When it comes to kind celebs in the realm of showbiz, Keanu Reeves is often the first name to pop up, and for good reasons. From his involvement in several charities to the actor once accompanying his fellow stranded travelers on a road trip, there are a plethora of stories to support the claims of the actor being an upstanding guy.
But The Matrix actor isn’t the lone star in Hollywood who never shies away from making his fans’ day, as Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo is also walking in Reeves’ footsteps.

The highest-paid actors in Hollywood — Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., Keanu Reeves, and others — could easily command millions of dollars in upfront salary. For Avengers: Endgame, Downey Jr. earned a $20 million upfront salary and a $75 million total income. The precedent for these humongous salaries was Elizabeth Taylor’s upfront salary of $1 million for Cleopatra.

The British-American actress worked in the industry for nearly seven decades. She was cast in Cleopatra after she completed her contract at MGM Studios. 20th Century Fox, who produced the film, recognized her incredible talent and offered her a massive guaranteed salary along with a percentage of the gross profits.

Christopher Nolan kicked off his Dark Knight trilogy with 2005’s Batman Begins. The film delved into the origins of Bruce Wayne as a child, confronting his fears and slowly growing up to be the vigilante we know as Batman. The trilogy became the most celebrated superhero trilogies of all time, exploring the characters’ eccentricities in a grounded and nuanced way.
Batman faces off against Bane in The Dark Knight Rises
By the time The Dark Knight Rises rolled around, the character had suffered a great loss and had become a recluse. A disillusioned Bruce Wayne was thrown into an underground prison by Bane. Instead of Nolan, his brother Jonathan Nolan came up with this interesting idea that harkened back to the first film where a young Bruce Wayne fell into a well.

25 years ago, The Matrix fever swept the whole world, as the Wachowskis’ movie made a revolution in sci-fi and action films and set new standards in cinematography. Despite its brand-new visual effects, the main point there was the film’s groundbreaking concept of people trapped inside a simulated reality by the intelligent machines.
Surprisingly, there is a movie that was released one year earlier and offered a more curious science fiction idea to the audience. Even though the memories of this film became overshadowed by its more popular successor, the genre’s lovers assure it’s even better than Matrix and deserves much more hype.
Its plot revolves around an amnesiac man, who awakens in an unfamiliar place and then finds himself suspected of murder. Doubting his own guilt, he moves around the city meeting mysterious men with superpowers, who interfere with his investigation of the past events and of...

10. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1967)
With the backdrop of the Civil War, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is already pretty epic by default — but it only gets better. Three bounty hunters have to forge an uneasy alliance to find stolen gold before their competitor does, but they don’t trust each other and anyone else. High stakes, high tension, and pure adrenaline.
You can watch The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Apple TV and Prime Video.
9. The Godfather (1972)
The first movie in Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic trilogy, The Godfather is often dubbed the best gangster movie in history, and that might just be right. Post-wwii America is still largely ruled by the mafia, and the wise and cunning Godfather leads one of them through tumultuous times as he prepares a transfer of power in the family.

Over the last two decades, Christopher Nolan’s name has been solidified as one of the most distinct minds that has emerged in modern filmmaking. The filmmaker’s career is on a roll as he went from doing low-budget indie films to creating Oppenheimer which had an explosive effect on the film industry. Nolan is notorious for pushing the limits of filmmaking.

In each of his films, he would push the idea to its limits as he keeps bringing something new to the table; such was the case with his 2014 sci-fi drama Interstellar, featuring Matthew McConaughey in the lead. The film was something that had never been seen before in the history of filmmaking. The film was praised by everyone, including Quentin Tarantino praising the director for his imaginative skills and creative vision.

Matt Damon has scored some of the best action roles throughout his career, with one of the most prominent ones being that of the iconic spy Jason Bourne in his blockbuster film series. But as much as he earned a critical commendation for that one role, there was a time when even the first film from the saga almost didn’t get made.
Matt Damon. | Credit: Nomoretitanic/Wikimedia Commons.
The reason behind this was the creative differences between the mastermind Doug Liman, who helmed the masterpiece The Bourne Identity, and the production studio Universal Pictures. In fact, had it not been for Damon acting as a mediator between the two, this unarguably most difficult movie of all the films from the series just may have never been brought into existence!

John Wick is undeniably one of the most successful franchises by director Chad Stahelski, and a major milestone for Keanu Reeves as well who is so loved in the role that fans can’t imagine anyone else as the titular character besides him. However, even before the first movie’s launch, someone had brutally negative thoughts and predictions on how it would turn out to be.
John Wick.
Surprisingly enough, this someone was none other than the mastermind Stahelski himself, who even predicted that the film would be such a massive failure that it would go “straight to video.” But what’s even more stunning than the filmmaker’s own predictions on his blockbuster saga was the fact that Reeves was never supposed to lead the franchise the way he ended up doing!

All eyes at this year’s Cannes Film Festival will be on the hotly anticipated premiere of Francis Ford Coppola’s self-funded epic Megalopolis. Laurence Fishburne is part of the ensemble cast and is no stranger to debuting a pricey, high-profile project at Cannes.
In 2003, Fishburne hit the Croisette for the Wachowskis’ action sequel The Matrix Reloaded, in which he reprised his role as Morpheus after originating the character in the 1999 sci-fi smash. Also in attendance was Fishburne’s then-wife Gina Torres, who played Cas in the sequels.
After The Matrix introduced viewers to Neo (Keanu Reeves), a computer hacker who discovers that humans have been enslaved in a simulation engineered by AI machines, Reloaded catches up six months later with Neo’s journey alongside Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus as they battle the Machine Army. Twenty years ago, Troy and its cast made its mark on epic filmmaking. Director Wolfgang Petersen’s take on Homer’s Iliad featured an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt and created a wildly entertaining, if not entirely accurate, movie.
Working from a script by future Games of Thrones showrunner David Benioff, the Troy cast brought to life legends like Achilles, Helen of Troy, and Hector. Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger were among those who joined Pitt in the impressive cast. While many of the actors haven’t made another film on Troy‘s scale, they continue to perform in blockbuster movies 20 years later.

Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are among the most iconic pairings of all time. Having starred together in 1994’s Speed, the two have been a fan favorite casting, with many wanting to see more of them on-screen. Unfortunately, such a miracle is yet to happen, for after starring in The Lake House (which hardly featured them together), they have never managed to work together.

Last year, big screen icon Arnold Schwarzenegger made his small screen debut, starring as stogie-smoking CIA operative Luke Brunner in Netflix's action-comedy Fubar. With millions of viewers tuning in to see the streamer's Chief Action Officer in, er, action, a second season was greenlit within weeks. And with production already underway on Brunner's return, we now know who Luke and spook daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro) will be facing this time around — and folks, they're going to have their work cut out for them. Hugo Weaving’s iconic way of speaking has become synonymous with villainous roles, but the actor is no stranger to playing positive characters, with one notable example being Elron Half-elven. Appearing in all three The Lord of the Rings entries, Weaving played the character to perfection and was lauded by fans and critics for bringing the character’s archaic style of speech to life.

The decade of the 1990s can be considered the essential era of movie history, as it paved the way for all modern cinematography. We all know Tarantino and Lynch’s masterpieces, however, there are lots of films which gained unfairly less attention.
Here are 7 movies of that decade, picked by Reddit, claimed to be must-watches for all.
1. Go (1999)
Directed by the Road House filmmaker Doug Liman, this comedy thriller was considered to be even a “junior” Pulp Fiction. It tells four captivating interlinked stories over the course of one night in LA, narrated non-linearly and from several different viewpoints.

Next comes the star-studded crime drama, following a group of men, who are given a chance to perform revenge on a guard brutalizing them at a detention center. It stars such movie giants as Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Bacon.

Before crafting the likes of Thanos and Killmonger, who are often considered some of the top Cbm villains, the MCU often struggled to get their villains right, which was apparent in their initial phases. However, the biggest exception during the cinematic giant’s early years was Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving, who did an impeccable job playing the Hydra head.
Unfortunately, despite having a blast playing the character, Weaving didn’t return to reprise the role in Avengers: Infinity War and was replaced by The Walking Dead star Ross Marquand. Although The Matrix star has cited paycheck disputes as the reason for not returning in Infinity War and Endgame, economics doesn’t seem to be the lone reason behind his absence.

Kevin Costner has turned his Santa Barbara home into a fully-fledged post-production facility. In one room, editors are cutting the first leg of Horizon: An American Saga he’ll premiere in Cannes. In another, an editor is working on Part Two. In a third, there is an assemblage of a documentary on the making of the four-film series. Down the road is the 10 acres of property that Costner put on the table to make his dream post-Civil War project a reality. Here, he discusses this adventure in serialized storytelling, following a group of characters riding west, and the drama surrounding his pending exit from Yellowstone.
Deadline: You’ve risked a lot of money here on a film you’ve ruminated on for decades. How does it feel, having one finished and headed to Cannes, and a second close to being done?
Kevin Costner: That’s kind of an interesting question.

Quentin Tarantino is undoubtedly one of the finest filmmakers of our time. But as much as he is a passionate filmmaker, he is also a passionate cinephile: having absorbed the best that contemporary cinema has to offer since childhood, Tarantino bases his work on the most recognizable tropes and directorial styles, creating a refined pop culture mishmash. And as a huge film buff, Tarantino shared a list of the 20 films he 'admires the most' in a conversation with Sky Movies in 2009.
20 Must-Watch Movies According to Tarantino
Before we get to the list itself, it's important to note that it's not in order of importance, but in alphabetical order. Except for the number one, because for Tarantino it is 'favorite movie that has come out in the last 17 years.' Besides, as he pointed out, this is one of the few movies he would personally dream of directing.

Carrie-Anne Moss, best known for her iconic role as Trinity in 'The Matrix' franchise, is set to join Arnold Schwarzenegger and the cast of "FUBAR" for the show's second season on Netflix.
Moss will play Greta Nelso, described as a former East German spy who has a "passionate history" with Schwarzenegger's character, Luke Brunner. In the new season, Luke finds himself facing off against villains from his past, including an old flame (Moss) who threatens to destroy the world.
"We're thrilled to welcome Carrie-Anne Moss to the cast of "FUBAR" for what promises to be an action-packed second season," said creator and showrunner Nick Santora. "Her character Greta Nelso adds an exciting new dynamic as a nuanced adversary with complicated ties to Arnold's Luke Brunner."
In addition to Schwarzenegger and Moss, Season 2 will see the return of Monica Barbaro, Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, Jay Baruchel, Aparna Brielle, Andy Buckley, Milan Carter, Fabiana Udenio, and Barbara Eve Harris.
The satirical spy series, produced by Skydance Television, follows CIA operative Luke Brunner (Schwarzenegger) who finds himself thrust back into action after saving his daughter during an intended retirement mission in Season 1.

A release date for the eight-episode season has not been announced yet. The series is executive produced by Santora, Schwarzenegger, Adam Higgs, Scott Sullivan, and others.

The unprecedented era of science fiction and high-octane action that defined the turn of the 20th century with the Wachowski siblingsʼ film franchise The Matrix set in motion a predestined narrative for the leading star Keanu Reeves. What the Wachowskis did for Reevesʼ career in 1999 slowly led to his intro into kung-fu in the John Wick franchise which in turn helped the Wachowskisʼ return in the fourth Matrix sequel, bringing the director and actorʼs Hollywood stories full circle.

As such, the martial arts and gun-fu training that defined every muscle memory of The Matrix lead kicked into high gear when he was called onto the sets of The Matrix Resurrections.

For Keanu Reeves, the foreboding shadow of violence has loomed large over his reputation as Mr. Nicest Guy in Hollywood ever since he retracted out of Oliver Stoneʼs Platoon in 1986. His decision to avoid on-screen brutality lasted all but 8 years before his action-man persona took over Hollywood and charmed critics and fans alike in the adrenaline-chasing blockbuster Speed in 1994.
What followed soon after was a gallery of his lifeʼs work encompassed within the works of the Wachowskisʼ The Matrix trilogy (1999-2003), Constantine (2005), 47 Ronin (2013), and most importantly, the franchise of John Wick (2014-present).

1999 was an amazing year for movies. But, among all the classics like The Matrix, Fight Club, Being John Malkovich, Magnolia, Go, Three Kings, and so many more, one that often gets overlooked is The Mummy. Originally, the summer of ’99 was supposed to be all about Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, but a few weeks before that movie opened, The Mummy turned out to be an unexpected smash for Universal Pictures, with it spawning two sequels, a spin-off movie, and (less cool), a reboot.
With the movie turning twenty-five, the film’s director Stephen Sommers, revisited the film during an extended sit-down with THR. For those who may not be aware of his career, Sommers made a whole slew of super-fun adventure movies in the 90s, including a really solid re-imagining of The Jungle Book for Disney and the creature feature Deep Rising. The 2000s saw the action genre in a state of flux. The Matrix revolutionized everything at the end of the previous decade, The Bourne Supremacy would make shaky cameras standard practice in 2004, and the MCU would take flight with Iron Man in 2008. At the same time, Michael Bay reached his ultimate form with Bad Boys II, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Kill Bill made kung fu classy, and Oldboy changed the way we look at hallways.
Within those changes came a host of greats that didn’t get the same attention. Some of these movies represent the first steps in the development of those who would define the genre, such as Scott Adkins and Gareth Evans. Some find stars at the height of the powers, such as Donny Yen and Michael Jai White. And some are just cool, because that’s really all an action movie needs.

The ‘90s were a glorious time. That may be a bit of a generalization, but for the purposes of reflecting on the power of Hollywood at the time and its willingness to back mid-budget, practical action films, we’re choosing to cast a halcyon glow over the era. One of the standout films from this genre and time period is “Speed,” which celebrates its 30th anniversary next month. In honor of this milestone, Kris Tapley recently spoke with the film’s stars, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, for his “50 Mph” podcast dedicated to excavating “Speed” lore.

Commenting on its success — grossing 10 times its budget, winning two Oscars, and becoming regarded as one of the best action films of all time — Bullock added, “It was unexpected. George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise features several iconic villains, including Darth Vader, whose presence was integral to the success of the original trilogy of films. As a result, when Lucas decided to work on the prequel trilogy, he wanted to create an antagonistic force that could rival the on-screen presence of Vader.
Darth Maul was first introduced in 1999’s The Phantom Menace.
As a result, Lucas created the fan-favorite character of Darth Maul, who was introduced in the first prequel trilogy film. However, Maul was killed off unceremoniously at the end of the film. Nonetheless, Lucas eventually regretted the decision to kill off such a beloved and fascinating character. Here is what George Lucas has said about Darth Maul’s creation and the decision to kill him off.

“I’d direct an Agent Smith origin story,” Jane Schoenbrun tossed out on X, formerly known as Twitter, on the morning of April 3. The shout-out to the AI antagonist of “The Matrix” was posted in the hours after Warner Bros. announced a fifth film in the science-fiction franchise, with writer-director Drew Goddard taking the reins from series creators Lana and Lilly Wachowski, who both came out as trans after the release of the original trilogy.
“I was always kind of like, ‘Oh, they would probably let me do a “Matrix” movie, if I asked.’ Because trans,” jokes Schoenbrun, who identifies as nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. The director keeps a casual tone, but their interest in Agent Smith is enthusiastic and thoughtful.

George Lucas, the rebel and the legend, created a living legacy in his lifetime with the Star Wars franchise that represents more human emotions than the species in itself. With each film representing one human emotion – from retribution to love – the franchise soon spawned into a global conglomerate, impossible to be controlled by any one man or be limited to his vision only.

In “The Fall Guy,” Ryan Gosling plays Colt Seavers, the stunt double for Hollywood action star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Seavers, like “The Fall Guy” director David Leitch and stunt designer Chris O’Hara, got his professional start as a stunt performer before 1999, when “The Matrix” served as a turning point for the profession.
“When my generation came in, ‘The Matrix’ was a big influential time in my career as a stunt performer,” said Leitch on the IndieWire Toolkit podcast. The director worked as a stunt performer on Lana and Lilly Wachowski’s 1999 groundbreaking film. “I learned [and] became heavily exposed to wire work.”
Not only did “The Matrix” successfully integrate wire work, which had become a staple in 1980s and ’90s Hong Kong action films when they hired legendary Chinese fight choreographer Yuen Woo-ping, but the film broke ground in combining practical stunts with visual effects.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 6
Star Trek: Discovery (mostly) gets its final season back on track after last week’s flashback-filled snoozefest, but Michael and company’s search for the next clue hits a snag when the trail leads to a pre-Warp planet whose lack of technology makes accessing it more of a challenge than anyone expected. It’s a shift that comes as a welcome relief—the best part of this more adventure-oriented season has been its old-fashioned space explorer feel as Burnham and her crew bounce from planet to planet (or random interdimensional pocket of space). And it’s nice to finally get back to that, even if the planet Halem’no isn’t quite as exciting a side quest as some of us (read: me) may have wanted it to be.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Leaked Footage Features An Intense Force Battle And A Badass Carrie-Anne Moss
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace returns to theaters this weekend to celebrate its 25th anniversary. With a month or so before The Acolyte premieres on Disney+, Lucasfilm is looking to build hype for that by attaching an extended preview to the 1999 movie.
Now, that sneak peek has leaked online (via SFFGazette.com) and it features an edge-of-your-seat clash.
The clip kicks off with Amandala Stenberg's Mae entering a cantina and approaching a hooded figure who we soon learn is Carrie-Anne Moss's Jedi Master Indara.
A fight ensues which highlights martial arts and the Force, with Indara eventually wielding her green lightsaber as the footage comes to an end (it's then followed by a previously released trailer). The action here is top-notch and may sway those who have written The Acolyte off before it's even begun.
"She is very much inspired by Trinity," showrunner Leslye Headland previously said of Indara,...

It’s almost hard to imagine anyone else doing Bill Cutting in place of the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York, or Tim Robbins’ Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption but Hollywood veteran Tom Hanks came pretty close to playing several iconic characters including Cutting and Dufresne. The actor was also in negotiation to play one of Keanu Reeves’ roles.
Tom Hanks and Tyler Hoechlin in Road to Perdition
Of course, it’s not John Wick, it would have been kind of weird seeing Hanks as John Wick, as for fans, Reeves was immersed in the character and he is now hard to replace. But Hanks almost booked the slot of the 1994 hit action thriller, Speed. But the role eventually went to the John Wick star.

The new "Star Wars" series "The Acolyte" knows the truth that we all figured out in 2016 but then apparently forgot: Manny Jacinto should be in everything.
The actor, who put in one of the funniest TV performances of the past decade as Jason Mendoza in "The Good Place," hasn't appeared on screen nearly often enough since that sitcom's end, but "The Acolyte" is about to change that. The upcoming Disney+ series features an impressive ensemble cast, including "Bodies Bodies Bodies" star Amandla Stenberg, "Logan" breakout Dafne Keen, and "The Matrix" series alum Carrie-Anne Moss. Then there's Jacinto, who plays Qimir, a former smuggler whose life has seemingly settled down since he started working in the trading world (per ComicBook.com).
A mention of Qimir's newly comfortable status in his character biography implies that the former criminal wasn't always well-off. Jacinto seems to confirm as much in a new interview with Total Film.

Nicolas Cage is all about his family. The actor puts his kids above everything else, even turning down massive roles in movies like The Lord of the Rings and The Matrix because they would have meant being away from home for too long. For Cage, that wasn’t worth it. He chose to stay close to his kids, preferring bedtime stories over Hollywood blockbusters.

Why Nicolas Cage Rejected The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings?
During a conversation with People surrounding The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Nicolas Cage felt compelled to make things clear. While he indeed portrays a version of himself in the film, he emphasizes that this character is far removed from his true persona.
