The moral of the story is that the Uttar Pradesh government official are taking huge bribes from the families that are getting compensation for their near and dear one death due to the Kedarnath floods of 2013.

The main lead actor's (Jamuna ) parents are missing after the flood at Kedarnath and after 25 days the government people ask him to take the compensation. Now here the main problem arise that instead of Rs 14 Lakh, he gets 10 Lakhs and is being told that the 4 lakh is given to various department for fast processing. Now after few days he has spent the 10 lakh he got and out of the blue his parents return hail and hearty.

Now the problem arises that their parents are dead in the government as they have a death certificate. Now the government will want to give him 14 lakhs as signed in the document. Also the main officer tell that let his parents be dead as his government post is on the line/he could be fired.

The officer is ready to pay Jamuna extra to keep shut and he almost except the same. But another person who got compensation is angry that even his compensation money is short of what was offered. Jamuna's eyes open up and he wants to fight the government for the bribes that they have taken.

He fights with the government and he wins, the corrupt officer is jailed and Jamuna is slowly and steady making money to pay back the government.

I was excited for this movie as Kunal Khemu chooses good movies. But this movie is really really bad. The kanjoos part hardly lasts 15 minutes and then the stories changes its course to never explore the kanjoos part. Movie is poorly written and jokes don't land as per the intentions. Piyush Mishra is out of act in his interpretation of the role. Others have done well but acting can only save so much. The premise was good but was never explored. Songs are pretty subpar and do not add anything to the plot. The most disappointing bit was such poor direction and editing. Would not recommend this movie to anyone. Complete waste of time.

'Kanjoos Makhichoos' boasts an impressive ensemble cast, but unfortunately, it fails to live up to its potential. Despite the film's title suggesting the miserly nature of the lead character, it does not contribute much to the overall plot. The drama also struggles to find the right balance between subtle humour and over-the-top comedy, resulting in several forced jokes that fall flat. However, Kunal Kemmu's performance is noteworthy and helps the film to some extent. It's sloppy writing is evident, with some of the jokes feeling forced and repetitive. Overall, 'Kanjoos Makhichoos' is a frustrating watch that does not do justice to its talented cast.

Although the setting of the film provides a good backdrop for the primary story, it is evident that the makers of the film paid little attention to the screenplay. The dialogues and situations depicted in the film lack freshness and fail to bring any new elements to the table. Despite having seasoned actors like Shweta Tripathi, Piyush Mishra, and Rajiv Gupta, the film fails to make the most of their talents, except for Rajiv. In the film, they seem like mere props, with Kunal Kemmu being the sole focus of attention.

The film is set in Lucknow and revolves around Jamna Prasad Pandey, who runs a store specializing in selling materials for temple pooja and aarti. He is notorious for his stingy behaviour, causing frustration among his family members. However, unknown to them, Jamna has been secretly saving money to fund his parents' pilgrimage to the chaar dhaam yatra. Tragically, during the yatra, his parents are caught in a severe downpour and are believed to have died. Jamna is sanctioned a compensation of 14 lakhs from the government, but he only receives 10 lakhs in the end, feeling cheated by the corrupt system. Determined to seek justice, Jamna decides to fight back.

In this family-comedy film, Kunal Kemmu stands out with his exceptional performance, appearing in almost every scene of the movie. He adeptly adopts the mannerisms of a person from Uttar Pradesh and showcases his impeccable comic timing. Rajiv Gupta's portrayal of Chaturvedi, a corrupt government official, injects some much-needed moments of sanity into this otherwise stale film. However, it is incomprehensible that a skilled actor like Piyush Mishra has been reduced to a caricature in the movie.

Although the film has its flaws, it still manages to check a few boxes for being a family entertainer with a strong emphasis on family bonding. However, the lackluster screenplay once again lets the film down. The scene where Ganga Pandey and Saraswati Pandey reunite after being separated due to rain is cringe-worthy, and the repetitive joke about a woman suffering from gas problem falls flat. Despite featuring some talented actors, director Vipul Mehta fails to extract good performances from them. 'Kanjoos Makhichoos' tries to straddle the line between being a pure comedy film and a pure family film, but ultimately falls short of both categories, resulting in an average movie.
