Originally, Yann Moix's Podium (2004) star Benoît Poelvoorde was signed on for the main role, but bowed out at the last minute, delaying the film significantly. Before Franck Dubosc, the role was then offered to Jean Dujardin, who passed on the project (a fact which is referenced in the finished film).
A lot of the dialogue had to be re-recorded due to severe sound problems on set, causing the sound in the finished film to visibly not be in sync with the image.
Lucy Gordon committed suicide little more than a year after the shooting on this film wrapped. Yann Moix had only praises for the young actress and said her death upset him deeply.
Despite high expectations due to Yann Moix's previous surprise hit Podium (2004), the film was a financial failure, debuting at the eighth spot in the French charts (the fourth highest grossing new release of that week) and dropping over 65% in ticket sales in its second week.
