While family animal funerary firm "Samtpfoten-Trauer" buries a golden retriever, their own 'artistic' employee Erika Kühnle's corpse is found in the casket, which wasn't meant to be open. The stylist was a cousin of manager Brigitte Huber, who runs its since widowed with adult kids Jan and Daniela. The team learns about fraudulent practices from a disgruntled client and Erika's friend Karl Marsmann. Pet dissection also puts them on the trail of suspiciously frequent pet deaths by rat poison.
