Much like “Entourage” did for Hollywood, HBO’s “Ballers” offers viewers a glimpse inside the world of sports, focusing on a group of football players and their families, friends, and handlers. Set in Miami, Dwayne Johnson plays Spencer Strasmore, a retired player who’s reinvented himself as a financial manager, giving “The Rock” plenty of moments to strut around looking super-sleek in very well-tailored suits.

This month’s BAMcinemaFest isn’t just for New York cinephiles, as the annual festival routinely rolls out a slate that includes the year’s best indie offerings, giving many of them a major boost before they roll out theatrical runs. This year is no different, as the Brooklyn-based event will play home to a slew of festival favorites, including a hefty dose of Sundance’s buzziest titles and some big-time SXSW winners and everything in between, most of them bound for a release in a theater (hopefully) near you.

MaryAnn’s quick take… Hard to believe it took 13 years to get a sequel to our screens and still have it show not a hint of Bad Santa’s inspiration or subversion. I’m “biast” (pro): loved the first film
I’m “biast” (con): didn’t see the need for a sequel

Hard to believe that the notorious anti-Christmas classic Bad Santa is 13 years old. Even harder to believe that this sequel — the unimaginatively titled Bad Santa 2 — took so long to get to our screens and yet show not a lick of the first movie’s inspiration or subversion. It took more than a decade to come up with what is little more than a pale imitation of an original that had wrapped itself up very satisfyingly? Why bother if there isn’t something new to add?

Well, it’s going to be dirty, that much is for sure. Here’s one of those films I genuinely thought would never happen, no matter how many times they announced it. The original Bad Santa, directed by Terry Zwigoff, was manhandled so much during post-production and even after release that it’s one of those accidental hits. It wasn’t released by Miramax as much as it was abandoned to its fate. But one of the greatest things about the way films are digested by culture is that home video gives movies a long tail, and people can discover films over time, and word of mouth is still, at the end of the day, the single greatest weapon a film has. Bad Santa was a film that people passed along when they discovered it, and it’s a film that people tended to rewatch repeatedly as they shared it with other people.

In most episodes, Netflix's women-in-prison Orange Is the New Black plays like a series of deftly observed short stories, exposing how the females locked in Litchfield Penitentiary lived on the outside and landed themselves in the clink. And in the recently dropped new season, showrunner Jenji Kohan devotes one of these deep-dive tangents to a formerly minor inmate named Lolly (Lori Petty), a paranoid schizophrenic who catches a fellow inmate in a compromising position and promises to keep quiet. Andy Garcia is the hot new player in town in today’s all-new trailer for Ballers season 2 – and doesn’t Spencer Strasmore know all about it.
That is, of course, Dwayne Johnson, the charismatic and sharp-suited ex-footballer who is poised to return to the sun-kissed streets of Miami in little over a month’s time. But there’s drama afoot, much of which emanates from Garcia’s seasoned sports agent, who looks set to put Johnson and Rob Corrdry in check: “I’ve been doing this for 20 years and what, you guys have been doing this for 20 minutes?” Ouch.
And so, Ballers season 2 looks set to tee up a sporting underdog story, replete with all of the flashy editing, beautiful scenery and hard partying that ensures the spirit of Entourage is still very much alive in HBO’s Johnson-led drama. Get ready for the sparks to fly.

Emily Ratajkowski is apparently not landing the roles she feels she deserves. Ratajkowski, who shot to fame by appearing topless in the controversial “Blurred Lines” music video, has weighed in on the plight of beautiful women such as herself in Hollywood, telling Es magazine that they have trouble landing roles with gravitas. “If you’re a sexy actress it’s hard to get serious roles. You get offered the same thing that they’ve seen you in,” Ratajkowski — who since the “Blurred Lines” video has appeared as the resident eye candy, playing herself, in “Entourage” — said. “People are like sheep and they’re.

A movie based on a young-adult novel about child sex trafficking? Oh dear. But Sold is… Well, it’s not exactly a newsflash that there are children in the world who are sex slaves, nor that there are men in the world who will pay to rape children. Sold is hardly entertaining in the way that we generally mean when we talk about movies. Perhaps the best word to describe this brutal yet sensitively rendered film is enlightening, for putting a human face, if a fictional one, on an issue that rarely gets one.

Dwayne Johnson’s former sports star is up against it in the first trailer for HBO’s Ballers season 2 – and not because he’s mistaken for Vin Diesel.

Yes, there’s a storm brewing over HBO’s record-breaking sports drama, and Johnson and his old confidant Joe (Rob Corddry) are caught smack bang in the middle.
Given that HBO is yet to nail down a concrete premiere date for season 2, the sizzle reel is a mere one minute in length. Given the success of Sisters, it’s easy to see why Tina Fey and Universal are keen on continuing to work together. MGM is looking to reboot its 1980s cult classic "Road House" and has hired Ufc fighter Ronda Rousey (Furious 7, Entourage) to step into the role Patrick Swayze made famous. The studio is currently meeting with writers. Released in 1989, the original film starred Swayze as a bouncer hired to clean up one of the rowdiest, loudest bars in Missouri, The Double Deuce. Swayze's character is put to the test when he needs to protect the town from a corrupt businessman. Production is expected to begin in 2016.

Do we need a "Road House" remake? Maybe not. But did we need "Road House" in the first place? That's a philosophical question we're perhaps not prepared to answer. The point is that Ronda Rousey, the Ufc star and "Entourage" movie actress, is filling Patrick Swayze's boots in a "Road House" remake as a bouncer hired to get a wild Missouri bar called The Double Deuce back on track. Does Rousey have the stuff for a starring role? She certainly has the intimidation factor. To commemorate this weird but intriguing casting, let's pick 10 athletes who actually impressed us on the silver screen. Yes, I left out Oj Simpson. Can't say I'm sorry about that. ...

The Ufc star is in talks to lead MGM's revival, which will see her replace the late Patrick Swayze as the bouncer for notorious dive bar the Double Deuce.
Rousey apparently even sought out the blessing of Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi before beginning negotiations, according to Variety.

Variety reports that the Mma fighter will star in a reboot of the 1989 cult classic "Road House," which originally featured Patrick Swayze as a bouncer hired to clean up a rowdy bar in Missouri. It isn't known if the actress would be considered for the part,...

Last week in a Reddt Ama, a fan asked Ronda Rousey which superhero she’d most like to play. Rousey’s response was pretty clear cut. The former-Olympian wants a pop at Captain Marvel.
Rousey’s a major public figure these days thanks to her remarkable athletic prowess (she’s the current Ufc Women’s Bantamweight Champion), but her acting chops are a little more untested. She had a smallish supporting role in 2014’s ill-fated Expendables 3, before playing herself (very convincingly) in this summer’s equally ignoble Entourage. As a result, many, including myself, are a little dubious concerning Rousey’s thespian credentials going into a prospective Marvel gig. Not that we’d say it to her face.
That hasn’t stopped her fans though, who have been working away on some really cool pieces of art to help bolster Rousey’s chances of landing the coveted role. The...

Ronda Rousey as Ms Marvel is becoming more of a reality with each passing day - well, at least because she's been sharing some of her favourite fan edits of herself as the famous superhero.
Earlier this week, the Ufc star was asked which superhero she would like to play during a Reddit Ama.
Since the reddit Ama I've received so many badass Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel edits! There were so many cool ones I couldn't pick just one to share - here's 1 series of 2 Big thank you to contributing artists: @bosslogix (two on right) and @salman.artworks (left)

Cameos are an interesting phenomenon, as it used to be that you never really knew when they were going to happen. These days, it's easy to find out who's going to play even the most minute part in an upcoming film, especially a film as cameo-intensive as this summer's Entourage. In the case of the HBO big screen adaptation, it was pretty much a free for all as to who made it in . and Armie Hammer can prove it. While doing press with Uproxx in order to promote this weekend's The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Hammer spilled the beans on how he made an appearance in Warner Bros' big screen Entourage venture. If you saw the film and wondered why, out of any actor in Hollywood, they'd cast Hammer to play Emily Ratajkowski's jerk of an ex-boyfriend, it all came down to three things: timing, availability and ...

Ronda Rousey is everywhere at the moment. She’s one of the biggest Mma stars on the planet, is currently caught in a verbal spat with Floyd Mayweather and recently announced plans to star in her own biopic. Busy girl. But through the miracles of Reddit, Rousey’s listed another challenge she’s be keen to undertake; popping her superhero cherry as Captain Marvel.
Rousey expressed an interest in the part during an Ama session with fans. It’s hard to discern what’s intended as a statement of intent rather than off the cuff banter during these things (the printed word is never great for intonation), but with the Captain Marvel film still over three years away, it can’t hurt Rousey to toss her name into the ring.
Rousey’s acting credits are sparse and unremarkable. She had a bit-part in the underwhelming Expendables 3 and popped...

Ronda Rousey will star in a movie based on her recent New York Times best-selling autobiography My Fight/Your Fight, reports Variety. But if it seems a little unorthodox to have the Ufc champion play herself, remember this isn't her first acting gig: She's previously appeared in The Expendables 3, the Entourage movie, and Furious 7 (where she duked it out with Michelle Rodriguez, in full evening-gown attire.) The only question is will the movie last longer than Rowdy Ronda's 34-second knockout of Bethe Correia over the weekend? Or maybe it'll best her record-breaking 14-second Ko back in March. So long as it includes more unapologetic advice about how to live your best feminist life (as seen in the clip below), we'll be happy however long it runs.

You might argue that at 28, Ufc champ and actor Ronda Rousey is young to be writing her autobiography, let alone locking in a deal to star in the film based on the book. But she’s led such an interesting life so far that you can see why Paramount might be keen to buy the rights. The studio has Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Mark Bomback adapting the book My Fight/Your Fight, which Rousey wrote with older sister Maria Burns Ortiz. It takes a hard stare at the many challenges – a tough birth, communication issues when young, struggling to make her way in the brutal and often sexist world of Ultimate Fighting – that she has overcome in her life and career, on her way to combining a dominant run in the Octagon with an embryonic film career. Nothing is yet known about what form the film will take,...

Ufc champion Ronda Rousey, who has been diving into Hollywood with roles in Entourage, Furious 7 and Expendables 3, will see her own life story make its way onto the big screen. Paramount has nabbed the rights to the 28-year-old's autobiography My Fight/Your Fight, and Rousey is attached to star in the biopic. Mark Bomback will write the script for the film, which would follow Rousey's life and career. Rousey is an Olympic medalist in Judo and the reigning Women's Mma Bantamweight Fighter. (On Saturday in Rio, she knocked out challenger Bethe Correia in 34 seconds to defend

Ronda Rousey's overcome a lot to get to where she is! The Ufc Women's Champion recently opened up to Cosmopolitian.com about overcoming her body image issues and feeling better than ever in her own skin. The fighter/actress tells the site that she gained 15 pounds for her feature in the 2015 Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition, because she feels her best with a little bit more meat on her bones. "I felt like I was much too small for a magazine that is supposed to be celebrating the epitome of a woman," Rousey confesses. "At 150 pounds, I feel like I'm at my healthiest and my strongest and my most beautiful." The gorgeous athlete has to maintain a weight of 135 pounds for fighting, but clearly, she looks amazing at any size. The 29-year-old also reveals that she hasn't always had the best relationship with her body. "I grew up as an athlete doing judo,...

Ronda Rousey might have taken home the Best Female Athlete and Best Fighter honors at this year's Espy Awards amid becoming the undefeated Ufc Women's Bantamweight Champion, but that doesn't mean everything has come easy for the 28-year-old. Rousey, who has also snagged roles in Furious 7, The Expendables 3 and the Entourage movie, opened up to Cosmpolitan.com about being comfortable in her own skin and owning every inch of it. The athlete also revealed she gained 15 pounds for her nearly naked feature in the 2015 Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition because she doesn't feel her "most attractive" at 135 pounds, which she maintains for fighting. HBO keeps the bro-centric fantasy-fulfillment train chugging along with the debut of “Ballers,” a show filled with star athletes, bodacious women, over-the-top parties and various types of debauchery that occur when people make too much money. Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, stars as Spencer Strasmore, former pro football player-turned-financial advisor who has to hone a new skill: converting friendships with his former teammates and colleagues into financial relationships so he can make a living. If the “Entourage” movie left you wanting more, you may find your fix with “Ballers,” which depicts football players as rock stars. The show comes from the same.

Haley Joel Osment is definitely not a child actor anymore. Haley, who got his start in Hollywood when he was just 4 years old, is known for his impressive performances in movies like Forrest Gump and The Sixth Sense. Now the 27-year-old is back on the big screen in the new Entourage movie and is quickly proving that he still has what it takes. Haley, who stirs up trouble in the flick as Billy Bob Thornton's son Travis McCredle, says working with the other guys was a serious dream come true. "I remember when [Entourage] first came out it was huge with kids in my high school," Haley told Entertainment Tonight. "It's just a really surreal experience to be a part of it in such a small way." Keep reading to see more photos of Haley's grown-up self, then test your knowledge of the film and see how many celebrities you can spot in the trailer.

Caitlyn Jenner will always be an Olympic hero. Jenner was crowned "the world's greatest athlete" after winning the decathlon and gold medal in 1976. "I think she's going to be totally embraced by her fellow Olympians and all her fans," Olympic gold medal diver Greg Louganis told me last night at the premiere of Entourage (in theaters on June 3). "I think it's a great. I think it's wonderful that she can be herself." Louganis earned gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics. He revealed he was gay and HIV positive in 1996 in his best selling autobiography Breaking the Silence and during an interview with Oprah Winfrey that coincided with the book's release. He...

Having never watched an episode of the HBO series, I was surprised to find that my favorite character in the “Entourage” movie was Travis, the rich Texan blowhard portrayed by Haley Joel Osment. Travis is the film’s one unlikable character who’s creepy, conniving, entitled, obnoxious and a total pig. All the other creepy, conniving, entitled, obnoxious total pigs in the movie are apparently supposed to be the heroes. When it comes to knockout blows, Ronda Rousey is a champ at delivering them in – and apparently, out – of the ring.
Access Hollywood's Stephanie Bauer sat down with the Mma champ to discuss her role in the "Entourage" movie, but when talk turned to a hypothetical match with boxing champ Floyd Mayweather, Ronda took quite a jab at Floyd.
"Mayweather is undefeated. You're undefeated… could you take him down?" Stephanie asked Ronda.
