Gillian Taylforth surprised viewers of Channel 5's The Wright Stuff today (January 21) when she revealed that Rylan Clark had been regularly exiting the Celebrity Big Brother house to rehearse for the X Factor live tour. The ex-contestant, who was evicted from the show on Friday (January 18), seemed unaware that Clark's jaunts were against a major principle of the closed-house reality competition. Channel 5 has since confirmed that Clark has been leaving the house for rehearsals. Digital Spy readers, our forum users and Twitter followers have been vocal since the news broke of what is seen as a deception. Former contestant and Reveal Big Brother columnist Nicola McLean said: "I am furious - this defeats the entire point of the show. No exceptions have ever been made before. This is Rylan Clark, not Michael Jackson." Journalist (more)...

Channel 5 has confirmed that Rylan Clark has been secretly leaving the Celebrity Big Brother house to complete X Factor rehearsals. Evicted housemate Gillian Taylforth accidentally revealed information about Clark's departures from the compound during an appearance on The Wright Stuff earlier today. Following Taylforth's comments, the broadcaster said in a statement: "Rylan has rehearsed for his tour on site with a choreographer, escorted by a Big Brother producer." When asked by Digital Spy why Taylforth had mentioned "a driver" in her comments about Clark, a show rep said that the singer may have been driven around Elstree Studios. > Celebrity Big Brother viewers react to Rylan Clark scandal Clark's exits from the house break from the main principle of the show - that contestants live in complete isolation without (more)...

Celebrity Big Brother star Rylan Clark has been regularly leaving the house for X Factor tour rehearsals, according to former contestant Gillian Taylforth. The ex-EastEnders actress, who was voted out of the show on Friday (January 18), made the revelation during an appearance on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff today (January 21), seemingly unaware that Clark's exits go against a major principle of the show - that contestants live in complete isolation. Speaking on the programme about how housemates were not allowed to know the time, Taylforth said: "Rylan went out to do X Factor rehearsals... obviously he wasn't allowed to talk about it, but when he came back he'd just ask somebody the time very quickly like [his] driver, and we said to him when he'd get in, 'What's the time?'" Emmerdale returnee Kelsey-Beth Crossley has promised that viewers can expect "a bit of drama" from her character Scarlett Nicholls when she arrives back in the village. Scarlett is back on screen tomorrow evening (October 31) in the build-up to the funeral of her half-brother Carl King (Tom Lister), who was killed off in the soap's live episode earlier this month.

Hollyoaks star Carli Norris has admitted that she sometimes finds it difficult to have sympathy for her troubled character Martha Kane. Martha, who was introduced to screens in January, has an alcohol problem which has often adversely affected the lives of her children Ash, Callum and Lacey. Speaking on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff today (July 26), Norris explained that she has been researching the storyline during filming with help from Hollyoaks bosses. Norris commented: "I did as much [research] as I could. Fortunately for me, I haven't had that kind of lifestyle - I'm not a big boozer myself, and it wasn't a big thing in my family. Edgar Wright, the man who brought us the brilliant musical zombie death set to Queen in Shaun of the Dead, has confirmed that he’s written a script that’s “kind of like a musical.” According to The Moveable Fest‘s recap of Wright’s curation of films at the New Beverly called The Wright Stuff, the director explained his choice of showing the 1964 Jacques Demy musical romance The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (featuring French superstar Catherine Deneuve) thusly: “I’ve written a script which is kind of like a musical. Slightly a departure for me in some ways, but when I’ve told people about the movie and the idea, most of them have said, ‘You’ve got to see Umbrellas of Cherbourg,’ So here we are.” At this point, fans will probably eat up anything from the talent who seems potentially, endlessly flexible. The final film in the Cornetto Trilogy would be a welcome sight to...

[1] Edgar Wright's been keeping very busy over the past couple of years, what with exec producing Attack the Block and Sightseers, programming for the New Beverly Cinema [2], writing The Adventures of Tintin, and whatnot. But none of those quite qualify as a follow-up to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and we're still waiting to hear what his next big endeavor will be. The filmmaker has a few different prospects at this point, including the Ant-Man adaptation [3] for Marvel, the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost project The World's End [4], and the mysterious actioner Baby Driver [5] -- and now we might be able to add "unnamed musical that may or may not be like The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" to the mix as well. During a recent screening of Cherbourg for his The Wright Stuff program at The New Beverly, Wright revealed that he'd been working on a musical. It's not clear whether...

You know, apart from executive producing one of my favorite films this year (Joe Cornish’s excellent Attack The Block), co-writing what’s sure to be one of the biggest films of the year (The Adventures of Tintin) and doing a whole host of probably incredible stuff that he’s only hinted at on his Twitter feed, lovable Brit Edgar Wright has also found the time to program two separate series at Los Angeles’ bastion of 35mm glory, The New Beverly Cinema.
At the start of the year, lucky film fans got a taste of some of Edgar’s favorite films. Now, at the end of it, we’re getting a glimpse at classic films he hasn’t seen. Beginning Friday, December 8, Edgar Wright will host 8 evenings of films he’s never seen.

We did a preview of what was playing at the event [1]and now that it's over, Wright has provided his own look back with some reveals of the many surprises he provided to Los Angeles fans. Check out some highlights after the break. On Wright's blog, Edgar Wright Here [2], he posted a huge list of thank yous and more. Here are some of the highlights of what he posted.

What is Movie News After Dark? This is a question that I am almost never asked, but I will answer it for you anyway. Movie News After Dark is Fsr’s newest late-night secretion, a column dedicated to all of the news stories that slip past our daytime editorial staff and make it into my curiously chubby RSS ‘flagged’ box. It will (but is not guaranteed to) include relevant movie news, links to insightful commentary and other film-related shenanigans. I may also throw in a link to something TV-related here or there. It will also serve as my place of record for being both charming and sharp-witted, but most likely I will be neither of the two. I write this stuff late at night, what do you expect? Zach Braff tried to do it. Kevin Smith tried to do it. Steve Pink tried to do it. Now Warner Bros. is trying to start again with Fletch… again...

Edgar Wright had a blast, by his own account, presenting his second The Wright Stuff program at the New Beverly (an L.A. rep theater saved by Quentin Tarantino): I wish I'd seen some of this. I had a blast when I attended a rare Joe Dante double feature there--and met Dennis Cozzalio for the first time (here's his report on the Wright program). And Wright's report: And so my second season at the New Beverly is over. I cannot say how much fun I had curating it, talking with all my guests and, most importantly, watching all the movies on 35mm with a full house. As I said every night, my second season of programming double bills was a purely selfish exercise. Even though I ...

Not only has Edgar Wright directed the greatest love-letter to Toronto ever penned (not to mention to comics, video games and Hk action - see Shelagh and Todd's review) he has given the city itself fantastic opportunities to immerse itself in celluloid classics through his terrific film series The Wright Stuff. As if Toronto wasn’t spoiled enough by its annual international film festival, The Bloor Cinema (596 Bloor Street) will be showing a series of diverse genre flicks over the course of six weeks programmed by Shaun Of The Dead director Edgar Wright, who’s in town shooting his new film Scott Pilgrim Vs.
