- TriviaThis was Bob Newhart's first appearance in what became a recurring role as Professor Proton. Series creator Chuck Lorre had wanted Newhart to appear in one of his shows for years, and finally suggested The Big Bang Theory to him. Newhart agreed, as long as it was a recurring role, and the episodes would be taped live.
- GoofsSheldon repeatedly addresses Professor Proton as Mr. Jeffries, even after Arthur Jeffries has told him that he has a Ph.D. As a stickler for detail, and as a mark of the respect he obviously feels, Sheldon should address him as Dr. Jeffries.
- Quotes
Professor Proton: Is the, is the blonde girl really your, your girlfriend?
Leonard Hofstadter: Yes, sir.
Professor Proton: You're the genius.

On what is perhaps the most bewildering experience of my life, I have, for the most part, chosen to remain silent. There have been times when it felt like I was actually swallowing my thoughts. But this comes at a price. Suppressed cogitation tends to gestate. It grows into something else. Self-immolating bitterness is one of the outcomes I've tried to avoid. That has tumor written all over it. Alternatively, these thoughts could morph into something beautiful; Superman's diamond wrought from a lump of coal comes to mind. But one thing's for sure, whatever the hell is growing inside me has to eventually be pushed out. Once it arrives, I'll leave it to others to decide if its metaphorical journey into daylight was through my metaphorical vaginal canal or my metaphorical ass.

Best episode yet!
I'm a huge fan and have been since the beginning... and I understand there's been a LOT of GREAT episodes (any episode with Leonard's mom, Bath Gift Item Hypothesis, Pants Alternative, etc), but for anyone who loves dry humor this is the best episode yet! I liked the earlier seasons much better than the recent seasons, but this is the exception! Bob Newhart as Professor Proton is absolutely hysterical...while not looking like he's even trying. Penny's enthusiasm and Sheldon's crazy work as perfect foils to Professor Proton. My friends and I have been quoting the episode every day for the last week... I still laugh thinking about it! Phenomenal acting job. I hope he comes back again for another guest appearance!
