Dark Harvest (2023)
6/10
Can become a fun Halloween watch
6 March 2024
Honnestly? I enjoyed it, this movie doesn't take itself too seriously and the process revealing of the monster is disgusting enough to make me say « well, that's just a horrifying and a disgusting death ». I mean... poor kids!!

It's the kind of movie you watch with your friends on a horror night/Halloween with some good popcorn and comments.

I just wish there was a bit more substance on the background of the whole tradition, but it was well written enough to be clear/ did not take the audience for idiots. Quite frankly I liked the concept of « only boys » and specific rituals that have to be achieved for acquiring social status.

Spawn (1997)
7/10
Good adaptation for its decade
9 February 2023
For a 1997 movie, it's a good comicbook adaptation. I would give it more a 6/10, but it doesn't deserve to be so low in the ratings, hence my 7/10.

The writing could've been more developed even though it comes from the comics. There's some backgrounds that could be more detailed. I.e.: Cogliostro narrates but we could know a bit more about his role and purpose. (I also understand it's been made for the fans)

The FX are surely outdated, but to this day the makeup job is excellent especially for the Clown and Spawn's characters. As for the cgi, the permanent cape is very important-it's just iconic to Spawn- but I understand it was more a budget issue than anything. Some camera shots are gorgeous and very respectful of the comicbooks' artworks. The rest of his suit was on point. Speaking of Spawn, I didn't realize that when I was younger- but I think he's way more serious in the comics... some lines of the movie are just not what this character is supposed to be (solemn/formal).

General respect of the morbid and dark mood: 9/10 i would add more gore, as it's also what it's about.

Writing: 5/10 Makeup: 8/10 Character movie dev.: 6/10 Plot: 6/10 Screenplay: 6/10

I am still waiting for the sequel/remake, I really hope it's going to be made. Spawn is amongst my favorite 90s comicbooks, he's iconic, and a lot of movies are still approved and developed for far less. Crossing my fingers!!

The Bad Batch (2016)
7/10
Nice
1 February 2023
I am usually not a fan of movies that are particularly audio(music)-visual (i.e. : Malick's productions), but in this case I was very much so. To those commenting on the dialogues let's be honnest ; what would there be to talk and relate so much about in a post apocalyptic world ? Practically nothing. Because the basic needs would be too much at stake, hence the harsh beginning scene. The society is reduced to its bare minimum. It sets the mood from the get go.

It's about a girl that's a lot in her head and is trying to survive despite the horrors she goes through, trying to get a hold of the littlest goal she may DREAM of. :)) I enjoyed everything, and everybody that was in it. And frankly I also think this is a movie you could triple-enjoyed while being high as well (I weren't but you know.. just sayin'!) PS : I also loved the easter eggs towards society opinions (imagery and drug needs, money being litteraly burned, the panels.. etc)

Willow (2022–2023)
5/10
Nostalgia not respected
1 December 2022
I grew up with classics such as Willow. The designs, the music, it created a general gloomy ambiance... there is a spicy darkness that I couldn't find in the series, even after the first episode unfortunately. I don't know how to describe it, maybe it's just sparkles and hints that went WITH the anxious music back in the days. Maybe it's just badly written:(( Maybe I just can't with remastered songs to go with this.

Also, no Madmartigan, I have to admit it's hard... But I was glad to see Sorsha again!!

The show is MOSTLY for new fans, and the fact that it's not so much for the OG fans makes me even more resentful towards Disney, and George Lucas (who wold his soul).

You have to have a certain knowledge of some of the celebrities in the movie
10 August 2019
If you know the real fate of one of the characters (real one), the ending is touching, and actually very moving. I loved this movie, it represents a pure fantasy... this is the magic of a large part of cinema; hence the title. Even without knowing the celebrity's real fate, you can still appreciate the blinks (« homages ») towards some the realities of Hollywood (i. e. The struggle of maintaining a good and consistent acting career, the camera frame playing, action poses, differences if innocence in acting, iconography etc). Of course, Tarantino's violent end climax is for me, a classic. Bravo !

Midsommar (2019)
9/10
Had me shaken to my core
8 July 2019
Midsommar is brilliant in many ways ; whether we're talking about physical, emotional grief, suggestive or direct fright, colours, light, and finally, nature... I had a hard time to sleep, not because there are gore scenes (there are a few but it's not something major), but because this picture is a constant challenge to your deep ethical and personal values. Also, yes, the fact that Aster sets the movie in brought daylight is putting a major chocking factor.. I mean; when it starts you're either on denial that something bad's gonna happen or you just never see it coming. I was on denial... For example: There are small details that also play with your empathy, especially the screaming (animal or human), not just the paintings. I studied anthropology, I thought it was a good parody on some points. The end left me speechless: do we have to root for Dani, or should we have pity after everything that's happened?

Rocketman (I) (2019)

enjoyed it
1 June 2019
I was born in 1990. The very first time I heard Elton John's voice was in the Lion King. Thankfully my father is a great music lover and so he transferred this love to me. i sang pretty much all the songs in the movie theatre and compassionately cried at some moments... self identity is something that looks so easy to expose yet so hard to truly grasp as an adult, especially hard when you become famous. I loved the episodic musical tragedies; declining into drugs, suicide. I admire the message about love and self love.

Roswell, New Mexico (2019–2022)
10/10
loved the original and loving the new series
13 March 2019
I love the Roswell reboot. Don't get me wrong, since 1999 I'm hooked to the original series. I have all three seasons at home, bingewatching the whole thing every year or so. I feel nostalgia towards the 1999 series; the dialogues, the puns, the characters, the intertwined situations and the final plot.

BUT this reboot is MUCH more inclusive, the cast is also very interesting and believable, the plot is intriguing and frankly, I can't wait to see more after every episode ! I do feel Nathan Parsons and Jeanine Mason's chemistry, which is very important. I also love the fact that they're waiting to match these characters together, just like they waited 8 episodes or so in the original series for them to kiss. The fact that all characters are near their 30s is way cooler, as they know the audiance also grew up !

I really hope there will be many seasons to come.
