On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller would be developing a Friday the 13th series called Crystal Lake for A24 and the Peacock streaming service. The lengthy writers strike slowed down the progress of the show – but now that the strike is over, Crystal Lake is probably getting back on track, and since Friday the 13th has come back around on the calendar, we thought this would be a good time for us to share Everything We Know About Crystal Lake!
May 2024 Update: Well, we’re back to the drawing board, because A24 has decided to “go a different way” with the material, moving ahead with Crystal Lake without the involvement of Bryan Fuller. The search for a new showrunner is underway. So for right now, it could be said that we don’t know anything about what Crystal Lake will be. We only have an...

There is lots of news dribbling out of Netflix today.
While we don’t have many details, we might as well get the discussion started.
Here’s what we’ve got.
Adam Sandler Revives Happy Gilmore
For fans of Adam Sandler, the movie Happy Gilmore might be one of his greatest achievements.
Golfers rarely get the movie star treatment despite the amount of money that goes to the winners, but this 1996 movie uses adversity to push him toward the big prize.
Today, Netflix announced that they’d be reviving Mr. Gilmore, but little else is known.
Should some of Happy’s old rivals return?
Christopher McDonald played Happy’s rival Shooter McGavin, and he mentioned the project in March.
Whether that means he’ll be along for the ride remains to be seen.
Golf Starring Will Ferrell Greenlit
Timing is everything!
Is this a hint that Netflix is hoping to...

Variety has shared a piece on 2024's streaming titles, confirming Echo is the second most-viewed series on Disney+ this year so far. It's an impressive achievement, particularly as Marvel Studios dropped all five episodes at once, leading to the show being quickly forgotten.
We've seen in recent years that weekly drops are much better for keeping people talking about new titles (which goes against Netflix's once highly successful streaming model of releasing every episode at once).
Rumour has it Echo suffered from quite a few issues behind the scenes, with six instalments becoming five, as a result. That could explain why they hit Disney+ on the same day, though reviews were somewhat positive as is evident from the show's 71% Rotten Tomatoes score.
However, putting this news into context is the fact, "[Percy Jackson and the Olympians] accounts for nearly a quarter of Disney+ original series viewing time so far...

It’s been quite a week for Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th prequel series which has been in development from Hannibal‘s Bryan Fuller. Initial reports stated that A24 had pulled the plug on the project, but a subsequent report claimed it was still alive, just undergoing a “retooling.” Bryan Fuller has now taken to Instagram to address what’s going on with the series, and unfortunately, it sounds like he’s no longer involved.

“Adapting classic horror is something I have some experience with,” Fuller wrote. “These shows require a vision that elevates and transforms, as well as delivers what audiences have come to expect, which is an ambitious and risky endeavor. It requires people to take the leap with me.“
Fuller continued: “When it works, as with Hannibal, the results can be powerful for the storytellers and the audience.

The “Friday the 13th” prequel series in the works at Peacock from A24 is in search of a new showrunner.
Bryan Fuller — who was announced as the show’s writer, executive producer, and showrunner when it was first ordered to series in 2022 — took to Twitter to announce that he has been fired from the show due to creative differences.
“For reasons beyond our control, A24 has elected to go a different way with the material,” he said. “We hope the final product will be something ‘Friday the 13th’ fans all over the world will enjoy.”
Trouble on the series was first reported earlier in the week by the InSneider newsletter. However, according to an individual with knowledge of the project, the series order remains in place with hopes to line up a new showrunner as soon as possible. Production had not begun on the series, nor had any casting taken place.

Based on a comic series by acclaimed fantasy writer Gaiman and produced by co-showrunners Steve Yockey (“The Flight Attendant”) and Beth Schwartz (“Sweet Tooth”) and superproducers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter, “Dead Boy Detectives” follows a pair of paranormal detectives, Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), who are best friends and ghosts, as they solve paranormal mysteries in the mortal world.

With shows like “American Gods,” “Good Omens,” and Netflix’s “Sandman” series based on his works, author Neil Gaiman has really been leading the charge for fantasy shows in the streaming age. And yet Another series adaptation of his work is coming to Netflix on April 25, helping to expand “The Sandman” universe. Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming “Dead Boy Detectives,” created by co-showrunners Steve Yockey (“The Flight Attendant”) and Beth Schwartz (“Sweet Tooth,” “Arrow”) and based on DC Comics/Vertigo characters that Gaiman and Matt Wagner created in the early 1990s (the sibling supernatural sleuths first appeared in the pages of Gaiman’s “The Sandman” back in 1991).

Last week, Max finally released the trailer for their much-anticipated The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin, teeing up its fall release date. Overall, it looks highly reminiscent of Matt Reeves’ film, with the cinematography very much in the Grieg Fraser mode. But what else do we know about The Penguin? More than you may think.
The Penguin is set after The Batman.
The plot of The Penguin is set to follow the title character, once again portrayed by Colin Farrell, as he rises through the ranks of the Gotham City criminal underworld. After the events of The Batman and the flooding of Gotham, including the death of Carmine Falcone, Cobblepot desperately wants to fill the power vacuum. Colin Farrell has also indicated that the film will serve as an origin story for the Penguin, something we have seen twice on screen before in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, played by Danny DeVito.

When asked about the long journey to Star Trek: Discovery‘s fifth and final season, producer Alex Kurtzman is honest but optimistic. “It’s been an incredible ride for us,” Kurtzman tells Den of Geek when we chat with him at SXSW 2024. “And yeah, it was an incredibly bumpy first year.”
Kurtzman’s referring to the behind-the-scenes difficulties that plagued the show’s first two seasons. Initially developed by Bryan Fuller, who wrote for Deep Space Nine and Voyager before going on to make fan-favorite shows such as Hannibal and American Gods, Discovery ultimately premiered with Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts as showrunners. By the end of season two, both had left the show, with Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise stepping in as showrunners to right the ship.

The production of "Star Trek: Discovery," as Trekkies likely know, was notoriously troubled. The original concept for "Discovery," as envisioned by TV mastermind Bryan Fuller, was a "Star Trek" anthology show wherein every season would take place in a different era in "Trek" history. The first season was to take place shortly before the events of the original 1966 "Star Trek" series, while the second would be concurrent with the original series. The third season would overlap with "Star Trek: The Next Generation," set a century later, and the fourth would take the series into the distant future.
"Discovery" followed this mold, but only kind of. The first season of "Discovery" did indeed precede the original series, while its second interacted directly with a young Spock (Ethan Peck) and the pre-Kirk USS Enterprise. Then, thanks to a time portal, the USS Discovery was thrown forward in time almost a millennium, and...

Whether you loved The Batman (2022) or thought it was overhyped, it's hard to find anyone who didn't at least enjoy Colin Farrell's unique take on the Penguin.
So, when it came time to pitch a spin-off, Farrell's scene-stealing crime boss seemed the natural choice. He steals your attention anytime he's on the screen, and who doesn't love an epic crime drama?
Details on the new TV series following Oswald Cobblepot are scant at present, but we've managed to dig up a bit of info to whet the appetite.
Has The Penguin Been Greenlit?
Yes, The Penguin is in post-production as of the time of this writing, so go ahead and get excited. This isn't one of those things they announce, and then everyone forgets about it; it's actually happening.
Filming has already wrapped, and now it's simply a matter of waiting for the release date.

Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel Anansi Boys is heading to the sequential art world of comics.
The 2005 novel, a New York Times best-seller that won the Locus and British Fantasy Awards, is being adapted by Dark Horse Comics, which has set screenwriter and comics author Marc Bernardin to pen what will be an eight-issue miniseries.
Shawn Martinbrough, perhaps best known as the longtime artist of the Robert Kirkman title Thief of Thieves as well as Marvel’s Luke Cage Noir, is drawing the book, which will have colors by Chris Sotomayor and letters by Jim Campbell. The first issue is due to hit stores June 26.
The novel told the travails of “Fat” Charlie Nancy, who leads a boring life as a boring Londoner until he discovers two things: that his recently deceased father was, in fact, Anansi, the trickster god of African folklore, and that he has a twin brother he’s never met.

It’s a pretty great time to be a Neil Gaiman fan. Technically, it’s always a great time to be a Neil Gaiman fan, but it’s almost certainly never felt more fun than at this precise moment.
Good Omens, The Sandman, and American Gods have all been adapted for television within the past five years, each with a rather astonishing degree of accuracy and faithfulness-–certainly to the spirit, if not always the letter of the author’s most popular works. Moviegoers are due to see the pair of Aussies team up for the second time in as many years in February's military action thriller "Land of Bad." The pair recently co-starred in the 2022 movie "Poker Face" (no relation to the TV show of the same name), a thriller about a high stakes poker game gone wrong that was directed by Crowe himself.
This time around it's not a card game that goes wrong, but a mission. "Land of Bad" follows a group of military men on an extraction assignment in the Philippines that takes a bloody turn, leaving one young officer at the mercy of the elements and local militia. Fortunately, he's not alone: he's got Russell Crowe's drone pilot droning in his ear,...

Ian McShane is 81, but you’d never know it watching him in “American Star.”
Also a producer of director Gonzalo López-Gallego’s new film, the English actor plays Wilson, a seasoned assassin who visits the Canary Islands’ Fuerteventura for a job, but instead unexpectedly becomes involved in the life of a French expatriate (Nora Arnezeder) and the lonely child of a vacationing couple (Oscar Coleman). From the first scene, McShane dances across the screen with the same effortlessness of a performer a quarter of his age, as his character reckons with an escalating series of disruptions to a sequence of events whose outcome is inevitable: someone dying of a bullet from his gun.
Though he’s been working in film, TV and theater for more than six decades, McShane has become well known in America largely in the last two, playing mentors and authority figures on series like “Deadwood” and “American Gods,...

Paramount+’s two-minute official trailer for the sci-fi thriller Halo teases that when events spiral out of control, we save what we can. “Looking at your faces, I do not see defeat and I do not see surrender,” says Captain Jacob Keyes (Danny Sapani). Master Chief and the Spartans have heroes on their side, while the Covenant does not.
Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) returns to lead the video game-inspired series as Master Chief, Spartan-117, with Natascha McElhone (Californication) back as Dr. Halsey. Returning cast members include Jen Taylor, Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo), Shabana Azmi (Fire), Natasha Culzac (The Witcher), Olive Gray (Half Moon Investigations), and Yerin Ha (Reef Break). Also back for season two are Bentley Kalu (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Kate Kennedy (Catastrophe), Charlie Murphy (Peaky Blinders), Danny Sapani (Penny Dreadful), Fiona O’Shaughnessy (The Forgiven), and Tylan Bailey.

The "Halo" season 2 trailer has arrived, and it brings with it the return of Master Chief who is now facing a new, familiar threat to those who played the games: The Covenant. Indeed, this season will see the sword-wielding aliens wreaking havoc. It appears that the folks at Paramount+ spared no expense in crafting the second season of this show, but will that be enough to turn it into the series everyone hoped it would be in the first place?
This trailer is very moody and overflowing with gloomy action. It's got a "Starship Troopers" vibe to it at times, just without all of the vibrant color and blatant political commentary. We're also, once again, seeing Master Chief without his helmet off an awful lot. Love it or hate it, that element of the show remains in place. It's very cinematic and a lot of the visual effects look big-screen worthy.

The line between animation and live action is brilliantly blurred in “Blue Eye Samurai,” the 2D/3D hybrid animated action series set during Edo-period Japan. It’s “Mulan” meets “Game of Thrones,” in which Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine) — a mixed-race, lone-wolf warrior — lives in disguise seeking revenge on the four white men who made her a “creature of shame”.
“Blue Eye Samurai” represents a bold, cinematic leap in TV adult animation that’s driven by the period-authentic scope and spectacle. All eight episodes are treated as a different genre, and the graphic violence and sex are enhanced by the stylistic poetry of the animated form (the characters are inspired by Bunraku puppets and the visual style by ukiyo-e woodblock prints). Crucially, though, its exploration of race and gender through the dark lens of anti-hero Mizu is refreshing and relatable.

“Queer for Fear” executive producer Bryan Fuller has been sued for alleged sexual harassment and sexual assault on the set of the 2021 Shudder docuseries. An attorney for the “Hannibal” creator said he intends to countersue for defamation and malicious prosecution.

Producer and showrunner Bryan Fuller, known for creating Hannibal and American Gods, has been sued for alleged sexual assault and harassment in a lawsuit that accuses AMC Networks, Shudder and Steakhaus Productions of ignoring and facilitating a hostile work environment on the set of Queer for Fear.
Series producer Samuel Wineman filed on Wednesday a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against the producers of the Shudder original, alleging they knew about “Fuller’s acts of and propensity to commit acts of discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, and retaliation” but “failed to take immediate and appropriate corrective action.”
An AMC spokesperson said the company is reviewing the complaint. Fuller, Shudder and Steakhaus Productions didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

Bryan Fuller, the creator of shows including “Hannibal” and “American Gods,” was accused in a lawsuit on Wednesday of sexually harassing a fellow producer on an AMC docuseries about queer horror.
Fuller is accused of making constant references to masturbation, engaging in casual bullying, and creating a hostile work environment. The plaintiff, Sam Wineman, alleges that Fuller also repeatedly held him from behind to “crack his back,” during which he would press his penis against Wineman’s buttocks.
Fuller and Wineman are both gay. They worked together on the series “Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror,” a four-part docuseries that was released on AMC’s Shudder streaming service in 2022.
Wineman alleges that he was removed from the project in August 2021, about four weeks after complaining about Fuller’s conduct.

Updated with correction in lawyer’s statement: A producer on Shudder’s Queer for Fear series has sued the streaming service, AMC Networks and executive producer Bryan Fuller for sexual harassment, a hostile work environment and retaliation. In response, a new suit for defamation and malicious prosecution could be coming soon, an attorney for Fuller says.
“Defendant Bryan Fuller cultivated and maintained a hostile work environment as a result of harassment, discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault and retaliation from the years 2020 to 2022,” alleges Sam Wineman in a graphic and explicit filing that hit the Los Angeles Superior Court docket yesterday.
“Mr. Fuller sexually assaulted plaintiff several times throughout the Steakhaus Production of Queer for Fear for AMC defendants and their streaming service Shudder,” Wineman and his Good Gustafson Aumais Llp and Atkins & Associates lawyers add in the September 28 dated complaint, which is seeking a jury trial.
