2009 is not exactly a year that horror fans remember fondly. What came out that year? Off the top of the head, not much comes up. A quick search gives us The Unborn, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and Drag Me to Hell. Depending on who you ask, these range from ok movies to Drag Me to Hell, but not exactly memorable overall. Something happened at the end of the 2000s and horror didn’t give us much to work with for some reason. If we dig, we get better titles like The Collector, Laid to Rest, and Paranormal Activity, but their box office ranged from amazing in the case of Paranormal Activity to almost nonexistent for the others, so it was completely hit or miss, like studios didn’t know what to push and what to keep for the home video market. Another movie that had a lot of potential...

I don’t know of many Christmas horror adaptations. Sure, I could probably look at the history of Krampus and piece something together but other than that I’m hard pressed so let me know in the comments what I could cover next holiday season. Winter in general has all sorts of movies and stories that they are based off of. The very first episode of this show was all about The Thing and its source material Who Goes There and now in the middle of winter, at least in Colorado, I think it’s time to look at one of the better vampire properties of the 2000s and a great limited series comic. 30 Days of Night was originally pitched as a movie but when it was turned down, the comic came out and put the author’s name on the map. As is the nature of Hollywood, it...

Space: the final frontier. But instead of seeking out new life and new civilizations, the protagonists in these films are often trying to escape them. The vast, cold void of space is the perfect setting for horror. The isolation, the unknown, the realization that in space, no one can hear you scream. From derelict spaceships to alien planets, the cosmos offers a backdrop where our deepest fears can manifest far from the safety of Earth.
So, buckle up, space cadets, as we journey through the darkest corners of the universe with these ten spine-chilling space horror movies.
Screen Gems 10. Ghost of Mars (2001)
John Carpenter takes us to a Martian colony where miners unwittingly release ancient, malevolent spirits. Oops! As these spirits possess the miners, turning them into murderous zombies, a police officer (played by Natasha Henstridge) and a criminal (Ice Cube), and a whole motley crew must team up to survive.

We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.
The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. This season’s central murder appears to take place at a theater (outside the building) but I think we’ll let it slide.
That’s far from the only worthwhile original in August as Aug. 2 sees the premiere of the third and final season of superb comedy Reservation Dogs. That will be followed by South Korean sci-fi series Moving on Aug. 9, Solar Opposites season 4 on Aug. 14, and A Murder at the End of the World on Aug. 29. Of course,...

Cannibalism has emerged as the genre du jour in horror. With the success of last year’s Fresh and Bones and All as well as the second season of Yellowjackets finally digging into the human flesh, everyone seems to be exploring this taboo topic. From nightmare survival scenarios to narcissistic serial killers, these films follow humans or humanoid monsters who consume human flesh in one way or another. Some butcher and cook the meat, while others eat it from the bone, but all cannibal films offer a window into a world of depravity and a fascinating blend of horror and revulsion. We not only fear being eaten ourselves, but we often find ourselves imagining what the meat would taste like should we dare (or be forced) to take a bite.
Films about cannibals may seem like a rare delicacy, but a closer look reveals that the pickens are not so slim.

If you’re already experiencing The Last of Us withdrawals after the finale, let Screambox fill the post-apocalyptic void in your life with The Island.
Known internationally as Sløborn, the series combines elements of disaster thriller, coming-of-age drama, dystopian sci-fi, and survival horror. The German-Danish co-production was created by filmmaker Christian Alvart, who directed the genre films Pandorum, Case 39, and Antibodies before creating Netflix’s Dogs of Berlin.
It’s never been easy to be a teenager, but it’s particularly difficult for Gen Z, who are doomed to reckon with fears of the future — or lack thereof. As 15-year-old Evelin Kern (Emily Kusche) puts it in The Island‘s opening voice over, “Ever since I can remember, the world has been ending. Species extinction, deforestation, economic crises, environmental pollution, terrorism, and climate change. Happy days. Somewhere there is always the next crisis, the next war, and mankind has...

Screambox is the exclusive home to “The Island” (“Sløborn”), the critically-acclaimed pandemic-fueled series from celebrated filmmaker Christian Alvart, director behind horror favs Antibodies and Pandorum, not to mention Case 39 and Netflix’s “Dogs of Berlin”.
Today, we’ve released Season 2 of the coming-of-age pandemic-set thriller and have all 14 episodes now streaming on Screambox!
“Blurring the line between pandemic fantasy and reality, the series centers around a remote island in the North Sea that falls victim to a merciless and mysterious virus. As authorities rush to contain the disease, a fever of madness sweeps across the island.”
“‘The Island’ [is] a coming-of-age-drama and post-apocalyptic disaster thriller merge into a modern epic,” explains Zdf Enterprises’ Robert Franke, “In a radical, uncompromising manner, the series raises the question of what happens to us modern people when the thin varnish of our civilization collapses. It has all the hallmarks of a top-quality thriller.”

Here they are stalked by the menacing Leatherface and his demented family…a bizarre cannibalistic clan with blood on their hands and a feast on their minds. William Malone, a Master of Horror behind such films as Creature, House on Haunted Hill, and Parasomnia, once took a stab at mixing early internet tech with horror in FeardotCom, which starred Stephen Dorff and was released in theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2002.
The film has been making a bit of a resurgence and maybe even having a renaissance with horror fans newly appreciating the much-maligned techy horror film that followed Dorff as a New York City detective who investigates mysterious deaths occurring 48 hours after users log onto feardotcom.
Now, you can judge for yourself as FeardotCom is streaming exclusively on Screambox today, alongside Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, the 1990 sequel starring Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings) and Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead)!

“Gun on set! Gun on set! Everyone, gun on set!”
It’s April, 2022 and we’re in Mmc Studios in Cologne for the shooting of European conspiracy thriller Operation Napoleon. It’s 5,000 miles and six months distant from the events of Oct. 2021 on the New Mexico set of Rust, when Alec Baldwin, discharged a live round from a revolver used as a prop gun killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. But the warning still chills.
Not that anyone here seems bothered.
Director Óskar Þór Axelsson is too busy setting up what will be the climax of Operation Napoleon: as a team of investigators prepare to board an old German World War II plane that has recently emerged from one of Iceland’s largest glaciers. The plane is at the center of the film, and the best-selling novel it’s based on, by Icelandic writer Arnaldur Indriðason.

As we look out into the great black emptiness of space, we are reminded of the question posed by the Italian physicist, Enrico Fermi- “Where is everybody?” Is life as we understand it a freak chemical fluke, never to be repeated in all of the great cold infinity above us? Or is it in fact an inevitable outcome of a relatively common set of circumstances, resulting in a universe teeming with life and civilisations, and if so, will we ever get to meet them?
And if and when we do encounter life that evolved under another sun, with intelligence different, yet equal to our own, how do we kill it?
Yes, some films tell us that when we encounter new life and civilizations they’ll heal our wounds with magic glowing fingers, teach us that nuclear war is bad, and misunderstand our local customs in a delightful and heartwarming way.

Some of you have probably played MgnmScrptmDvs’ survival horror roguelike Quasimorphosis: Exordium, which is currently free-to-play on Steam. Well, there’s some good news for fans of the game, as MgnmScrptmDvs have partnered with publisher HypeTrain Digital to give us a more fully-developed version of their game.
Quasimorphosis: Exordium is described as a mix of Event Horizon, Alien, Pandorum, Xtro, with a bit of Clive Barker thrown in. With space itself having become privatized, corporations have seized control of the Solar System. Players take on the role of a Pmc (Private Military Company) operator amidst a “great tragedy” onboard the Frantseva-7 station. That tragedy just so happens to involve demons that have arrived in our world.
Unlike Exordium, Quasimorphosis will see players travel throughout the Solar system, discovering planetary bases, secret labs, spaceship wreckage and more. In doing so, you’ll be able to reap the rewards of technology. As...

David Hasselhoff is heading to Germany to star in a comedy spy series produced by Christian Alvart’s Berlin-based Syrreal Entertainment in what will be the first project from the company’s new international first-look deal with CBS Studios.
A straight-to-series order for Mediengruppe Rtl’s SVOD platform TVNow, “Ze Network” sees Hasselhoff playing himself as he travels to Germany to headline a stage production in what he believes is a major theater in East Berlin, only to discover it’s actually a small venue located “east of Berlin” — in the town of Görlitz. Once there, the Hoff is plunged into the center of an international conspiracy of former Cold War assassins, while around him the fabric of reality seems to break down.
German actor Henry Hübchen likewise plays himself, co-starring with Hasselhoff in the play. This version of Hübchen, however, has a more shadowy East German past than his...

Hopefully March will bring respite from crippling snow storms and frigid temperatures for much of the globe. And if it doesn’t? Well, Hulu’s got some new streaming options at least!
Hulu’s list of new releases for March 2021 are relatively slight on Hulu originals. Thankfully, one beloved original of note is coming back this month. Solar Opposites will premiere all episodes of its second season on March 26. This sci-fi animated comedy from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland is a breath of fresh alien air.

Cut Off is one of the latest thrillers from director Christian Alvart (Pandorum). Shot in Germany, this dark yarn is based on novelists: Sebastian Fitzek and Michael Tsokos' work. To be released in the U.S. this July, the film's story follows a coroner and a strange mystery. Paul finds an even stranger clue, which leads to the location of his kidnapped daughter. But, each clue leads to another character and another twist. Cut Off stars: Moritz Bleibtreu (Run Lola Run), Jasna Fritzi Bauer (Dogs of Berlin) and Fahri Yardim. A U.S. trailer and poster are hosted here. The trailer shows how other characters are connected to a serial killer, through no choice of their own. All of the characters continue to find clues as a trail of bread crumbs leads to a final confrontation. Dark Sky Films will show Cut Off on Digital and DVD this July 3rd.

Tagline: "Justice is Automated. Your Fate is Secure." Previously titled Somnio, Infinity Chamber has just released on Netflix, in Canada (Jan. 1st). The film stars Christopher Soren Kelly and Cassandra Clark. Infinity Chamber is set in a sci-fi world, in which a man is trapped in an automated prison. He must outsmart the artificial intelligence if he wants to be free, again. Positively reviewed here: Infinity Chamber Review (as Somnio), a look at the film's Netflix debut is available now. Director Travis Milloy (Pandorum, 2009) has talked about Infinity Chamber, in a number of interviews. He says of the film's story: "It’s the story of one man thrown into an automated prison to be interrogated and kept alive by machines. Suspecting the world may have come to an end, he searches for escape back to a world that may already be gone (ThatMomentIn)." A sci-fi thriller, Infinity Chamber offers a few surprises,...

Tagline: "Justice is Automated. Your Fate is Secure." Travis Milloy's (Pandorum, 2009) Somnio was recently renamed to Infinity Chamber. This sci-fi thriller was completed in 2016 and shown in London. This year, the film will have theatrical showings in Los Angeles, this September. As well, XLRator Media is getting set to show the film through Video-on-demand, in September, also. This title deals with a prisoner. Frank's (Christopher Soren Kelly) only interactions are with an automated security camera. The days turn into weeks as Frank struggles to find any way out of his confinement. Now, a trailer is available for Infinity Chamber! Viewers might notice that 28Dla gets a mention, in the clip. This film was reviewed here, as Somnio: An Infinity Chamber Review (as Somnio) on 28Dla. Other early reviewers are also mentioned. Meanwhile, the trailer shows some of Frank's memories. It’s been decades since a new world order changed Earth forever, an alien invasion by creatures known as the Nonesuch forcing humanity underground. The old guard who survived remembers the war that drove them subterranean, memories of life on the surface and the beasts that present-day generations hope to never encounter. If any of them do want to risk their lives for a glimpse of the sun they’ve only heard about through stories, though, they can enlist in the military and become a soldier tasked with a one hundred day mission meant to find stragglers and point them towards sanctuary: Exilium. Battles still rage, but humanity has all but resigned itself to its defeat. Now it’s a matter of staying alive to save those who were left behind.

This title has been scheduled, by distributor XLRator Media, for a September release. The film is character focused. And, Infinity Chamber involves themes of surveillance and government intrusion. A review for this title was posted here: An Infinity Chamber Review on 28Dla (as Somnio). Now, the film's official release artwork is hosted here. The graphic shows central character Frank, played by Christopher Soren Kelly. He is thought to be a rebel and imprisoned in an underground facility. His only interaction is with the camera, shown in the film poster and another off-screen character. Reality is altered as Frank's memory is probed for sedition. The setting is austere, much like the movie poster. Finally, this poster captures the imprisoning nature of Infinity Chamber. Infinity Chamber is a blend of horror and sci-fi.

Infinity Chamber (formerly "Somnio", a film You helped fund) is the feature directorial debut from Travis Milloy, writer of Pandorum , who has turned in a mind-bending thriller that will have you guessing until the end (yes, I had the chance to screen the film last year and loved it).
XLrator media have picked the film up for distribution and will bring it to U.S. cinemas on September 15, 2017 and available on iTunes and VOD on September 26, 2017.

*an online screener of this film was provided by producer Laurie Sheldon. Director/writer: Travis Milloy. Cast: Christopher Soren Kelly and Cassandra Clark. The Latin word Somnio can be defined as looking into a dream. And, much of Travis Milloy's (Pandorum) first feature, Somnio, is somewhat like that of a daydream, but more of a nightmare. One protagonist is forced to relive a sequence of events, over and over again. Smallish in nature, this film is also a bit of mystery. Is the central character, Frank (Christopher Soren Kelly), guilty of governmental transgressions? Or, has he been wrongly imprisoned? Milloy's script will keep you guessing until the end as themes of surveillance and the over-reliance on tech' weave their way into the narrative. Somnio is a decent indie entry into the science fiction and mystery genres. There are a number of differences between indie titles and major productions. Major...

How big a star is Til Schweiger in his native Germany? Well, how's this for an indicator: After appearing in just four episodes of long running German cop show Tatort - a series that has been more or less in continuous production since 1970 - the Inglorious Basterds support player has gone and landed himself a spinoff movie of his own. To put it in context that'd be like taking a four episode character from Law And Order and giving them their own film. Titled Tschiller: Off Duty in Germany - and apparently Nick: Off Duty everywhere else, because that title is going to inspire people to seek it out - Antibodies and Pandorum director Christian Alvart directs.Tough Hamburg cop Nick Tschiller lost his wife...

The film sounds extremely intriguing and looks great on the production side. Milloy has a ton of experience as a writer, so I can only imagine the story is a lean and tight one. Take a gander at the synopsis and watch the video and if you like what you see, hey, toss it some love dollars.

Nicolas Cage is set to re-team with his "Leaving Las Vegas”" director Mike Figgis on thriller "Exit 147" at Umedia. Shooting begins in January.
Travis Milloy ("Pandorum") penned the script in which Cage will star as a cop with a warped sense of justice. He arrests an abusive partner of a woman and all three become embroiled in a series of sadistic mind games.
Cage has also joined the cast of Paul Schrader's contemporary crime thriller "Dog Eat Dog" at Arclight Films. Schrader and Matt Wilder penned the script while Mark Earl Burman and David Hillary will produce.
An adaptation of Eddie Bunker's award-winning book, the story follows a trio of Los Angeles based ex-cons hired for a kidnapping. When the botched abduction goes awry, the cons find themselves on the run.

It's hard to remember a time when Nicolas Cage was a viable, award contending actor, and not just a guy who appeared in movies that serve as a career punchline. But indeed, Cage does have an Oscar on his shelf, and it's thanks to Mike Figgis, who directed him in "Leaving Las Vegas." Now the pair are reuniting for a new movie, and one that was previously attached to Taylor Kitsch and Julian Jarrold (“Great Expectations,” “Brideshead Revisited”). Penned by Travis Milloy ("Pandorum"), "Exit 147" will find Cage playing a cop who gets involved in some mind games with a woman escaping the abusive husband he has arrested. Figgis says this movie will have "edgy humour" and that it's an ensemble piece with a handful of narrative threads. Mike Figgis has tapped Nicolas Cage to star in his thriller "Exit 147," THR reports. Written by Travis Milloy ("Pandorum"), the darkly humorous film follows Cage as a corrupt policeman who arrests a woman's abusive partner, only to become entangled in a series of sick mind games. The film will weave various story strands with multiple characters. "This is the kind of story that turns up once in a blue moon," Higgis told THR of this "dream project for a small ensemble." Figgis hasn't had a film hit quite as hard since his "Leaving Las Vegas," a deeply depressing story of a failed screenwriter (Cage, unhinged and sympathetic, won the Oscar that year) who meets a heart-of-gold prostitute (Elisabeth Shue, also nominated that year) on his way to rock bottom. Cage will soon be seen in Oliver Stone's Edward Snowden biopic opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt. “Exit 147″ is produced by Lenny Beckerman of Uber Content,...

HBO is casting a pretty wide net when it comes to filling roles in its upcoming adaptation of "Westworld," as evidenced by this latest word that X-Men franchise star James Marsden plus seven other notable actors have just signed on.
Per THR's The Live Feed, Marsden will play Teddy Flood, a mysterious new arrival to a small frontier town. He quickly proves both his charm - and his talent with a revolver. His pursuit of a local beauty launches him on a dark journey.
Inspired by Michael Crichton's 1973 film of the same name, the project, which hails from Jj Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, Jerry Weintraub Productions, and Kilter Films, is billed as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin."

After movies like V/H/S and The ABCs of Death, I’m all for horror anthologies abiding by a particular theme. There’s something inherently fun about such a cornucopia of treats, as different directors populate one single film with so many distinctive styles and traits – as long as the segments set the stage for such fun. I’ll always give a horror anthology a try, from Chillerama to The Theatre Bizarre, which is why I’m happy to say we’ve got an exciting anthology coming our way with Fear Paris.
