Here's something you probably didn't expect to see today: A trailer for a Chinese remake of the '90s horror B-movie classic "Anaconda." Yes, really. And, to be perfectly honest, you're probably not prepared for just how bonkers this thing looks. Of course the original movie is pretty bonkers on its own, but this is taking things to another level. Before we discuss this further, it's probably best you watch this insanity for yourself. Check it out above.
So yeah ... much to discuss, much to process. First and foremost, the broad beats of the plot appear to be in line with the original film, with some extra stuff thrown in there. Most notably, there appears to be a lot more giant snake action. The original "Anaconda" had an animatronic snake that was very tough to work with, which limited director Luis Llosa a bit. Here? It's just lots of pretty decent CGI craziness.

Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.

Columbia Pictures has ordered a reboot of 1997's Anaconda with Snow White and the Huntman's Evan Daugherty attached to write.
Never doubt the public's appetite for enormous, man-eating snakes...or at least movie studios' perception of the public's appetite for man-eating snakes.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures has ordered a reboot of 1997's monster horror hit Anaconda. Evan Daugherty, writer of Tomb Raider and Snow White and the Hunstman, is attached to write the film. No director, producer, or release date has been assigned yet.
Anaconda was critically panned when it was first released in 1997 but soon became a cult classic. The original actually featured a pretty impressive cast including Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Erik Stoltz, Danny Trejo, and Owen Wilson. The film followed a documentary crew in South America attempting to shoot a story about a long-lost indigenous tribe along the Amazon.

The killer snake will strike again!
A new reboot of the 1997 horror film Anaconda is being developed by Sony’s Columbia Pictures, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
While not much is known about the new film as of yet, writer Evan Daugherty, who worked on Snow White and the Huntsman as well as the 2018 reboot of Tomb Raider, will write the script, the outlet reports.
Sources told THR that the reboot will be a reimagining of the cult classic, which the studio hopes will be similar to the 2018 campy shark film The Meg, which raked in over $530 million at the box office.

The Meg's success has got some people wondering if there's gas in the oversized snake tank.
Resident Evil franchise masterminds Constantin Film and Jb Pictures have got a Titanoboa movie in development. The movie is looking to The Meg for inspiration as it plans to feature the giant extinct snake coming back from the dead somehow to wreak havoc, likely on some wholly unprepared humans.
The Titanoboa movie is being fast-tracked, according to Deadline, and will begin filming next year. There are no cast details to share with you yet, but Tony Giglio is penning the script right now. Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer, the team working to make Monster Hunter a success, are behind the film.

In 1943, audiences flocked to see Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man, the first Universal picture to feature two franchise monsters in a fight to the death. The fight didn’t come until the closing moments, but audiences didn’t care – they were seeing the creatures onscreen together for the first time, and that was enough.
Decades later, the bar for horror pictures had fallen so low that watching Tara Reid run away from a Sharknado – not once, not twice, but three times – constituted great entertainment. Or if that wasn’t your cup of tea, you could watch Debbie Gibson run away from Mega Shark.
Horror films aren’t what they used to be, and you have to wonder about the minds that dream up such concepts as David Hasselhoff Vs Killer Snakes (Anaconda 3), Alice Cooper Vs Rubbery Monsters (Monster Dog) and Gary Oldman Vs The Vengeful Spirit (The Unborn...

Much to my disappointment, Ghost Storm is not a disaster-horror hybrid about a supernatural storm cloud that rains ghostly ectoplasm which steals the souls of everyone it touches. Or is it?
No, actually, it isn’t. But doesn’t that sound like a perfect pitch for a Syfy flick? As does the actual plot of Ghost Storm, and not surprisingly, since it happens to be a Syfy original movie currently in the works.
An action packed chase led by Hal and Ashley to save the people on this small island from a strange electrical storm which is led by angry souls from a mass suicide looking for revenge.
Electrical storm? Angry souls? Mass suicide? I hope the ending involves a meteorological exorcism involving the use of Kool-Aid because that would be… I shouldn’t be giving stuff like that away for free; gotta save it for my raining ectoplasm flick.

Is this the kiss of death for an already fledgling franchise? It was confirmed yesterday, via press release, that David Hasselhoff (whom you may remember from such classics as TV's Baywatch or Anaconda III: Offspring) has joined the cast of horror sequel Piranha 3Dd. Hasselhoff will join the previously cast Ving Rhames, Gary Busey, Christopher Lloyd, Danielle Panabaker and David Koechner. No word on the plot of this one as of right now, but I'm imagining it's something along the lines of; Piranhas, breasts, guns and more half-eaten penises. As a big fan of the first flick, I'm hoping the Hoff's part is relatively minor. Ever since his Britain's Got Talent gig, he's just become a bit of a joke.

Source: FilmShaft - David Hasselhoff Joins The Cast of Piranha 3Dd
Last time we reported on Piranha 3Dd: The Sequel it was to reveal the news of returning cast members Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames and Paul Scheer. As we mentioned back then, this film will be set in a water park, but luckily we can now confirm that there'll be a seasoned lifeguard around to help out when things inevitably go downhill. That's right, The Weinstein Company announced today that 'Baywatch' veteran and thief of many a lonely housewife's heart David Hasselhoff is onboard (one might say on surfboard, if one was a bit of an idiot).
No news yet as to who the Hoff will be playing, but the actor at least has experience dealing with dangerous predators. How can anyone forget his moving performance in TV movie 'Anaconda III', in which he fought,...

Thanks to the guys at WorstPreviews.com, we scooped up the trailer for Anaconda: Trail of Blood, the fourth installment of that snaky series. Directed by Anaconda III director Don E. FauntLeRoy, written by Anaconda III writer David C. Olsen, and starring Anaconda III star Crystal Allen, Anaconda 4 feels more like Anaconda III: Part II than a fourth installment to the franchise kicked off by Jennifer Lopez back in 1997. But we're not really complaining. Olsen's script involves a genetically created Anaconda that has been cut in half but regenerates itself into two giant snakes which means giant snake attacks and bloody madness will ensue. Hit the jump for the trailer and keep an eye out for Anaconda: Trail of Blood attacking DVD...

I've been pretty impressed with our teams' Casting Bites pieces, so I thought I'd borrow the format and use it for genre-style news that might not be Huge information, but is interesting enough (to me) to bear repeating.
For example, I knew that director Jon Knautz was planning hoping to turn his scrappy little Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer into a franchise, but now we're getting some early details on where Mr. Brooks might be headed next. The filmmaker promises more action the next time around, plus they have a few unlikely partners for the angry hero to deal with. The screenplay isn't finished yet, but apparently the project is a go. (Check out this report at Filmstalker for more.)
Also, a very cool little horror flick called Splinter is opening this weekend in limited release, and if you're the sort who doesn't mind driving a few extra miles for your claustrophobic bio-terror monster movies,...

Under normal circumstances an Anaconda sequel made for the Sci-Fi Channel would not elicit any degree of excitement of my part but when the sequel stars David Hasselhoff and the prospect of seeing "The Hoff" fight and possibly get eaten by a huge snake looms on the horizon, yeah, consider me officially interested.

Rounding out the cast are Crystal Allen, Patrick Regis, and Anthony Green in the prerequisite attractive female, token black, and handsome riverboat captain roles.
