What movie fan doesn't miss Rick Moranis? The star of such favorites as Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, Little Shop of Horrors, Parenthood, My Blue Heaven and the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids franchise has been absent from the screen since the 1997 direct-to-video sequel Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. He was last heard in the 2006 direct-to-video animated movie Brother Bear 2. While he hasn't exactly been retired completely (he's been putting out music albums as recent as 2013), he has been laying low in the decades since his wife's death from breast cancer in 1991. He's claimed he's mostly just been picky. That was his reason for not participating in last year's Ghostbusters remake, which...

Mel Brooks wants to make a sequel to Spaceballs - but he'll need to persuade Rick Moranis to come out of retirement to make it.
If you ask us, Darth Helmet has been away from the big screen too long. Played by the mighty Rick Moranis, Darth Helmet was the antagonist in the patchy yet hugely enjoyable 1987 Mel Brooks comedy Spaceballs.
And now, as the Star Wars franchise itself gets a reboot, Brooks has declared his intention to make Spaceballs 2.
He was chatted about the project on Adam Carolla's podcast, where he revealed that he wants Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money to arrive in cinemas in the midst of the new Star Wars trilogy.
That said, there is a snag with regards the project. Both John Candy and Joan Rivers have sadly passed away, and thus Brooks admits he'd need to coax Rick Moranis out of retirement to reprise his villanous role.

Internet is going crazy with the possibility of “Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money” being in the works.
Well, not so fast.
Everything hinges on retired actor Rick Moranis reprising the famous role as Dark Helmet. The Canadian actor hasn’t been in anything since he provided his voice for 2006’s “Brother Bear 2.” And he physically hasn’t starred in a movie since 1997’s “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.”
“Spaceballs” director Mel Brooks told Adam Carolla’s “Take a Knee” podcast that he’s working on “Spaceballs 2” and already approached the actor to replay Dark Helmet. The movie will only happen if Moranis comes out of retirement for it.
Here’s the quote from the podcast:
“Maybe I could do another musical, maybe I could do another movie. I was thinking about Spaceballs the other day. In Spaceballs, in the movie, Bill Pullman says to me, Yogurt, just plain Yogurt,...

Back in the summer of 1989, Rick Moranis had three films in the Us top 20 - each going on to be a $100m+ hit....
Feature
On August 4th 1989, the film Parenthood opened at number one in the Us, taking $10.5m on its opening weekend. It knocked Turner & Hooch off the top spot down to second, with Lethal Weapon 2 rounding out the top three.
Parenthood is lots of things. It's a very strong comedy. It's a film that boasts one of the finest comedic ensembles brought together in one movie in the last 25 years. And it's a movie that's spun off two really quite different television series.
But if you look at that top 20 box office chart for the weekend of August 4th-6th 1989, then you might just notice a pretty impressive achievement on top of all of that. For one actor had three films in the top 20, at the same time.

Chicago – In the Disney canon, few recent films are less-remembered than “Brother Bear,” a movie that came out as acclaim and animation legacy was transitioning from the Mouse House to Pixar. It’s one of the last hand-drawn animation films in the history of Disney and came at a time when CGI was about to dominate. Only ten years old, it looks more like an early ’90s product. And yet it was huge. It made over $250 million worldwide. So, it clearly has serious fans who will love to own it and its straight-to-dvd sequel, “Brother Bear 2,” in HD.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
“Brother Bear” is a sweet, gentle film that came out at a time when Pixar was revolutionizing the form. It also feels just a bit too much like a retread of stuff that Disney had done before, both in classics and even recently in films like “The Lion King” and “Pocahontas.

Life of Pi I don't always include the 3-D Blu-ray version when I put together this column, but with Life of Pi that's sort of the whole point right? I mean, if anyone talks about this movie the first, and sometimes only, thing they talk about are the visuals. Personally it was only an "okay" movie that I didn't really think amounted to much, but I expect it will have a rather impressive life on the home video market following its Oscar wins.
The Blob (Criterion Collection) Blu-ray I watched this Blu-ray on Sunday night and listened to the commentaries yesterday on and off throughout the day. This isn't exactly a feature-rich release and we're talking about more of a classic sci-fi film from the late '50s with a nostalgia factor for some and a certain level of intrigue from cinephiles, but is it a "must buy"? The commentary...

The fall box office season is a theatrical limbo between the sizzlers of summer and awards-magnets of winter, but four new wide releases will freshen multiplex marquees this weekend.
Any effect on industry fortunes from the season's second frame might have to come collectively, as none of the market entrants is assured of ringing up more then teen millions through Sunday. That's unfortunate with Hollywood having launched its new domestic season last weekend with a 10% year-over-year downtick.
Friday's start of Yom Kippur won't help. But the somber religious holiday generally hurts only older-skewing pics and only in larger markets, so youth-seeking new films should be relatively unaffected.
Sony's teen comedy "Easy A" looks to be the strongest of the new movies and is tracking best with young females. Directed by Will Gluck ("Fired Up!"), the PG-13 pic stars Emma Stone, Amanda Bynes and Penn Badgley in a tale of high...
