- Bronco finds the owners of the Rocking Chair ranch, Gil Groves and Petrie Munger, have split the ranch allowing a feud to develop. Munger has hired a sadistic gunman, who beats Bronco and Groves' foreman leaving them in the desert to die.
- Bronco receives a letter from his friend Gilbert Groves at the Rocking Chair Ranch saying he needs help. As he approaches the ranch he runs into two old hands with a gunman watching them stringing wire across a pass he remembers as open land. At the Rocking Chair Ranch entrance he sees the name of Petrie Munger crossed out. Groves had owned and run the ranch while Munger oversaw the livestock. At the ranch house first Joe Spain, the foreman, and then Gilbert Groves greet him. Bronco reports what he saw on the way in. Groves says things have changed since he wrote Bronco. Groves agreed to give Munger half the cattle anytime he wanted them for his work on the ranch. Munger has taken his 5000 head but now wants half of the ranch which the law has said he is not entitled to. Bronco and Spain take a ride to Munger's place to discuss the fencing. They are told that two gunmen Munger hired, Judd Gander and Tony Gomez, have filed on the open land in the pass that prevents Groves from moving his herd. After a fight Gander, without Munger's okay, decides to eliminate Bronco and Spain by leaving them to die in the desert.—Anonymous
