- The film's plot-- men looking for gold in the mountains only to have their search undone by greed, suspicion, paranoia, bandits, nature and other outside forces-- is a clear homage to John Huston's "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre". Also, one of the Vietnamese bandits who comes to steal the gold from the Bloods says "we don't need no stinkin' official badges", which is a take on the most iconic line from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre". Also, upon finding the gold, the Bloods dance in celebration in the same manner as Walter Huston's character did in the John Huston film.
