It is three o’clock in the morning at a blackjack table inside Las Vegas’s sprawling Caesar’s Palace casino. A woman in town on business has just turned a $150 bankroll into $800, and she moves to retire to the nearby bar to buy her work family, whose fortunes at the same table have varied, a drink.
“I swear I barely know how to play,” she tells them. “But I do know the most important thing is to leave the table before your luck runs out.”
Jean Smart already has five gilded Emmy awards causing her shelves to groan under pressure. She deserves another for her “barely know how to play” nonsense. She has spent the evening feeding me advice on basic blackjack strategy — it’s my first time at the tables — yet I have only two chips left, totaling all of six dollars.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science's membership has always viewed Wes Anderson with wary respect. Beginning with 2001's "The Royal Tenenbaums," the idiosyncratic filmmaker has been nominated for eight Oscars, but aside from "The Grand Budapest Hotel", the majority of voters seem puzzled by his movies. Some people outright hate them and trust me when I say that they cannot be swayed.
And if a film as warm and brilliantly constructed as last year's "Asteroid City" can't even snag what would've been Anderson's fourth Best Original Screenplay nod, there's no reason to believe he'll ever win over enough voters to take home a competitive Oscar in any of the feature categories (unless he drops the artifice and makes a more straightforward comedy about eccentrics like "Terms of Endearment").
The shorts categories, however, are a different story.

Olivia Rodrigo has dropped the music video for “get him back!,” one of many highlights off her brand-new sophomore album Guts.
“get him back!” is as much about seeking revenge on a former partner as it is about wanting to kiss and make up with them. So, it’s fitting that the tune’s music video features no fewer than eight identical Olivias, almost as if they’re each representing one of the contradicting voices in Rodrigo’s head telling her to key this scumbag’s car — but wait, what if she can fix him?!?!
The surrealist clip was directed by Jack Begert, who’s also behind similarly eye-catching music videos like Doja Cat’s “Juicy” and Amine’s “Blackjack.” This one boasts no shortage of smashed car windows, trashed bedrooms, and thrown steak knives, but the good news it looks like no Olivia Rodrigos were harmed in its making.

San Francisco, Sep 5 (Ians) Hackers have withdrawn nearly $41 million from cryptocurrency gambling site Stake likely via a stolen private key.
Stake confirmed the hacking on X (formerly Twitter), saying that unauthorised transactions were made from Stake’s Ethereum (Eth)/Binance Smart Chain (Bsc) hot wallets.
“We are investigating and will get the wallets up as soon as they’re completely re-secured. User funds are safe,” the company informed.
Stake said that other crypto wallets like Btc (Bitcoin), Ltc, Xrp, Eos, Trx + remain fully operational.
After draining the funds, the alleged attacker distributed them to multiple accounts.
The company’s Co-founder Ed Craven said that “Stake keeps a small portion of its crypto reserves in hot wallets at any given moment for these very reasons,” implying that the losses are a small percentage of the total and will not affect users, reports Cointelegraph.

A proposed class action lawsuit is accusing Roblox of knowingly profiting off third-party websites where kids can gamble with its digital currency Robux.
Rachel Colvin and Danielle Sass filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, saying their kids have lost “thousands of Robux” on sites like RBLXWild.
For those not familiar with Roblox and/or RBLXWild, here’s a breakdown: Robux have to be purchased on Roblox‘s platform with real-world money. It costs around $10 for 800 Robux. Once those Robux are in a user’s account, they can be used within Roblox‘s thousands of different user-created games and digital stores to buy virtual items like cosmetics for players’ avatars.
But there are ways to use Robux off the official Roblox platform, too. RBLXWild is one of them: It pitches itself as an “exclusive Roblox case opening site, upgrade and battle opening website.

“Streaming” is the keyword in today’s media. We stream our movies and our music, we watch live streams of the latest news, and we even follow lectures and classes via video streaming over the internet. But streaming has made its way into a major branch of the entertainment industry that many wouldn’t’ve expected: gaming. Here’s how.
Gameplay videos are (still) all the rage
Felix Kjellberg, aka PewDiePie, was the man behind the YouTube channel with the most subscribers ever. He reached this position by posting gameplay videos – his “Let’s Plays” featured mostly action and horror games, and were genre-defining. His meteoric rise and massive fan base, not to mention his net worth, have proven two things: that you can indeed make a living off playing video games, and that the public wants to watch others play video games.

Have you ever wondered why the gambling business has never stopped filmmakers from using casinos in their films, although they are frequently associated with criminal activity? It is because no marketing compares to that of the entertainment industry. Most companies have invested in boosting their products because the actors generate traffic to their respective industries. The players in the movies, as in real life, are given a non-sticky bonus to entice them into the various casinos.
Iconic characters, such as celebrities, have a tremendous fan base, and their ardent admirers would do anything to live like them. The film business contributes to global trend-setting. Casinos are not successful or popular because of the gaming experience they provide. Even with the negative image projected by the movies by tying the industry to illicit activities, the movie industry has played a vital role by merely portraying the activities in a casino in various casino movies.

Many movies choose to feature a casino as part of their story and there are plenty of reasons as to why they are included. The most obvious reason for a casino to feature in modern film is because it is a great setting for an interesting plot to take place. If the film is based in or on a casino, a gambler, or a casino game, it is clear one is going to be included in the movie. The topic could be about professional gambling or someone who runs a casino, in which case, the bulk of the movie is going to feature a casino.

Keanu Reeves is on the record as saying he's "always wanted" to play Wolverine, but has indicated he's too old to bring the semi-immortal superhero to life. (As though everyone isn't well aware that Reeves is secretly a centuries-old vampire masquerading as the nicest guy in Hollywood.) So, in-between eating sandwiches on park benches, he went and did what anyone who really wants to portray an X-Man would do: he co-created his own comic book series about an unkillable warrior battling his way through the ages. With Blackjack! And, well, you know how the rest of the meme goes.

“You get a job, you become the job.” That’s what a veteran cabbie named Wizard tells born-again hack Travis Bickle in Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver,” which Paul Schrader wrote just before he turned 30. “I envy you, your youth,” he goes on to say. “Go on, get laid. Get drunk. Do anything. You got no choice, anyway. I mean, we’re all fucked. More or less.” As Travis learns the hard way a few reels later, Schrader typically falls on the side of “more,” but not without any margin of error.
Many of the films that Schrader went on to direct himself — especially the ones whose very titles enshrine a certain vocation — have revisited the “God’s lonely man” archetype he received like communion from Robert Bresson, each of these implosive portraits cloaking their lead character’s private anguish underneath whatever profession they’ve chosen to wear like a costume.

I’m a sucker for card-sharp movies, and I’m not alone. The allure of films like “The Cincinnati Kid” or “California Split” or “Rounders” is that the poker games have the quality of athletic showdowns: the kind of hand-to-hand, eyeball-to-eyeball aggression we associate with a contest taking place in a gladiatorial arena. But in a card movie, it’s all done sitting in chairs, with mental acuity (and fate!) as the only weapon. Great poker scenes, in their slyly civilized cards-close-to-the-vest way, formalize the desire to destroy your opponent, but they’re also layered with a drive to psych him out that most combat scenes don’t have. To me, the single greatest movie card sequence is the Texas hold ’em tournament at the center of “Casino Royale.” It’s a little movie unto itself, and the currents of strategy and malevolence and sheer nimble play that pass between...

Green covers the screen as the opening credits for Paul Schrader’s “The Card Counter” surface. The color and texture come from the felt distinctive to casino tables. But this isn’t a study on greed for cash, in spite of what the palaces of gambling where it mostly occurs might suggest. What’s bet on with every played hand is absolution, the potential cleansing of a specter’s soul.
Men with moral vendettas are the veteran writer-director’s objects of fascination. Saints are too facile to be subjects to inspire his sordid plots, but those with dubious pasts and a righteous, self-imposed mandate for vindication are dramatic aces. His vehicle for this latest oft-gripping but ultimately mild work is William Tell (Oscar Isaac), a former military interrogator jailed for carrying out the dehumanizing torture practices his superiors ordered. Not much else emerges about him as far as the specifics of his personal life.

When Rain Man was released in 1988, the film immediately received praise from the public and from critics, going on to gross more than any other film that year. Even those who never watched the movie inevitably learned something new. Some were intrigued by Dustin Hoffman’s character’s ability to count cards in blackjack. Others wanted to learn more about the life of savants.
Thirty years after the film’s release, some critics have looked back at Rain Man, written by Barry Morrow, and wondered if the film’s initial praise was too kind. Once again, some focused on the film’s treatment of Hoffman’s character, named Raymond, who is an autistic savant. They wondered if the character helped shed light on the condition or misrepresented autism.

Against the star-spangled, quilted backdrop of what looks like it could be a friendly, amateur Fourth of July talent show, Jane Fonda, Donald Sutherland, and the company of the Fta Show raise their fists and middle fingers to the United States Armed Forces. They’re accompanied by the raucous cheers from thousands of enlisted service members who make up a fraction of the reported 64,000 total GI attendees over the course of the Fta Show’s tour through U.S. military bases in Hawai’i, the Philippines, and Japan. At each station they delight in having an outlet to tell their employers to screw off and set the date to get them back home.

Monopoly is just a boring family board game for a rainy afternoon, right? Wrong. Actually, Monopoly is much bigger than you probably expect. The history of the game can be traced back around 100 years, with Lizzie Magie’s The Landlord’s Game being its inspiration. Nowadays Monopoly is nothing short of a juggernaut, with keen players even able to take part in tournaments like the U.S. National Championship and the Monopoly World Championships. Here is how Monopoly became one of the biggest game brands in the world, up there with Game of Life.
Monopoly – a brief history
The Landlord’s Game was self-published in 1906 and paved the way for Monopoly to be developed as a top board game of the era. It took until the 1930s until a game bearing the name Monopoly was released, with Parker Brothers having purchased its copyright, as well as the rights to Magie’s patent.

The casino industry has been booming for the past 20 years. Statistics show that with the advent of mobile apps, winnings have grown to more than 41% for the industry. In fact, over the course of 2020, the market value of the industry grew by over a whopping $8 billion. The global gambling market is predicted to continuously grow rapidly for many years to come.
Aside from the ease of access to mobile, there are other reasons as to why it will keep growing. It’s a way to win some money, escape everyday life, and well, it’s really fun. Personally, I think there is a certain allure behind it. The taste of constant defeats makes the victory taste even sweeter. It’s ironic, almost oxymoronic even – how losing feels just as fun as winning. Of course, there are some factors that come into play that make gambling games so fun. Such as…...

This weekend is Halloween and Focus Features is delivering some scares with the Jacob Chase-directed horror Come Play, which opens in theaters starting today.
Come Play is based on Chase’s 2017 short film Larry. The feature version which is dubbed as “a terrifying new vision in horror” follows Oliver (newcomer Azhy Robertson), a lonely young boy who feels different from everyone else. Desperate for a friend, he seeks solace and refuge in his ever-present cell phone and tablet. When a mysterious creature uses Oliver’s devices against him to break into our world, Oliver’s parents (Gillian Jacobs and John Gallagher Jr.) must fight to save their son from the monster beyond the screen.
The horror film was set to open in theaters on July 24, but like all movies, the release date shifted due to the pandemic. However, to release the movie on Halloween weekend seems more appropriate. Sony...

When we look at how different generations are defined, it’s interesting to look at how times have changed and what appeals to those varied age groups. From the Baby Boomers of the 1950’s and 1960’s, to the Gen X of the 1970’s and 1980’s, to Gen Y or Millennials as they’re frequently labelled, entertainment has changed throughout each generation.
As the current nomenclature for the youngest generation, “Gen Z” are considered to be those born between 1996 and 2015, ranging in age between 5-24 years old. They have also been born into an entirely different world of entertainment compared to their forebears given how popular entertainment has evolved over the years.
Watching movies at the cinema, going out to a casino or bingo hall, attending concerts, visiting amusement arcades, even sitting around a table playing board games; all of these forms of entertainment were popular in the past. Actually, they...

HBO released the trailer for its Craig Carton documentary, “Wild Card: The Downfall of a Radio Loudmouth,” and it looks just as nuts as the morning-show jock.
“Wild Card” charts the rise and bizarre fall of prominent New York sports-radio personality Craig Carton, the host of former Wfan 660 morning show “Boomer & Carton.” His running mate from that No. 1 program, former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, is prominently featured in the doc — as are several of Carton’s other colleagues from those days on top.
Watch the trailer via the video above.
Esiason now shares the Wfan morning show with Gregg Giannotti.
Through a series of first-person interviews with Carton and others, the film reveals how the radio host’s secret insatiable gambling addiction — financed by an illicit ticket-broking business — brought his career to a sudden halt when he was arrested by FBI agents and charged with conspiracy, wire fraud and securities fraud on Sept.

Movies have been an essential aspect of our culture since their inception. There are often instances where they influence public options. From the early era of cinema movies on gamblers and casinos, lifestyle has been quintessential for the audience as well as the film industry.
Many of them accurately represent everything that revolves around the gambling world, such as that feeling to win, urge to keep playing in the hopes of hitting the big jackpot, despair and thrill, and so on.
Before Hollywood started making movies about casinos, there was a widespread misconception that it is a leisurely activity that is exclusively for the rich. However, with the dawn of the genre for casino-related movies, audiences’ mindset changed towards gambling.

21 is an alternative name for blackjack and the name of a 2008 American film. The movie follows an MIT professor and a group of students who carry out heists at Vegas casinos by card counting and covert signalling on blackjack games. The popular movie is inspired by the true story of the MIT Blackjack Team in which a group of students and ex-students from MIT actually used card counting to beat casinos at blackjack.
What Is Card Counting?
Card counting is a gambling strategy used on blackjack games. Players who utilise this strategy are effectively trying to decrease the casino house edge while keeping a tally of the cards the dealer moves through in the deck. By following the cards, the player will be able to guess which cards are more likely to turn up in the next hand and will allow the player to understand when to bet big or small.

Movies such as Casino Royale, 21, Rain man, and Maverick have done a lot to popularize gambling and show the layman how casino games play out. Unfortunately, they have also created gambling setups that simply wouldn’t work in real life.
What the movie industry doesn’t seem to understand is that casino games are already fun as they are. Stubborn Hollywood producers always try to squeeze more thrill and excitement out of any casino scene and this sometimes backfires. The results are gambling mistakes which are hard to ignore.
