Written by Eugene O’Neill between 1939-1941, Long Day’s Journey into Night is considered one of the greatest American plays. Have you ever looked at Donald Trump and pictured him getting down to “Despacito”? Popping his geriatric kneecaps to “God’s Plan”? Well, the Republican National Committee has. The RNC featured both songs in the first installment of a playlist series aimed at generating hype around its 2024 nominating convention, which will take place in Milwaukee this July and crown Trump as the party’s official presidential nominee.
Notably, the playlist features few pro-Trump artists — and none of the cringe-inducing Maga rappers who’ve gone viral debasing themselves in the former president’s name.

Is Alex Garland’s new film “apolitical”, or does it just take politics seriously? We take a look at the debate surrounding Civil War.
“Some are already calling it the greatest victory in the history of military campaigns”.
According to the actor that plays him, the unnamed President who opens Alex Garland’s Civil War with a TV address isn’t based on anyone in particular.
“Honestly, [the Trump comparison] didn’t even come up”, Nick Offerman somewhat implausibly told the Hollywood Reporter on a red carpet this month.
“It would be so easy to make this movie and lay in some easter eggs… but you would lose half your audience one way or another”.
Throughout Civil War’s press tour, Garland and the cast have been keen to stress the film’s bipartisan credentials. This, as you might imagine, hasn’t been easy. With a President seeking an unconstitutional third term, disbanding...

As human beings spend an ever-increasing amount of their free time looking at screens and disinformation continues to shape global politics, “Triangle of Sadness” director Ruben Östlund has some radical ideas about how to ensure that people are consuming high quality media.
In a new interview with The Guardian, Östlund floated the idea that images have become so powerful and omnipresent that cameras might need to be regulated with the same care with which many European countries treat guns.
“I have an idea,” Östlund said. “What if you were only allowed to use a camera if you have a license? You need one for a gun — at least in sophisticated countries. The camera is also a powerful tool.”
Östlund went on to caution new filmmakers against dismissing the potential impact of their work, explaining that he thinks fictional movies can create ripple effects that go on to shape society in unintended ways.

Although Avatar: The Last Airbender has become a world-renowned franchise for all demographics of people, its target audience has always been children. It advertises itself as a children’s television series, and even though it has some very intricate and complex stories, its themes never cross the line into the PG category. Perhaps, because of this, the series had been hesitant to show certain aspects of human life.

While episodes of Live with Kelly and Mark are all prerecorded this week for Spring Break, fans are still learning new things about Kelly Ripa.
She is always open about her healthcare routines, from the workouts that she shares on the show to her strict diet.
Kelly stays so trim and fit that even fans are worried about her thin frame when she shares photographs on Instagram, as reported by Monsters and Critics.
And while Kelly follows the advice of her nutritionist, Dr. Daryl Gioffre, fans still worry about her getting enough nutrition during the day.
The cosmetic procedure Kelly revealed recently should not be as much of a worry to her fans, which is good since she seems to have it done regularly.
In a segment with Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, Kelly shared that her resting face needs to be changed since she is unhappy.

The recently released Netflix series, 3 Body Problem, has taken the internet by storm. Whispers of its greatness have been heard in all corners of Hollywood and it has done an excellent job adapting from its source material, a 2008 book of the same name written by Cixin Liu. However, when words on paper are turned into something like action, plot lines are bound to get changed and things get lost in translation.

Although the series was heavily praised for its loyalty to the book, there were some major changes made to it in regards to the story, especially on the global scale. While the creators made such a change to introduce a bigger playing field for story-telling, one country has become quite upset with how it was portrayed.

A mother pimping out her son? Not quite a story you hear every day, but historically accurate nonetheless.
Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine lead limited series “Mary and George” as the titular Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham, and her son George, who together set out to seduce King James I (Tony Curran) and well, penetrate the throne.
While the trailer quickly was turned into viral GIFs courtesy of Galitzine and Curran’s steamy scenes, it’s Oscar winner Moore’s performance that has turned critics’ heads, according to reviews for the series. The Guardian called the series “magnificent” in part due to its “narrative rigor of ‘The Favourite,’ the disciplined panache of ‘The Great,’ just a dash of ‘The Tudors’’ excess and enough sex to keep ‘Bridgerton’ fans happy too.” Those risqué scenes range from queer group sex, royal orgies, and Moore’s “monster” of a mother who still serves...

J.K. Rowling, for the better part of this decade, has been tarnishing her reputation with her controversial remarks online. And things were particularly heated up recently after Scotland passed a Hate Crime and Public Order Act. This ruling introduced more strict measures against hate speech, including misgendering individuals. It could potentially lead to jail time of seven years for individuals found guilty of making such comments.

Spoilers for "Moon" follow.
Most post-apocalyptic science fiction tales focus on ravaged planets, the despair and hope in re-building human colonies, or the advent of new horrors in an already bleak universe. Duncan Jones' directorial debut, "Moon," zooms in on one man — rather, the various versions of a man long dead — while capturing the acute sense of isolation he feels during a three-year-long solitary stint on the far side of the moon. This man, Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), is on the verge of breaking free from this lonely, monotonous routine, which is when a rover accident completely destabilizes his concept of self, including the emotion-fueled memories he thought were exclusively his.
When a newly activated Sam clone ventures outside and brings the unconscious Sam inside the facility, the two are immediately mired in conflict about who the "real" Sam is. After all, both men have the same memories about their wife,...

Variety reports that the “Desperate Housewives” actress is joining the Season 2 cast of Paramount+’s serialized revival of the long-running CBS crime procedural.
Huffman will guest star as Dr. Jill Gideon. Gideon is described as “a brilliant biological psychiatrist.” She’s the ex-wife of Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), the former leader of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. She has a complicated history with her late ex-husband and his Bau successor David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), which makes her reluctant to get involved with the team’s investigation into the murderous and mysterious Gold Star conspiracy. Alex Garland is about to deliver what the /Film staff has declared one of the best movies of 2024 with "Civil War" — a film that will surely give rise to a nice, pleasant, and completely unproblematic discourse. Adding to the discussions may be the fact that the massive war drama about journalists on the front lines trying to do their job in the middle of a second U.S. Civil War could also be the last movie Alex Garland ever directs.
So said the writer-director in 2022 while shooting "Civil War," claiming that he is "definitely" walking away from directing, at least for a while. In a new interview with The Guardian, Garland reiterated his goal of having his filmmaking career end with his latest A24 project. "Nothing's changed," he said about his retirement plan. "I'm in a very similar state. I'm not planning to direct again in the foreseeable future."

The Lost Boys became one of the ’80s most iconic horror films with its dark, steamy take on vampires. But its co-writer James Jeremias initially had a much different type of film in mind, inspired by Peter Pan.
In an interview with The Guardian for the publication’s “How We Made” series, Jeremias, a former grip turned screenwriter who wrote the Joel Schumacher film alongside Janice Fischer, recalled that after reading Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire, he was particularly struck by Claudia being frozen in time in the body of a 5-year-old for eternity.
“It got me thinking about J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan — where our title came from. What if the reason he came out at night, could fly and didn’t grow up was because he was a vampire? We took a fictional character and put him in a new light. What if it wasn’t...

Remarkably, celebrated filmmaker Alex Garland, 53, recently declared his intention to step away from filmmaking, citing a desire to pursue another artistic endeavor. As fans of his work mourn this news, it’s impossible not to think about the influential impact the London-born director had on the movie business with his sci-fi masterpiece, Ex Machina.
Even Garland expressed his admiration for this 2014 flick, which received critical acclaim for its thought-provoking look at artificial intelligence and won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Back in 2015, he revealed to The Guardian that, compared to everything he has worked on previously, he “feels more attached” to this movie.

Butthole Surfers concerts are the stuff of legend: debauched, excessive, and with an element of physical danger. And it’s for that very reason that the avant-rock legends are refusing to reunite.
In a new interview with The Guardian, original members Gibby Haynes and Paul Leary discussed the current state of the band, which is currently in the midst of a major vinyl reissue campaign.
With Butthole Surfers LPs back in print for the first time in years, now is a perfect time for the band to return to the stage. However, Haynes and Leary are hesitant to re-open that door considering the inherent risks involved.
“We’re not as good as we could be today, and that’s because I lost my shit,” admitted Haynes, whose on-stage episodes are well documented. “I did too many drugs. I totally screwed up the deal. It’s my bad. It’s on me.

No Paul McCartney song was created in a vacuum. A 1960s classic rock star said Paul took ideas from him. The star’s producer told him not to let Paul hear one of his tracks. The tune in question became a massive hit in the United States and the United Kingdom, and it is recognizable to this day.

During a 2016 interview with The Guardian, Donovan discussed the place he was in life when he wrote his most famous hit, the psychedelic classic “Sunshine Superman.” “At the time, I was great pals with The Beatles,” he said. “We were all experimenting, nicking sounds from each other.
“I was getting into baroque music and told my producer, Mickie Most, I wanted harpsichord on the track,” Donovan recalled. “‘You need an arranger,’ he said, introducing me to John Cameron who understood immediately.

Alex Garland on Life After ‘Civil War’: ‘I’m Not Planning to Direct Again in the Foreseeable Future’
Alex Garland’s upcoming A24 blockbuster “Civil War” is the biggest undertaking of his career — and seems destined to become the most controversial entry in his filmography. The film, which imagines a world where political polarization causes the United States to fracture and fight a second civil war with modern military weapons, provoked strong responses after premiering at SXSW 2024. Some praised it as a generation-defining war epic on par with “Apocalypse Now,” while others felt that its politically neutral approach discredited Garland’s ideas.
But regardless of how the film is ultimately received, Garland thinks it might be his last film as a director. In a new interview with The Guardian, the filmmaker reiterated previous claims that he might retire from filmmaking and said he had no plans to direct another movie after “Civil War.”
“Nothing’s changed,” he said when asked about previous claims that he was open to retiring from filmmaking.

However, he was not able to stay away from narrative storytelling for too long. In 2022, it was announced that he was directing a movie named Drive-Away Dolls, which he co-wrote with his wife Tricia Cooke. The movie is loosely based on the couple’s one-of-a-kind family setup.

If one were to search for "Disney Recycled Animation" on YouTube, one would find several videos showing side-by-side comparisons of 2D animated Disney films recycling the same bits of animation. It's not much of a "gotcha" if you know anything about the painstaking reality of what it takes to complete a traditionally animated feature film, nor is recycling shots something limited to films or television. If anything, animators repeating themselves is as inevitable as writers using their favorite turn of phrase over and over. (That's my cue to wipe away my own flop sweat.)

Actor Michelle Monaghan was a part of HBO’s long-running anthology series True Detective in its first season. But as much praise as True Detective received, it also experienced its share of criticism. The show’s depiction of its female cast was a point of scrutiny for the series early on, which Monaghan couldn’t have disagreed with more.
