Here’s a first look at the new trailer and poster for Cheatin,’ the award-winning, surreal animated adult tale of love, jealousy, revenge, and murder.
Inspired by the work of James M. Cain (“Double Indemnity”, “The Postman Always Rings Twice”), Cheatin’ marks Academy Award nominated Bill Plympton’s seventh animated feature film.
The film screened at the St. Louis International Film Festival in November 2014. In his Sliff review, Jim Batts called the film, “a wonderful, imaginative featuree animated film,” adding Plympton is, “at the zenith of his artistic powers here, with a long-form film that captures all of the charm of his quirky shorts.”
In a fateful bumper car collision, Jake and Ella meet and become the most loving couple in the long history of Romance.
But when a scheming “other” woman drives a wedge of jealousy into their perfect courtship, insecurity spells out an untimely fate.

The sequel to last year's epic extreme-horror anthology The ABCs of Death is now underway, and the producers have now revealed the full lineup of filmmakers participating in this installment, again with each one assigned to a letter of the alphabet. 25 directors have now been selected, with the 26th to be again chosen from fan submissions. Magnet Releasing, along with returning producers Ant Timpson and Tim League, have expanded their search beyond the horror genre this time, and their newest directorial recruits include Julian Barratt from the cult UK series The Mighty Boosh, Todd Rohal (The Catechism Catalysm, Nature Calls), Manborg creator Steven Kostanski, Argentina's Alejandro Brugués (Juan Of The Dead), Japan's Hajime Ohata (Henge), UK commercial director Jim Hosking, and Chris Nash of the mega-grossout Skinfections shorts. These new additions join the previously confirmed lineup of Álex de la Iglesia (The Last Circus, Day Of The Beast), Rodney Ascher...

Bill Plympton is one of the most creative and prolific artists to emerge out of the independent animation shorts film arena of the late 1980′s. His short Your Face was nominated for an Academy Award and follow-up shorts like How To Kiss and How To Quit Smoking became the highlights of several traveling animation compilations and festivals. He soon branched out into feature films with The Tune and set up a New York animation studio to produce commercials and music videos along with more features and shorts. Recently Plympton has helmed several live action features. He’s here in St. Louis to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 20th Annual Stella Artois St. Louis International Film Festival. Mr. Plympton was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to speak with me by phone.

Like always, Comic Con International is revealing the schedule of events day by day. It certainly makes planning a lot easier. But that's neither here nor there. There's a lot of panels to cover, so let's just get to it. Check out the pertinent film and television panels set for the first two days of the show after the jump.
The first "day" of the show is Preview Night only, so there's only a couple things happening that night:
6:00-9:00 Special Sneak Peek Pilot Screenings: Alcatraz, Person of Interest, The Secret Circle, and Supernatural: The Anime Series—
Comic-Con and Warner Bros. Television proudly continue their annual Preview Night tradition with exclusive world premiere screenings of the pilot episodes of three of the most highly anticipated TV series pilots of the 2011-12 television season — Alcatraz, Person of Interest, and The Secret Circle — as well as Supernatural: The Anime Series,...

We're less than two weeks away from the 2011 San Diego Comic Con, and convention organizers have finally released the schedule for the first day of programing. You can find the full schedule on comic-con.org [1], or after the jump I've listed the film and television highlights, which includes the Masters of the Web panel which I've been invited to be a panelist on (In full disclosure, I've been asked to be on this panel for a few years now, but I've only just recently gotten over my fear of speaking in front of large audiences). It should be a fun panel, and I hear they will be giving away some really cool prizes as well. Bill Plympton is the hardest working animator in the world today. No disrespect to any other hard-working animators out there, but it’s absolutely true about Plympton. He’s constantly working on several working short films and features at the same time. Plus, he flies all over the world to film festivals and events to promote his work, which you can read all about on the new blog Scribble Junkies that Plympton produces with his friend Patrick Smith.
And now Bill Plympton has taken on the monumental task of self-distributing his latest feature film Idiots & Angels, which is about a selfish man who magically grows wings one day that instantly make him a target for other people’s selfish desires to abuse his gift for their own gain.
After a successful festival run, Idiots & Angels will finally make its theatrical premiere at the IFC Center in NYC on Oct. 6. Then,...

Bill Plympton’s animation is easy to recognize: The scratchy colored pencils, the absurdist visual humor — sometimes grotesque, sometimes not. But, when one watches several of Plympton’s short films in a row — as in watching the Dog Days compilation DVD — several other, more nuanced, details about his style become apparent.
Dog Days contains Plympton’s short films made between 2004 and 2008, one of which, Guard Dog (2004), was nominated for an Academy Award and another, The Fan and the Flower (2005), won the Annie Award for Best Animated Short Subject. Several other of the films contained on the DVD also racked up lots of awards at numerous film festivals. Seeing all of these films one right after another, it’s easy to see why Plympton was so well rewarded during this prolific period: The man was firing on all cylinders and challenging himself to create his best, most innovative work.

Where else could Adam Sandler go up against the Powerpuff Girls? The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the names of the films that qualify for this year's Best Animation Feature Film Oscar . and the number is almost double that of last year. Nine films were selected as eligible last year, with Shrek taking home the inaugural award, and for 2002 the Academy has named seventeen eclectic candidates, including Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, and Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie. Disney's two high-profile animated offerings this year . the hit Lilo & Stitch and the flop Treasure Planet . also qualified, as well as Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, which the Mouse distributed in what was considered a badly mismanaged marketing campaign. Two films' eligibility . Eden and The Wild Thornberrys Movie . is predicated on their opening prior to December 31 in Los Angeles. Under the rules governing the award, a maximum of five films may be nominated; nominees will be announced February 11, along with all the other Oscar noms.
Films eligible for the 2002 Best Animated Feature Film award: Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights; Alibaba & the Forty Thieves; Eden; El Bosque Animado (The Living Forest); Hey Arnold! The Movie; Ice Age; Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie; Lilo & Stitch; Mutant Aliens; The Powerpuff Girls Movie; The Princess and the Pea; Return to Never Land; Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron; Spirited Away; Stuart Little 2; Treasure Planet; The Wild Thornberrys Movie.
