Michael Keaton takes on another hitman role in his new directorial venture, Knox Goes Away. Keaton played a hitman in his directorial debut, The Merry Gentleman, in 2008. The Batman actor revealed that he wouldn’t have taken on the script by Gregory Poirier if he thought the film would not hold up. For Keaton, the film was like a game of Jenga, where every piece had to work for the movie to work.

Knox Goes Away also stars Al Pacino, James Marsden, Marcia Gay Harden, Suzy Nakamura, and John Hoogenakker among others. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2023.

Michael Keaton’s second film as director, Knox Goes Away, is heading to cinemas in 2024. More details here.
He’s been having fun of late in front of the camera, not least his cameo in this year’s The Flash, where he reprised the role of Batman. But Michael Keaton has also taken the opportunity to return to directing.
He first scratched the itch in 2008 with The Merry Gentleman. Now though, he’s wrapped filming on his latest film as director, which goes by the name of Knox Goes Away.
Keaton takes on the role of John Knox in the film, as well as stepping behind the camera. He’s attracted a good cast too, with Al Pacino, James Marsden and Marcia Gay Harden amongst the ensemble. The script has been penned by Gregory Poirier, who previously turned his hand to the likes of National Treasure: Book Of Secrets and...

Arnold Schwarzenegger may have set the standard of an action-tough guy making an unlikely family comedy that features him taking care of children. The comedic dynamic of said concept has so much potential that many have tried their hand at it, including Vin Diesel in The Pacifier, Dwayne Johnson in The Game Plan, Jackie Chan in The Spy Next Door and Dave Bautista in My Spy. Mark Wahlberg is throwing his hat in the ring for AppleTV+’s The Family Plan, which just released its first trailer. The family film os set to release on December 15.
According to People, Wahlberg plays “a suburban dad and car salesman named Dan Morgan — whose secret past as an elite government assassin comes back to haunt him.” The synopsis continues, “When enemies from his past track him down, Dan packs his unsuspecting wife (Michelle Monaghan), angsty teen daughter, pro-gamer teen son and adorable 10-month-old...

The backbreaking work that stunt performers have put into some of our favorite action scenes is finally getting more attention and appreciation, largely due to shows like "Daredevil" and franchises like "John Wick" that have raised the bar to an entirely new level. The ingenuity of Australian stunt work and the graceful choreography of Hong Kong cinema have found their way into American action films, and audiences are loving it. There are countless stunt performers who are contributing to the new school action we're witnessing, but if the Oscars ever do eventually give out a Best Stunt award, stunt performer Chris Brewster should definitely be on the short list.
Brewster was the fight coordinator for "Black Adam" and has worked in a variety of roles in massive action properties like "Captain America: Civil War," "Loki," "Black Panther," "Guardians of the Galaxy," and "Django Unchained," just to name a few. He...

The concept of a hard man ending up having to take care of a child that changes him completely is not exactly unusual in cinema, with the recipe having produced a number of truly fun films with “Kindergarten Cop” and Jackie Chan’s “The Spy Next Door” being some of the first that come to mind. Lee Chang-won and Kwon Sung-mo present a title in the particular style, which takes, though, a more dramatic path, since the child in this case is a blind-deaf one.

Michael Keaton is preparing to head back behind the camera for just the second time in his career and direct in “Knox Goes Away,” a noir thriller in which he’ll also star.
Gregory Poirier wrote the original film that will reunite Keaton with “Spotlight” producer Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta. The film is launching at the Cannes Film Market later this month, with filming expected to begin in late August in Los Angeles.
“Knox Goes Away” is the story of a contract killer who is diagnosed with a fast-moving form of dementia and is presented with the opportunity to redeem himself by saving the life of his estranged adult son. But to do so he must race against the police closing in on him as well as the ticking clock of his own rapidly deteriorating mind.
ICM Partners and Verve Ventures are co-representing domestic rights, while FilmNation Entertainment is representing the international sales rights.

If you’re looking for new movies and TV shows to watch on Amazon Prime Video in April, you’ve come to the right place. This month doesn’t bring a ton in terms of new Prime Video originals, but there are a few noteworthy titles. “Outer Range,” premiering April 15, is a new series that’s essentially “Yellowstone” but sci-fi. Josh Brolin plays a rancher fighting for his land in Wyoming who encounters a supernatural twist.
There’s also “A Very British Scandal,” which stars Claire Foy and Paul Bettany and focuses on the divorce of the Duke and Dutchess of Argyll, and the second season of the animated series “Undone” on April 29.
In terms of Prime Video movies, Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton star in the thriller ”All the Old Knives” which is streaming on April 8, and noteworthy library titles being added in April include “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,...

Good news for all you Brolin-heads! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by one very intriguing TV project starring Thanos himself.
The Josh Brolin-starring Outer Range premieres April 15 and looks like it could be a wild ride. The synopsis is terse and reads “A rancher fighting for his land and family stumbles upon an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness, forcing a confrontation with the Unknown in ways both intimate and cosmic in the untamable American West.” That, combined with an enigmatic first trailer, has our interest piqued.
Also on the TV side of things this month is season 2 of the beautifully rotoscoped series Undone on April 29. Rosa Salazar returns as Alma, a woman who may have become unstuck in time to help save her scientist father’s life. Before that, the British TV series The Outlaws makes its debut...

Though Marvel has decided to consolidate all of its cinematic universe offerings onto Disney+, some outliers still live on for other streaming services. In May 2021, Hulu is set to premiere the latest non-canon Marvel series.
The animated comedy Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is set to premiere on May 21 and stars Patton Oswalt as the titular Marvel villain. Oswalt’s Modok is every bit the devious floating head that he’s depicted as in the comics. He’s also your every day family man and the show will take on the format of a workplace sitcom. Sounds kinda fun! It’s no wonder that M.O.D.O.K. is the last Hulu Marvel show standing.
In non-Marvel offerings this month, Shrill will debut its third and final season on May 7. This comedy based on Lindy West’s memoir and starring SNL‘s Aidy Bryant has been a consistently bright presence on the streaming scene since...

It still might be a little while before we’re able to go back to the movies again. Thankfully, with its list of new releases for February 2021, Amazon Prime is bringing the theater home. The movies are the real appeal this month.
Amazon’s offerings are highlighted by two original films of note. The first is Bliss, which premieres on Feb. 5. This will star Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek as a couple experiencing some intimacy issues. Presumably this is all just a tune up for when Wilson dons a mustache in Disney+’s Loki later in May. The other film is the sci-fi rom-com The Map of Tiny Perfect Things on Feb. 12.
Other library movies include Antz, Moulin Rouge, The Prestige, The Village, and Dazed and Confused, all of which arrive on Feb. 1. Sonic the Hedgehog is set to arrive later on Feb. 18.
Amazon is premiering only one new original series this month.

All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.
For starters, Hulu is premiering one of its major 2020 reboots this month as Animaniacs arrives on Nov. 20. Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and the rest of the Warner gang are set to return for this long-awaited revival of the animated classic. That’s about it as far as original series go but Hulu is also premiering original movies Greta, about climate activist Greta Thunberg on Nov. 13; and Run, a horror film starring Sarah Paulson, on Nov. 20.
Still, despite all the Animaniacs, Gretas, and Sarah Paulsons, the biggest hits this month might just be on the library content side of things. November 1 sees the arrival of some major TV properties. For starters, racy British...

The streaming service will debut its original series “High Fidelity,” a gender-swapped reimagining of Nick Hornby’s novel of the same name. Previously, the book was adapted into a 2000 movie from Stephen Frears starring John Cusack. Highlights include the series premiere of Zoë Kravitz’s “High Fidelity” reboot, coming on Valentine’s Day, in which she stars as a record store owner in a gentrified Brooklyn neighborhood, revisiting past relationships through music and trying to get over her one true love. Her character was played by John Cusack in the 2000 film, and both are based on Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel of the same name.
There is also a new episode of “Into the Dark” titled “My Valentine,” which will be released on Feb. 7, in which a pop singer’s ex-boyfriend and manager steals her songs and gives them to his new protégé.

From Arnold Schwarzenegger to Dwayne Johnson, macho actors who have wanted to take a break from intense action movies have frequently turned to family-friendly comedies that also allows them to reach a more mainstream audience. But starring with a child co-star a third your age and size means you’ll have to wear a tutu or dance like a doofus, maybe fall in something slimy or gross. Wrestler turned action star John Cena is the latest to make this pivot with “Playing With Fire,” opening this weekend. Here are some other examples of this genre of tough guys babysitting kids.
“Kindergarten Cop” (1990) – Arnold Schwarzenegger
“Kindergarten Cop” was not the first (or the last) goofy comedy Arnold Schwarzenegger would make, but only in this one does he berate at a classroom full of toddlers, play with a ferret and teach kids the basics about human anatomy. I would also argue that...

If you’re a rising action star, it’s a rule that at some point you have to do a family comedy as a hardened spy, cop or tough guy forced to look after a little kid. Arnold Schwarzenegger had his turn with “Kindergarten Cop,” Dwayne Johnson had his “Tooth Fairy,” and Jackie Chan had “The Spy Next Door.”
Now it’s Dave Bautista’s turn with “My Spy,” and though it’s an old genre trope, the first trailer for this film as released at CinemaCon is unexpectedly cute.
In the Stx Entertainment family comedy directed by Peter Segal, Bautista is a CIA agent who has to prove himself in order to save his job, only to be made by a nine-year-old named Sophie (Chloe Coleman). She cuts a deal with him to help make her tough and teach her spy stuff, like how to walk away without looking...

It's that time again! After saying goodbye to our favorite childhood Disney movies in May, Netflix is getting rid of even more classics next month. Not only are romantic comedies like 50 First Dates and While You Were Sleeping going away, but Marvel's Captain America: Civil War is also leaving this June. It's pretty obvious that the people at Disney are prepping for the release of their very own streaming service in Fall 2019, so it's only a matter of time before Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are taken off the streaming service. In the meantime, we suggest setting aside a weekend to watch the films below before they're gone for good.

MaryAnn’s quick take… As a piece of craft, this is a smack in the face to Hollywood’s bloated blockbusters. As a piece of pulp, it brings a sharp, smart feminist twist to familiar tropes of cinematic paranoia. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m desperate for movies about women; mostly a fan of Soderbergh’s work

Leave it to Steven Soderbergh to take on sexual predators in the form of a pulp thriller that he shot on an iPhone like a genius kid with a new toy. Unsane is a B-movie by a 55-year-old director known showing his A-game for genre filmmaking – but he's still the same renegade who helped kickstart a revolution with 1989's sex, lies & videotapes, won an Oscar for 2000's Traffic, hit box-office paydirt with three Ocean's Eleven romps and then quit movies for four years to do risky TV like The Knick.

April showers might bring May flowers, but what to do during the rainy season? Why, modern movie-lover does when the weather outside is frightful, curl up with some Netflix. (Maybe get some chill in there, if you’re lucky). While not the most romantic of movies, classic crime lovers can enjoy Brian De Palma’s “Scarface,” which lands on the platform next month. After you get your fix of an infinitely quotable and smoldering Al Pacino, you can jump ahead to the equally as disturbing David Fincher classic, “Seven.”
A few tear-jerking Oscar winners also head to Netflix in April, including the Nicole Kidman, Renée Zellweger-starring “Cold Mountain,” and Roberto Benigni’s WWII drama “Life Is Beautiful.” For lighter fare, check out “The Iron Giant,” or both live-action “The Flinstones” movies (for my Rosie O’Donnell die-hards).
Hopefully, that’s enough to keep you busy until May. Check out...

Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's 11, Logan Lucky) is lining up the next film project that he will produce and possibly direct. The film is an action thriller called Planet Kill and it's an original story that comes from Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum) and James Greer (Unsane, The Spy Next Door).
There are no details on what the story for this film will entail, but judging by the title, it sounds like it could turn out to be a fun flick! It's the kind of title you would see for a grindhouse type film and I'm really curious to know what the story will entail. The title is similar to Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse film Planet Terror.
Soderbergh and Greer previously worked together on the upcoming psychological horror thriller Unsane, which was shot entirely on an iPhone. That movie looks great, and you can watch the trailer for it here.

Jackie Chan is putting his funnyman act aside for his latest role as Quan Ngoc Minh in the action thriller The Foreigner, directed by Casino Royale's Martin Campbell. In the film, Chan's character is seeking to avenge the murder of his daughter, who died in a London Ira bombing. The single father ruthlessly pursues the bombers and battles ex-member of the Ira and Irish Deputy Minister Liam Hennessy, played by 007's Pierce Brosnan, whom he believes can identify the terrorists.

2010’s In my previous article there was a comment regarding a film that I had left out. I apologise in advance if there are any films that I miss out. This may be due to me simply forgetting or just not seeing a particular film. After the Forbidden Kingdom, Jackie Chan would return to Hong Kong to work on Director Derek Yee’s Shinjiku Incident (2009). A total change of pace for Chan, with a purely dramatic role, it seemed it was a step in the right direction for the ageing action star. Unfortunately Chan’s next leading role would be in the family movie The Spy Next Door (2010), which is not only Chan’s poorest American made film, but one of the poorest of his career....

February is a month for love and Hulu knows exactly what to do with it. For its February 2020 new releases, Hulu is introducing an original series fit for Valentine's Day. High Fidelity premieres on Valentine's Day and this modern adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel and Stephen Frears film will bring some love and music to the mid-February doldrums.
Hulu's only $5.99/month now, grab the deal here!
Another original arriving in February is Utopia Falls (also premiering on February 14), which looks to be teenage-oriented series combining Harry Potter, The Expanse, and music. That sound like something that might interest you?
February 1 sees the arrival of plenty of films to enjoy like 300, When Harry Met Sally, The Fugitive, and 28 Days Later. That's about as diverse an array of genre films as you'll get.

I feel as though it’s become an ugly thing to say, but I’m a Jackie Chan fan. And while I can see why people might feel like the elder statesman of Hong Kong action cinema has little to offer the world anymore (they might have actually seen him team up with Billy Ray Cyrus for The Spy Next Door), the good - and great - truly outweighs the bad.
Go watch Miracles (aka Mister Canton and Lady Rose), and tell me it isn’t one of the most perfect films you’ve ever seen. Tell me that Drunken Master 2’s martial arts aren’t the greatest demonstration of physical prowess you’ve seen from any one man ever.

Just when you thought the concept of direct-to-dvd sequels had been all but replaced by remakes and reboots, along comes Warner Home Video to remind us that Dtv flicks are still alive and well... and equally as frustrating. Apparently someone out there thought it was a good idea to create a sequel to the timeless holiday classic A Christmas Story without any of the original cast or creative team (admittedly, director Bob Clark and writer Jean Shepherd are no longer with us). Thirty years have passed since the original film was released but somehow Ralphie is only a teenager in this sequel, which certainly makes for some chronological confusion (I assume it is set in the 1940s?). Either way, Ralphie now has his sights set on a new toy for Christmas: a 1938 Hupmobile Skyline Convertible, which sounds slightly safer than a Red Ryder Bb Gun. Braeden Lemasters (Men of a Certain Age) will play Ralphie,...

Jackie Chan is developing a new English-language action comedy, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter . Newcomer Jay Longino has been brought aboard to provide the screenplay, based on an idea of Chan's. Set to be produced in China, the comedy will feature Chan as a detective hired to find an American gambler who owes a substantial amount of money to a Macau-based casino. Though Chan has appeared recently in films like The Karate Kid and as a voice in both Kung Fu Panda films, his last English language comedy was The Spy Next Door in 2010, which failed to find a significant audience.
