Netflix is ready to tee off with Will Ferrell.
In his first scripted TV comedy series, Ferrell will star in a scripted comedy series titled Golf. The streamer has picked up 10 episodes of the series, which is co-created by Ferrell, Ramy Youssef — who will also have an onscreen role — and Josh Rabinowitz (Babes, Ramy, The Carmichael Show).
In Golf, Ferrell will play a fictional golf legend. Details on Youssef’s part are being kept under wraps though sources say the show isn’t a two-hander. (Netflix also stresses that Golf should be capitalized, though it’s unclear if it’s an acronym.)
Youssef and Rabinowitz, who previously teamed for Hulu’s critically praised comedy Ramy, will serve as showrunners and exec produce Golf alongside Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rian Johnson (Peacock’s Poker Face), Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue will exec produce for T-Street,...

Welcome to It’s a Hit! In this series, IndieWire speaks to creators and showrunners behind a few of our favorite television programs about the moment they realized their show was breaking big.
Ten weeks deep and “Palm Royale” showrunner Abe Sylvia is still processing the success of his shimmering spring TV hit.
“I certainly live in an echo chamber on social media, so I’m seeing lots of ways in which it infiltrated culture,” the executive producer told IndieWire. “But I felt like we really crossed over when I saw that Ramona Singer from ‘Real Housewives’ was dressed for a ‘Palm Royale’-themed cocktail party. That’s when I went, ‘Uh-oh, something has changed here. Something has shifted.'”

Exclusive: Kevin Alves (Yellowjackets) has landed a recurring role in Netflix’s eight-episode comedy series No Good Deed from creator Liz Feldman (Dead to Me), Deadline has learned.
The actor plays Nate, the strait-laced, hard-edged son of Mikey (Denis Leary), with whom he has a strained relationship. As previously announced, Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow lead the cast, which also includes Linda Cardellini, Luke Wilson, Abbi Jacobson, Poppy Liu, Leary and O-t Fagbenle.

Feldman serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez Productions, Christie Smith, and Silver Tree, who will direct the pilot and additional episodes.

Striking a tonal balance between drama and comedy can be difficult. It’s even harder when the series must adhere to a specific place and time. Yet Palm Royale, which debuts on March 20th on Apple TV+, makes a strong play for the Mad Men demographic. Equal parts stylish, melodramatic, and witty, there’s a lot to like about Palm Royale. However, even with one of the greatest casts ever assembled for a television show on paper, one cannot help but feel disappointed. There are fun performances, but its premise and story feel antiquated in 2024.

When you begin watching Palm Royale on Apple TV+ tomorrow, you'll be whisked back to the lively and colorful Palm Beach of the late 1960s courtesy of Abe Sylvia, whose creative mind brought it all together.
Sylvia created, writes, and directs Palm Royale, which almost defies genres. It's a comedic period piece starring Kristen Wiig as Maxine Simmons, a woman who takes her future into her own hands, desperate to cross the line between the haves and have-nots.
As Maxine brings her daring plan to extraordinary life, she discovers that the lives she wants to crash aren't all they're cracked up to be.
Sylvia has an unusual heroine in Maxine, who is as aggravating as she is understandable, and he's ensconced her in high society with many vibrant and sly women and men eager to both embrace Maxine and hold her at a distance, depending on their needs at the moment.

There are so many fabulous women wearing so many fabulous ‘60s outfits in Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, it’s like a Ryan Murphy fever dream. A cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, Laura Dern and Carol Burnett is undeniably tantalizing, but Palm Royale — debuting this Wednesday on the streamer; I’ve seen the first three episodes — never lives up to its stellar cast. Campy and overbaked, it manages to fall between the cracks of the dramedy genre: not funny enough to be a comedy and not compelling enough to be a drama. But the clothes do look great,...

Applegate, 52, and Sigler, 42, spoke with Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts about their Ms diagnoses and living with the incurable disease in a segment that aired Wednesday morning. Applegate initially decided to get checked for Ms when she noticed her toes tingling while filming the Netflix series’ final season and was diagnosed in 2021. But she revealed to Roberts that the symptoms were there for years.

Christina Applegate revealed she was likely living with multiple sclerosis for years before she was diagnosed in a new interview with Good Morning America. The segment marked the actress’ first time talking about the autoimmune disease on TV since she was diagnosed in 2021.
“I probably had it for six or seven years, I think,” Applegate said. “I noticed, especially the first season [of the Netflix series Dead to Me], we’d be shooting, and my leg would buckle. I really just put it off as being tired, or I’m dehydrated, or it’s the weather.

Christina Applegate is opening up about living with multiple sclerosis on “Good Morning America” in her first on-camera sit-down interview following her 2021 diagnosis.
“I live kind of in hell,” Applegate told host Robin Roberts. “I’m not out a lot, so this is a little difficult, just for my system. But of course, the support is wonderful and I’m really grateful.”
Applegate participated in the interview — which aired in full on Wednesday — alongside “The Sopranos” star Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who has been living with Ms since she was 20 years old. The two were promoting their new podcast, “MeSsy,” which debuts March 19.
“I’m never going to wake up and go, ‘This is awesome.’ I’m just going to tell you that. Like, it’s not going to happen,” she continued. “I wake up and I’m reminded of it every day … But I might get to a place where I function a little bit better.

Recalling the moment on GMA, the Dead to Me star said, “I actually kind of blacked out. And people said, ‘Oh, you’re so funny,’ and I don’t even know what I said. Like, I don’t know what I was doing. I got so freaked out that I didn’t even know what was happening anymore.” Despite her bewilderment, Applegate added, “I felt really beloved, and it was really a beautiful thing,...

The allegedly toxic environment behind Dan Schneider’s Nickelodeon empire is now being uncovered in a four-part docuseries.
Amid allegations of abuse, Schneider’s legacy as the showrunner of hit series like “All That,” “iCarly,” and “Zoey 101” is being reframed. The ID documentary “Quiet on Set” exposes the dangerous culture behind some of the most iconic children’s shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

If there is something positive about the existence of streaming platforms in recent times, it's the explosion of quality television series that we haven't experienced for several decades. There is something for everyone, even for TV sceptics who are not easily convinced to step out of the cinema or from what they concern as a serious screening content. Almost four years ago, during the Mastercard event at the Venice Film Festival, Brian de Palma confessed that he was hooked to the comedy-drama series “Dead To Me” starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, admitting that he was watching television more than ever before due to a big improvement in quality of productions. Liz Feldman wasn't in the audience, but I was, glad to hear that such a legend and I are sharing the same passion for the show.
