Hollywood's fascination with science fiction has produced some of the greatest thrills in movie history. "Star Wars," "Blade Runner," "The Matrix," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," and "The Day the Earth Stood Still" are but a handful of films that rank high amongst genre enthusiasts for their audacious ideas, innovative visuals, originality, colorful characters, and timeless appeal. Crafting these timeless masterpieces requires significant effort and unwavering commitment, and should not be underestimated. Many production stories showcase the extent to which producers and directors are willing to go to realize their vision -- even if it comes at the cost of the actors' well-being.

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

After a brief battle with cancer, Pedro passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Thank you for your visits, cards, and support during this difficult time for Pedro and our family.

Jamie Campbell Bower is a man of many talents, but he's not particularly good at telling jokes. Since "Stranger Things" season 4 was released on Netflix, Jamie Campbell Bower has been wildly popular for his role as Vecna, the towering, humanoid-looking villain of the sci-fi series. Fresh off Game of Thrones, Lena Headey is set to star in Rita, a subversive Showtime comedy pilot.

Back in June, Showtime announced its pilot order for Rita, an adaptation of the 2012-2017 Danish series of the same name, in which Lena Headey will star as its title character, who’s described as “a headstrong, unconventional teacher and single mother who takes on every kind of authority – as well as her family – in a messy and unfiltered way.” Danish actress Mille Dinesen played the role in the original series.
In the latest news on Rita, Lisa Cholodenko...

Lily Collins has been cast in the title role of the upcoming Paramount Network series “Emily in Paris” from creator Darren Star, Variety has learned.
Collins will also produce the half-hour dramedy, which centers on Emily, a driven twenty-something from the Midwest who moves to Paris for an unexpected job opportunity. Tasked with bringing an American point of view to a venerable French marketing firm, cultures clash as she adjusts to the challenges of life in a foreign city, while juggling her career, new friendships and love life.
“To be not only starring in a TV show created by Darren but also producing it with him and the Paramount Network is a real ‘pinch me’ moment,” said Collins. “All of Darren’s shows have deeply defined, greatly impacted, and undeniably helped me navigate my journey into womanhood. I couldn’t imagine a more inspiring city to be our ‘Emily in Paris’ home than Paris.

Michael Lynne, the former co-chairman of New Line Cinema who played a key role in shepherding “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, has died at his New York home. He was 77.
Lynne’s death was confirmed Monday by longtime business partner Robert Shaye, who told Variety that Lynne’s family had informed him of Lynne’s passing following a short illness. Lynne and Shaye had been associates for nearly four decades with Shaye focusing on the creative components while Lynne brought expertise on the financial side.
“He was a once-in-a-lifetime partner and the perfect counterpoint to what I was,” Shaye said. “It was one of the great professional associations. Even though we went to law school together, he had the background and finesse that I never developed so we balanced each other out. I will miss him greatly.”
Shaye also noted that Lynne’s son Jonathan Lynne had died a few weeks ago.

Michael Lynne, a Hollywood producer who helped transform New Line Cinema into a powerhouse and served as an executive producer on Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, has died. He was 77.
Lynne’s passing Sunday night was confirmed by a spokesperson at Unique Features in the office of his longtime partner Bob Shaye.
“He was understanding, incisive, warm, funny, and creative,” Shaye told TheWrap. “He was a man of integrity, talent, creativity, warmth and humanitarianism that was to my mind unparalleled among the acquaintances that I had, and I will value his friendship forever.”

Lynne’s passing came as somewhat of a surprise to Shaye, who said that Lynne was expected to be heading back from the hospital earlier last week, but “things went from not good to worse.” He added that a funeral will be held for Lynne on Thursday.

Signature Entertainment has released a clip for World War II drama ‘The 12th Man’. Based on the legendary true story of Jan Baalsrud, the film tells one of the wildest and most unfathomable survival stories of World War II.
Set in Norway, 1943 – north of the Arctic Circle. Twelve Norwegian resistance fighters have crossed the North Sea to fight the Nazis who have occupied their homeland. But when they drop anchor in a desolate fjord, they are betrayed by a countryman and attacked by a German minesweeper. Eleven of the men are captured, tortured and killed. Only the twelfth escapes…
The twelfth man Jan Baalsrud (Thomas Gullestad) quickly flees into the merciless Norwegian winter with a bleeding gunshot wound and an SS Officer (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) hot on his heels. His determination and will to survive will turn him into a symbol for the Norwegian resistance – a symbol people are willing to die for.

Even as a prequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald won't shy away from flashbacks, because that's just how Wizarding World lore rolls. In his memories and in front of the Mirror of Erised, Albus Dumbledore reveals a complicated, as well as frustratingly vague, relationship with the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in his younger days. As evil as he may become, teenage Grindelwald is quite the looker. And after you get over his total suaveness, you may recognize him if you followed the original Harry Potter movie series.
Yup, Jamie Campbell Bower is, arguably, one of the many Easter eggs for Harry Potter fans. He portrayed Grindelwald not only in the latest prequel movie, but also way back in the days of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. In the penultimate movie, Harry has a vision about a thief stealing the Elder Wand, and it's none other than Grindelwald. While Bower's role is relatively small,...

It may seem like all cinemas have to offer at the moment are glossy CGI superheroes and audience-dividing Star Wars adventures but look between the frames and you’ll see something that’s currently going unnoticed – and for good reason. It’s the waning dregs of the franchises that audiences forgot. More specifically, the would-be young adult franchises. You know the type – the ones that were adapted from popular young adult novels and came complete with soundtracks chock full of floppy-haired indie bands – and to everyone’s surprise, they’re not quite dead yet.
It feels like ever since the whirlwind success of series like Twilight and The Hunger Games studios have constantly been on the lookout for the next tween-tale they can spin into Hollywood gold. However the formula for success isn’t always as cut-and-dry as simply finding a colourfully dystopian future and a couple of beautifully moody...

From Middle-earth to Mortal Engines, former Lord of the Rings star Hugo Weaving has inked a deal to climb aboard Peter Jackson’s long-in-development adaptation.
Per Variety, this marks the pair’s first collaboration since orchestrating The Battle of the Five Armies three years ago, when Weaving played the iconic role of Elrond. And though his role in Mortal Engines is yet to be confirmed – sources close to Variety claim he’ll play Valentine, head of the Historians – securing Hugo Weaving’s services is certainly a massive coup for Universal’s wildly ambitious adaptation. Lifted from the pages of Philip Reeves’s four-part steampunk series, we know that the studio has already appointed Christian Rivers at the helm, who will direct a script from Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

As DVD and Blu-ray sales fall, it's no longer certain that films will get a disc release. So what's happening?
Let’s start with a statistic.
In 2013, Hotel Transylvania shifted 1,029,614 copies on Blu-ray disc in the Us alone. A hefty number, yet the animated hit – which has thus far spawned one sequel, with another on the way – was only the 23rd best-selling Blu-ray release of the year in America that year, just trailing titles such as Turbo, Rise Of The Guardians, Django Unchained and Life Of Pi.
2013 was arguably the peak year for Blu-ray sales, with 23 individual titles selling a million copies or more in the Us. The best-selling of all, Despicable Me 2, shifted 4.6m copies alone, and many more overseas. On the DVD format, meanwhile, 45 different films sold a million units in America in 2013, including another 2.7m copies of Hotel Transylvania.

If you love disaster movies, then this first trailer for Geostorm should scratch a particular itch, with massive tornadoes, tsunamis, and loads of destruction. come inside to check it out!
I've long been a sucker for disaster/weather movies. The idea of contending with an unstoppable force (nature) and the havoc it can cause is an interesting one and can make for some exciting set pieces. As such, I can't help but feel excited based off this Geostorm trailer:
Let's be honest here...the story, as with Most disaster films, probably isn't going to be all that great, but that's not why I'm going to end up seeing this film. I'm going for the ridiculous amount of awesome destruction on display. What do you guys think?

Peter Jackson’s latest literary adaptation keeps moving at a steady pace, as Variety reports that his Mortal Engines movie has just cast one of its lead actors. The recent nominations feature five actors and actresses who are less than 30 years of age in the lead and supporting categories across genres. So let’s get to know these contenders, shall we?
Making up the group of youthful thespians at the Golden Globes are Lily Collins (Rules Don’t Apply), Hailee Steinfeld (The Edge of Seventeen), and Emma Stone (La La Land) all in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category — all of whom would be competing in the Best Actress category at the Oscars — as well as Dev Patel (Lion) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nocturnal Animals) in...
