Most Disney+ shows arrive on the streamer early in the morning so that fans can watch as soon as they wake up, but that won’t be the case for ‘The Acolyte.’
Did “The Acolyte” miss an opportunity to release on Star Wars Day? May the Fourth would have been a perfect opportunity to roll the show out and take full advantage of the joke, but for whatever reason Disney+ decided to wait another month and debut the new live-action Star Wars series on Tuesday, June 4. The show will differ from other major premieres on Disney+, in that it will release its first episode at a special time to help the series feel more like a major TV debut of old.
Key Details: “The Acolyte” will release its first episode at 9 p.m. Et on Tuesday, June 4. Subsequent episodes will be available at the same time on subsequent Tuesdays. There...

As this slow broadcast network pilot season continues, ABC has ordered its second comedy pilot of the year: “Forgive and Forget,” a multi-camera comedy set to star Emmy-winning “Modern Family” alum Ty Burrell.
Burrell is also on board as an executive producer (through his Desert Whale Prods. shingle) on “Forgive and Forget,” while Eugene Garcia-Cross is writer/exec producer and Robin Shorr is on board as showrunner and exec producer. 20th Television is behind the project, which stars Burrell as Hank, a perennial “life of the party.” According to the logline, Hank gets an unexpected diagnosis, leading him to reconnect with his responsible adult son Ben.

Tim Allen is one step closer to returning to ABC for a third time. The Alphabet net has given a pilot order to his latest sitcom, “Shifting Gears,” from 20th Television. Allen is on board to star and executive produce the multi-cam sitcom pilot — which is still a working title — which will also be written and executive produced by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully.
In the project, Allen plays Matt, the “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina are the non-writing exec producers on the show.

Anna Nicole Smith died 17 years ago this month, but the fascination with the blond bombshell continues unabated.
Kal Penn is set to star in “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor,” a film that chronicles the final days of the actress and model whose accidental overdose death in 2007 at the age of 39 sparked a tabloid feeding frenzy. “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor,” which is based on Dr. Sandeep Kapoor’s 2017 book of the same name, marks the second film about Smith to move forward in recent months. In late December, the biopic “Hurricanna” wrapped production, with Sylvia Hoeks and Holly Hunter in the lead roles.
Written and directed by Thane Economou (“The Wedding Party”), “Trust Me I’m a Doctor” follows Smith’s pain-medication doctor whose life was turned upside down when he was implicated in the wrongful death trials of the one-time Playboy centerfold. Smith became a household name when she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J.

Back at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, Celine Song’s debut feature, “Past Lives,” premiered to rave reviews and early speculation about its awards chances. That turned out to be prescient. One year later, “Past Lives” is a 2024 Oscars Best Picture nominee, while Song is a nominee for Best Original Screenplay. So with the 2024 Sundance Film Festival at its end, what better time than now to speculate about what next year’s “Past Lives” will be? Whether anything on 2024’s Sundance roster can scale those heights is up for debate, but plenty of promising titles could compete for acting and screenplay prizes. The documentary lineup was robust this year, which makes sense: Six of the last 10 Best Documentary Feature Film winners got their start at Sundance.

Disney+ is not proceeding with a second season of Disney Branded Television/20th Television’s action fantasy series American Born Chinese, which stars Oscar winners Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh.

Three weeks after premiering on Netflix, Young Sheldon has ascended to the most watched show on streaming platforms in the United States. A platform switch to Netflix also sent The Super Mario Bros. Movie to its biggest streaming week to date.
The two titles, which rank second and third on Nielsen’s streaming chart for the week of Dec. 4-10, are the latest examples of Netflix’s multiplying power. Young Sheldon had 1.63 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix and Max for the week, after recording 1.85 billion minutes a week earlier and 963 million for its first week on both platforms. The first episode of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” brought in 13.3 million viewers in its first six days on Disney+ and Hulu.
This number puts the series among the top five most-watched season premieres in all of 2023 on both streaming services. While the exact titles that make up the top five lists are unknown, both platforms released major titles this year. Among Disney+ debuts were “The Mandalorian” Season 3, “Loki” Season 2, “Ahsoka” and “Secret Invasion.” Hulu releases in 2023 included “The Bear” Season 2, “Only Murders in the Building” Season 3, “The Kardashians” Seasons 3 and 4, “American Horror Stories” Season 3, the “Futurama” reboot and more.
13.3 million viewers in six days marks an impressive showing for “Percy Jackson.” For comparison, previously released premiere statistics from Disney+ include “Ahsoka,” which reached a slightly higher 14 million viewers in a slightly shorter five days of viewing, and “Loki” Season 2, which reached 10.9 million premiere viewers in just three days — and...

Squid Game: The Challenge may not be as big as the show that inspired it, but the competition series still got off to a very strong start.

Squid Game: The Challenge drew 1.42 billion minutes of viewing in the United States for the week of Nov. 20-26. It was the top streaming series for the week, beating out Bluey (1.17 billion minutes) on Disney+, and finished second overall behind the 1.53 billion minutes for Leo.

One of the costars of the Disney+ show, The Santa Clauses, Casey Wilson, accused the show’s lead, Tim Allen, of being rude on set.
“Tim Allen was such a b—,” the Saturday Night Live alum declared on her podcast, B— Sesh: A Real Housewives Breakdown. “Worst, truly single worst experience I’ve ever had with a co-star ever.”
She remembered filming the scene where her character, the older version of Sarah from the original film who gave Scott Calvin/Santa Claus (played by Allen) soy milk, notices him entering her house and assumes he is a burglar.
“I’m supposed to throw things at him,” the actress recalled. “He’s coming down the chimney, obviously as Santa. And I am woken up thinking there’s an intruder – basically like a home invasion scene.”
Wilson said Allen did not like her performance.

Eric Stonestreet caused some concern with his appearance on The Today Show, but he’s explaining what actually happened.
The 52-year-old Modern Family actor appeared on the show on Friday morning (December 8) to promote the second season of his Disney+ series The Santa Clauses.
Before his interview, hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager teased that he was appearing next and they showed a clip of him sitting in the chair and waving at the camera. While he was waving, Eric appeared to be in phyiscal pain.
One fan even tweeted, “@ericstonestreet I’m sorry you are in so much pain. You can see it in your eyes. I’ve battled chronic pain from fractures associated with severe osteoporosis. Take care of your self. Keeping you in my prayers.

One of the producers of Disney+'s The Santa Clauses series thinks there is a "good shot" the show will return for Season 3.
As a part of Disney's festive fare, the hit Santa Clauses series returned this holiday season, continuing the story of Tim Allen's Scott Calvin originally set up in the beloved Santa Clause films of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
After a successful first season, the Yuletide TV show was greenlit for another batch of episodes (released in 2023). Still, the franchise's future remains a mystery with the studio keeping mum on a potential third season.

Tim Allen did not leave his The Santa Clauses costar Casey Wilson with positive memories of their time together on the set of the Disney+ series.

There was very little “ho ho ho-ing” on the set of Disney+’s The Santa Clauses, if one of the co-stars is be believed.
Casey Wilson, who appeared alongside Tim Allen for the pilot episode of the series, slammed him in a recent talk on her podcast. She claims working with him was the “truly single worst experience I’ve ever had with a costar ever.”
“Tim Allen was such a b – – h,” she said. The Saturday Night Live star claimed she didn’t put Allen on the naughty list right away, saying she “buried this” information for more than a year since the series’ release. Why? A friend was a producer and her kids “loved the movies.”
The series was a continuation of Allen’s classic “Santa Clause” films. Wilson portrayed “Adult Sarah” in the series, the grown version of the girl who gave Santa soy milk in the first film.

Before the Thanksgiving break in the United States, Tim Allen said Disney contacted him and Tom Hanks about reprising their iconic Toy Story roles for a fifth film in the franchise. According to Allen, “one of the creators of the original series” is in charge of the new script. Allen says Bob Iger is enthusiastic about making another Toy Story sequel, and smoke on the street implies a seasoned writer is in charge of penning the screenplay.
