Severin continues to impress with their incredible box set releases and their latest announcement was an instant pre-order for me: a collection of five remastered Christopher Lee movies and a rarely seen, Christopher Lee-hosted, anthology horror TV series:
(Los Angeles, CA) On May 25th, Severin Films is releasing a box set of buried gems from one of cinema’s most seminal figures - Sir Christopher Lee. He remains one of the most beloved horror/fantasy icons in US/UK pop culture history, but Christopher Lee delivered several of the most compelling, acclaimed and bizarre performances of his entire career in 1960s Europe. The Eurocrypt Of Christopher Lee brings together five of these Lee classics - the 1964 gothic shocker Crypt Of The Vampire; the 1964 cult hit Castle Of The Living Dead co-starring an unknown Donald Sutherland; 1962's celebrated Sherlock Holmes And The Deadly Necklace; 1967's lurid favorite The Torture Chamber Of Dr.

It’s hard to talk about “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” — a somewhat funny and largely conventional movie about a very funny and wholly unconventional man — without talking about the film’s borderline-insane framing device. If you know absolutely nothing about “National Lampoon” co-founders Doug Kenney (Will Forte) and Henry Beard (Domhnall Gleeson), and would like to keep it that way until David Wain’s biopic can illuminate you on its own terms, consider this a reluctant spoiler warning. For everybody else… well, it’s certainly a choice.
Here’s the gist: Adapted from Josh Karp’s book of the same name, “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” retraces the true story of how two subversive Harvard grads took the road less traveled, started the most dangerous satirical magazine in American history, and became ground zero for a generation of comics that included the likes of Bill Murray and Gilda Radner.

From a certain perspective, monster movies might not seem to be as relevant during monstrous times. But in an age when our fears seem larger than life and the world constantly seems as though it’s on the brink of collapse, the best examples of the genre can almost assume a documentary-like authenticity, reflecting our reality as vividly as vérité ever could.

“I can’t sing, I can’t dance, I can’t write… no real talent. But I’m pretty, and I can make money off pretty.”
Amazon Studio’s The Neon Demon directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, is a sumptuous horror-thriller, set in the highly competitive and often vicious world of fashion modeling, where the term “eat their own” takes on a decidedly new meaning. When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will use any means necessary to get what she has. The film is co-written by Refn (Bronson, Drive, Only God Forgives, Valhalla Rising), Mary Laws (”Preacher”) and Polly Stenham; and stars Elle Fanning (Maleficent,Super 8), Karl Glusman (Love, Stonewall), Jena Malone (Inherent Vice, The Hunger Games series), Bella Heathcote (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Dark Shadows), Abbey Lee (Gods of Egypt, Max Max:...

When Edgar Wright abruptly abandoned Marvel’s Ant-Man last year, the script went through several big rewrites – at the hands of Adam McKay, Gabrial Ferrari, Andrew Barrer and the titular bite-sized Avenger himself, Paul Rudd. While we were initially told that those “giant” rewrites happened to tweak the film and conform it to Marvel’s vision, we’re now hearing that they could have also been made to include references to another upcoming Avenger: Spider-Man.
That’s right, rumor has it that Spider-Man will be the focus of several Easter eggs in Ant-Man. The report comes from Latino-Review, who state that Ant-Man will plant “plenty of seeds” to usher in the web crawler’s debut McU appearance in Captain America: Civil War next year. This will help bring Spidey back to the big screen without another retread of his origin story, and show that, by the time Scott Lang suits up as Ant-Man,...

Thanks to the return of Valerie Cherish, 2014 was the year of the comeback — or at least, The Comeback. We hope 2015 follows suit, because there are some long missed celebrities we want back in a big way.

While the former and eternal Seth Cohen still works steadily, we miss seeing him regularly and have always wished he’d blown up way bigger than he has. Hopefully his role in the upcoming Kevin Smith flick Yoga Hosers, as well as his great working relationship with the David Wain/Ken Marino crew behind The Ten and Burning Love, will ensure this is the year everyone remembers what a gem we had in Mr. Leighton Meester.
Brody’s TV father, Peter Gallagher, told Big Morning Buzz Live he tried to convince him to try out his signature eyebrow look.

After having been picked up for a cool 7 million dollar and some change price tag by the Weinsteins at the Toronto Int. Film Festival back in 2013 and closing the Tribeca Film Fest the following year, in its July release, Begin Again performed quite well at the indie box office and generally well revered. A good will tour for a revitalizing look at Keira Knightley, as well as another exuberant performance from Mark Ruffalo. Luckily the scandal erupting over CeeLo Green happened afer it could have a potential detrimental effect on driving audiences away from the theater.

Come Undone: Wain’s Cliché Buster Episodically Funny
Every now and then, director David Wain delivers a great film with his certain brand of offbeat humor darkly shining, particularly with Role Models (2008) and Wet Hot American Summer (2001). At the very least, his less successful ventures feature standout performances from someone in his regular crew of comedic comrades (Michaela Watkins in Wanderlust, for instance). But arriving with the Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd headlined They Came Together (yeah, it’s supposed to mean that, too), finds Wain at his most strained since the episodically structured The Ten. Except, this film might have actually benefitted from a string of vignettes harpooning ridiculous rom-com tropes rather than the befuddling exercise at hand centered on two people that we’re watching solely as performers engaging in sketches rather than actual characters, utilizing a variety of broad comedic styles that feel lifted from the likes of The Naked Gun.

How To Save a Life: Carney’s Anticipated American Film a Pleasantly Loveable
Though trudging through a somewhat ungainly and slightly anachronistic set-up, John Carney’s latest, Begin Again (originally titled Can a Song Save a Life?) manages to gain a momentous degree of charm in its latter half, ending on a note that’s as satisfyingly untethered as its opening moments are rigidly formulated. Inexplicably, Carney is also able to squeeze some magic from a cast that seems staggeringly opposed to such a stunt, at least judging from a multitude of similar packaged deals in a squalid market of workmanlike indie films featuring such flora and fauna. While the music is hardly as catchy as the Academy Award winning compilations from his 2006 film, Once, a buoyant attitude sometimes fills in here, at least enough to make for an emotionally satisfying final act.

Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler in David Wain’s “They Came Together”
They Came Together
Written by David Wain and Michael Showalter
Directed by David Wain
USA, 2014
Molly (Amy Poehler) and Joel (Paul Rudd) are likable singles who reside in New York that we immediately want to get together and stay together but beyond the initial thrills of seeing them meet, the material of David Wain’s They Came Together soon turns disappointingly repetitive. Mimicking The Shop Around the Corner and You’ve Got Mail, Molly’s small candy business goes up against Joel’s employer- the Corporate Candy Company. They have direct personal conflicts with each other but there is an undeniable pull of attraction between them that can’t be ignored. From ridiculing falling-in-love montages to klutzy bumblings on dates, this film in no way approaches the absolute zaniness of the best of Wain’s previous achievement with...

He made a brief appearance as “White Power Dave” in Marvel One-Shot All Hail the King, but it appears as if the studio now have even bigger plans for Dexter and Avatar actor Matt Gerald.
As an inmate of Seagate Prison, Gerald’s character butted heads with Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin wannabe, Trevor. This could potentially link to Ant-Man as Scott Lang (played by Paul Rudd) did spend some time behind bars in the comic books before being paroled for good behaviour.
This leads us to wonder whether we’ll perhaps see Lang come to blows with Dave while serving his sentence or whether they both escape when The Ten Rings broke out Trevor. It’s all connected, and it’s thing type of thing which really distinguishes Marvel!
Of course, Gerald’s role in All Hail the King was a minor one, so there’s always the possibility that...

Clip and Poster for David Wain’s Rom-Com Spoof They Came Together Starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler
David Wain’s latest, They Came Together should have a full trailer soon, but for now enjoy a funny clip and even a funny poster. The rom-com spoof stars Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler, and if you’re familiar with Wain’s work (The State, Wet Hot American Summer, The Ten, Stella) you will notice he’s back to his old tricks of pointing out the absurd in hilarious fashion.
This time around it’s the romance genre and favorites of everyone (as it should be) Poehler and Rudd tackle chemistry like only they can. It didn’t work with Tina Fey and Paul Rudd, as Admission was on my worst of 2013 selection, so let’s hope this one pulls off the laughs instead.

If you checked Our 11 Most Anticipated Films We Can't Wait to See at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, then you already know a bit about They Came Together, and you know that it's the film I'm most excited to see. Wet Hot American Summer director David Wain returns to the indie festival with his loving, romantic comedy parody that stars Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler in a You've Got Mail love story situation. The first poster takes the space usually reserved for accolades from film critics and replaces them with simple facts from a story that Deadline wrote about the film. Ed Helms does indeed star in the film. Filmmaker David Wain’s reputation in the comedy world has seen a steady increase since the release of his first feature film Wet Hot American Summer, as he has followed it up with well-received movies such as The Ten and Role Models, as well as working on shows such as The State and Childrens’ Hospital. Many of Wain’s fans were intrigued to learn that he was back to working on another film, interest which was further piqued by the announcement of Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd in the lead roles. Wain takes on directing duties once again, splitting writing duties with Michael Showalter. The first clip from the movie, which will be making its debut at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, has now been released, and can be seen below.

David Wain and Michael Showalter, the team that brought us Wet Hot American Summer, has a new comedy coming to Sundance this year called They Came Together. The movie stars Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, and the movie is supposed to be spoofing romantic comedies. I'm not really a big fan of spoofs, but there is smart way to make a spoof and a stupid way to make one. It looks like they did this one right.
After having already made world-changing cinematic statements on adolescence (Wet Hot American Summer), religion (The Ten), service (Role Models), and community (Wanderlust), I teamed up with Michael Showalter to take on a topic that (to our knowledge) has yet been seen in the movies: Romance — particularly heterosexual romance between two white people.
Our next idea was to mix this romance story with humor – so you could almost call this a Romantic-Comedy, so to speak.

The romantic comedy genre is both an easy target and somehow difficult to spoof properly. We have high hopes, however, for Role Models writer-director David Wain, who is putting the box office disappointment of Wanderlust behind him by putting two of his Wet Hot American Summer ensemble, Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, back together for They Came Together. The first clip is below. They Came Together takes – well, rips – a page from The Shop Around The Corner and remake You’ve Got Mail for the tale of small business owner Molly who somehow finds love with corporate titan Joel (Rudd). And yes, they apparently both like fiction. Returning behind the camera for his follow-up feature to 2012’s Wanderlust, David Wain is about to share with the world his latest comedy, They Came Together, at Sundance later this month.
The film reunites him with a slew of past collaborators, with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler leading the charge in the romantic-comedy with a spoof twist, a blend not often seen on the big screen at all.
Ahead of its debut at Sundance in a week and a half’s time, the first clip and poster have debuted over on BuzzFeed, giving a great first look at the kind of comedy we can expect.
They Came Together relates the epic love story of Joel, a corporate executive for Candy Systems and Research, a mega candy store chain, and Molly, the owner of a small sweet shop called Upper Sweet Side. When Joel is tasked with shutting down Molly’s mom-and-pop operation,...

Here's a top ten stream of thought quickie for you. Let's just say it's in honor of Olivia Wilde who has been bouncing around in my head since that Boogie Nights live read last week and who won the StarMeter award from the IMDb last night. Congratulations on being so eminently, um, searchable, Livvy.
Olivia Wilde in Rush
I have to admit I don't quite get her appeal but Congratulations! Her career is white-hot right now (Rush is playing at Tiff and winningly surprisingly strong reviews) and she's engaged to Jason Sudeikis. Without further ado, off the top of my head and just for fun...

Chicago – Director Lee Daniels is on a mission of education. With now two generations removed from the height of the 1960s civil rights movement, Daniels hopes to revive and highlight that history in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” – the sensitive and emotional story of one family’s journey through the winds of change.
The story behind the unusual title designation – the addition of Lee Daniels’ name – was necessary because of another film entitled “The Butler” from 1916. Daniels’ version encompasses 80 years in America through a crucial time for African Americans, as it follows the path of a butler – portrayed by Forest Whitaker – as he makes it to the highest level of his profession, a job at the White House. As Whitaker’s character serves presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan, his is a father to a son who is right in the middle of the 1960s Freedom Riders, lunch counter sit-ins and the Panther Party.

We watch films to experience heightened emotions, one of the main ingredients being love. 90% of all Hollywood movies have some sort of love story shoehorned in, whether it truly belongs there or not, because Hollywood seems to think that’s the only way to rope in the female audience.
Most of the time, it gives the viewers an excuse to watch incredibly rich attractive people kiss all over each other, a bit of wish fulfillment for those men and women who would sacrifice their child to share a kiss with George Clooney. But sometimes, these love scenes go horribly wrong and give us enough emotional scars to put a therapist’s kid through college.
Here are 10 movie kisses that may make you wish you had a time machine. You have been warned!

Opening in seventh place this weekend with just $5.0 million on 2,043 screens, "Movie 43" marks one of the poorest wide-release openings of Hugh Jackman's career. Or Kate Winslet's. Or Halle Berry's. Or Emma Stone's. Or those of Elizabeth Banks, Kristen Bell, Kate Bosworth, Gerard Butler, Josh Duhamel, Anna Faris, Richard Gere, Terrence Howard, Greg Kinnear, Johnny Knoxville, Justin Long, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, Liev Schreiber, Seann William Scott, Jason Sudeikis, Uma Thurman, or Naomi Watts. How does a comedy with so much star power -- more than two dozen big-name celebrities earned top billing, including at least two past Oscar winners and two current nominees -- and still fail to open big? You can't exactly call "Movie 43" a failure; it reportedly cost just $6 million to make, with all the actors working for union scale and pre-sold deals with entities like Netflix for its ancillary rights. And...

Once upon a time, there were three talented screenwriters who graced the screen with some of the funniest films in the history of the media. The trio known as Zaz (or Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker) were behind some of the most revered comedies of all time, including Airplane!, The Naked Gun and The Kentucky Fried Movie. That last film was a sketch comedy movie that was released in 1977, forever setting the bar for films of that ilk.
Jump forward a few decades and here we are in 2013, with Movie 43 seeking to find its own niche in the sketch comedy genre. With a cast that features a laundry list of talented performers and a group of big-name directors behind the camera, it should be statistically impossible to screw this up. Think about Wet Hot American Summer and The Ten (maybe not so much the latter, but in this case, it...

Leprechauns, ruined birthdays, and home school taunting.
Romantic comedy anthologies are becoming rather popular these days, particularly ones that revolve around a particular holiday, but comedy anthologies are a hard thing to come by — 2007's The Ten comes to mind as does the classic Kentucky Fried Movie — but coming early next year is Movie 43, which stars almost the entirety of Hollywood and has a director list almost as long. In fact, it's hard to believe there are some actors and directors that aren't associated with Movie 43.
Revealed in just the red band trailer alone, Chris Pratt and Anna Faris share a romantic(?) moment; Halle Berry ruins a blind kid's birthday; Terrence Howard reminds a basketball team of the advantage they have; Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts decide to give their home-schooled son an authentic high school experience; Emma Stone checks in on Kieran Culkin's Std; and Seann William Scott...

A Priest, A Rabbi and Your Mom Walk Into a Movie Theatre…
You might think that your Mom disapproves of all horror films on principle. At least that’s the stereotype: the wagging finger; the warning that horror films cause nightmares. But the truth is that this is merely a bit of parental judo, reverse psychology designed to push us to watching horror films, because nothing warns us and upholds the moral order like a horror film.
What are the elements of a horror film after all? There is a monster; there is a sense of danger (as critic Joe Bob Briggs puts it “Anyone can die at any time”); the deaths are usually gruesome; and there is usually a moral. If you think about it, fairy tales and horror films are not that far apart – they are even closer to one another in the fairy tales original Grimm-er forms,...

With Russell Crowe playing Noah, Paul Verhoeven bringing us Jesus and Warner Bros tackling Moses, the movies are well and truly back in the good book
The good book is back in showbiz. Darren Aronofsky has a bearded Russell Crowe for Noah. The documentary Bible Quiz is in post-production. Will Smith's directorial debut will be Cain and Abel (reportedly with a vampire twist). Paul Verhoeven's Jesus of Nazareth has its finance in place. Justin Theroux is rewriting Swear to God – a comedy about a hedge-fund manager who has seen the Almighty. Ridley Scott, Warner Bros – with a rumour of Spielberg directing – and the Chernin Entertainment Company all have Moses movies. Mary Mother of Christ, a film about the life of Jesus up to age 12, is currently prepping, as is Langston Hughes's Black Nativity, with a cast of Samuel L Jackson, Angela Bassett and Jennifer Hudson. When talking about the best comedic stars of today, it's hard to find one that isn't in some way connected to David Wain. Thanks to his work on The State, Wet Hot American Summer, Role Models, The Ten and Wainey Days, the writer/director has worked with almost every single comedy star today, including Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd. Long before the two actors were facing off against one another on Parks and Recreation they were both part of the ensemble cast that made up Wet Hot American Summer. And now Wain is bringing them back together on the big screen once again. Variety reports that Rudd and Poehler are now set to star together in a romantic comedy parody called They Came Together. The project is being produced by Lionsgate, which is a change for Wain, as his last two films - Role Models and Wanderlust - were made...

Since making his feature film debut with Wet Hot American Summer in 2001, director David Wain has never made a movie without Paul Rudd. From the dickish Andy in the summer camp comedy to the narrator with a moral dilemma in The Ten, to the acerbic and bitter Danny in Role Models, Wain has always turned to Rudd for his projects. But what is it about the actor that makes Wain never want to make a movie without him? Fortunately, I recently had the opportunity to ask. With Wanderlust arriving in theaters, I had a chance last week to sit down with David Wain to not only talk about his working relationship with Paul Rudd, but also how he worked on the script with co-writer Ken Marino, the confidence that comes with being surrounded by friends on a movie set, and what.s going on with the Wet Hot American Summer...

On paper, “Wanderlust” probably looks like your standard high concept romantic comedy. Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd are two New Yorker’s displaced by job loss who decide to go on the road and figure out what to do with their lives. They wind up on a rural commune called Elysium where the conventions of modern living and societal standards have been thrown out the window. Hijinks ensue. But for those in the know who’ve been following the career of David Wain and his group of pals since they first turned heads on the MTV sketch comedy show "The State" in the mid-‘90s, the humor of “Wanderlust” is probably a little bit stranger than your standard rom-com. Wain’s comedic sensibilities stray a little more towards the avant-garde than modern movie audiences might expect.

Directed by: David Wain
Cast: Jennifer Aniston, Paul Rudd, Justin Theroux, Malin Akerman
Running Time: 1 hr 38 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: February 24, 2012
Plot: A Manhattan couple (Rudd and Aniston) must move out of their newly purchased place. A random encounter on a commune convinces both of them to give the alternative lifestyle a chance.
Who’S It For? If you’re a fan of Wain’s other films (Wet Hot American Summer, The Ten) along with the comedy of Paul Rudd or “The State,” this film is for you.
Expectations: Aniston, hmm? That was my thought. Then I remembered The Switch. The concept was terrible, but Jason Bateman and Aniston weren’t a bad team. I like Rudd, so I figured this pairing could work. Plus, I caught one second of the preview and saw Aniston in bed with Akerman. So there’s that.

After helping make "The State" a highly regarded TV series, director/writer/actor David Wain naturally delved into feature filmmaking. The bizarre character-building that made the show such a hit came with him, and Wet Hot American Summer and The Ten were fine ideas on which he could cut his teeth. Role Models came in 2008, and, like Wanderlust, his latest film, it rode a fine line between odd character display and somewhat typical rom-com fare. It's more the latter with Wanderlust. But Wain and his co-writer Ken Marino have created a comedy that doesn't compromise either side of its tone. Plus it's extremely funny. Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston play George and Linda, a young, New York couple who are barely holding on, striving for survival in their tiny, studio apartment. After some employment misfortunes - George comes to work to find his boss being arrested by the FBI, and...

Democracy is a flawed concept. Here are 50 films that the IMDb voters would unfairly have you believe are worth no more than 5.9/10…
Six out of ten isn’t a very good score, really. It’s barely over half marks. 60 per cent. It’s alright, but it’s not great. You wouldn’t be proud of getting six out of ten on most kinds of tests, would you? So you might assume that any film that scores under six stars out of ten on the IMDb isn’t very good – possibly even terrible.
But that’s not always the case. Averages don’t tell the whole story; anything that’s potentially controversial or divisive will end up with a score that suggests most people weren’t that bothered about it, since high and low scores will be averaged – and IMDb users often exaggerate their scores anyway, giving a film one star...

The mad genius of David Wain can currently be seen on every media platform available. On Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, you can see his work as writer-producer-actor on the cult TV series "Children's Hospital" or hear him voicing the Warden on their animated series "Superjail!" His award-winning webseries "Wainy Days," which details his wacky dating adventures, is in its fifth season on My Damn Channel and a DVD of the first four seasons has just been released. And hitting theaters this week is "Wanderlust," an offbeat comedy starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston that Wain directed from a script by himself and Ken Marino. Marino, who co-wrote "The Ten" and "Role Models" with Wain, also appears in "Wanderlust" as Rudd's jackass brother—a character not too far removed from his "Role Models" stepfather. Wain started out his career as part of the influential comedy troupe The State, whose members such as.

It's taken a while but "The State" veteran David Wain has cracked the mainstream. Having made his directorial debut a decade ago with the cult classic "Wet Hot American Summer," Wain took a while to get anything going again, but came roaring back with two films in two years, anthology "The Ten" and Paul Rudd/Seann William Scott-starrer "Role Models," the latter of which became something of a sleeper hit. He's back again, reuniting with co-writer Ken Marino and star Paul Rudd for "Wanderlust," hitting theaters this weekend, but it looks like Wain has some small-screen plans too. In an extensive profile in the New York Times (which also reveals that the creation of "Wanderlust" was inspired by Lukas Moodysson's excellent "Together"), Wain reveals that a spin-off of "Children's Hospital," the celebrated Adult Swim comedy series he developed with Rob Corddry, is in the works. Since it's an R-rated comedy, the previews for all audiences trying to get people to see Wanderlust have been somewhat lackluster. Thankfully Paul Rudd and the promise of a scantily clad Jennifer Aniston may be generating more interest, not to mention that most of the supporting cast members and filmmakers from Role Models are back with this romantic comedy. Now we get a sense of the raunchy, sexual nature of this comedy with a new red band trailer which just showed up exclusively at Break.com and Screen Junkies. Joe Lo Truglio's behind makes an appearance, but you'll have to wait for Aniston's backside in theaters. Here's the red band trailer for David Wain's Wanderlust: An urbanite couple branches out to live a more "counter-culture" lifestyle at a community called Elysium. Here’s a new clip from Wanderlust, the forthcoming comedy – released in the UK on March 2nd – starring Paul Rudd, Jennifer Aniston, Malin Akerman, Justin Theroux and Alan Alda, which comes from director David Wain who previously worked with Rudd on the fantasic Wet Hot American Summer, as well as The Ten and the hilarious Role Models.
George and Linda are an overextended, stressed out Manhattan couple. After George is downsized out of his job, they find themselves with only one option: to move in with George’s awful brother in Atlanta. On the way there, George and Linda stumble upon Elysium, an idyllic community populated by colorful characters who embrace a different way of looking at things. Money? It can’t buy happiness. Careers? Who needs them? Clothes? Only if you want them.
