New York State of Mind
safenoe9 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A very absorbing instalment, with Jonathan Fraser's lies unravelling amidst the investigation of the brutal murder of Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis). It appears he never went to Cleveland for the medical conference, and he was terminated from his Hospital after inappropriate conduct with Elena.

New York is on major display here, with the Big Apple front and center in lies and mysteries.

Seriously, Edgar Ramirez (Detective Joe Mendoza) has a sort of resemblance to Enrico Colantoni if Enrico was hirsute.

stunning Nicole Kidman

David E Kelly is a wonderful writer and I've known this since Big Little Lies. But the DIRECTING and the ACTING are fantastic in this episode. I just can't say more than that. It's unexpected and unpredictable. The scenes with shocking factor are stunningly well-made. I outstand Lily Rabe and Hugh Grant as well. I think this is a big Emmy-contender show.

Brilliantly presented through Grace Fraser's perspective
rhythmoriented2 November 2020
After an absolutely compelling first episode, several reveals come at the most inopportune and unexpected times in episode 2. Production design and camera work are seamless, as viewed through the eyes of Grace (Nicole Kidman in yet another stunningly good performance). The dizzying effect of each important revelation taunts us into wondering what's next. Bravo, David E. Kelly on creating The Undoing, and for hiring director Susanne Bier and company for a production commensurate with the quality we have come to expect from HBO. This is our new addiction!

Intriguing.
TheFirst0129 November 2020
For people criticizing Nicole Kidman's "overacting", you gotta understand that this is all probably part of the plot. She once again carries this episode showing the "craziness" and "what is going on" in her character. This episode had a shocking final 5 minutes that showed Hugh Grant's acting chops and if you're a fan of "Ozymandias" from Breaking Bad you might see similarities in the final scene. There's still 4 more episodes left so we don't know the truth.

Lifetime movie? Seriously??
jendarden22 November 2020
I like to read reviews either during or after watching shows, movies, miniseries like this because often other people pick up on interesting details I may have missed. I am really surprised at several "Lifetime movie" comparisons. I get the feeling that might be because that mediocre quality shows might be the typical fare that some viewers choose to watch. This series has an outstanding cast, great filming and production and so far, a riveting story to tell. Far, far better than Lifetime movies. HBO and the Lifetime channel are not even of the same quality, ever, HBO being much much better.

Extremely annoying
alcorcrisan3 November 2020
I take this series as an image of contemporary society in the U.S., and it is extremely annoying. Endless innuendo and hypocrisy, people never saying what they actually mean, families living on a huge heap of deceit and hollow appearances. I am a recent fan of Nicole Kidman's acting, but here, especially as she is supposed to be a psychiatrist, I find it very odd that she has to behave in such an erratic manner. Ok, she is shocked that her husband is a consummate liar, but walking around in the middle of the street while babbling on her mobile phone as if trying to get herself run over by a passing car, or rummaging like a madwoman among his shirts and underthings, etc. do not seem to belong in here. And the flashbacks have become so cheap in recent years that they seem to trigger in me an instant reaction of rejection. Seriously?...

A gripping second episode with superb acting by Nicole Kidman who embodies her character with brilliance, especially shown in this episode. The atmosphere is suspenseful and mysterious, with more to come with that ending!

Best episode
alexis_clifton8 November 2020
One of the best episodes of TV I've seen!! This episode shocked me at every turn, Nicole Kidman plays grace so well and I feel she is the most real character I've seen in awhile. She is in true shock everything crumbling down around her. I love this episode and the way it ended was so dramatic I can't wait for more

Disappointing second episode
Just-A-Girl-143 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
90% of this episode was Grace behaving erratically, running around from one place to another. She looked like she was on the verge of a complete meltdown. On one hand it's understandable but on the other hand she is a psychiatrist so I expected her to be more composed and control herself. Especially since she has a son (who btw acted way better than her).

I was also disappointed with the ending of the episode. I was hoping Jonathan's disappearance would be better explained. A husband having an affair, finding his obsessive mistress dead is a bit too ordinary (or obvious?) to my liking. I guess because of all the hype I was expecting it to be more of a unique story. I was very convinced by his behavior on the first episode. He didn't seem to recognize Elena at all. In fact, the only person acting weird was Elena herself. Finding out she was his patient (or more precisely the mother of his patient) and that they had an affair is disappointing to me. Since "it's always the husband" as Sylvia repeatedly said, I was kind of expecting it for once not to be. And by that I mean, not to be a liar and a cheater. I don't believe he killed her. As of now I'm starting to think it was Grace (also too predictable). She is so erratic and with all those flashbacks it kinda make sense but either way I was hoping for something different.

I'm going to keep watching the show because I want to know what really happened there but as of now I'm thinking that some of it doesn't even make sense. For example, if Jonathan really found Elena dead then I find it hard to believe his response was to go back home, crawl into bed and sleep with his wife. And then what? Invent a conference in Cleveland, leave his phone behind, go on the run just to come back to his wife and son and say "hey you guys, I'm a liar and a cheater but not a murderer"? That's more insane than actually killing his obsessive mistress. I don't get it. What was the point of all this? I guess we'll have to wait and see. There will probably be some more twists and turns during the next few episodes but hopefully the focus would be on what really happened and not on Grace's feelings like in this episode. It was just too much.

Just... WOW
Littleman9520 February 2021
It's incredible how this episode is different from the first one. Mysterious, tensions, intrigues... it has all of this. I'm loving this show, really. It keeps you stick to the screen and your breath stops a lot of times.

Nicole Kidman is perfect for this dramatic shows, for this characters that are in a difficult situation. Amazing. I'm also liking Hugh Grant, he's not that bad (I don't know him, this is the first time I see him, I guess).

This is going to have twists and turns until the end.
raquelmachadofernandes2 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So in the first episode we are shown that Jonathan was probably having an affair with Elena. During the second episode everything strongly suggests that Grace is the one who killed her. But because they couln't give away righ in the second episode I believe this is going to have many twists and turns like a real life crime documentary. So as far as I am concerned the killer can be the blonde lawyer, Grace's father or even their kid. If we get to the end only to find out that it was Grace who did it, the writing on this is even worse than I thought.

Lifetime Movie-ish
hpcmakeup2 November 2020
Very slow. Lots of panicking and fake flashbacks. It's odd in NYC this murder would get all this attention. There's only the one storyline and the other characters are annoying. I'll give it one more episode to pick up. Not very good so far.

Gone wrong
globalisationana2 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Unless there is a final twist, something like the husband killed her because he was jealous, we already have all the details, and not in the best way. I found the revelations heavy, too many, and disconnected from the version we had last week. Nicole is a fine actress, but her face is less expressive now, and still it doesn't convey the shock of discovering the web of lies naturally and fails to seem relatable for the audience. At times it feels like a good series gone wrong, they don't sound credible, the plot is rare, and they don't act accordingly. I didn't understand Hugh Grant's character motivations, actions, and feelings. Three months? You should have known Grace!

Interesting but ..
renadkh-0597710 November 2020
I think there will be more plot twists the next four episodes and hopefully we will see what actually happened instead of fake flashbacks and focusing on grace's emotions which made you think she is the one who did it

Four more episodes?
ekmohlin2 November 2020
I loved the first episode, and just finished no 2. And Im a bit dissapointed.

I do hope ther will come some interesting plot twists, otherwise I don't know how they are going to fill the next 4 episodes. We more or less already know what happend, is the rest just going to be flashbacks and pictures of Kidman walking around in NY?

Predictable
melshasu7 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It feels like it's going to be a good series, but honestly the first 2 episodes reminds me so much of Big Little Lies. Nicole Kidman's character seems the same, with only some slight changes, and the setting too (a bunch of very rich parents who's social lives revolve around the school, they pretend their life is better than it actually is, and one of the parents died in mysterious circumstances). I'm really hoping it proves me wrong and ends up being different, but for now it it feels like I'm watching a spin-off of BLL.

The Missing
bobcobb30118 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Much better than the pilot. The show isn't great, but now I think things can start happening and the mystery can unfold. I was worried about the pilot that this was a bad Desperate Housewives or something, but thankfully they went in another direction.

The Missing

Warning: Spoilers
The Undoing: Já Devias Saber (2020)

Series

1st Season

Episode Two - The Missing

I've seen a lot of slow series (I like it when there's character development, but here it seems like there isn't), but a mystery series in which the Flashback and the protagonist's thoughts/imagination collide is the first time, and it's not something positive.

The protagonist's attitudes are quite strange towards the police, could she be bipolar, dual personality or just a bad script?

The script wants us to strongly believe that the husbands are to blame, it gets bizarre and bad.

90% of Lily Rabe's lines are her saying that it's her husbands' fault, she's just increasing the blame on them at the same time that it seems too obvious to be her.

The protagonist's son making up excuses for his father's disappearance at the beginning of this episode was weird.

Episode two of the first season of the Miniseries The Undoing: Já Devias Saber watched on May 19, 2024.

Rating: 3/10.

Pretentious for nothing
madSizzle2 November 2020
I really don't see why most of the people here are voting that seriously for this one. The acting is... Well, thank god there are the kids! The only good performance here comes from them. Probably Grant is not that bad either, but Kidman is barely capable of creating any emotion whit this highly botoxed face. She was a great actor once precisely because of her face's capacity to transmit a variety of emotions, but it now turned into a mask of vanity and rejection, that greatly reduce the performative potential of this show since it is she whos the dominant personage, at least for now.

The narrative, on the other hand, is quite predictive, it doesn't even deserve serious analysis. The cinematography has its good moments, but I cannot say it deserves higher praise, especially after the second episode.

Don't know if there's anything more to say. Give it a try if it's for free. But my advice is - don't waste your money and surely don't invest much of expectations.

The review
leonovamb1 May 2024
This TV drama is a good example of a short, but exciting thriller series. The action takes place in New-York in the family of a highly paid psychotherapist Grace and a seasoned pediatric oncologist Jonathan, portrayed by Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.

Grace appears to have a charmed life: she comes from an affluent family, she has a beloved husband, a bright son, and a successful career.

However, out of the blue, strange things start to happen. First, she encounters with Elena, a mother of her son's classmate, in several public places, and a few days later Elena is found bludgeoned to death. Meanwhile, Jonathan mysteriously disappears and becomes the main suspect in the eyes of the law, but the prosecutor doesn't have enough evidence... In this series, the costumes of the main characters are very well designed: Grace is elegantly dressed without appearing mediocre. Besides, there are quite a few details in the clothes of all the characters that are interesting to look at.

The interiors are also fascinating. For example, Grace's father house is located in an old striking building with a large hall, where he plays the white grand piano. The apartment also has a balcony on the top floor of a skyscraper with a view of the entire city.

I would also like to highlight that in this series there are a lot of psychologically complex and interesting secondary characters, whose lives intertwine and whose personal stories are fascinating to observe.

I would highly recommend this TV drama to those who don't have the patience to watch a long, monotonous series and who love thrillers and whodoneit movies, as well as drama and visually stunning shots.
