- An African refugee, whose identity is unknown, is being interrogated in prison. He refuses to speak and eat, seems traumatized. When the prison guard, who is looking after the prisoner, finds a hidden photograph, he realizes there is something out of the ordinary about this refugee. Inside the dreary prison cell there is a friendly relationship developing between the two of them. The prison guard is the only one who learns about the refugees past and motives. What connects the two of them is the shared fate of having lost a loved one. The guard decides to help the refugee, even if it means risking his own job. But time is getting short and the deportation machinery is already in full play.—Anonymous
- A black John Doe is being held in a German jail on the quite certain assumption that he is an illegal immigrant from some African country, although he has not uttered a word to the authorities in prison confirming or denying that accusation. The corrections officials have allowed the man to keep in his possession a small idol - what they mockingly refer to as a voodoo idol - as they see it as not being able to be used violently against them or to himself. They are unaware that that idol does contain the key to the man's mission. The one face of humanity the man sees in the prison is his guard, who may feel that same sense of humanity toward his prisoner in helping him achieve his very personal mission.—Huggo
