Station Eleven (2021)
unique, beautiful show full of heart and thought
This show was recommended to me by a friend. Of course small reviews and comments that I read before couldn't prepare me for this beautiful ride.
I loved the non-linear story, the cinematography, the music... but most of all the human touch. The pandemic was just a background and I never had a feeling it is connected in any way with recent covid experience.
It is magnificent story of humans, fate, chaos, accidents, good times and bad times... LOVE, without pushing any specific agenda too much.
There are very emotional moments that are so relatable, I could feel the pain of characters, their struggle, their missed opportunities and regrets...
All this wrapped in many layers of storytelling and great characters. I really loved Jeevan, his brother Frank, story of Tyler and of course Kirsten.
This show was very unique a special for me. In the flood of current cheesy and shallow shows, this was finally something for the brain!
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
6/10 wish this could deliver so much more
After finishing all 6 episodes and expecting similar ride as we had with the Mandalorian, I have to say for a big character as Obi-Wan, this was really underwhelming and sad to watch.
Sure it is nice to re-visit characters, connect it with ending of the 3rd star wars episode movie, the nostalgia was working.
Unfortunately, the storytelling and writing felt amateurish and cheap, even for me, as not huge SW fan. I wouldn't go that far to bash these TV series yet, complain about each element... yes Moses Ingram as Reva was not great, almost annoying and completely monotone in portrayal of her character, sometimes I felt the same towards little Leia...
The characters and story didn't have the heart and therefore it was hard to convince us emotionally. Over the top scenes, easy storyline solutions and plot holes just took away more joy for sure.
I might watch 2nd season for the SW nostalgia but if the writing and directing would not make a huge leap for better, I would not bother...
Ad Astra (2019)
dull slow burner
I was excited about this movie seeing a good reviews and loving science fiction, but... instead i kept thinking during the movie how each part visually looks like a complete rip of sci-fi movies like sunshine, interstellar or even the new blade runner.
visually not original at all and emotionally completely flat. i was waiting for the moment that would really grab my attention and i would finally start to enjoy the visuals, mood, story... that unfortunately never happened.
i also felt the story was bit predictable and some laws of physics questionable. i believe the story might have work better under different direction (?!).
Kalank (2019)
painful to watch
Bad direction, bad screenplay. visually nice with not great visually effects. actors are trying to lighten up feelings and interest for the story, but with bad direction and screenplay it is impossible. tv dramas can bring more fun and feelings than this.
Rabbit Hole (2010)
very slow, simple (weak) movie about sad period in our lives
first of all, it is very clear what happened after 5 minutes of the movie. you understand to all emotions and the logic in psychological level. after another 30 mins and few more details you pray for something to happen but still nothing... some scenes are lovely, funny, make you feel pretty relaxed but you are still waiting for something...
now few spoilers: i feel sorry for Becca (Nicole Kidman) but i can't see how she is terribly bored housewife not doing anything just waiting for a miracle. how many women in her position after same accident have the luxury stay home and do the same? in this case Howie (Aaron Eckhart) was very good husband and the burden was much more on himself...
there is only one cure for that kind of sad times in our lives, you wait until time heals at least the biggest tears so you can continue... that is all this movies is trying to say... no big story, no big ending... in this case also slow, boring... not deep enough to raise interest!!!
disappointment for me 6/10
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
prefer previous Hulk by Ang Lee
I am usually open and don't look for too much logic in this kind of movies but after seeing rating on this site I decided to make my own comment...
First of all this is not a bad movie and is quite fun with actors i really respect, but i can't help the feeling the story is not interesting enough with lot of pointless scenes just to show more CGI... All the relations between characters are just weak and u don't feel anything just want to see the end of movie, the final fight which is for me not satisfying.
I think Ang Lee added a special touch (more psychology) to the previous Hulk and maybe that was the reason why it was so criticised. For me this new version is on the same level as Fantastic 4 and I was truly disappointed...
I hope Louis Leterrier will show more of his talent on the forthcoming remake Clash of the Titans, favourite movie of my childhood!
