Spanish indie rock outfit Hinds have announced a new album, Viva Hinds, which is set to drop September 6th via Lucky Number. The band has also confirmed a North American tour and dropped the Beck-featuring single “Boom Boom Back.”
Viva Hinds serves as somewhat of a rebirth for the act, as songwriters Carlotta Cosials and Ana Perrote faced numerous Hinds-related struggles throughout the last few years. They split with their management, label, drummer, and bassist, succumbing to something of a creative rut as a result. Four years after their last release The Prettiest Curse, though, Cosials and Perrote are set to return with a brand new project that seeks to rejuvenate Hinds and, notably, houses the band’s first Spanish language songs.

Nobody does April Fools’ Day better than Adult Swim. For the past 20 years, the network has made it an annual mission to keep the prankish spirit of the jester-based day alive by throwing its viewers a curveball. Be it absurd gags, silly gimmicks, and sometimes grade-a shocking game-changers, April Fools’ Day is a colossal event for Adult Swim that every adult animation fan can’t miss.
Here are a few of the channel’s best April Fools’ Day moments from the past two decades.
2004 – Mustaches
Let’s go back to the prank that started it all—mustaches! It was just a night of regular adult animated programming, but with mustaches drawn onto all the characters in every scene in every show. It is such a simplistic gag, yet it birthed the tradition.

In addition to Bambi: The Reckoning, which is part of the Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey universe, another upcoming Bambi horror movie has been announced this week.
A gory horror-comedy that pays tribute to the slasher movies of the ’80s and ’90s, Bambi horror movie Bampire was just launched on Indiegogo, and we’ve got your first look.
Directed by Taylor Morden (The Last Blockbuster) and written by Zoë Wassman, the indie film is said to feature “heart-wrenching live action performances, hand-drawn animation by Josh Stifter (A24 and Kevin Smith’s Tusk), practical gore by award-winning fx artist Trysta Kelley, a claymation sequence from effects supervisor Webster Colcord, and even diegetic VHS footage from an in-world camera.”
Writer Zoë Wassman teases, “Picture Evil Dead 2 meets Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”

Zehan (Urdu for Mind) is a psychological thriller directed by Dhiren Dimri that stars Aarya Babbar and Surbhi Mahendru. Saying anything about this movie is proving to be quite difficult for me because I can’t type while rolling on the floor laughing about it. It’s one of those movies that is so bad that it is hilarious. It gives a strong competition to the 2003 masterpiece (of the so-bad-it’s-hilarious genre) The Room, but to be fair, Zehan, is a little bit better than the Tommy Wiseau film and hence will lose that competition. The film does have a couple of old-school bangers that I liked.
Spoilers Ahead
Plot Synopsis: What Happens In The Film?
Zehan begins by showing us a couple deeply, madly, and passionately in love, but they have had a fight. Hence, they go on a trip. The couple also carries their kid around on this trip,...

One year ago, Canadian sweetheart Ryan Reynolds showed everyone how easy it is to protect themselves from hackers with the 1Password security setup. Well, for accuracy’s sake, Reynolds’s assistant protected the actor’s varying accounts. The Deadpool and Green Lantern actor just sat around, waiting for some “bad actor” to steal his private information. What matters is that his accounts are secure, and he can email love letters to Hugh Jackman at his leisure.
Today, Tommy Wiseauiends) is getting in on the 1Password action and bringing a tiger along for the ride. In our Thursday predictions we said that despite most horror films being critic proof, the new James Wan/ Jason Blum collaboration Night Swim would (forgive the pun) sink or swim based on its reviews. Well later that day reviews began flooding in and they were not great. From critics calling it cliche to our own Tyler Nichols giving it a 4/10 and calling it “terrible on top of more bad” which is a line I will steal from him for future use!
Night Swim doesn’t seem to be one of those horror films that has the juice to prove those reviews wrong, with what is looking like a debut just over $11 million and a second place finish at the box office. What’s worse is that the film has garnered an absolutely horrible 40% audience score. To put that into perspective, the movie The Room, widely regarded as one of the worst movies ever made,...

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: You’ve Heard of Jump Scares, But Are You Ready for… Reverse Jump Scares?
When Foreman and I launched IndieWire After Dark, a big part of our motivation was the fact that we were burned out on the existing midnight movie canon. No disrespect to “The Room” or “Eraserhead” or “Rocky Horror,” but we had seen them so many times that we felt called to mine other eras of film history for new cinematic oddities.

As 2023 hits its final straights, Spain’s “Nowhere,” a mother-baby survival thriller, rates as the most-viewed non-English title – film or series – of 2023, with 77.9 million views. It also ranks as Netflix’s second most-watched non-English movie of all time, currently punching 141.6 million hours, bettered only by Norway’s “Troll.”
“Nowhere” also has legs: No other non-English Netflix movie has punched 1.6 million views on its seventh week of release.
That achievement is all the more remarkable given that “Nowhere” is also the first title by the film’s producer Miguel Ruz and exec producer Jordi Roca at their new Madrid-based production company Rock & Ruz which they launched after the success of their first film together, Mario Casas-starrer “The Paramedic” (“El Practicante”), also on Netflix.
Made for an above-average budget for Spain, based on an original story by Indiana Lista (“Scandinoir”), “Nowhere” is co-written by producers Ruz and Ernest Riera alongside...

After many film and music collaborations between Paul Thomas Anderson, Thom Yorke, and Jonny Greenwood, they’ve once again teamed for a new project. Following a perfectly PTA-style tease yesterday, the director’s music video for The Smile’s new track “Wall of Eyes” has now premiered.
The delightfully trippy five-minute music video accompanies an announcement that Yorke, Greenwood, and Tom Skinner’s band will release a new album, Wall of Eyes, on January 26, 2024 via Xl Recordings, and it’s now available to pre-order. Said album was recorded between Oxford and Abbey Road Studios, and is produced and mixed by Sam Petts-Davies. It features string arrangements by the London Contemporary Orchestra.

If you were a kid or teen in the 2000s, it's likely that you watched at least one movie featuring Josh Hutcherson, and it's also likely that you had a favorite movie with him in it. Hutcherson began acting in the early 2000s and had minor roles in a variety of TV shows before making his film debut in 2003's "American Splendor." From there, Hutcherson was launched into stardom and starred in a number of popular films throughout the decade, including "Kicking & Screaming," "Zathura: A Space Adventure," and "Journey to the Center of the Earth." By the 2010s, Hutcherson took on more mature roles and arguably landed his most popular role as Peeta Mellark in "The Hunger Games," which he would reprise for the remaining three movies in the beloved film series.

Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vaserhelyi’s Nyad is aggressively bad. The kind of bad where you have to wonder how it passed through the eyes of two otherwise-competent filmmakers (known for their documentary work), not to mention an entire production team and studio. With a Netflix logo, the bar is already lowered beneath what would be suitable for a theatrical release, but this biopic suggests something whipped together with minimal thought––from the words on the page given to the actors to basic blocking to how we move from scene to scene. Whatever skills they used to create the dizzying spectacle of Meru and Free Solo, Chin and Vaserhelyi feel like they got completely lost in the translation to narrative cinema.
The staging of both Annette Benning and Jodie Foster, two of Hollywood’s most lauded and storied actresses giving absolute career-worst performances, is akin to a Disney Channel afterschool special.

Paramount+'s highly-anticipated "Zoey 101" spinoff film, "Zoey 102," hit the streamer on July 27, and it features most of the original show's cast, including Jamie Lynn Spears. The new movie's plot sees Zoey confront the state of her life (and love) as an adult when she reunites with her Pacific Coast Academy crew at her friends Quinn and Logan's over-the-top wedding.
However, three of the show's main characters are noticeably missing from the reunion festivities. Victoria Justice, who played Zoey's friend Lola; Alexa Nikolas, who played Nicole Bristow for the first two seasons; and Paul Butcher, who portrayed Zoey's little brother, Dustin Brooks. The three original series staples will not be seen in the film for their own reasons.

It seems like people will become nostalgic for anything over a long enough period of time. Don’t believe me? Well, then how else do you explain Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore: a spiritual successor to the worst Legend of Zelda games ever?
Arzette: The Jewel of Faramor is an action-platformer that sees players control Arzette on her journey to save the Kingdom of Faramore. While Arzette‘s core gameplay looks fairly standard for the genre, the title’s visuals and voice acting certainly stand out. If those aspects of the game strike you as being slightly…off, that’s because they are. In fact, those “off” elements of the game are actually a tribute to the infamous Phillips CD-i titles Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon.

Tommy Wiseau has a lot to answer for. While he did not create the “bad movie” with 2003’s The Room, his misguided attempt to deliver “the passion of Tennessee Williams” resulted in a cult film which has regular theatre showings across the world. Many films followed to try and create a similar success story, but such a thing cannot be manufactured, and that is sadly evident in this work by co-directors Austin Frosch and Paul Dale.

Get on the phone with Ron Bernstein and he’ll happily share his views on who’s up and down at the studios — and inevitably, he’ll talk about his latest deals. On a recent call, he hyped the Redstone family power saga by James Stewart and Rachel Abrams, “Unscripted: The Epic Battle for a Hollywood Media Empire”; sure enough, within weeks it sold to producer Steven Paul, who’s developing the juicy Shakespearean drama for television.

In what is possibly one of the most elaborate anti-jokes in recent memory, a remake of Tommy Wiseau's "The Room" starring Bob Odenkirk will take the entire thing dead seriously. The volunteer organization Acting for a Cause has produced and staged the charity project for amFAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, with company creator Brando Crawford acting as director. Those who worked on the project have promised to not treat Wiseau's shining beacon of unintentional hilarity for laughs, including longtime comedian Bob Odenkirk, who tweeted out how excited he was about participating in this momentous occasion.
Created during the 2020 pandemic lockdown, Acting for a Cause usually stages script readings of plays and films over laptop video conference meetings. However, "The Room" will be more elaborate than the average table read, incorporating green screens to replicate scenes in the original film. The lack of location changes allowed the entire production...

Marvel better not call Bob Odenkirk.
The “Better Call Saul” star revealed that he is not interested in joining the MCU and prefers more “relatable” stories onscreen.
“I always like to keep things grounded, relatable, and smaller. I don’t think I’m built for that world,” Odenkirk told The Independent. “I’m built for characters that make you feel like that guy could live next door.”
Odenkirk’s upcoming sequel to action film “Nobody” is the furthest level of heightened anti-heroism he is interested in. “I care about this more than you could imagine,” Odenkirk said. “You’d think it’s the personal story of my life, and not an action-genre movie.”
The “Lucky Hank” actor previously shared that “Nobody” was a natural extension of “Better Call Saul.”

This year at Glasgow Film Festival, the 2023 FrightFest contingent offered eleven genre-bending feature films, packed into a horror-filled weekend of scares, screams, and…suddenly realizing you happened to pack a gun in your suitcase for the girls weekend – just after your best friend has been murdered by the psycho Bear-Man! A little too late…darn.
I had the great pleasure of catching ten out of the eleven films screened over the 10th and 11th of March 2023. Here are my thoughts and recommendations for which films you should catch if you can (or avoid like the plague) once they complete their festival runs and find distribution in the big, wide world.

The movies have always been at odds with new mediums, especially television. With the invention of the television and its ability to bring entertainment to the masses at home, movies began to revolutionize their format in order to re-attract audiences back to theaters. Films became bigger and wider with 70mm formats. The first trend of 3D movies attempted to capture the audience’s wonder. However, streaming is a whole different monster where it has been seen by many as the definitive movie theater killer. The Academy took a while to come around to considering streaming films to be nominated for awards. Last year saw Netflix films like All Quiet on the Western Front beat out theatrical releases in a couple of categories.
Puck is now reporting on the Academy’s newest strategy to help raise interest in theater-going. Rather than outright snubbing films that stream, there is a new proposal...

After twenty years of silence, Tommy Wiseau is back with an all-new feature film, his first since the immortal 2003 cult classic “The Room.” Is this cause for celebration or riots? It all depends on what one thinks of Wiseau: a lovable hack, a shameless charlatan, or some seemingly impossible hybrid of both things at once.

In any case, Wiseau’s next film is “Big Shark,” about three best friend firefighters who must save the city of New Orleans from, that’s right, a really big shark.

After 20 long years, The Room auteur Tommy Wiseau is back with a new narrative feature film Big Shark — and you better believe it’s got an extremely big shark in it.

The moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived. Tommy Wiseau has directed his first feature film since The Room, and the trailer for the project — dubbed Big Shark — is out now.
Per Variety, Big Shark follows New Orleans firefighters Georgie, Patrick, and Tim as they attempt to save their city from the titular fishy menace. In addition to writing and directing the film, Wiseau stars alongside Isaiah Laborde and Mark Valeriano. Wonderfully, the trailer for the picture looks like it was made in iMovie, with ridiculous red text assaulting the screen over dramatic action music before its stars are seen running through the streets of Nola, where the shark inexplicably manages to chase them.
Wiseau has big plans for Big Shark. The film will debut at a Portland screening on April 2nd before hitting other markets hosted by Prytania Theatres, with the filmmaker slated to appear at each event.

Shark movies are a dime a dozen, especially with schlock like Jersey Shore: Shark Attack, Sand Sharks, Ghost Shark, and so much more. But what happens when Tommy Wiseau, the visionary director of The Room, takes aim at the ocean’s most fearsome predator? Tommy Wiseau has released a new trailer for Big Shark, which is somehow the first movie he’s directed since the release of The Room twenty years ago.
The Big Shark trailer cuts back and forth between shots of New Orleans with two boxers fighting in a gym, all while the text reads, “You can Run. You can Hide. But that won’t save you. The world’s most vicious hunter has come to the bayou and only wants one thing… blood.” The film stars Tommy Wiseau as Patrick, Isaiah Laborde as Tim, and Greg Sestero as Georgie, three firefighters who must save New Orleans from a killer shark.

"You can run... You can hide... But that won't save you." Tommy Wiseau, famed director of The Room, is back!! I guess...? Maybe? A new trailer has debuted for his next feature film titled Big Shark. The second trailer for a shark movie out this week after The Black Demon, too. It's also Wiseau's only feature since The Room in 2003. The trailer launched on Variety along with a poster and info about a roadshow tour Wiseau is going on, playing the film in different cinemas around the country throughout 2023. So it will indeed be the return of Mr. Wiseau. The only simple synopsis available is: Three firefighters must save New Orleans from a shark attack. Because of course they do. It's no surprise to say that this looks like a parody film. Also a warning - the trailer ends halfway and suddenly turns into an ad for Wiesau's underwear brand - yes,...

There are few appreciators of ill-advised cinema that haven't seen "The Room," director Tommy Wiseau's so-bad-it's-legendary 2003 film that has become a true cult classic almost despite itself. It even inspired a much-acclaimed biopic in the form of A24's "The Disaster Artist," a film we called "a hilarious and sincere tribute to one of the worst films ever made." Now, a full two decades later, Wiseau is back in the director's chair for another presumably schlocky adventure. And this time, he's taking on the creature feature with a big, cheesy CGI shark flick appropriately titled "Big Shark." In even better news, we've got a trailer!
A teaser for the film first appeared online back in 2019, but now a new trailer has surfaced as the film readies for a select theatrical rollout beginning next month. According to Variety, these "Pre Premier" screenings will feature Wiseau in person and will be...

Tommy Wiseau can’t jump the shark: He is the shark.
The “Room” writer-director-star (auteur?) is officially back with his first feature film in 20 years. “Big Shark,” following the craze of the B-movie “Sharknado” franchise and spinoffs, follows three firefighters as they work to save New Orleans from one massive shark.
The tagline reads: “Can New Orleans survive?”
The trailer has been playing for audiences at theatrical screenings of “The Room” for the last few months, but the official trailer is now online. “Big Shark” will begin a nationwide rollout April 2 with a debut screening at Cinema 21 in Portland, Oregon, followed by New Orleans (April 28 and 29), San Francisco (May 5 and 6), Los Angeles (June 2 and 3), and at the Village East by Angelika in New York City.
Wiseau is set to appear in person for branded “Pre Premier” screenings, with the “Official Final Cut Version” of “Big Shark” being released only after an eight-month theatrical rollout window.

Tommy Wiseau is back behind the camera again. The director and star of “The Room” has debuted the trailer for “Big Shark,” his first follow-up feature to his trademark 2003 cult melodrama.
“Big Shark” follows three firefighters, Georgie, Patrick and Tim, as they work to save New Orleans from an attack by — you guessed it — a very big shark.
While this first look at “Big Shark” is only now being debuted online, the trailer has already been playing for audiences at theatrical screenings of “The Room” over recent months.
“Big Shark” will kick off its rollout on April 2 with a debut screening at Cinema 21 in Portland, Ore. Screenings will follow over the coming months, with a tentative schedule of engagements hosted by Prytania Theatres at Canal Place in New Orleans (April 28 and 29), the Balboa Theatre in San Francisco, Calif. Bob Odenkirk is not making fun of Tommy Wiseau. Yes, he’s doing a reading of the enigmatic filmmaker’s 2003 bad-movie staple The Room, in which he plays main character Johnny, through which Wiseau vented all of his frustrations with the world. But he has no intention of mocking the movie or its writer/director/star/hype-man Wiseau. “We didn’t make fun of it,” he promised Den of Geek while promoting his new series Lucky Hank at SXSW. “Because that’s already been done.”
More than a reluctance to cover well-trod ground, Odenkirk’s refusal to mock The Room comes from a place of love and respect. “I love that movie. I love everything about it. I love the phenomenon of it,” he enthused. So when asked to do a reading of the movie to support AIDS research foundation amfAR, Odenkirk didn’t have to think twice. “I said...

Michael B. Jordan‘s first foray into directing with “Creed III” has done quite well at the box office, and been generally enjoyed by critics and fans alike. Maybe it’s too early to consider its awards potential, but maybe not, because there seems to be more room for movies like “Creed III” now than when Jordan first played the title role in Ryan Coogler‘s “Creed” back in 2015.
What’s particularly interesting about that initial release is that it did get Sylvester Stallone nominated for his third Oscar, nearly 40 years after his first two Oscar noms for writing and starring in the original “Rocky” (1976). That iconic boxing drama led to a full-on franchise that was more about box office than awards, but “Creed” came at a time when people started taking Coogler more and more seriously following his acclaimed debut feature “Fruitvale Station.”

Bob Odenkirk’s dream is for cult hit “The Room” to be considered, in the immortal words of Harry Styles, a real film movie.
The “Better Call Saul” alum is set to take on the role of Johnny, as originated by writer-director Tommy Wiseau, for a remake of the 2003 film. The remake will benefit amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, with Mike Flanagan, Kate Siegel, Justin Decloux, Brando Crawford, Cameron Kasky, Arturo Castro, and Bella Heathcote rounding out the cast.
“The Room” follows San Francisco resident Johnny as he grapples with his fiancée cheating on him with his best friend. A first look at the philanthropic remake showed original cast member Greg Sestero on set.
Yet the outrageous script cemented the would-be Shakespearean tragedy “The Room” into cult B-movie status — something that Odenkirk singlehandedly wants to undo.

A film becoming a cult classic is never a guarantee. Some movies have all the makings of cult classics but then end up having so much mainstream appeal that they just become classic classics instead (see: John Wick). Other movies are made with the sincerest aspirations to quality only to become fan favorites when they fall well short (see: The Room).
Still, many more films appear to have all the elements in play for cult classicdom but inevitably end up in a DVD bargain bin or streaming service backpage all the same. Most of them deserve such a fate. After all, not everything needs a fandom. Some, however, deserve a second look. A prime example is John Singleton’s 2005 action film Four Brothers.

Bob Odenkirk is entering “The Room,” and hopefully it doesn’t tear him apart, Lisa. Deadline reports that the “Better Call Saul” actor will star in a for-charity remake of Tommy Wiseau’s notorious cult classic, which is famous for being one of — if not the — worst movie ever made.

“This is real. This is true,” Odenkirk added a day later. “And let me tell you, I tried my best to Sell every line, as honestly as I could… and I had a Blast.”

He did not hit her, he did naaahhhhtttt…But Bob Odenkirk did evidently star in a remake of 2003’s cult oddity The Room, shot 100% in front of a green screen.
Yes, that is an actual thing that is happening, with Bob Odenkirk himself confirming he would be leading the remake of The Room, tweeting, “This is real. This is true. And let me tell you, I tried my best to Sell every line, as honestly as I could…and I had a Blast.”

"The Room" has certainly earned its place in cinematic history, albeit as one of the most notoriously bad films ever made that managed to gain mainstream notoriety. Made by the elusive and strange Tommy Wiseau, the film celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. And it sounds like we will be getting a pretty bizarre treat to help commemorate that anniversary in the form of a remake starring none other than Bob Odenkirk of "Better Call Saul" and "Mr. Show" fame. Yes, you heard that right.
Buzz around this remake of "The Room" kicked up on social media, with podcaster Justin Decloux taking to Twitter to say, "I am very excited for the feature-length 'The Room' remake (Shot mostly on greenscreen) in which the Tommy Wiseau role is taken over by Bob Odenkirk -- and it's not played as a joke." We at /Film can confirm the legitimacy of this project,...

Aptly named for the acidic smell of deteriorating film, Vinegar Syndrome made an auspicious debut in 2013 with its inaugural release, The Lost Films of Herschell Gordon Lewis. In the decade since, they have unearthed, restored, and distributed hundreds of cult, exploitation, horror, action, and adult films.
Popping in a new Vinegar Syndrome disc is a bit like cinematic Russian roulette. It’s always interesting, but you never know if you’re going to get an obscure masterpiece, a campy B-movie, a so-bad-it’s-good slice of fun, or a dud. The unknown is half the fun, and discovering those diamonds in the rough makes it worthwhile.
In celebration of their anniversary, I’m highlighting 10 hidden gems from Vinegar Syndrome’s first 10 years.
To narrow the choices, I’m ignoring the heavy hitters like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 and The Amityville Horror, box sets like Forgotten Gialli and Home Grown Horrors,...

Leicester Square, London. A damp Saturday night in January. The Odeon, the largest cinema on the square, shines bright blue, the outside screens projecting images of Na’vi, hoping to entice us to step inside and watch Avatar: The Way of Water. Nearby, another of the large cinemas is covered in posters of Margot Robbie being carried through a blazing party; Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, which cost 90 million to make, is playing there. It’s not too busy—unlike around the corner where something remarkable is happening.
A line has formed outside the Prince Charles Cinema, a beloved theater known for spotlighting cult classics and frequently showing The Room. Now a queue isn’t exactly a rarity (we’re in Britain after all), but what these people are lining up for is. They’re not here for a Hollywood star paying a visit (although Brendan Fraiser was there a few...
