An electronic rapping toy and a puppet are united by adversity and together they fight crime. Push the button on the paw of DJ Doggy Dog and he'll explain that he's "cute not scary," and that he's "got rhymes that are legendary." Push the questions about Don, the fool, still performing though his puppeteer is long since dead and that "cute not scary" and "legendary" start to feel quite a bit weirder. Discover that Don is given to flights of fancy and tilting at windmills and the advertising copy notion that this is based on what's described as "an original idea" by "writers of Toy Story" starts to look a bit suspect.
That's not, technically, untrue. Joel Cohen (not that one) is one of six with writing credits for 1995's Toy Story, though his most recent credits were 2007's Daddy Day Camp (the Daddy Day Care sequel) and another...

The latest trailer for Amazon’s “Candy Cane Lane” is little different than the previous announcement teaser, just with more visuals and slightly more exposition offered up.
It’s the same beat, with Murphy as a husband/father who takes the concept of Christmas decorations way too far and accidentally sells his soul to an evil elf played by Jillian Bell. That wish brings about not world peace but the 12 Days of Christmas coming to life via unleashing PG-rated chaos on the town.
Directed by Reginald Hudlin and written by Kelly Younger, “Candy Cane Lane” co-stars Murphy and Bell alongside Tracee Ellis Ross, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Ken Marino, Nick Offerman, Robin Thede, Chris Redd, Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Lombardo Boyar, D.C. Young Fly, Danielle Pinnock, Timothy Simons, Riki Lindhome and the always welcome Stephen Tobolowsky. Murphy is a producer alongside Brian Grazer, Karen Lunder and Charisse Hewitt-Webster...

Old Dads is a comedy film directed by Bill Burr, who also co-wrote the film with Ben Tishler. The Netflix film follows three middle-aged men, who find themselves not fitting in the customs of the modern and often times very fragile and easily offended world. Burr’s style of comedy makes the film work as he also stars in the lead role alongside Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine. So, if you loved the Netflix film here are some similar movies you could watch next.

Eddie Murphy has spent much of the last 27 years making kid-friendly flicks like “Imagine That” and “Daddy Daycare.” As such, it’s a little surprising that “Candy Cane Lane” represents his first Christmas/holiday flick. That’s the hook for this latest Amazon Prime original feature.
This brief teaser doesn’t so much explain the premise as lays out the protagonist, showing Murphy as a loving husband and father who nonetheless takes the concept of Christmas decorations a bit too far. He essentially sells his soul to a magical elf played by Jillian Bell for a holiday-related wish. Alas, much to his family’s chagrin, that wish is not world peace or a new album from Drake.
Murphy’s wish causes a spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life, unleashing PG-rated chaos on the town. One can surmise that all parties learn that Christmas is not about winning...

Actress Elle Fanning has revealed that she lost a role as a 16-year-old because she “wasn’t sexy enough”. According to Deadline, Fanning, 25, the younger sister of actress Dakota, told The Times newspaper that when she was 16 years old, she auditioned for a role in a comedy movie about a father and daughter going on a road trip.
The star of the comedy drama series ‘The Great’ said that she was told she had been rejected for the role “because she wasn’t sexy enough” – “unf***able” was the verdict she was given.
She revealed that, a year later, she lost another film role on the grounds that she didn’t have enough followers on Instagram.
The ‘Maleficient’ star has recently enjoyed huge success with her role of Catherine in ‘The Great’. Both she and co-star Nicholas Hoult have been Emmy-nominated for their performances in the irreverent period drama, detailing...

That show airs on HBO and will stream on HBO Max. Then on May 4, the comedy “The Other Two” returns for its third season on HBO Max.
The sixth season of the animated series “Rick and Morty” will be available to stream on HBO Max starting on May 11, and in terms of library titles the “Men in Black” trilogy, the comedies “Step Brothers” and “Some Like It Hot” and Jonah Hill’s directorial debut “Mid90s” all come to HBO and HBO Max this month.

Wait a minute, you might be asking, isn’t HBO Max supposed to be “Max” now? How then, am I seeing a list of HBO Max new releases for May 2023? Well spotted, dear reader. Warner Bros. Discovery did indeed recently reveal that it would be rebranding its combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service as just Max. As the company notes in its press release for May though, that change doesn’t take effect until May 23. What follows is a list of everything coming to HBO Max through May 22.
The biggest releases this month are two TV series that arrive at the beginning of May. White House Plumbers is a comedic take on the infamous Watergate scandal starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. That will be followed by season 3 of The Other Two, which I personally consider the funniest show on television. Catch up now before it’s too late!

HBO Max will officially be replaced by Warner Bros. Discovery on May 23 with a new and improved service called Max. However, that doesn’t mean the service is scrimping on content until then. One of the biggest new releases of the month is the new limited series “White House Plumbers,” which will premiere on May 1. Starring Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the pair portray two real-life Watergate burglars and Nixon saboteurs who ended up destroying the very president they desperately wanted to serve.
Check out the “White House Plumbers” trailer:
The platform will head to the pitch on May 16 with a three-part soccer docuseries “Angel City.” The series goes behind the scenes with the groundbreaking Los Angeles-based professional women’s soccer team, Angel City Football Club. Paramount Pictures has renewed a first-look deal with Todd Garner. The head of Broken Road Productions first signed a production pact with the studio in 2018.
Their only film since that time for Paramount has been “Playing With Fire,” a family-friendly Paramount Players release about a handful of macho firefighters having to look after two stranded kids amid a wildfire. The Jon Cena-led release earned $69.4 million worldwide on a $29 million budget. The company is in active development on a Rebel Wilson-starring tennis comedy titled “Double Fault.”
Among other recent projects not specifically with Paramount were New Line’s “Mortal Kombat” reboot and the direct-to-Hulu comedy “Vacation Friends,” both of which have spawned in-development sequels. Ganrer’s production track record goes back at least as far as Vin Diesel’s first “xXx” installment in the summer of 2022. That entry spawned an Ice Cube-led follow-up in 2005 and the 2017 global smash “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage...

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.

You People. (L to R) Jonah Hill (Writer-Producer) as Ezra and Eddie Murphy as Akbar in You People. Cr. Tyler Adams/Netflix © 2023.
For those of us who grew up with comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, our first exposure to this gifted entertainer was on Saturday Night Live’s “Mister Robinson’s Neighborhood“.
For decades now, Murphy has always been there, whether on TV or in the movies, and continues to have loyal, diehard fans who grew up in the 80’s to his hilarious standups “Delirious” and “Raw”, as well as his pop single “Party All The Time”.
Personally, while my siblings and I were in high school, after moving cross country from Connecticut to Idaho, Murphy saved us as we listened repeatedly to the cassette of Delirious in 1984. He had us laughing and made us forget our feelings of being the “new kids” in a new town at a new school.

During his acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes on Tuesday night, Eddie Murphy offered some key advice for up-and-comers in the industry: Don’t mess with Will Smith.
“I want to let you know that there is a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity and peace of mind,” Murphy said at the end of his speech. “It’s a blueprint and I’ve followed it my whole career. It’s very simple, just do these three things: pay your taxes, mind your business and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”

Eddie Murphy shares three pieces of advice for up-and-comers in the industry:

2023 has arrived, and to kick off the new year Netflix has a number of new additions hitting the streaming service in January. New Year’s Day marks the launch of the new original limited series “Kaleidoscope,” with episodes presented to subscribers in random order leading up to the big finale. The show chronicles the events before, during and after a major heist, with Giancarlo Esposito leading the cast, and is designed to be watched (and enjoyed) in any order.
Another high-profile Netflix original in January is “You People,” a new comedy film co-written by Jonah Hill and Kenya Barris, with Hill starring opposite Eddie Murphy in a premise that evokes “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” as he vies for the approval of his girlfriend’s father so he can marry her. Barris directed the comedy film, which arrives on Jan. 27.

2022 represented Netflix’s 25th (!!) year of operations as a company. Unfortunately, the streamer celebrated its 25th birthday with some earnings losses, massive cancelations, and a whole host of bad press. What will year 26 hold for the little Blockbuster killer that could? We now have a good idea thanks to Netflix’s list of new releases for January 2023.
Netflix is kicking off 2023 with some muscular original series…and in one instance we mean literally muscular. Vikings: Valhalla season 2 will premiere on Jan. 13, bringing some much needed Norse mayhem back to television. Other titles of note include Ginny & Georgia season 2 (Jan. 5), and That ’90s Show (Jan. 19). The most intriguing option, however, might be what Netflix is choosing to open its year with. Kaleidoscope premieres on Jan. 1 and will present a heist story that will be told in a random order for each Netflix viewer.
Meanwhile, the true crime machine continues apace for Netflix in 2023. Jan.

It goes the same every year; the holidays are a time for joy and renewal, and the new year is a time to throw it all away, recover emotionally, and ignore real life until February (at least). We’re talking peak winter, existential angst — the kind of things you can’t face down without a warm blanket and a weekend TV marathon.

Most fans of the original comedy classic "Friday" and its subsequent sequels might assume that star Ice Cube actually stepped behind the camera to direct one, if not all, of the entries in his beloved neighborhood stoner trilogy. But in fact, he didn't direct a single installment in the franchise. Ice Cube did try his hand at directing in the late '90s with "Players Club," a story about a single mother who turns to the underworld of exotic dance to make ends meet.
Aside from an ESPN episode of "30 for 30" about the Oakland Raiders' move to Los Angles in 1982, "Players Club" is the only directing credit for Cube, who prefers to share the limelight with other directors. This is especially true with the "Friday" series where the rap mogul liked hiring first-time directors. A new year has finally arrived and HBO Max is set to open it with a bang. With its list of new releases for January 2022, HBO Max is rolling out some intriguing original series and an absolutely packed slate of library titles.
The real highlight this month comes on Jan. 13 with the release of Peacemaker. Developed by James Gunn, this series spins off John Cena’s titular character from last years’ The Suicide Squad. The show will delve into the pathology of a superhero who will achieve peace regardless of how many people need to be killed to attain it.
Also of note this month are second seasons for two major HBO series. Euphoria season 2 and The Righteous Gemstones season 2 both premiere on Jan. 9, making for quite the odd double feature. Meanwhile, the fifth and final season of superb comedy Search Party arrives on Jan. 7.
January 2022 is light as far as original movies go.

Fresh off of their collaboration on “Coming 2 America,” Amazon Studios has closed a three-picture and first-look film deal with Eddie Murphy. The pact calls for the comedian to star in three films for Amazon Studios and develop original film projects for Prime Video and the studio, with the potential to star in them. It also comes as Murphy has been more active on the film front after undergoing something of a hiatus. The actor earned rave reviews for Netflix’s “Dolemite Is My Name” and is making a fourth “Beverly Hills Cop” film for the streamer.
“Eddie is a legend both in front of and behind the camera,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “With undeniable comedic and dramatic genius, he consistently delivers entertaining, original stories and characters to audiences around the world. Though the summer movie season is winding down (if it ever really started this year), Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for September 2021 is chock full of worthwhile movie options.
For starters, Amazon’s library movie titles are quite good this month. September 1 sees the arrivals of heavyweights such as Apollo 13, Arachnophobia, Romeo + Juliet, The Descent, and The Social Network. And if that weren’t enough, the streamer is trying out some intriguing original movies as well. Cinderella, a modern update on the classic fairy tale, premieres on September 3. That will be followed by “exotic thriller” The Voyeurs (Sept. 10), musical adaptation Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (Sept. 17), and French thriller The Mad Woman’s Ball (Sept. 17).

Do not adjust your WiFi settings. No, you are not experiencing a severe case of Deja Streaming-vu. HBO Max’s list of new releases for May 2021 are indeed highlighted by two very recent WarnerMedia hits.
For starters, Tenet finally makes its long-awaited HBO Max this month. Mark your calendars as May 1 is the day that you can finally watch Christopher Nolan’s latest cerebral thriller. The Wonder Woman sequel already premiered on HBO Max this past December, now it’s getting a second run on the streamer.

Samuel L. Jackson is coming on board an untitled action movie, portraying a hitman coming out of retirement.
The project is a return to familiar turf for Jackson, who played the title character in “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” and memorably portrayed gangster Jules Winnfield in “Pulp Fiction,” receiving a best supporting actor nomination for the role.
Endeavor Content will represent the sale of worldwide rights at the European Film Market in Berlin.
The project is written by Matthew Stone and directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra. Jackson’s character has retired from being the trusted hitman for a mob boss. But when his nephew makes a stupid mistake, the hitman is told by his old boss that he must either help the kid recover the lost money, or kill him — which leads to him forcing the nephew to clean up his mess while pontificating on some of life’s lessons.

Some of his other most beloved hits include 48 Hrs., Trading Places, Coming to America,...

Look who’s back! Famed comedian Eddie Murphy is planning to launch his career revitalization by hosting Saturday Night Live later this season. The comeback will then continue with a Netflix movie entitled Dolemite Is My Name and the highly-anticipated sequel Coming to America 2. Following all that, though, the actor will come full circle to return to where it all started out for him: the stand-up stage.
The 58-year-old is in talks with the aforementioned streaming service to stand behind the mic for the first time in decades. Netflix sounds like they’re offering him a zaftig amount of money to perform a stand-up special or two as well as $70 million for a couple hours of hilarity is nothing to sneeze at, even for a guy whose net worth is around $120 million.
