel sorry for those other fellas” — in his signature deep drawl that he lent to Kronk in “The Emperor’s New Groove.”
As the video made the rounds on social media, Warburton cheekily tweeted, “I’m being asked ‘why are you on The Batchelorette ?’ [sic] It’s my favorite show? I’m addicted..? I have a crush on that Zach Shallcross fellow? Or…all of the above? Or…Zach is my nephew? Or…all of the above?”

If Steven Spielberg had his way, then “Men in Black” would have been a very important stepping stone in the career of…Chris O’Donnell.
The superstar filmmaker, who was tasked with producing the sci-fi comedy that opened July 2, 1997, thought that the role of Agent J was tailor-made for the rising actor. Although the idea of O’Donnell teaming up with Tommy Jones may seem ludicrous now, it made sense at the time. After all, O’Donnell’s star was at its zenith in the mid-1990s, propelled by buzzy turns in “Scent of a Woman” and “Mad Love,” and not yet brought crashing back to Earth by the disaster that was “Batman & Robin.”
However, the film’s director Barry Sonnenfeld disagreed that the wholesome, hunky O’Donnell was right for the youthful agent. Over a Spielberg-mandated dinner with O’Donnell in which he was intended to convince the actor to sign on,...

Will Smith has been a professional movie star for three decades.
It’s a job that comes with a draining, all-consuming level of scrutiny, but Smith never really seemed to buckle under the weight of the exposure. On red carpets, he’d mug for cameras and seemed to feed off the energy of screaming fans. In interviews and late night appearances, he’d be down for anything, revealing a few intimate details while still maintaining enough of a barricade of privacy to keep his A-list status intact. In professional settings, at lunches and dinners with Oscar voters, Smith would work the room, making eye contact, remembering names, and grabbing shoulders and arms in shows of sincerity with a fluency that would put seasoned politicians to shame. He was the consummate celebrity.

The beef between Will Smith and Chris Rock didn’t last long, according to Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The two actor/comedians got into it during Sunday night’s Oscars ceremony, when Smith smacked Rock on stage for making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.
By the time the afterparties rolled around, Diddy told Page Six that the pair had reconciled.
“That’s not a problem. That’s over. I can confirm that,” the musician said. “It’s all love. They’re brothers.”
Diddy also addressed the conflict just minutes after it happened when he took the stage as a presenter. At the time, he told the men that they’d “solve that like family” at the after party. “But right now, we’re moving on with love,” he added.
Reps for Rock and Smith did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment on whether the pair had resolved the conflict.

It's also been a minute since fans have seen her on their screens. While Boyle starred in popular TV shows and movies (Men in Black II) in the '90s and early aughts, she seemed to take a break...

The cable network’s annual 31 Nights of Halloween lineup features 14 showings of Hocus Pocus, the beloved 1993 film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — and while that may seem like a lot, keep in mind that Freeform aired the Walt Disney flick a whopping 30 (!) times in 2019. (Of course, you can watch Hocus Pocus as many times as you’d like with a subscription to Disney+, but who are we to suggest a commercial-free viewing experience?)

Freeform is wasting absolutely no time getting into the spooky holiday spirit. On Sept. 1, the network unveiled their 31 Nights of Halloween schedule. The marathon features classics like The Addams Family, Casper, and Hocus Pocus - which are all mandatory watching during the month of October - but the list also includes a few not-so-scary films like Shrek, Matilda, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so there's a little something for everyone. The official marathon kicks off on Oct. 1, so get your DVRs ready, grab a bag of popcorn, light your favorite fall scented candle, and get ready for a good time.

By the mid-2000s, Biz Markie was not only a hip-hop legend, but the kind of pop culture personality that seemed to pop up everywhere. And it was always a delight. He was making cameos in movies like Men in Black II, lending his voice to Crank Yankers and cracking jokes on Wild ’N Out. But he could also frequently be found somewhere way more unexpected — the children’s television show Yo Gabba Gabba!

It was the biggest hit in the summer of 1997. Cool, funny, and sometimes deeply weird, it was not quite like anything audiences had ever seen, even as it once again starred Will Smith opposite alien invaders a year after Independence Day. It was a crowd-pleaser that, as Agent J might say, made itself look good. In other words, Men in Black appeared destined to launch countless sequels.

And yet, to date there has never been a Men in Black adventure to capture the charm and ingenuity of that first movie. Sure, Men in Black II made money, but a quick perusal of its Rotten Tomatoes score—currently at...
