Mean Girls, but in a creepier, weirder version, that’s what I thought while watching Surviving the Sleepover by director Patricia Frontain. Instead of Regina, Karen, and Gretchen, we’ve got Melissa, Abbie, and Charlotte. And then there’s Hannah, the new girl in town, just trying to fit in after her dad passed away. We see Melissa has this weird protective thing going on with her stepbrother, Cameron. But is it really just sibling love? When Melissa invited Hannah over for a sleepover, she felt a little skeptical but thought to give it a chance to make new friends. But then, the sleepover got really weird! Strange things started happening, and Hannah wondered why she even came in the first place! Will they survive the night?! Let’s dive in and find out together!

From Disney darling to Academy Award winner, Brie Larson has carved a unique path in Hollywood. At just 30 years old, she has already acted in various movies, from small independent ones to big blockbusters. She even tried her hand at directing, with projects such as The Arm (2012), Weighting (2013), Unicorn Store (2017), The Dew Project (2021).
Her latest movie is The Marvels, in which she played Captain Marvel again. However, it didn’t perform well, partly due to criticism from fans who disliked the story or the villain. Negative reviews further compounded the issue, and there were problems with promoting the movie because of actor strikes.

Do you remember the show "Raising Dad"? The 2001-2002 single-season series from The WB grabbed my attention because it was another show starring "Full House" star Bob Saget, but would also serve as the gateway to two actors who would become all-time favorites of mine: Kat Dennings and Brie Larson. When it was announced that the latter was going to appear in "Fast X," I couldn't resist bringing up her history of playing a hot rodder in the Disney Channel Original Movie "Right on Track," and I'm always elated when people realize that Larson is one of the members of the Six Chicks clique in "13 Going on 30" and one of the popular girls in "Sleepover."

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

Prime Video has adapted the one-woman podcast “Empanada Loca” into a new series. “The Horror of Dolores Roach” will begin streaming on the service on July 7. Buckle up, because this one is gruesome. Roach (Justina Machado) returns to a gentrified Washington Heights after a long prison sentence and works as a masseuse in the basement of a friend’s empanada shop. But when her security is threatened, Roach is driven to extremes to survive.

Season 2 of “Good Omens” also will premiere on Prime Video in July. Arriving July 28, the series focuses on the friendship between Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), a fussy angel and rare-book dealer, and the snarky demon Crowley (David Tennant). While the Apocalypse has been averted, the pair are back living their lives in London, until the archangel Gabriel shows up. The series is based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

The American adaptation of The Office outlasted its U.K. counterpart by seven seasons. Now all 9 seasons of The Office are available on Peacock, but when it began in 2005, many of its stars thought they’d be out of work shortly after. The Office star Jenna Fischer credits one movie with saving the show.

Brian Baumgartner replayed his interview with Fischer on his Off the Beat podcast on March 7. Fischer suspects NBC only kept The Office going to be in the Steve Carell business.
Jenna Fischer did not expect ‘The Office’ to make it
By 2004, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s The Office was acclaimed. Both critics and fans were skeptical of the American remake, and the cast knew it.
“We shot the pilot in March of 2004 and my 30th birthday was March 7th of 2004,” Fischer said on Off the Beat.

It's the beginning of the end for the "Fast & Furious" franchise, with "Fast X," the first half of the two-part conclusion of the series, speeding its way into theaters later this year. As was announced in 2022, Academy Award-winner and Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson, is joining the "Fast" family as the mysterious new character, Tess. While little has been made known about her new character, Larson's past performances make her a perfect addition to the action franchise centering on fast cars, heists, spies, and loyalty.
Larson has been acting since she was just a child, with her breakthrough performance on the sitcom "Raising Dad" occurring when she was only 12 years old. She would go on to appear in bit parts in films like "13 Going on 30" as one of the Six Chicks, or in "Sleepover," where she plays an 8th grader with a driver's license because she's been held back so many times.

It’s been more than six years since news first emerged of a potential remake of “Splash”, the beloved 1984 fantasy in which Tom Hanks starred as a guy who falls in love with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah).
In 2016, Deadline reported that the remake would switch things up by casting Jillian Bell in the Tom Hanks role, while Channing Tatum would play the sexy merman.

Now, Deadline is reporting that the project has being revived with the hiring of a new screenwriter, Sarah Rothschild (Netflix’s “Sleepover”), tapped to rewrite the script.
According to the report, Bell remains attached to the project; it’s unclear, however, whether the same applies to Tatum, or if another actor will be cast in the merman role.

Deadline has seen correspondence sent by UK broadcasting union Bectu to representatives for the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 outlining “widespread and prolonged complaints of mismanagement and bullying” at Chatterbox, having received “short of ten thousand words of written testimony from Bectu members alleging this behavior.”
That letter, sent in February of this year, asked that the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 “investigate this matter thoroughly and cease existing commissions while an investigation is underway.”

The critically acclaimed “PEN15” is poised to make history at the upcoming Emmy Awards as Hulu’s first-ever Best Comedy Series nominee. The sophomore season of this laffer is currently ranked fourth in our exclusive odds. Two years ago co-creators Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle, who play middle school students, reaped a writing bid for the first season; they lost to Phoebe Waller-Bridge for season two of “Fleabag.”
In season two of “PEN15,” their characters continue to navigate school life, including love-obsessed witchcraft phases and dealing with divorced parents, while maintaining their everlasting friendship. The show rose in the estimation of critics and has a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes (up 6% points) and is at 93 on Metacritic (up 11). It could ride this wave to the Emmys, where the Best Comedy Series race is wide-open with only one of the past two years slates of contenders (“The Kominsky Method”) eligible again.

The Top 10 most-watched list on Netflix is a very fluid thing, one that’s constantly changing on a weekly or sometimes even daily basis, with subscribers regularly switching up their tastes with reckless abandon. Over the last few months, the rankings have thrown up plenty of surprises as box office bombs and awful movies alike somehow find themselves among the most popular titles on the world’s premiere streaming service.
Arguably the best way to gauge a movie’s popularity on Netflix though is to review the Top 10 on a monthly basis, based on the sound logic that any project worth a look would spend longer than a few fleeting moments hovering around the list. Luckily, today marks the first day of September, and it would be an understatement to say that August’s most-watched movies have resulted in more than a few curve balls.

Today is March 1st, which means we have a whole new set of titles to tell you about that just dropped on Netflix. The streaming service has 54 new movies/TV shows from nearly every major studio, including Warner Bros., Paramount and Sony, and while that number is still ten less than what we got last March, there’s far more original content on the service than there was a year ago. So, trust me when I say you’ve got plenty of options.
So many options, in fact, that I often find myself browsing for so long that I can’t decide on what to watch until it gets too late and I go to bed instead. First world problems, right?
In any case, below you’ll find the full list as well as a few descriptions of some personal favorites. Or some that I just felt like commenting on.

Netflix is adding a robust line-up of popular programs to its slate in March.
In addition to rom-coms like Matthew Mcconaughey’s “Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past,” “He’s Just Not That Into You” and “Always a Bridesmaid,” the streamer is also adding a few classics like “Goodfellas” and “The Shawshank Redemption” starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. The latter film also serves as an analogy for actor Macaulay Culkin’s journey to freedom, according to his Esquire interview.
Original Netflix shows coming to the platform next month include “Lost Girls,” “Crip Camp” and Season 3 of “Elite.” Based on a true story, “Lost Girls” follows a mother who, in her desperate search to find her missing daughter, helps to uncover a string of unsolved murders. Amy Ryan, Gabriel Byrne and Thomasin Mckenzie make up the cast.

With February 29th fast approaching – this is a Leap Year, remember – Netflix is preparing to roll out a fresh helping of new content for March 2020.
It’s a familiar combination of original series, time-honored classics and beloved franchise films, with next month set to herald the arrival of Resident Evil: Apocalypse and its undead sequel, Extinction. Sure, it’s a far cry from the quality and craft of The Lord of the Rings – speaking of which, both the Twin Towers and The Return of the King will be departing Netflix in four weeks’ time – but the saga of Alice still carved out an audience to call its own.
Also peppered throughout Netflix’s March 2020 catalog are some big-name horror titles and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, including Signs and the third season of Ozark. And then there’s the third season of Castlevania, which, it’s fair to say, has been a long time coming.

Here's what's new on Netflix in March 2020! We've got a complete list of what's leaving, too.
Normally the big story for each month of Netflix new releases are the exciting batch of Netflix original series and movies arriving. For Netflix's new releases for March 2020, things are a little bit different. Yes, there are some cool originals here but...look at those movies!
March 1 sees the arrival of Corpse Bride, The Shawshank Redemption, There Will Be Blood, and Goodfellas! Martin Scorsese likely can't unilaterally decide when and where his movies stream, but it is a happy coincidence that Goodfellas will now exist alongside The Irishman.
As for those Netflix originals...Ozark is the biggest returning hit in March. The story of a very corrupt family airs its third season on March 27. Also of note are Castlevania season 3 (March 5), Altered Carbon: Resleeved (March 19). But really after Goodfellas, nothing else was really necessary.

Netflix is out with its list of everything coming and going in March, and highlights include “Ozark” Season 3, coming March 27, and the Brazilian version of the popular reality competition “The Circle,” coming March 11.
There’s good news and bad news. The good news is we’re gaining some beloved mid-2000s films, like “He’s Just Not That Into You,” “Valentine’s Day” and “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Corpse Bride” and “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events,” plus some ’90s favorites like “Space Jam” and “GoodFellas.”
The bad news is that throughout the month we’re losing “Black Panther,” “Eat Pray Love,” “The Waterboy,” “P.S. I Love You,” “Batman Begins,” both “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “The Two Towers,” and “Kill Bill” Volumes 1 and 2.

Adam Driver no doubt a talented actor, but as he’s proven with his previous hosting stints on “Saturday Night Live,” he’s also a pretty funny dude. The combination of that talented actor thing — as he’s currently nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for “Marriage Story” — and the “SNL” writers giving him weird things to do makes for an especially funny combination each time he’s hosted.
The best sign of the New Year for “SNL” is that its first monologue of 2020 is an original one. Not a singing monologue, no “audience” Q&As, no cast participation. Just Adam Driver — you know, “Adam from ‘Girls’” and “Kylo Ren from the space one” — proving that, unlike the characters he plays, he’s chill. Chill enough to finally notice the subway set for “SNL”, chill enough to explain that he’s really bad at smiling (“I look like a kidnapped...

The Trevor Project is touted as the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for Lgbtq young people. Long before she was a Best Actress Oscar winner, Brie Larson had a different title: wannabe pop starlet. Joining the ranks of early 2000s teen queens Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff, Larson nabbed a record deal, releasing tracks like "She Said" in 2005 at only 16. In the music video for "She Said," her highest-charting single from first album Finally Out Of P.E., Larson rocked out on a green guitar while donning the fashions of the day: a zebra-print shirt and frayed miniskirt. Larson even hit the road, joining Teen People's 2005 Rock in Shop mall tour with the likes of Jesse McCartney.

While there are still not enough good roles for women out there, particularly in mainstream Hollywood, that hasn't stopped a batch of young female stars from exploding from out of nowhere in recent years. Head-turning performances have helped launch faces like Carey Mulligan, Mia Wasikowska, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Felicity Jones and many others into the stratosphere, and the success last weekend of "The Hunger Games" has hopefully put to rest the fallacy that huge audiences won't turn up to big movies carried by a woman.

I really liked Ti West’s “The Innkeepers”. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting, which was actually kind of surprising. What’s more, the film helped me develop an appreciation for Sara Paxton, an actress who, until this point, was cast in motion pictures that I had absolutely no interest in. “Shark Night” included. No offense to Paxton, of course. I’m sure she does a fine job in “Aquamarine” and “Sleepover”. I’ll never know, mind you, but I’m sure she’s great. Really. Anyway, here’s what “The Innkeepers” is all about: The story is centered around the final two employees working in a haunted hotel before it goes out of business. After over one hundred years in business, The Yankee Pedlar Hotel is about to close its doors for good. The last remaining clerks, Claire (Sara Paxton), a twenty something that has come...

The Innkeepers is a take on the classic, haunted hotel story from horror writer/director Ti West. Although it had the potential to be terrifying, it couldn't go further than just being creepy. The typical tale of an abandoned bride’s ghost that lingers in the hotel could have been less cliché with a more focused plotline, but it does manage to hold itself together long enough to be an entertaining romp. The main reason to watch this film is for Sara Paxton’s performance, to see the last remaining ties to her kid-friendly movie days (she was the star of Aquamarine and Sleepover) disappear. Bringing to life an asthmatic, dopey teenager with a perfect balance of comedic timing and right-on-cue horrific reactions, she not only claims the title of one of Hollywood's modern day scream queens...

Lifetime has acquired the rights to the true story about that teen that faked her pregnancy in high school just to see what she was treated like. You remember that story?
