"This Is Where We Live" was commissioned by book publisher 4th Estate to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
The animation technique used in the film is a combination of traditional 2D hand-drawn animation, paper cutouts and stop motion. The rigging for the characters is an extension of the technique animation director Jordan Wood used on Xhale (2003).
A Lego statue can be seen in the middle of the market place; this is a reference to The Black Ghosts' music video "Some Way Through This", which was produced in 2007 by the same creative team.
Over 1000 books from the 4th Estate back catalogue were used in the creation of the film.
The most complex, and time consuming, shot of the film was the market place scene; it took 19 hours of continuous shooting to complete.
