Kat Dennings is eyeing a return to broadcast television. The 2 Broke Girls star has been cast opposite fellow sitcom vet Tim Allen in the ABC comedy pilot Shifting Gears, Deadline reports.
As previously reported, the network responsible for Home Improvement and Last Man Standing is behind Shifting Gears. The potential multi-cam centers on Allen’s Matt, “the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,” according to the official logline. “When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”

As this slow broadcast network pilot season continues, ABC has ordered its second comedy pilot of the year: “Forgive and Forget,” a multi-camera comedy set to star Emmy-winning “Modern Family” alum Ty Burrell.
Burrell is also on board as an executive producer (through his Desert Whale Prods. shingle) on “Forgive and Forget,” while Eugene Garcia-Cross is writer/exec producer and Robin Shorr is on board as showrunner and exec producer. 20th Television is behind the project, which stars Burrell as Hank, a perennial “life of the party.” According to the logline, Hank gets an unexpected diagnosis, leading him to reconnect with his responsible adult son Ben.
ABC has also ordered the comedy pilot “Shifting Gears,” starring Tim Allen, for this season. That means both of the network’s comedy pilots are multi-camera sitcoms from 20th TV starring veteran ABC stars.

Ty Burrell is returning to ABC.
The two-time Emmy-winning Modern Family star has been tapped to star in Forgive and Forget, a multicamera comedy that has been ordered to pilot at the Disney-owned broadcast network.
From writer Eugene Garcia-Cross (The Santa Clauses, Peacock’s Punky Brewster), Forgive and Forget revolves around Hank (Burrell), the perennial life of the party, who, after an unexpected diagnosis, reconnects with his responsible adult son Ben in hopes of making new memories together.
Garcia-Cross, a 2018 graduate of NBC’s Writers on the Verge program, will also exec produce alongside Robin Shorr (Diary of a Future President, The Carmichael Show, Galavant, The Middle), who will serve as showrunner on the potential series. Burrell will also executive produce via his Desert Whale Productions banner. Forgive and Forget is produced by Disney’s 20th Television, the same studio that delivered mega-hit Modern Family.

Tim Allen is one step closer to returning to ABC for a third time. The Alphabet net has given a pilot order to his latest sitcom, “Shifting Gears,” from 20th Television. Allen is on board to star and executive produce the multi-cam sitcom pilot — which is still a working title — which will also be written and executive produced by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully.
In the project, Allen plays Matt, the “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina are the non-writing exec producers on the show.
“Shifting Gears” continues Allen’s long association with ABC and Disney, including the long-running hit (1991-1997) “Home Improvement.” Allen later starred on ABC’s “Last Man Standing,” which aired on the Alphabet web from 2011 to...

Lee and Aseem Batra, who got her writing start on Lawrence’s Scrubs, serve as co-showrunners of Unsettling; which the two executive produce with Glaser as well as Doozer’s Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.

After three years of anticipation and two renewals for extra seasons before audiences even got to see the show, Dan Harmon’s adult animated comedy “Krapopolis” finally arrived with two episodes on Fox on Sunday night, bringing a solid audience with it.
An average 3.6 million viewers tuned in to the first episode of “Krapopolis” on Sunday night, according to Live + Same Day data from Nielsen. Titled “All Hail the Goddess of Likability!,” the premiere scored an impressive 1.2 rating among adults aged 18-49.
As is typical, viewership dropped with Episode 2 of “Krapopolis,” which aired directly afterwards. Titled “The Stuperbowl,” the episode drew 1.8 million viewers on average, and a 0.5 among adults 18-49.
The “Krapopolis” premiere benefitted from airing directly after Fox’s telecast of the Kansas City Chiefs-Chicago Bears game. NFL games always offer significant boosts to the programming that succeeds them, and Sunday’s game provided particularly buzzy lead-in:...

Reviewing an animated comedy based on only a few initial episodes is a herculean task — you know, by TV critic standards. There’s so much to set up and so little room for experimentation. Audiences need to understand the rules of the narrative, while also receive reasons this new show is special. Pile on the typical constraints of broadcast television — 22 minute episodes, broad accessibility, etc. — and suddenly, three entire episodes fly by within the span of an hour, and it can feel like you’ve barely scratched the surface of the show’s true self.
Knowing how hard it is to gauge success after seeing three full episodes of “Krapopolis,” it’s hard for me to imagine how Fox executives already ordered three full seasons of it. Perhaps it’s best to start at the beginning: In early 2021, “Community” and “Rick & Morty” creator Dan Harmon signed on to create...

It feels like we’ve been hearing about Krapopolis since the days of ancient Greece, doesn’t it? Fox first ordered the animated comedy from Dan Harmon more than three years ago, and after multiple delays, it’s now quite possibly the only TV show ever to have been renewed for three seasons before even airing a single episode. So now that it’s finally arrived, was it worth the wait? Actually, to my pleasant surprise, it was. Krapopolis — debuting this Sunday, Sept. 24 at 8/7c; I’ve seen the first three episodes — is a very worthy occupant of Fox’s vaunted Sunday night animation block,...

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. Seeking her third victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

Audacy’s Cadence13 Studios today announced a partnership with Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning writer, actress, producer and director Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions – the production company behind hit shows including Russian Doll, Broad City and Harlem – for a 30-episode comedy franchise featuring stories that parody and pay homage to popular themes in the podcast space.
The franchise will be broken out into three seasons of 10 episodes. Each will focus on a central character and distinct theme; however, characters will make crossover appearances across stories and seasons.
The first installment in the partnership, Say More with Dr? Sheila, is slated to launch later this year. The 10-episode season stars Poehler as Dr? Sheila, a fictional therapist with questionable methods and credentials counseling a new couple every week. Amy Poehler knows she probably won’t make everyone laugh. However, the comedian who became famous for her stint on Saturday Night Live has struck the funny bone of a significant fan base. She’s proven her mettle across various TV shows and movies and racked up a slew of punch lines along the way.
Poehler doesn’t show any signs of slowing, though she’s traded some of her work in front of the camera for producing and directing. For Poehler, comedy is an “art form,” and she welcomes chances to analyze and debate its role in culture — even when it can land comedians in hot water.

Fox Orders Animated Series ‘Universal Basic Guys/The Hoagie Bros’ From Adam & Craig Malamut, Sony TV
Fox is drawing up its latest animated order.
The network has ordered animated comedy Universal Basic Guys/The Hoagie Bros. (w/t) to series. It comes from creators Adam and Craig Malamut and Sony Pictures Television.
The series is described as a show “about men trying to find purpose in a world where they’re no longer needed.”
It follows brothers Mark and Hank Hoagies, who suddenly find themselves with no jobs when the Glantontown Hot Dog factory switches over to automation. Now, Mark, Hank and the rest of their local buddies once again are kids in the summertime, overflowing with the perilous combo of free time and stupid ideas.
Adam and Craig Malamut, brothers from South Jersey, are self-taught animators who write, direct, voice act, sound edit and compose music.

Spooky Season is in session on Hulu, as the streaming service is adding a ton of horror-themed content this month. But not to worry, there’s plenty of other non-spooky new movies and shows to watch, too.
In the horror realm, director David Bruckner’s new (and well-received) take on “Hellraiser” arrives on Oct. 7, while horror films ranging from “Annabelle: Creation” to “The ABCs of Death” to “Monster House” to “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” arrive throughout the month.
In decidedly non-scary new arrivals, the entire series of “Schitt’s Creek” comes to Hulu on Oct. 3 after streaming on Netflix for the last few years, while the Hulu original film “Rosaline” – which tells the “Romeo and Juliet” story from a different point of view – streams on Oct. 14.
Other noteworthy library titles include Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch” on Oct. 25 and David Cronenberg’s “Crimes of the Future” on Oct. 31.

Amy Poehler‘s animated comedy Duncanville is coming to a close after three seasons as Fox has decided to cancel the series. As reported by TVLine, the remaining six episodes of the third season will stream exclusively on Hulu later this year. The series, which launched in February 2020, was quickly renewed for a second season just two months after its premiere. A third season was picked up last year and premiered this May. However, the ratings are down 25 percent from Season 2, and it has become the least viewed show on Fox this past TV season. The series was co-created by Poehler, Mike Scully, and Julie Thacker Scully and revolved around Duncan Harris (voiced by Poehler), an average 15-year-old boy who is always one step away from making a good decision. Poehler also voiced Duncan’s meter maid mom Annie, while Ty Burrell played Duncan’s plumber dad Jack, Riki Lindhome voiced angsty sister Kimberly,...

Since 1979, the TV academy has honored the field of animation by awarding the Best Animated Program Emmy on an annual basis. In its current form, this primetime category allows submissions targeted at audiences aged 13 and above, with series and specials made for younger viewers being relegated to the Children’s and Family Emmys. Since the creation of a separate short form category in 2008, submissions here have also been required to have runtimes in excess of 15 minutes.
The 2022 Best Animated Program ballot list below consists of 42 entries. Per category rules, all are either one-off specials or single episodes of continuing series. Seeking their dozenth victory and first since 2019 is the team behind “The Simpsons,” who just wrapped their 33rd season. Other shows hoping for repeat wins this year include “Archer,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Rick and Morty,” and “South Park.”

Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) made history as the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.

There’s very little Amy Poehler can’t do. She serves as an executive producer on four projects currently on the air, including Emmy contenders “Russian Doll” and “Making It,” which she also co-hosts. She also voices two leading characters on Fox’s animated series “Duncanville,” which she co-created.

April showers gave way to May flowers, and April meetings among network executives led to the cancellations and renewals of existing broadcast series. Of course, there were plenty of nail-biter decisions made in May regarding CBS’, NBC’s, Fox’s, ABC’s, and The CW’s slate.
Find all of the cancels and renewals below. We should note here that not every cancelled TV show goes away on bad terms: Among the 20-something or so series we won’t be seeing again in the 2022-23 season, there were a few preplanned decisions — like the ending of NBC’s “This Is Us” and ABC’s “Black-ish” — that got mixed in.
You’ll notice we only focused on scripted series here. Sans a handful of perennial reality standouts like CBS’ “Survivor,” which has been officially renewed for Season 43, unscripted programming kind of does its own thing on its own schedule. Yeah, the...

Fox is the last of the big five networks to wrap up its renewal process for the fall season, and it looks like the network still isn't done quite yet. The fate of several shows still hung in the balance ahead of industry upfronts today, but the network has now announced the renewal of almost all of them.
All of the network's longest-running animated shows, including "Family Guy," "Bob's Burgers," and "The Simpsons" have officially been renewed. They'll be joined in the fall by returning animated sitcoms "The Great North" and "Housebroken," while Amy Poehler's "Duncanville," now in its third...

There were a number of winners at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, ranging from Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo and Ye, but the annual ceremony couldn’t quite take home any primetime prizes on Sunday.
Per fast affiliates, the 2022 Billboard Music Awards delivered an average 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.11 million viewers across its three-hour broadcast on NBC, slipping even lower from the previous year’s fast affiliates. Sunday’s awards ceremony, set at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, saw Rodrigo take home seven wins, Ye come in second place with six awards and Drake continue his streak as the artist with the most Billboard Music Awards of all-time. See the full winners list here.

In the latest TV ratings, ABC’s The Rookie closed out its fourth season — and paid off, to an extent, its latest Chen/Bradford tease — with 3.5 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating, dipping week-to-week and matching its demo low (last hit on Jan. 30).

Well, this is a surprising turn of events.
Fox is going into its upfronts on Monday, with two of its most popular shows up in the air.
The network has renewed 9-1-1 Lone Star, Call Me Kat, Welcome to Flatch, and The Masked Singer for additional seasons.
The Resident, 9-1-1, and Duncanville have yet to formally land a pickup.
“We’re in good faith negotiations with [studio] 20th,” Fox president Charlie Collier told reporters Monday.
“Based on our long history with that company, we think we’re in pretty good shape.”
The renewals are coming down to the wire, meaning that we will get a decision at some point today.
This is a shocking turn of events that will leaves fans waiting with bated breaths for a potential pickup for the shows.
9-1-1 is the network's #1 scripted series, so the series has been a slam dunk for renewal all season long.

Fox will continue to build its Bento Box Entertainment portfolio with three animated movies exclusive to Tubi, its ad-supported streaming service.
Revealed as part of the network’s Upfronts presentation on Monday, Fox shared that Bento Box’s Pastacolypse, Millenial Hunter and Big Bruh will come to Tubi during the upcoming season. The trio of original movies will add to the handful of Bento Box titles already under Fox, including Bob’s Burgers, Duncanville, The Great North and Housebroken – a number of which will return for the broadcaster’s 2022-2023 season.
The first of the original animated movie trio for Tubi is Pastacolypse from Aqua Teen Hunger Force co-creator Matthew Maiellaro. Pastacolypse is a father-daughter survivalist horror comedy, cooked up from the most ludicrous premise on Earth: a billionaire celebrity chef seeks revenge on all mankind when a global ban on gluten destroys his life. In the process, Alfredo Manicotti is disfigured into a hideous creature,...
