As much fun as it is to watch the celebrities perform on “The Masked Singer,” we get even more enjoyment from figuring out who they are. That is especially true if we can crack the mystery of who is hiding inside a costume before the four judges.
Season 7 of “The Masked Singer” promises to be the most competitive yet. The producers have packed the line-up with 16 stars performing inside 15 costumes (a pair were paired up as Hydra). They are divided into three types, the Good, the Bad and the Cuddly, and performed in groups of five. Group A is down to just one star still standing, the Firefly. Group B sang for the first time on March 30, with Lemur unmasked as supermodel Christie Brinkley. On April 6, we saw the exit of Hydra, who turned out to be magicians Penn & Teller.

Adon Blake was visiting the National Gallery of Victoria in 2018 with his wife when he came across Peter Graham’s 1889 painting After the Massacre of Glencoe.
The haunting depiction of survivors climbing to safety in the Scottish Highlands above their torched homes would form the inspiration for his debut feature Heretics, which wrapped filming in Western Australia in August.
Set in 10th century Europe, the film follows 15-year-old Alka (Chloe-Jean Vincent), who must find the courage within herself to save her brother Sylwester (Kilian Roberts) from the clutches of the enemy.
The cast also includes Scott Cathery, Justin Markham, William Wallace Killen, and Kiran Wilson.
Blake, who wrote, directed, and is producing the project via his company Full Heart Films, said he wrote the story after being fascinated by the landscape in Graham’s work.
“For whatever reason, I imagined a family running up that hill [in the painting] away from something,” he said.

“Why don’t you come around for dinner?,” Barcelona lifeguard Gerard Casals (Dani Rovira) asks his boss, Oscar Camps (Eduard Fernández), at the beginning of “Mediterráneo: The Law of the Sea.”
“I’ve got other plans,” says Camps. Cut to his sitting on his sofa, eating a warmed-up microwave dinner watching TV on his laptop.
Then Camps catches a news report featuring the horrific images of 3-year-old Syrian toddler Alan Kurdi, his lifeless body lying on a Turkish beach, washed by waves, after the dingy he was in capsized.
Two days later, Oscar and Gerard are sitting on a beach in Lesbos, Greece, looking across at the hulking headlands of Turkey, just seven miles away across a strait that separates Asia from the European Union. “People are dying in the sea; we’re lifeguards,” he says. Ridley Scott’s Scott Free has nabbed the screen rights to dystopian thriller “I Alone Survive” after a three-way auction, Variety has confirmed.
Bethany Clift’s comedic debut novel centers on a woman in her mid-thirties who has spent her life pretending to be what other people want her to be. When she becomes the sole survivor of a global pandemic, she has to learn to lead an independent life, free from other people’s rules.
Marina Brackenbury, head of TV and film at Scott Free in London, acquired the rights from literary agent Cara Lee Simpson at Jonathan Clowes.
“I was instantly struck by the distinctive tone of Bethany’s writing, and I’m determined the TV series lives up to the book in its ability to thoroughly entertain, whilst speaking honestly to a wide range of issues women face that rarely get discussed,” Brackenbury told The Bookseller magazine.

Chiwetel Ejiofor has quietly climbed his way to the top of the character actor food chain over the past two decades; despite memorable leading performances in films like “Come Sunday” and “12 Years a Slave” (which netted him a Best Actor nod at the Oscars and a BAFTA win), he has most commonly flourished as a strong supporting actor, bringing a certain gravitas to films like “Amistad,” “Serenity,” “The Martian,” “Doctor Strange,” and this year’s “The Lion King.” Now, he is set to truly come into the spotlight by making his directorial debut, “The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind,” which is having its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

Preaching to the Choir: Marston Tackles Modern Heresy in Orthodox Glance at Evangelical Hypocrisy
There are numerous epithets various strands of Christianity tend to utilize as regular mantras meant to provide evidence of their generous spirits, such as “Love the sinner. Not the sin.” Or perhaps the ever popular, “Judge not less ye be judged.” Often, these are simply superficial throwaways, mere lip-service of progressive attitudes which immediately fall to the way side when their beliefs are challenged or threatened. Preacher Carlton Pearson (Chiwetel Ejiofor) wrestles with the pull of organized religion and divine belief in Netflix’s superb new film “Come Sunday.” Equal parts religious meditation and institutional indictment, Joshua Marston continues his streak of exceptional films, beginning with 2004’s “Maria Full of Grace” and, more recently, “Complete Unknown.” Buoyed by exceptional performances by Ejiofor, Jason Segel, and notably, Lakeith Stanfield, “Come Sunday” is a film that should not be missed.

Maria Full of Grace and The Forgiveness of Blood director Joshua Marston returned to Sundance this year with his new drama Come Sunday. Led by Chiwetel Ejiofor as Bishop Carlton Pearson, it tells the true story of how most of his congregation turned their backs on him after he shied away from biblical rhetoric and got to the heart of Jesus’ message. Produced by Ira Glass, ahead of a Netflix release, the first trailer has now arrived.
Dan Schindel said in his Sundance review. “It’s rare that mainstream filmmakers attempt to take seriously matters of faith – a subject personal to a majority of people but which movies have historically handled clumsily. This perhaps exposes the gap in the competencies between the greats and the merely good, Ok, or less. It takes a true understanding of an art form to use it to express the ineffable, spiritual aspects of human experience.

At first glance, Come Sunday is nothing we haven’t seen before out of Hollywood. There’s a tormented man in a position of authority, a deeply religious story about a church community, and a powerful performance from an underrated actor. But little did you know, Come Sunday is actually the beginning of a burgeoning new genre of films: […]

"You need to consider everything you're putting at risk, and not just for yourself." Netflix has released the first official trailer for a film titled Come Sunday, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Oscar-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Bishop Carlton Pearson, an evangelical megastar, brilliant orator, and television host with millions of followers. He suddenly has an epiphany one day and realizes: God loves all humankind; everyone is already saved, whether Christian or not; and there is no hell. But preaching this gets him into all kinds of trouble. The cast includes Danny Glover, Condola Rashad, Jason Segel, Lakeith Stanfield, and Martin Sheen. These kinds of religious dramas aren't really my jam, even with Ejiofor in the lead role, but I have to admit - damn does this trailer look good. Watch below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Joshua Marston's Come Sunday, direct from YouTube: Internationally-renowned pastor,...

Christian movies are ready to cross over. Fourteen years have passed since “The Passion of the Christ” became a national sensation, and while no one has managed to match the hysteria that greeted Mel Gibson’s New Testament snuff film, companies like Pure Flix and Mission Pictures International have cultivated a lucrative cottage industry of cinema for the Focus on the Family crowd. Over and over again, these religious offerings have surprised box office pundits and raked in blockbuster numbers, with everyone from Pat Robertson to Joel Osteen spreading the good word in an effort to close the gap between megachurches and multiplexes.

Despite being an Oscar-nominated lead actor thanks to “12 Years A Slave,” Chiwetel Ejiofor still doesn’t get enough opportunities to lead movies. Let Netflix’s upcoming drama “Come Sunday” be another powerful reminder why that needs to change.
The film, directed by “Maria Full of Grace” and “Complete Unknown” filmmaker Joshua Marston, casts Ejiofor in the true story of the conflicted Bishop Carlton Pearson. Members of Pearson’s church conspired to have him removed for heresy after he started preaching that Hell doesn’t exist. The drama co-stars Jason Segel, Danny Glover, Martin Sheen, and Lakeith Stanfield.
“Come Sunday” will debut on Netflix April 13. Watch the official trailer below.

“Come Sunday” is an interesting film to come from Netflix. While the streaming service is gaining headlines for throwing truckloads of money at television producers, and betting big on high-profile films with name recognition, they also seem to be releasing smaller, more personal films, like “Come Sunday,” that are the real gems people should be excited about. In the trailer for “Come Sunday,” we see exactly why Netflix purchased this film, and why the streaming giant is the perfect destination for this project.

You’ve seen Phantom Thread, perhaps multiple times. You’ve been playing Jonny Greenwood’s score on repeat. And now you’re wondering what to do until the Blu-ray arrives this April. Well, Paul Thomas Anderson has you covered. In special screenings around the country, you might have heard a few songs play before the film begins, and now Tiff has revealed those were hand-selected by the director for a special pre-viewing playlist.
They’ve now revealed the full list of songs, clocking in at 23 and ranging from Beyoncé to Bruce Springsteen to Rihanna to Neil Young to Carly Simon and far beyond. Of course, there’s also some Bernard Herrmann thrown in for good measure. Ahead of 70mm screenings at the Tiff Bell Lightbox starting Friday, they’ve collected the tracks into a Spotify list, which can be listened to below, followed by a round-up of recent extensive Phantom Thread talks with its creators.

Paul Thomas Anderson is here to help you set the mood before your “Phantom Thread” viewing. While Jonny Greenwood’s Oscar-nominated score is well worth numerous streams, the director has curated his own mixtape of 23 songs he suggests you listen to before watching his romance drama. Anderson shared the playlist with Tiff., All 70mm screenings of “Phantom Thread” at the Tiff Bell Lightbox theater will play the songs before showtime.
The mixtape is pretty incredible on its own, featuring hits from Beyoncé, Rihanna, Carly Simon, Neil Young, and more, but it’s even better for those who have seen “Phantom Thread” and understand the relationship between Daniel Day-Lewis’ Reynolds Woodcock and Vicky Krieps’ Alma. Rihanna’s “Stay” is especially appropriate for the two lovers.
The full “Phantom Thread” playlist is below, courtesy of Tiff. The film is up for six Oscars at the Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

On her prom night, Cameron Post (Chloë Grace Moretz) gets caught making out with her high school girlfriend in the parking lot, resulting in her parents sending her off to God’s Promise, a gay conversion therapy camp. Featuring weeks of religious gaslighting in which those in charge not only you tell you the desires of your heart are immoral, but homosexuality itself doesn’t even exist, The Miseducation of Cameron Post provides a tender, well-rounded, if not entirely successful look at the emotionally abusive experience.

Chiwetel Ejiofor delivers a deeply moving portrayal of a Pentecostal preacher in the throes of a religious crisis in “Come Sunday,” a glimpse into the soul of a real-life man challenged to change his beliefs. Based on a reported segment on “This American Life,” “Come Sunday” tells the story of Bishop Carlton Pearson, who for many years led a million-strong Pentecostal ministry based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, until 1998, when he found his faith challenged. Pearson decided that he no longer believed in hell, no longer believed that only saved Christians would go to heaven and no longer believed that his form...

Fourteen years after wowing Sundance with his feature debut, Maria Full of Grace, director Joshua Marston returns with arguably his most powerful work since that harrowing drug and migration drama. Developed from a story broadcast on Ira Glass' long-running public radio show This American Life about the crisis of faith that shook renowned Pentecostal bishop Carlton Pearson in the late 1990s, Come Sunday is a mesmerizing contemplation of the clash between rigid dogma and considered reinterpretation. The fact that it comes down on the side of mind-opening inclusion makes it an especially timely discussion in the current national climate.

There’s no denying that Amazon Prime is worth the $99/year, which not only gives you access to many movies but also a good amount of music streaming and digital media access, plus faster shipping for when you actually want some sort of physical product (you can also just get video content for $8.99/month, which oddly means paying more for less).
And Netflix is still a must-have for both its exclusive and nonexclusive content, though depending on one’s usage could be best for sporadic membership rather than continued subscription — now at $120/year...
