Rosetta (1999)
Intense.
I liked the film, it's a very honest portrayal of a young woman on the edge, who becomes numb to life. The beginning really hooks the viewer. The end is very sad, and I left the theatre feeling quite depressed. That is a sign of a great film, I think, very powerful.
Kill by Inches (1999)
A bizarre, chilling film.
I saw Kill By Inches at the Brussels International Fantasy Film Festival 2000 (last year) and I can say it was the most unique and stunningly original film there. Great cast of strange characters.
I was truly struck by the studied, chilling atmosphere and dark mood in this story of a young tailor (played by Emmanuel Salinger) who goes insane, inch by inch by inch, by degrees. Very singular, unique film, very rare to see these days.
Claire Dolan (1998)
Very well crafted film.
I've seen Claire Dolan in Paris in the theatre. It is a very brutal film, but also very powerful. I think that the director is talented, although the ending left me wanting a bit more. It's a very honest film about prostitution, and sometimes chillingly real. I was disturbed by the violence. It is very well done, with great, believable actors.
