Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Quite good
It has been a long time since I've seen this movie. I saw the DVD yesterday on a flee market, so I decided to go ahead and buy it.
After watching it again after such a long time, I still think this is a good comedy. The performance of Broderick, Jones and especially Alan Ruck are great.
The movie isn't hilarious all the time, but it has some really good (practical) jokes in it.
Especially the creative ways in which Ferris manages to skip school are well found.

Mutant Aliens (2001)
Pretty weird movie
I've seen this movie on the Holland Animation Festival last Friday. It was introduced by Bill Plympton himself. He warned us that is was 'a pretty weird movie (chuckles)', and how right he was!
He did fail to mention that his movie was not only 'pretty weird', but also hilarious, absurd, violent and sexist.
The whole setting seemed to be some aggrevated, distorted version of reality in which politicians, corporations and the media played a bizarre role.
I think everyone in the audience loved it, including myself. I can only say to you: Go see it!
School of Rock (2003)
Ok, but not very funny.
This movie is pretty much what you expect from a comedy, although I didn't laugh my a** off. The kids in the movie make it all a bit too cute, and it's about half an hour too long.
Jack Black's performance is great, but the plot is just a bit too thin to fill two hours of film.
Overall I'd advise you all to wait untill it's on video, and rent it on a rainy sunday afternoon.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
What about Indy?
I watched Atlantis, and I must say that it's action packed and fast paced. But... the script is very sloppy. There are a lot of loose ends here.
I had the notion that this picture left too little time to let the viewer get comfortable with the characters or the story. It took me about halfway the picture to figure out the setting was around 1914. ;-)
But what I found most striking was the resemblance with an adventure game from a few years back called 'Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis'. Certainly someone must've played this LucasArts beauty.
Not only is there a lot of resemblance between the plot of the movie and the one of the game (looking for a power source, set in pre-WW2), it also leaves no opening for a possible upcoming Indiana Jones movie. I'd have loved to see an IJ Atlantis movie!
Let's just hope people will forget about this one, so Spielberg/Lucas'll get their shot in a few years time.
Glen or Glenda (1953)
Just weird
I actually bought this movie on tape after I saw Tim Burton's excellent movie 'Ed Wood'. I must say that the film 'Glenn or Glenda' only seems to make any sense if you know anything about Ed Wood's background and state of mind. Having seen the Burton movie helps! Some parts of this flick were just plain hilarious. The stock footage with buffalos and ofcourse Bela Lugosi's strange lines ('Pull the string!!!') just make you laugh out loud. The rest of the movie is pretty down tempo and is told with a lot of voice overs... pretty boring actually. On the other hand, the subject that is chosen for this movie is so extremely weird for its time, that it was worth the money spending on the tape.
