The DHC-6 Twin Otter float plane in the series is a Canadian registered seaplane.
Isla isn't the first mermaid to fall in love with a human on the island; though she appears to be the first gay one. Years prior, a man fell in love with a mermaid and accepted becoming a merman to be with her.
Elena Roarke considers this a failure, having "lost" a guest.
