Ninety years ago that was the limit of scientific analysis. In Tennessee the Scopes trial was taking place. Don't sneer at the people of 90 years ago. Last week I read an article about an experiment that demonstrates quantum entanglement at a distance. I accept it without understanding it. I guess I have a Newtonian mind.
This short stop-motion animated short has been posted on the National Film Preservation Foundation website with a nice spooky synthesizer score by Michael Mortilla. There's no record of who did the stop-motion work, but its use was probably inspired by the success of THE LOST WORLD a few months earlier, with stop-motion work by Willis H. O'Brien. It was an era when there were serious efforts to explain science through animation. The Fleischers had turned out THE EINSTEIN THEORY OF RELATIVITY two years earlier.
Fans of animation aside, there isn't much of substance for the modern viewer in this. For those of us who enjoy stop-motion, it's a treat.
November 3, 2015: My thanks to Robert Kiss. He identifies the stop-motion work as from a German film, VOR 50 MILLIONEN JAHREN. released the previous year by Rex Films in Berlin.
