Following the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris this evening, former Vice President Al Gore suspended his Live Earth 24 hour telecast held in advance of the United Nations global warming summit scheduled to happen in the French capital November 30. “Out of solidarity with the French people and the City of Paris, we have decided to suspend our broadcast of 24 Hours of Reality and Live Earth. Andy Summers has said that he is open to reuniting The Police for a new tour. The 'Roxanne' band regrouped in 2007 after two decades apart for a record-breaking world tour and headlining slot at Live Earth, but Sting has since ruled out another reunion. "It wasn't easy. There was nothing new in it - no new songs, no new energy, no desire to take that as a platform and move somewhere else," Sting said in 2010, adding: "I had an instinct that it was the right time to realize that asset, and I was right. It was purely an exercise in nostalgia." In a new interview with Billboard, guitarist Summers acknowledged the well-documented personality conflicts within The Police while also suggeSting a reunion isn't entirely out of the question. Madonna released her first single 30 years ago. That means she's officially been a part of the danceteria that is our collective subconscious for three decades. Damn. The only proper way to celebrate is with a photographic timeline, a one-a-year retrospective of Madonna's defining images, videos, and pop culture moments per year. Let's jump from 1982 to 2012 in 30 fabulous photos.
1982: The spiky journey begins.
1983: A lucky star is born.
1984: The "boy toy" bombards the '84 VMAs
1985: Never been healthier.
1986: Herb Ritts captures Madonna at her truest and bluest
1987: "La Isla Ciccone"
1988: From "boy toy" to "gal pal" with Sandra Bernhard
1989: This time, "M" stands for "Metropolis" in the unbeatable "Express Yourself" video.
1990: Striking a pose in "Vogue"
1991: We knew she'd wow at the Oscars "sooner or later."
1992: Enter Dita.
1993: Lost in a "Fever" dream

Madonna, Facebook
Because it's pretty great.
An early rumored setlist for Madonna's upcoming Mdna tour, which kicks off May 29 at Tel Aviv, Israel's Ramat Gan Stadium, has been kicking around the Interweb. It hasn't been confirmed, but the source is pretty darn dependable when it comes to Madonna matters, so we thought we'd bring it to you so we could talk it out.
Lending a bit more credibility to the rumored setlist, during her Facebook chat with Jimmy Fallon to promote Mdna, Madonna said that the theme of the show's first act would be "transgression." "I like to have a theme for my show and create a dramatic arc," she told Fallon. "Then I try to make the songs fit within that arc."
If we're talking transgressions, opening with a video intro of "Erotica"/"Justicy My Love" and segueing into "Girl Gone Wild," as you'll see below, seems right...

It's been a busy few weeks in Madonna land.
We finally got confirmation that the Queen of Pop would indeed be headlining the halftime show at Super Bowl Xlvi. Soon thereafter, a series of tweets from Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. revealed that filming for the video to "Gimme All Your Luvin," the first single from her forthcoming, still-untitled 12th studio album, was underway. And this week, we found out that said album would be released by Interscope as part of a three-album deal, making her label-mates with Lady Gaga and Eminem.
"We couldn't be happier to work with [Interscope's] Jimmy Iovine, [Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Group] Lucian Grainge and the entire Interscope team," Madonna's longtime manager Guy Oseary said in a statement. "We anticipate a very bright future at our new home."
Now comes word that Her Madgesty has started rehearsals for her Super Bowl performance and the alleged setlist has been leaked to fan site Madonnarama.

Today marks the four year anniversary of "American Idol in 60 Seconds." Deep breath.
To celebrate, we've re-posted the first "Idol in 60 Seconds" I ever produced. (In 2008, most of my early recaps were taken down thanks to a change in our video encoding process.) It's funny to think that only a few hundred people saw this four years ago when it premiered.
As you can see, not much has changed in the snark-a-second formula. Hell, I'm still sitting at the same cluttered desk. (Seriously, MTV? Will you ever give me an actual office?)
The rest is history, as they say. By my count, I've done 101 more "60 Second" entries since, summarizing everything from :Project Runway" to "Trl," from Al Gore's "Live Earth" concerts to actual elections, from Paula Abdul's gonzo Bravo reality show to Kelly Clarkson's "My December" drama.
The recap segment has been praised by "Idol" winners, Bravo...

While An Inconvenient Truth (2006) undeniably drove popular activism and awareness of global warming, like any pop-culture object that succeeds at zeitgeisty relevance, the merits and memories of the film itself have been muddied by the subsequent trends and media non-events that have followed. Al Gore and Davis Guggenheim's film now seems inseparable from the recent wave of 'green chic,' including the optimistic and opportunistic Live Earth (7/7/07) benefit concert, and the ManBearPig parody on South Park. Amidst the increased demand for eco-friendly consumer items ranging from the Toyota Prius to energy-efficient light bulbs, academic and environmental writer Bjorn Lomborg (The Skeptical Environmentalist) proposes that the current proposals (including the Kyoto Accords) carry a financial cost that far outweighs their ability to reduce carbon emissions. Ondi Timoner's new documentary Cool It serves as a platform for Lomborg's proposed solutions on how to alleviate the effects of global warming. Appealing...

Or, no thank you, ma'am. I just don't know. I'm confused, it's noisy in here and what is real, what is fictional - what is imitation and what's authentic - are all merging and muddied.

On Saturday (August 7), AFI took the stage in the middle of the afternoon to perform at their first ever Lollapalooza. The quartet certainly aren't strangers to the festival experience, as they have played Warped, Live Earth and any number of European shows. But they had never been to Lollapalooza before — at least, not on stage.
"Me and Adam went to the first Lollapalooza back in 1991," frontman Davey Havok told MTV News yesterday. "It was an incredible lineup: Jane's Addiction, Trent Reznor, Butthold Surfers. And Living Colour — spandex!"
In fact, the 1991 version of Lollapalooza — which was originally organized by Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his legendary band Jane's Addiction — is one of the reasons drummer Adam Carson is making a living as a member of a rock band today. "I remember that festival was the first time I really wanted to be on stage," he told MTV News.

It's pretty obvious that the Foo Fighters work pretty well together. After seeing a handful of band members come and go during the band's first two recording cycles, the core lineup of Dave Grohl, Chris Shiflett, Taylor Hawkins and Nate Mendel have been together for the better part of a decade and have achieved great success, selling millions of albums, filling stadiums around the world and even headlining the White House.
But the quartet seems to spend an awful lot of time away from each other. Today marks the release of Shiflett's first solo album (which he recorded as Chris Shiflett and the Dead Peasants), which is quite the departure for the former axe man for San Francisco punk band No Use For a Name. Rather than the buzzsaw riffs that have made the Foo Fighters huge, Shiflett's album errs more on the side of the Foos' quieter material, and...

Former U.S. vice president-turned-environmental campaigner Al Gore has split from his wife of 40 years. The Oscar winner announced the news of his separation from Mary 'Tipper' Gore in an email obtained by Politico.com on Tuesday, June 1.
The statement from the former couple, who celebrated 40 years of marriage just last month, reads, "We are announcing today that, after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate. This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration."
The Gores have four grown-up children.
Since descending from his presidential throne in 2001, Gore has been a kind of celebrity through his green projects. He produced a documentary called "An Inconvenient Truth" which won the Oscar. He also helped organizing charity concerts Live Earth in 2007.

All this week, MTV News will be going through the nominees for this year's official summer jam. You'll be able to vote all week on the official 2010 summer song poll for one of our five nominees, which include Usher's "Omg," Katy Perry's "California Gurls," B.o.B's "Airplanes," 3Oh!3's "First Kiss" and Lady Gaga's "Alejandro." You can also endorse your own pick for the official 2010 summer song on our poll.

While earthquake relief in Haiti was the reason for and inspiration behind "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief," there's no question that it featured some amazing, one-of-a-kind musical performances.
The songs chosen by most of the artists had a thematic connection to the occasion, and the soaring lyrics delivered by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Mary J. Blige and Justin Timberlake underlined the hope for the country that's coming from around the world. The songs' unplugged, often gentle renditions underscored the seriousness of the situation.
George Clooney helped organize the event, and his hope is that the songs carry the event beyond the evening and into the following weeks, months and years.

John Legend has performed in huge stadiums to massive crowds at the Super Bowl, WrestleMania, political conventions and at Live Earth. He's a guy who by now should be comfortable with fame and attention. But last night during his performance at New York's Madison Square Garden — the first time he has ever headlined the iconic arena — he seemed just slightly overwhelmed by the energy of it all.
"I used to sing this song in clubs," he said before launching into "Stay With You," the final song in his set. "And I couldn't wait for the day I got to sing it in Madison Square Garden."

I know I will get a wave of hate from admitting this but I had never seen ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ before. I have, of course, heard of the film and seen clips before, but I had never watched the film. I finally got a chance to yesterday on Blu-Ray. While I don’t believe it lives up to the hype as one of the funniest films ever made, it is nevertheless a very funny film. Some parts were flat out hilarious while others provided some minor chuckles, but I was always entertained.

King of the gypsy punks, Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hütz has fast become known as one of indie rock's highest-energy performers, his multi-ethnic rebel band's rollicking accordion-and-fiddle swagger raising the room's temperature while Hütz swings from the rafters. (There aren't enough superlatives to do their staggering live shows justice.) Yet some might better recognize the Ukrainian emigrant-turned-downtown New York icon from the cinema, not least because he had to shave his renowned curly mustache for Liev Schreiber's 2005 directorial debut "Everything Is Illuminated." As Alex, the blinged-out Michael Jackson fanatic and Ukrainian tour guide to Elijah Wood's visiting Jewish-American nerd, Hütz hilariously steals the show faster than you can say Jonathan Safran Foer.
Leave it then to Madonna to seek out what lies between the fascinating facts and fictions of Eugene Hütz. The pop legend, still reinventing herself as a 50-something Material Girl, will surprise quite...

Former U.S. Vice-President and Live Earth co-organizer Al Gore's son has pleaded guilty to possession of illegal drugs and will enter rehab to avoid serving time in prison. Al Gore III agreed to spend 90 days in a residential rehab clinic during an Orange County, California court hearing on Monday. The 24-year-old was pulled over by police for speeding on Independence Day. During a search of his hybrid Prius, cops found a stash of prescription drugs, including 140 Vicodin pills, and marijuana. Gore had faced three years and eight months in prison. Orange County District Attorney spokeswoman Susan Kang-Schroeder denied Gore is receiving preferential treatment: "This is what anyone coming off the street would be eligible for. Gore didn't get any more or any less than anyone else."...
