One shark movie is currently making a play at the Cannes market as it was recently reported that a third film in the 47 Meters Down series, titled 47 Meters Down: The Wreck, is launching its sales campaign. Johannes Roberts and screenwriter Ernest Riera return to co-write on that new installment, which will be directed by veteran horror director Patrick Lussier. Variety now reports on a new shark film that’s currently untitled that will be helmed by the director of the Christmas action movie Violent Night, Tommy Wirkola.
It is also being said that Phoebe Dynevor is currently in talks to star in the new shark film. Dynevor may be best recognized for her role in the first two seasons of Bridgerton as Daphne Bridgerton. She had also recently starred alongside Oppenheimer and Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s Alden Ehrenreich in the thriller Fair Play from 2023. That film...

Who has not felt the sting of a missed opportunity, especially when you have come so close to your big break? For O’Shea Jackson Jr., the brush with a galaxy far, far away was definitely a bitter pill to swallow—one that the fandom of both Star Wars and the actor can empathize with.
Rising to fame as an actor in F. Gary Gray’s 2015 biopic film, Straight Outta Compton, Jackson Jr.’s talent has been evident. Earlier this year, moreover, his candidness about the disappointment of losing a coveted role in Ron Howard’s 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story to Donald Glover was as relatable as it was commendable.

Opening up about the intense audition process, Jackson Jr. reflected on his confidence after multiple auditions for the role of Lando Calrissian, only to experience a letdown when Glover was cast.

George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise features several iconic villains, including Darth Vader, whose presence was integral to the success of the original trilogy of films. As a result, when Lucas decided to work on the prequel trilogy, he wanted to create an antagonistic force that could rival the on-screen presence of Vader.
Darth Maul was first introduced in 1999’s The Phantom Menace.
As a result, Lucas created the fan-favorite character of Darth Maul, who was introduced in the first prequel trilogy film. However, Maul was killed off unceremoniously at the end of the film. Nonetheless, Lucas eventually regretted the decision to kill off such a beloved and fascinating character. Here is what George Lucas has said about Darth Maul’s creation and the decision to kill him off.

Although Taylor Sheridan now commands the television industry as a one-man army, who reinvented himself as a screenwriter and director, he initially began his career as an actor. Appearing in television series like Sons of Anarchy, Sheridan gradually transitioned to screenwriting and penned critically acclaimed hits like Sicario, Wind River, and more.

The much-derided film returns to cinemas for its 25th anniversary. Once a rare blot on the galactic landscape, these days it’s far from the only stinker in the canon
Can it really be that there are Star Wars fans who see George Lucas’s Episode I – The Phantom Menace, once considered the emblem of everything that went wrong with the long-running space saga, as a bona fide classic ripe for rehabilitation 25 years on? As the much-derided 1999 film returns to cinemas this weekend, there are rumblings in the ether that millennials, and perhaps those even younger, are completely unaware of just how much of a disaster it was. Then again, perhaps those of us who remember its debut in cinemas should be prepared to listen to voices from a new generation. Was it really so bad after all?

Emilia Clarke is effortlessly one of the most beloved actresses in Hollywood, with her acting chops, beauty, wit, and personality — all leaving her audiences truly stunned. Among all the roles she has donned to date across multiple genres, her most acclaimed performance still remains her iconic portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, which also gifted her most of her fame.
Emilia Clarke in Secret Invasion.
However, even after achieving that impeccable feat through the novels-based television series, Clarke was quite a bit dissatisfied with it for a peculiar reason. And, surprisingly enough, this reason wasn’t related to the controversial ending of the series — which notably saw her character getting murdered at the hands of her very own lover, Jon Snow — but for another reason entirely.

Fortnite‘s roster of crossover characters already comprises lots of well-known figures from the Star Wars universe. Fans of the mega-popular battle royale can play as characters like Anakin Skywalker, Darth Vader, Ahsoka Tano, and many more by way of previous collaborations.
However, Epic is gearing up for the game’s biggest Star Wars update yet, which is slated to release on May 3. Huge as the update may be, the recent announcement of a certain character has incited lukewarm reactions from fans: Lando Calrissian.

‘Unsung Hero’ Review: The Family That Prays Together, Plays Together in Uplifting Faith-Based Biopic
The heartrending hook behind “Unsung Hero” isn’t solely discovering how one tight knit family birthed two chart-topping contemporary Christian musical acts, although that is an interesting draw. It’s not necessarily learning how the Aussie expats survived a slew of hardships through togetherness and fortitude. The fascinating angle it adopts is similar to the way Steven Spielberg explored a tumultuous time in his childhood with “The Fablemans,” as Joel Smallbone (who co-wrote and directed with Richard L. Ramsey) also engages with family history, portraying his father grappling with financial and personal crises. The co-directors re-contextualize character-building circumstances, crafting a soul-stirring testament to the power of family and faith in the process.
David Smallbone (Joel Smallbone) is at the top of his game in early 1991. He’s got a great support system at work as one of Australia’s top Christian artist concert promoters, luring in such performers as the heavy metal hair band Stryper.

Despite all the changes and shifts that happened in Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy has managed to “survive” as the president of the company and she is still running the Star Wars franchise in collaboration with Disney, despite many negative comments on her work, as well as some of the recent Star Wars projects. And while Kennedy is certainly responsible for a lot of the franchise’s successes, she has also been blamed for a lot of the failures.
Kennedy is known for voicing her opinion, and her opinions have often been subject to criticism as well, but this has not stopped her from speaking out. Not so long ago, the president of Lucasfilm talked about the issue of recasting popular roles, and from what we can understand, she is not a big fan of the practice.

Not everyone anticipated that George Lucas’ space opera, which tells the story of characters’ adventures from ‘A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away’, would even be a hit before it was released in 1977. Significantly, even after more than 40 years, Star Wars would continue to rank among the most celebrated franchises in popular culture.
For a long time, fans have been enthralled by Star Wars movies; nevertheless, not every flick in the franchise has been well-received by critics or has done well at the box office. There have been highs and lows, which is pretty much inevitable, even though the best of the movies are undeniably classics.

Young actor and musician Donald Glover, also known by his musician stage name Childish Gambino, is one of the most prominent names of Hollywood’s younger (not youngest!) generation. The actor and musician made his career in 30 Rock when he was just 23, after which he had successful appearances in the Community and Atlanta. He also appeared in several movies, including The Lazarus Effect, Magic Mike Xxl, The Martian, as well as Solo: A Star Wars Story, where he played the young Lando Calrissian.
Aside from his personal appearances, Glover has done a lot of voice work as well, including voicing Simba in the CGI version of The Lion King. He also appeared as Aaron Davis (Uncle Aaron) in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse; reprising his live-action cameo from the Spider-Man: Homecoming, although it was a minor live-action role in both of these movies.

Star Wars Outlaws has the potential of being the greatest game set in a galaxy far, far away and Ubisoft is making great use of existing branches of storylines and characters that would later play out in the game. Disney's theme parks launched new experiences for their original "Star Wars" ride this week. Star Tours: The Adventures Continue is the second iteration of the attraction that originally opened at Disneyland Park in 1987. The first version of the ride was a consistent experience that put audiences inside a motion-simulated ship piloted by a droid voiced by Paul Reubens. The ride took park-goers right into the middle of a Death Star attack and was unlike anything anyone had ever seen. An ever-popular attraction, it was updated in May of 2011 to its current iteration. Instead of a single movie ride, new technology allowed Lucasfilm and Disney Imagineers to randomize the process. Now, with the updated system, your voyages could be randomized and it was easy for new updates to be made.

Spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" Season 3 Episode 12 "Juggernaut" follow.
The third and final season of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" moves on, this time bringing us back to the original status quo of the season. In the epic previous episode, Omega sacrificed herself to prevent the utter destruction of their paradise refuge of Pabu, and the Empire takes her right back to Mount Tantiss. Desperate to find Omega and stop the Empire's experiments once and for all, the Bad Batch looks for any lead they can in order to find the location of the secret facility.
That brings them back to Admiral Rampart, who was arrested in earlier seasons as a scapegoat for the genocidal destruction of Kamino. He was sent to an Imperial labor camp, which offers a pretty neat, direct tie to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

This post contains minor spoilers for "Solo: A Star Wars Story."
Every "Star Wars" fan knows about Han Solo's not-so-humble boast about the Millenium Falcon, a ship that purportedly "made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs." Although this sounds cool, it is a rather vague descriptor that is challenging to visualize. After all, a parsec is a unit of distance, not time, where one parsec is roughly equivalent to 3.26 light years. Even without diving into the scientific nuances of the concept, it is understandable why Solo's claims became a topic for debate and discussion, giving rise to fascinating theories over the years. However, "Solo: A Star Wars Story" effectively answers all our questions about the Kessen Run discourse by approaching Han's boast in ways that are interesting and grounded in practicality.

Remember "Solo: A Star Wars Story"? Sure you do! It was the second "Star Wars" anthology film — that is, a film set outside the main "Star Wars" Skywalker Saga timeline — following "Rogue One," and its less-than-great reception essentially killed off the idea of Disney doing new anthology films. Instead, the studio stuck with finishing out the Skywalker Saga in a disappointing fashion and then shifted to a bevy of Disney+ shows (some of which are soon to make the jump from the small to the big screen).

After a triumphant time in the 2010s, things are uncertain at the Walt Disney Company right now. With audience interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe fading and "Star Wars" having become a primarily streaming franchise, there's a feeling that the company may have carelessly set fire to its money trees.
Disney's changing leadership suggests it won't be staying the course. In 2022, former Disney CEO Bob Iger resumed his post from Bob Chapek, a simultaneous vote of no confidence in his successor yet a stamp of approval for Iger's own tenure (he first served as Disney CEO from 2005 to 2020). Since his return, Iger has implicitly criticized Chapek's decision to go all-in on Disney+ originals, spreading the company's main offerings (Marvel and Pixar especially) too thin.
Another shake-up happened in February 2024, when Sean Bailey stepped down as president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production. His successor, David Greenbaum (formerly of Searchlight Pictures...

Star Wars fans haven’t seen Lando Calrissian – that is, the Billy Dee Williams version – on the big screen in five years. But will we ever again? With so many Star Wars projects on the horizon, it’s possible that Lando could turn up in some corner of the galaxy…But would Williams ever don the cape again? Sure – provided you show him the dough.
As Billy Dee Williams told Radio Times on any potential return to the character, “Pay me a lot of money and I’ll sell my soul.” As portrayed by Williams, Lando Calrissian first appeared in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, a former friend of Han Solo’s and one-time owner of the Millennium Falcon, the lore of which would be explored later in the Star Wars saga. Williams would return as Lando for 1983’s Return of the Jedi but wouldn’t reprise the character again – in the flesh,...

Billy Dee Williams had lunch with his 'Star Wars' successor Donald Glover and told him to "be charming" when playing Lando Calrissian. The 86-year-old actor originated the role of the smooth-talking smuggler in 'The Empire Strikes Back' and reprised the role in follow-up film 'Return of the Jedi' while Glover took over the role in spin-off film 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' and will be back as Landro in a new movie based around the character. Now Billy has revealed the pair sat down together over lunch to discuss Lando, telling Radio Times: "I had a nice little lunch with him. He’s a delightful young man. Extremely talented."But I don’t see him … I mean, when it comes to Lando Calrissian there’s only one Lando Calrissian. I created that character."When asked what advice he gave to his young successor,...

Billy Dee Williams originated the Lando Calrissian character in the Star Wars universe and would not mind reprising the role in future projects if they make a good monetary offer.
In a recent interview, the actor who first played Lando in the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back is opening up about what it would take for him to return to a galaxy far, far away.
“Pay me a lot of money, and I’ll sell my soul,” Williams told Radio Times magazine about portraying Lando again.
Williams reprised the Lando role in 1983’s Return of the Jedi and most recently in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. A younger version of the character appeared in the prequel Solo: A Star Wars Story, with Donald Glover taking on the role.
“He’s part of a whole new generation. He’ll create whatever he needs to create, to bring appeal to the character.

Billy Dee Williams, the star who played Lando Calrissian in the original Star Wars flicks. Well, it turns out he wasn’t exactly thrilled about Donald Glover snagging the role of a younger Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The 86-year-old wasn’t feeling the direction they were taking the character or Glover’s portrayal of him.

Christopher Walken can currently be seen as the Emperor of the Known Universe in "Dune: Part Two," but once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away, the quirky actor had a chance to appear in another huge sci-fi epic. As Walken himself recently told Vanity Fair, he auditioned for the role of Han Solo in the first "Star Wars" film, aka "Star Wars: A New Hope." Of course, Walken didn't get the part — and it's hard to imagine anyone other than Harrison Ford playing the loveable rogue.
To hear Walken tell it, he auditioned for the part along with a wealth of other actors, so it's not clear how close he came to actually landing the role of Han Solo. In other words, lots of people were being considered for the film, and Walken was just one name of many on a list of auditioning actors. But interestingly enough,...

Billy Dee Williams’s Lando Calrissian is iconic, to say the least. The actor brought a level of flair and charm to the smuggler, playing the role many times in the Star Wars franchise. While there is no way to replicate how iconic his performance was, Donald Glover managed to add his own essence to the character when he played a younger version of him in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

While the 2018 film did not do that well with audiences, Calrissian’s character came out soaring and Glover managed to bag a solo project. Since then, however, there have been many speedbumps that have hampered its production. That was, until now.

Star Wars‘ is truly trailblazing in visual sense, but John Williams’ music for Episode IV: A New Hope marked the beginning of something fresh. The legendary composer has created music for the adventures of dinosaur-filled islands (Jurassic Park), the intense realities of war (Saving Private Ryan), and the magical realms of wizards (Harry Potter) but nothing compares to his music for epic space battles (Star Wars).
Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew, and Derek Lyons in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
Williams was requested to compose music for a film that would forever alter the landscape of filmmaking. The skilled composer matched director George Lucas’ vision with an opening theme that perfectly set the tone, grabbing viewers’ attention right from the start. But he would have almost made the same mistake as many Star Wars fans in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

Before Samuel L. Jackson became synonymous with the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to his decades-long role as Nick Fury, it was “Star Wars” that was the first Hollywood mega-franchise to open its doors for the beloved actor. Jackson played Jedi master Mace Windu in George Lucas’ “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, and it’s a role he appears quite eager to play again despite Mace being killed off in 2015’s “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” after Anakin severs his hand with a lightsaber, and Emperor Palpatine electrocutes him and sends him flying out of a building window.
Not so fast. During an interview with Empire Magazine, Jackson had this to say about Mace’s fate: “He’S Not Dead!!!” When the subject of Mace being brought back for his own Disney+ series came up, Jackson was asked what he would want to see in such a project.

It’s a twist both title characters of the new Amazon Prime Video series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” might love. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” co-creator, writer, director, and star Donald Glover invoked the end of a marriage to describe his creative split from one-time “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge – months after Waller-Bridge similarly compared the dissolution of their relationship to a failed romantic union.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars -- The High Republic: Escape From Valo."
"Escape From Valo" is the latest novelized "Star Wars" offering in the era of "The High Republic." Written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong, it follows the Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram (previously seen in books like "The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower" and "The High Republic: The Rising Storm") as he finds himself deep inside the Nihil Occlusion Zone, trapped on the planet Valo. Valo was the site of the Republic Fair -- sort of an intergalactic World's Fair -- and a brutal attack by the Nihil.
For those not up to date on the High Republic Era, the Nihil is a brutal band of pirates that uses secret paths in hyperspace lanes to maraud the Republic. After causing a massive calamity in hyperspace, they drew the attention of the Jedi, who became their sworn enemies.

The original 1977 "Star Wars" is a miracle of a film. George Lucas' blockbuster could have gone wrong at any moment for a variety of reasons, yet it not only got made and released but became a monumental success (spawning one of the biggest movie franchises ever). Part of why the film and its first two sequels remain so impressive all these decades later is their simple story, vast worldbuilding, groundbreaking special effects, and impeccable casting of mostly little-known actors who would go on to become huge after the films hit theaters.
That sentiment extends to the greater franchise, which has launched several careers and given small roles to actors who would eventually break out in a big way. That's not to say the original "Star Wars" didn't feature any famous actors at the time, of course, be it Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing in the original trilogy, or Samuel L Jackson,...

It's been nearly 20 years since Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie lit up the screen as John and Jane Smith, a longtime couple whose love life has lost its fizzle when they discover they're both secretly spies/assassins from rival agencies that have been tasked with killing the other. Wisely, rather than trying to bottle sexy lightning twice, the creatives behind the upcoming "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" TV show have opted for an entirely different approach to the original.

The future of "Star Wars" recently came into focus as Disney and Lucasfilm announced the movie that will welcome a galaxy far, far away back to the big screen. Oddly enough, it's going to be centered on the characters that have helped anchor "Star Wars" on the small screen since 2019. "The Mandalorian & Grogu" will be directed by Jon Favreau, with the film set to go into production in 2024. Indeed, it will be Mando and the one they call Baby Yoda who will help bring the franchise back to theaters after years away. One big question now looms very large: Will a TV show turned into a movie translate to meaningful box office dollars?
There are far too many unknowns right now to accurately predict this movie's commercial performance, but there are some key things we do know. For one, "The Mandalorian" has been extremely popular, with Pedra Pascal's Din Djarin...

Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Db Weiss have revealed that their cancelled Star Wars film was an origin story called The First Jedi.
In 2018, when the clamour surrounding Game Of Thrones was still near its peak, showrunners David Benioff and Db Weiss were revealed to have struck a deal with Lucasfilm to make a Star Wars movie – the first in a potential trilogy. The plan was that they’d embark on their space-fantasy after the eighth and final season of Game Of Thrones aired the following year.
Needless to say, Benioff and Weiss’ Star Wars film didn’t happen. Years later, though, the usually media-shy creative duo have talked to The Hollywood Reporter about the concept they pitched to Lucasfilm – it would, in essence, have been yet another prequel, but one that would have taken us back thousands of years in Star Wars lore to the birth of the Jedi Order itself.

While the 2020s have been a verifiable graveyard for potential Star Wars films that never made it beyond the development stage, directors passing through without seeing their ideas come to fruition isn’t exactly a new phenomenon over at Lucasfilm.
Even before Disney took the reins of the studio, the galaxy far, far away saw a wide variety of potential directors enter its orbit over the years. From Return of the Jedi to the present day, there are quite a few well-known directors who came close to making their mark on this universe but for one reason or other never actually hit lightspeed.
Here are the many directors who almost made Star Wars movies…
David Lynch – Return of the Jedi

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is a two-time Oscar winner and the first female director of a Star Wars film.
Having an iconic franchise in her hands thrills the filmmaker as she says it was “about time” a woman took the reigns of a project in the Star Wars universe.
“I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special,” Obaid-Chinoy told CNN. “We’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”
George Lucas created Star Wars, with the first film released in 1977. Following Lucas, only male directors have helmed the franchise, like Irvin Kershner, Richard Marquand and J.J. Abrams. Standalone movies in the same universe have also been directed by men like Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Ron Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Parts of the "Star Wars" universe have always been steeped in darkness. Entire galaxy systems succumbed to the tyranny of a fascist superstructure, which brought unimaginable horror along with it. Although "Star Wars" has never technically fit the horror mold — it is primarily a samurai-styled sci-fi adventure that oscillates between being inspiring and darkly moody — however, some aspects of the franchise's lore are downright chilling. Examples include Imperial torture methods that are pretty inhumane, such as It-o Interrogator droids used to inflict unimaginable pain on prisoners, or New Republic-backed devices such as the Mind Flayer, repurposed by the regime from old Imperial torture models.
Perhaps the most disturbing part of these darker lore aspects is The Decraniated, who were incorporated in canon to flesh out the worldbuilding in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and "Solo: A Star Wars Story." The Decraniated were creations of the Alsakan-based surgeon, Dr. Cornelius Evazan,...
