While he did earn a Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role Oscar nomination last year for “Aftersun,” actor Paul Mescal did miss out on a follow-up nod for his critically acclaimed performance in 2023′ “All Of Us Strangers.” And if Oscars overlooked him for that role, the BAFTA, British Independent Film Awards, and London Critics Circle Film Awards did not.

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is nearly here, and in case you weren’t excited already, this brand-new trailer should do the trick. Watch it above, wall crawlers.
As the team behind 2018’s Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” have promised, this is going to be even crazier than that movie, featuring all new Spider-people and even more intricately imagined worlds. One of the coolest new aspects of this movie is the villain, The Spot (voiced by Jason Schwartzman), a character whose body is covered in inter-dimensional portals, which could seem very harmful (or potentially helpful) to characters traversing the vast and unique spider-verse.
Characters returning from the original film include Miles Morales (voiced again by Shameik Moore), Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), with new characters like the Vulture (Jorma Taccone) and Gwen Stacy’s dad George Stacy (Shea Whigham). Plus, we are sure that we can expect plenty of surprises,...

Sleep Token have announced a new album, titled Take Me Back to Eden. In advance of the album’s May 19th release, the UK experimental metal act has shared the new single and video “Vore.”
The mysterious band has amassed a viral following via a string of recent singles. The track “The Summoning” alone has more than 16 million global streams, thanks in part to a co-sign by pop superstar Demi Lovato, who shared a Spotify link to the song with her 140-plus million Instagram followers.
Often tagged as “alternative metal,” Sleep Token transcend that somewhat generic labeling, combining djent, Deftones-y melodic metal, and progressive pop. The new single “Vore” is a strong example of this multi-faceted sound.
Much of Sleep Token’s allure comes from their reclusiveness. “Sleep Token notoriously do not speak to the press,” reads the press release for Take Me Back to Eden. And the cloaked central...

Exclusive: Arte France has ordered a feature doc about the role of Jewish ghettos during the Holocaust.
Ghettoes of the Shoah (La Shoah des Ghettos) will run in the cultural network’s prime-time history slot. Pernel Media is attached to make the 90-minute doc with the support of the Foundation for the Memory of the Shoah. Barbara Necek is directing.
More than 1,000 ghettos were established in Central and Eastern Europe by the Nazis at the beginning of the Second World War between 1939 and 1941. Poland alone had more than 300 of them. At least half of Europe’s Jews lived in ghettos during the war and over 800,000 died while living in them.
The doc will put a new historical perspective on the events through access to never-released personal archives, films, letters and photographs.
Pernel is also producing a 60-minute version of the film for the international market.

From his early days fronting the cult group Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13 to his breakout run in the Murderdolls alongside late Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison to his nearly 20-year run fronting his eponymous band that’s still going strong, Wednesday 13 embraces the macabre and spooky all year long – but, as is the case for every horror fan, October is extra special.
The horror rocker is currently celebrating the release of his ninth solo album, Horrifier, out now on Napalm Records, and playing a career-spanning setlist on the 20 Years of Fear tour across the United States. Despite battling a sinus infection, Wednesday 13 spoke to me about the new album and, of course, horror movies.
After working with outside producers on the last two records, Wednesday went back to self-producing on Horrifier, largely out of necessity due to the pandemic. The singer and his bandmates – guitarists Roman Surman and Jack Tankersley,...

In the sixth episode of “Hacks’” excellent second season, Deborah (Jean Smart) gets hit on at the bar by a man, Jason, who’s young enough to “be my son.” She flippantly tries to dismiss him, thinking he’s just talking to her because she’s famous, until he asks her what she does. “You really don’t know?” she asks, incredulous. “No,” he says, shaking his head. “Should I?” “No,” she replies with a glint in her eye. Jason might not know who Deborah Vance is, but Emmy voters should definitely know and nominate the man who plays him: Devon Sawa.
If you’re from a certain generation (read: old millennials), chances are you immediately clocked Sawa, who set many hearts aflutter in the ’90s as human Casper in 1995’s “Casper” opposite Christina Ricci before sharing another kiss with her in “Now and Then” later that year, and as...
