Kyle Richards Gets Overhaul, Shocks With Naked-Faced Selfie
In the last year, Kyle Richards’ life has dramatically changed. She was the subject of cheating rumors between herself and country singer, Morgan Wade. Da’Vine Joy Randolph only broke out in 2019, but she’s already one of the most talented actors in the business.
Born in 1986 to a Philadelphia family, Randolph has her roots in the theater; at Temple University, she initially studied classical vocal performance and opera, switching her major to musical theater. After graduation, she attended the Yale School of Drama, graduating in 2011 with a Master’s. Immediately out of school, she was cast in the Broadway musical adaptation of “Ghost: The Musical,” and her performance as medium Oda Mae Brown netted her a Tony Award nomination.
From there, Randolph became a regular face on TV and film, frequently playing bit roles in films and shows like “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn,” “Office Christmas Party,” “This Is Us,” “Veep,” “On Becoming a God in Central Florida,” and “Empire.” A main part in the short-lived 2014 series “Selfie” aside, none of these parts were particularly meaty.

After her supporting role in HBO’s critically panned series The Idol, which was canceled after one season, Da’Vine Joy Randolph is now an Oscar nominee for her supporting role in The Holdovers. In an interview for Vanity Fair‘s Hollywood Issue, she was asked about the response to The Idol in light of the praise she’s received for the Alexander Payne film, specifically, “Does it sting?”
Randolph responded, “No, because I know what I did, and I’m very proud of what I did in the role that I created. How people respond and people’s feelings don’t have nothing to do with me. And I don’t have anything to do with contributing to that narrative either. So I just let it go. I enjoy my contribution.”

French director Thomas Bidegain is setting the record straight about Jake Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby’s exit from his project “Suddenly.”
An interview with Bidegain that ran last week in the French magazine Technikart got international attention, with the headline “Four Days to Bury a Movie.” The interview suggested that Gyllenhaal and Kirby had left the film in the last stretch of pre-production in Iceland, which resulted in a loss of $26 million.
According to the story, Gyllenhaal dove into the freezing ocean, demanded multiple rewrites and rehearsed scenes in a mocking “Pepe Le Pew-like accent.” Though Bidegain wouldn’t address those specific claims, he tells Variety that he parted ways with Gyllenhaal and Kirby over a creative clash, rather than unprofessional behavior on Gyllenhaal’s part. He also claims that, contrary to what is suggested in the French article, the company which financed “Suddenly,” Studiocanal, didn’t lose $26 million because...

Both Geimer and Polanski were pictured smiling despite the incident from 45 years ago, and the subsequent five charges of rape by use of drugs, perversion, lewd and lascivious act upon a child under fourteen, and furnishing a controlled substance to a minor, brought against Polanski.
Geimer, who had asked a judge to drop the case against Polanski in 2017, sat down for an interview for French publication Le Point with her alleged assaulter’s wife, former model Emmanuelle Seigner.
Speaking to Seigner, Geimer explained that it was time for them to finally meet and “speak, you know, together in solidarity of adult capable women who have opinions and don’t have to fall into this...

People say never to judge a book by its cover, but when it comes to TV shows, sometimes it's just as important not to judge them by their titles. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," for example, doesn't exactly sound like the groundbreaking and celebrated hero's journey that it is. Other shows like "Selfie," "Cougar Town," and the eventually mercifully renamed "Scrotal Recall" (it's called "Lovesick" now) are also way better than their titles would lead one to believe.
The same is true of 2012's short-lived ABC comedy "Don't Trust the B----- in Apartment 23," an outrageous, surreal, fast-paced sitcom starring Krysten Ritter, Dreama Walker, James Van Der Beek, and Eric Andre. Whereas some other titles oversell the wackier aspects of the shows in question, though, "Don't Trust the B" simply can't be tamed or contained by something as simple as a title.
This show by Nahnatchka Khan is an even wilder...

ReviewIt’s refreshing to have a Kollywood film interested in the darkness in its characters rather than sticking to a conventional hero-villain formula. Unfortunately, an uneven screenplay lets ‘Selfie’ down.Bharathy SingaravelScreengrabWhat is the human cost of a scam plaguing our educational institutions – the selling off of seats to desperate students and parents? Selfie by debutant director Mathi Maran is an attempt to tell this story and tell it with heart. Gv Prakash (Gvp as he’s popularly known) leads the film as Kanal, one of the countless youngsters in real life forced into an engineering course due to family pressure rather than personal enthusiasm. While his passions lie elsewhere, a disinterested Kanal is strong-armed into joining engineering and discovers quickly to his chagrin that his father (Vaigai Chandrashekar) has landed the family in debt to pay for the seat. Toronto-based sales agent Syndicado Film Sales has acquired world rights to “Hide and Seek” (Nascondino), the debut feature from director Victoria Fiore, which will screen in the main Dox:award competition at the Copenhagen Intl. Documentary Film Festival (Cph:Dox).
The Naples-set documentary follows Entoni, a rambunctious 10-year-old, as he navigates childhood in a country where the justice system – in response to rising levels of youth criminality – allows courts to remove high-risk children from families involved in organized crime. Watching over him is his grandmother Dora, a former criminal who fears he is falling into the pattern she started and which Entoni’s imprisoned father has continued.
Produced over the course of four years, “Hide and Seek” tackles the brutality and chaos of these lives through a cinematic lens that blurs the line between truth and fiction, seamlessly blending true events, recollections and recreations.

“Rutherford Falls” co-creator Sierra Teller Ornelas has extended her overall deal with Universal Television.
The deal, which was first signed in 2019, made it so Teller Ornelas would develop and create new broadcasts across broadcast, cable and streaming. The extension continues that pact, although the studio (a division of Universal Studio Group) did not share details on the length of the extension.
“I am elated to continue this wonderful partnership with Universal Television,” said Ornelas. “Pearlena [Igbokwe], Erin [Underhill], Jim [Donnelly] and Megan [Macmillan] have all given me immense support and are honestly the most solid humans around.”
In addition to “Rutherford Falls,” which launched its first season in April on Peacock and will soon start Season 2, Ornelas is also working on Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard’s upcoming, still untitled comedy for Apple TV Plus, starring Maya Rudolph. That series is also produced by Universal Television.

Gunpowder Milkshake features an impressive cast of action women, but it’s Karen Gillan who holds the Netflix neon noir together. The actress, who first broke onto the international scene in 2010 with her introduction as Amy Pond on Doctor Who, has parlayed that fan favorite performance into an impressive Hollywood career that includes the recurring roles of Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Martha in the latest iteration of the Jumanji franchise. For the 33-year-old Scottish actress, a career in action movies wasn’t something she saw coming.

The prizes were announced – but not physically given out – during a no-frills ceremony conducted in primetime on pubcaster Rai by star host Carlo Conti in an empty studio with talents appearing in live web platform link-ups. Italy’s Kino Produzioni, which is in competition at Visions du Réel with Sicily-set “Il Mio Corpo,” has teamed up with Sweden’s Fasad on “About the End,” a timely apocalypse-themed doc.
Described in promotional materials as being “about the apocalypses that we have survived, and those that we are still waiting for,” this creative doc backed by the Sundance Institute is being prepped by Italian filmmaker and visual artist Cristina Picchi.
Picchi’s previous docs have screened in Venice, Locarno and Nyon where her “Cinetrain: Russian Winter” won a Visions du Réel audience award in 2014.

Kino is now in talks for a top Italian broadcaster to come on board “About the End” for which the original plan was to start shooting late this summer,” says Kino chief Giovanni Pompili.

Palomar Doc, which will become operational in March, will be developing and producing docs and doc series by Italian and European directors for theatrical and platform distribution with a special focus on tapping into new opportunities offered by streamers, the company said in a statement.
Romeo will be at the European Film Market in Berlin scouting for projects.
While Italy is quite active in terms of its overall docs output, the country has plenty of room for improvement when it comes to churning out high-profile docs that can travel such as Agostino Ferrente’s “Selfie” or Beniamino Barrese’s “The Disappearance of my Mother,” which Kino Lorber recently released in the U.

When then-cbs TV Studios head of drama Julie McNamara was named Evp and head of Original Content for CBS All Access in June 2016, she brought with her VP Danny Feldheim and a junior executive. The trio oversaw the streamer’s initial original slate, which consisted of three series, Star Trek: Discovery, The Good Fights and No Activity.
For most of the past three and a half years, McNamara kept a lean programming team as CBS All Access’ original lineup grew from three shows to more than 14 planned to air in 2020. And while she says that “we didn’t want it any other way,” in light of of the programming ramp-up, McNamara is expanding her Original Content team.
Feldheim and Jana Steele Helman, who joined the streamer in April, have both been elevated to Svp, Original Content. Ashley Whitaker has joined the Svod and live-streaming service as Director of Original Content...

In the Netflix film, Dolemite Is My Name, actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph steps into the role of Lady Reed, a comedian, actress and a frequent collaborator of the comedy legend Rudy Ray Moore who made some of the most memorable cult classic Dolemite films from the ’70s. Everyone knew about Moore but as for Lady Reed, there has been little to no record of the mark that she left on the industry as a woman of color. Randolph visited the New Hollywood Podcast to talk about why it was important to bring Lady Reed’s narrative to the forefront and how it is crucial to put shine on narratives — primarily of people from marginalized communities — that are seldom overlooked.

“Empire Star” Terrence Howard may be quitting acting for good.
In an interview with Extra on the set of the Fox drama, Howard told correspondent and current Miss USA Cheslie Kryst that he’s “done with acting” after “Empire” wraps production.
“Oh, I’m done with acting. I’m done pretending,” Howard told Kryst in response to a question about his next moves post-“Empire.”
When asked whether he would instead focus on philanthropic efforts, he replied, “No, not philanthropy; I’m just focusing on bringing truth to the world.”
Reps for Howard did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment Thursday.
Fox will air the sixth and final season of “Empire” on Sept. 24. But even after Howard is done playing Lucious, he still has two other projects in the works, according to his IMDb page — “Cut Throat City,” an action-drama feature directed by RZA, and an action-comedy film called “Selfie,...
