- While Enterprise is visiting Earth, Phlox is abducted by the Klingons and forced to research a cure for a virus destined to wipe out the race. Reed is tapped by a secret agency and ordered to betray Archer. Trip transfers to the Columbia.
- On Earth Dr. Phlox and Hoshi are attacked by aliens, who kidnap Phlox. Captain Archer vows to find him. Reed tries to access the satellite logs, but suddenly gets in contact with a person he seems to know. He orders him to acknowledge his past and works against Archer. T'Pol mind melds with Hoshi and they both find out Rigellians were responsible for the kidnapping. Archer orders Enterprise to follow their trail, not bringing Trip along. He transferred to the Columbia, where some of the crew find him difficult to work with. Trip dreams about T'Pol and strangely she seems to have the same dream. Meanwhile Phlox finds himself amongst Klingons. They want him to find a cure for a lethal virus that has the potential to wipe out the entire population of the Empire.—Arnoud Tiele (imdb@tiele.nl)
- On 27 November 2154, the chief-engineer Trip says goodbye to the Enterprise crew to work with Captain Hernandez on its sister ship, Columbia. Meanwhile in San Francisco, Dr. Phlox and Hoshi are attacked by three aliens after having dinner, and Phlox is kidnapped. Archer asks Reed to investigate any trace of transporter activity in the area. When Reed checks the satellite logs, he is contacted by an acquaintance who schedules a meeting with him. Trip uses his experience to keep the scheduled launch date of Columbia, and Hernandez questions why he quit his position on the Enterprise. Archer convinces T'Pol to perform a mind melding with Hoshi and they discover that the abductors were Klingons. They seek the Rigelian cargo ship that transported Phlox, but find only debris. Meanwhile Phlox is brought to a Klingon laboratory to work with Dr. Antaak, researching an antidote to a deadly virus created from a Kinglon experimen. When the Enterprise is attacked by four mutant Klingons that sabotage the ship, Captain Archer discovers that Reed is not telling the truth and he loses his faith in his lieutenant. The subroutines Klingon planted in Enterprise system affect the reactor and the Enterprise needs to keep more than warp 5 to avoid the explosion of the reactor and only Trip is capable to purge the viral subroutines.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Enterprise returns to Earth in time for the launch of the second NX class star-ship, Columbia, and Commander Tucker prepares for his transfer. Meanwhile, Ensign Sato and Doctor Phlox are attacked in San Francisco, and Phlox is kidnapped. Captain Archer and Lieutenant Reed investigate the scene, and Reed is given a secret assignment by a secretive agent that he seems to know (Reed is contacted on-board the Enterprise and ask to come to an Earth address to receive his assignment).
Commander T'Pol, seeking information from Sato (Sato seems to remember that one of the abductors spoke in a foreign language, and is not sure), conducts her first mind-meld, and the two realize that the attackers spoke Rigelian. They discover that a Rigelian freighter recently left orbit and head off in pursuit.
On Columbia, Tucker ruffles a few feathers of his new team (by telling them to get the engineering specs more exacting than whats written in the protocols) (The crew start to dislike Tucker instantly as he makes them work triple shifts), and Captain Erika Hernandez (Ada Maris) asks the reasons behind his transfer. Later, T'Pol, in her quarters, begins to meditate and mentally goes to her white cloud quiet place only to have a slightly confused, but still amused, Tucker show up there and start arguing with her. The moment of the shared vision (despite being on different ships) is broken when a disoriented Tucker appears to come out of a momentary daydream on Columbia.
Enterprise locates a destroyed Rigelian ship (Reed tells Archer that he cant identify who attacked the Rigellian ship) (on an encrypted link, the secretive agent tells Reed to lie to Archer and blame the attack on Orion pirates who operate in this area). while investigating, they are suddenly attacked and boarded. MACOs repel the attack and a captured alien is taken to Sickbay, where scanners show that despite his human appearance, he is in fact Klingon. Archer then discovers Reed's complicity in evidence tampering (Archer finds that Reed deliberately erased the recorders from the Rigellian ship) and confines him to the brig. Archer also learns that the boarders sabotaged the ship, and now ship increases speed to warp 5.2, the fastest it has ever been. Archer has to keep the speed high as else the pressure on anti-matter injectors would increase and the reactor would blow apart. T'Pol finds a Klingon sub-routine inside the warp matrix protocols.
Phlox is taken to Qu'Vat, a Klingon colony where General K'Vagh (James Avery) and Doctor Antaak (John Schuck) seek his help to cure a Klingon plague. Antaak says that if the plague is not stopped, the entire species may be in danger of extinction. To Phlox's horror, K'Vagh kills an infected Klingon so that an autopsy can be performed. Phlox determines that the victim's DNA has been supplemented with that of a genetically augmented human.
Phlox also learns from Antaak that they experimented with augmented DNA after the events seen in "Borderland" (The Klingons were afraid that Earth would have augments man their star-ships and the Klingons would be vulnerable to this new threat) (The Klingons got a number of embryos from the wreckage of the destroyed bird of prey), but it self-mutated (one of test subjects had a flu) and escaped.
Antaak and Phlox are told that they have five days to cure the outbreak before it is too late (The Klingon High Council has dispatched war-birds to eradicate all the infected planets and colonies). Antaak suggests that the only course of action is to create stable augmented Klingons (& prove to the High Council that the experiment succeeded), but Phlox refuses to assist further.
Columbia leaves space-dock.
