Sza shared a cover of Eminem’s 2002 hit “Lose Yourself” on Instagram, noting, “U ever just cover Eminem on some tender shit for feels?” She added that the low-key, intimate rendition wasn’t for a project but instead “just for mental health.”
The cover sees Sza crooning the lyrics over a piano backdrop, transforming Eminem’s hard-hitting rap lines into soulful vocals. Her post quickly earned the attention of the rapper himself, who commented with a wide-eyed emoji.

Netflix has tied up a deal in the $34M range for the John Lee Hancock-directed package Monsanto, we can reveal. The pic will star Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie and Oscar winner Laura Dern.
CAA Media Finance cut the presale after launching with Rocket Science last week. Netflix has been quieter at recent markets but is back at the table with the splashy deal.
This and Apple’s WW deal for Everest sherpa pic Tenzing are the two biggest deals to emerge from the Cannes market so far. The latter is understood to be in the $40M range.
Monsanto tells the true story of young, untried attorney Brent Wisner (Powell), who takes on a seemingly insurmountable case against the giant U.S. chemical company Monsanto on behalf of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson (Mackie) who used Monsanto’s best-known product Roundup, a wildly financially successful weed and grass pesticide killer, as part...

Music is one of the main keys to the success of a movie, as it helps to set the tone and enhances the viewers’ experience. It can even happen that films become overshadowed by the songs written and recorded specifically for them, and people tend to forget that they were originally soundtracks that lost any association with their origins.
Here are 5 dramas surpassed in popularity by their music themes, according to Reddit.
Dangerous Minds (1995)
Michelle Pfeiffer’s underrated gem presumably comes first in this respect, as everybody knows Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio, while the movie is unfairly forgotten. In fact, the story of a teacher taking up a job in East Palo Alto, a racially segregated and economically deprived city, is worth a try, apart from its cultish main song.
Chariots of Fire (1981)
“More people know the chariots of fire song than have actually seen the movie,” fairly admits @goldbloodedinthe404.

The Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan heist series “12 12 12” has landed at Apple TV+ and is nearing a series order, Variety has learned exclusively.
The series was first reported to be on the market back in January. Mackie and Dornan will both star in the series in addition to executive producing.
The official logline for the series states that it follows “a disgraced FBI agent (Mackie) and an American career criminal (Dornan) who play a zero-sum game of cat and mouse across Europe. At the center of it all is the daring, epic raid on a bank vault deep beneath the streets of Zurich.” The series will take place across three timelines — the 12 months prior to the heist, the 12 hours of the heist, and the 12 days after.
The series is created by Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble, who will also executive produce. Kari Skogland will direct the pilot and executive produce.

Chicago – One of Chicago’s icon theater actors … Michael Shannon … is performing again in town, in the company that he co-founded. Red Orchid Theatre presents Michael Shannon and Travis A. Knight in the World Premiere of “Turret” by Levi Holloway, now at the Chopin Theatre through June 9, 2024. For tickets and info, click Turret.
Two men (Shannon and Knight) survive in a facility deep underground somewhere in the wild woods of the Pacific Northwest, hiding away from something terrible from the outside. Ensnared in a relentless loop of endless tomorrows, they discover the wolf isn’t at the door, it’s already inside, waiting in the creeping darkness all around them. “Turret” is an excavation of masculinity, love, loss and isolation, and a claustrophobic carnival of carnage, carrier pigeons, cribbage, whiskey, music, mischief and mayhem.

Rocket Science and CAA Media Finance are launching foreign sales out of Cannes for the John Lee Hancock directed Monsanto starring Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie and Oscar winner Laura Dern.
Monsanto tells the true story of young, untried attorney Brent Wisner (Powell) who takes on a seemingly insurmountable case against the giant U.S. chemical company Monsanto on behalf of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson (Mackie) who used Monsanto’s best-known product Roundup, a wildly financially successful weed and grass pesticide killer, as part of his job as a high school groundskeeper. During the trial, Dr Melinda Rogers (Dern), the chief toxicologist of the Monsanto Company, testifies with certainty that Roundup is safe.
Pic’s screenplay was developed in association with Karl Spoerri’s Zurich Avenue and penned by Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc, Ned Benson and Hancock. Producers are Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff, Philip Schulz-Deyle and Jon Levin alongside HyperObject Industries’ Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.

The Oscars are almost upon us, and according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users, Billie Eilish will claim her second trophy for Best Original Song. She and her brother Finneas previously won for penning the title song from “No Time to Die,” and now they’re expected to prevail again for their ballad “What Was I Made For?” from “Barbie.” If they do, it would be the first time this century that a composition wins both Song of the Year at the Grammys and Best Original Song at the Oscars.
It’s less common than it used to be for soundtrack songs to cross over to the Grammys. The last time a song won both of these awards was actually Celine Dion‘s “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic.” Written by James Horner and Will Jennings, the classic love theme from the blockbuster film won Best Original...

Eminem is producing Stans, from director Steven Leckart, about just how intense fans can get: more here.
It took me a little while to work out that the idea of ‘standom’ – a particularly fanatical kind of fandom – emanated from the Eminem song ‘Stan’ from the year 2000. I wouldn’t mind, I bought the sodding single as well.
Anyway. Eminem is returning to the world of Stans with a documentary feature film that his company is backing. Cunningly, said documentary will be going by the name of Stans, and Eminem is listed amongst the co-producers of the project.
He’s not the director though, so let’s have a paragraph or two on him. Steven Leckart is the person in question, and he’s previously directed Challenger: The Final Flight. He also co-wrote the TV series Legacy: The True Story Of The LA Lakers, which hasn’t made it to these shores.

In the film, Kinnaman plays a Boston police detective who suffers an on-the-job accident that leaves him hearing impaired. Sixteen months later, he and his friend and partner (Strong) must battle Lynch (Phifer) and a team of corrupt cops attempting to eliminate a deaf murder witness (Frank) in the apartment building where she lives.

After inadvertently coining the term “stan” on his 2000 song of the same name, Eminem is now set to co-produce Stans, a documentary about overzealous superfans.

Eminem will co-produce the documentary under his Shady Films banner, with Steven Leckart serving as its director. A release date is unconfirmed, but the film is slated to come later this year. Eminem’s longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg, and Shady Films...

Scott Stuber is leaving Netflix. The chairman of Netflix film since 2017, he will be leaving in March to start his own media company.
This has been in the works for some time, as rumors were rampant he had a different philosophy than Netflix toppers, whose prime focus has always been to make premium movies to be consumed by streaming. Other streamers have evolved into a theatrical first window for many of their big budget films, as Apple did in securing traditional distributors to globally release films like Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon. While Netflix has acquired some posh theaters in qualifying cities like New York and Los Angeles, its business plan is mainly global streaming without the giant P&a spend needed for films to do big movie house grosses.
Stuber will stay to help the transition, and then Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria will oversee things until a permanent replacement is secured.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

“Citizens of America, the so-called Western forces of Texas and California have suffered a very great defeat at the hands of the United States military,” Offerman, who portrays the U.S. President, says in the trailer.

Taryn Manning’s audition for the Britney Spears starrer Crossroads was so good it made director Tamra Davis nervous.
“She was picking something on her arm, and it looked like it might start bleeding,” recalls Davis of a casting session for the 2002 road trip drama, written by soon-to-be TV mogul Shonda Rhimes. “I thought ‘Oh my, she’s too much, this girl.’ But at the same time, she was the girl.”
Manning was vying for the role of Mimi, a trailer park teen with dreams of moving to Los Angeles to make it as a singer. Manning so nailed the mannerisms and soul of a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who longed for stardom that Davis also felt confused. “I remember quietly telling [casting directors Kim Davis-Wagner and Justine Arteta] that while she was amazing, I needed a real actress. During our two-hour Zoom call, Cleveland rapper/producer Kipp Stone tells me that his zest for writing started with stories about a character he deemed the “Cleverland Hero.”
“It’s a shoebox under my bed [with] a bunch of stories,” he says while lounging in a chair in his home. “[They] would later turn into album ideas and stuff like that. I had a character called The Cleverland Hero and he was a musician on a mission to become the coldest. On his journey, he met a whole bunch of people. He...

Lyrics that include the words “dick,” “fuck” and “pussy” are not the typical wholesome, family content the Academy’s Music Branch tends to recognize. But occasionally, they have allowed a couple to slip through. A24’s “Dicks: The Musical,” the opening night Midnight Madness at TIFF, has an onslaught of hilarious and catchy tunes that I wish the Oscars would be brave enough to nominate.
With so many hilarious tracks to choose from, including “Gay Old Life” and “The Sewer Song,” Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion brings down the house with her delivery on the rap and dance number “Out-Alpha the Alpha.” It could and should be one of the many songs to consider for this year’s Academy Awards, and distributor A24 confirms they’ll submit the movie for Oscar consideration.

Those not aiming for straight rom-com, but a mix of humor and heart will look forward to the fourth and final season of “Sex Education” and the shenanigans of Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa), Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) and more.

In the age of endless movie biopics, it should be a crime how few of them are based on hip-hop's greatest artists. Yes, we have "Straight Outta Compton" about West Coast rap group N.W.A. and "Notorious" about The Notorious B.I.G., but as far as high-quality, true-to-life biopics go (50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" and Eminem's "8 Mile" take too many creative liberties to truly be considered biopics), that's pretty much where the list of hip-hop biopics begins and ends.
But with the 50th anniversary of hip-hop upon us in 2023, there's no better time to explore the great pioneers of hip-hop who deserve their moment on screen. After all, without the likes of The Sugarhill Gang, LL Cool J, and Snoop Dogg, there would be no Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, or Drake. And can you imagine what hip-hop would look like today if it hadn't...

Legend has it… nothing rhymes with the word “orange” and while sitting across from Anderson Cooper, rapper Eminem proceeded that to debunk this lyrical myth. When it comes to word play and rhymes, the man can do the impossible. Hitting it big as an anti-pop star, going after all the top charting artists but this Mc soon became so successful that he accidentally became a top charting pop star himself. But of course, this legendary musician tried to fight off the demons of fame and fortune when they manifested in the form of substance abuse and depression. He would over come them, then relapse and recover again… but where he is at in his monster career now? Is he still rapping it up in da streets? Still topping the charts? Still spitting super fly fresh lyrics from his angry little mouth, which now has a weird beard?
