The Whale (2022)
Amazing
This film talks about a man with obesity problems. This peace of art is emotional and sad. Also the format of the film is in 4:3. The director did a fantastic job choosing this format. It makes you more in the skin of the primary personage which includes a claustrophobic atmosphere.
The film maker makes an amazing job to make you stress and feel the emotion of the obese man named Charlie. This man didn't leave his appartement for a long time because of his condition. All the actors are amazing and implicated in their role. Even though this film is filled with sadness, Charlie is filled with positivity beyond his problems.
Also, it can be hard to see him deteriorate and destroy himself. It can really make you think about life and the problems others have. The film is almost completely filmed in the apartment of this sick man. This full-length feature also talks about literature and has some interesting critic of the famous novel Mobby Dick. The main character is an English teacher who teaches college students online. He turns off is camera because he is ashamed of being fat. He is intellectual, demanding and passionate
For conclusion, I recommend going see this film with someone that is close to your family so you can experience their problem and see that yours may not be that bad compared to others. You should go see this film 100%.
This film deserves an Oscar for the adapted screenplay award and all the cast should be nominated for acting. I give it 9.5/10.
Murina (2021)
You should see this film for yourself!
This movie tells a story of a family in Croatia. The daughter is the main character who wants to go to Harvard and struggles to have a good relationship with her dad.
I like how the relationship between the dad and the family is gradually getting worse and worse. The director made it obvious how the daughter (Murina) and wife (Nela) don't like the dad (Ante). The director did a good job to portray Murina's emotion
The first scene is calm, but after that it get's more tense as time goes by. You can feel the stress of seeing Murina and her dad holding their breath for long. Plus, Ante wanted to restrain her underwater.
Javier is a wealthy businessman who has a lot of money. Ante is a good friend with Javier and wants to sell his land. Javier is a master of sail boating. He traveled a lot for business. The dad didn't want Murina going to Harvard he wanted here to stay in the village to do spearfishing.
Javier was totally the opposite of Murina dad. He cared about Murina and Nela but, he still had is own family and couldn't help them escape Ante. He did care about people, and not necessarily the money.
I think you should watch this film for yourself. I am really impressed by the acting and the story. I am glad I saw this emotional movie movie! 9/10.
Ningen no jôken (1959)
The Human Condition Trilogy
The Human Condition is an extremely good and touching film. It talks about a lot of important questions for the human species. The actors showcase the appropriate emotions, and we can fell the situation they are going trough. The director succeeds in asking the big question. We are left questioning ourselves. Do you have food on your table? Do you get beat up by others? Do you have to supervise "slave labor"? Do you need prostitution to have pleasure? Do you have to sell your body to survive? Do you have to sell your "soul" or compromise your values? All of those are good questions.
In the human condition the principal idea is to see what human really need or/and like. This film is so interesting as a philosophical point of view. This personal idea is often in conflict with the powerful system in place, including the army, the government, the economy and the war.
I like how Kaji (the main actor) always think about is wife in rough situation, how he is always trying to treat others like you would like to be treated. The wife's character is strong and adding to the drama, even in her absence. The way he needed to hit people, so he doesn't get fired from is job is extremely sad. Hitting is literally against the book of Kaji.
This long journey sees Kaji go from one system to another, and they are all bad in different ways. I find this film expresses perfectly the idea that everybody is the same, so we need to treat people like human and not slave or subhuman.
I really recommend this film! A perfect mark of 10/10. Really great film!
È stata la mano di Dio (2021)
Beautiful Scenery, Joy, Sadness
These actors were unique in their way to think and act to different scenarios. Filippo Scotti did a good job to play the feeling of attraction and sadness. Paolo Sorrentino did well to put everything together with the various emotions and to play with the landscape, people, and comedy.
The couple first shots are bizarre: a man who knows a girl and she does not have a clue of who he is; a mysterious monk with powers; a couple fighting and screaming. There was a brunch, and it was funny. They were laughing and having good time in family. Fabietto was attracted to Patriza. The family is somewhat weird. In this film there is humor and drama. After the death of Fabietto's parents, he really changed and had different thoughts.
I think this film was a good amount of drama and joy, the perfect balance. They took sport a little bit too seriously and were getting too excited and angry. One of them even said that he was going to kill himself if Maradona wasn't chosen to play for Napoli's team.
I would give an 8 to this film.
tick, tick...BOOM! (2021)
Really Emotional and Funny Musical
The cast for this movie musical were well chosen. Andrew Garfield was good to show emotion when he sings. The other actors did a good job at acting and singing I particularly liked Michael role. I found that Lin-Manuel Miranda had a good way to incorporate the songs with Jonathan's life. Miranda had a great team of editors because the editing was superb.
I liked the beginning because Jonathan was explaining the title: Tick, Tick... BOOM! In this film there is a humorous side getting me exited to hear about the story of Jonathan.
I liked 30/90 because he explains that he does not want to get older. His songs explain well his life. I found Boho days special because of the beat and the location. He has a lot of sarcasm. I found the song Sunday the funniest. Before the song start the director did a good job to make it more stressful and build some tension. I like the Play Game because is a different hip hop style. I like when he sings about having not enough time and it's true that in everyone's life, we try to have more time but can't seem to find it.
This film is emotional and funny at the same time. Really good film and acting is top notch. The music made me think a bit of everyday life. Some music made me almost cry because it was deep. I am looking forward to listening to more songs by Jonathan Larson.
I give a solid 10 out 10.
Cosmos: Possible Worlds (2020)
Cosmos: possible world review
This third Cosmos series is extremely interesting and rich in content, as well as visuals. I find it "cool" that Cosmos: Possible Worlds were first started by Carl Sagan (the hero of Neil deGrasse Tyson) in 1980 and that Neil finished something that his hero started! The subject he explores are interesting and he talks with some often-comprehensible terms, to teach a wider audience, yet without losing the important details and scientific concepts.
Subject that I loved in the first and second epiosdes for instance are:
1) Alcubierre drive (a.k.a. The ship that goes faster then the speed of light). I found that weird that is not the ship that moves but the cosmos around it. Sucking space-time in front of it and expanding it at the end.
2) Voyager. I did not know that in Voyager 1 deep space probe was the brain signal of a women that fell in love. Also, I liked the comparison of the Nano-starship that will go to Proxima Centauri will take only 1 hour approximately.
3) The telescopic cosmic telescope. I found interesting that we can see mush more details on surface of planets, suns, moons and much more! Also, if we could go faster then the speed of light, we could see our past!
4) Jupiter moon's that will be in the habitable zone after the sun encompasses (eats) Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. That is because we could go live on a moon of another planet like Jupiter's Europa.
5) Proto-city Çatal Höyük (equalitarian) 900 years ago. Surprising that they all had the same house type and they needed to enter the house by the rooftop!
The graphics are incredible. The way Neil talks is inviting and the music by Alan Silvestri, who did all 26 episodes of last 2 Cosmos series with Neil, is very soothing. I definitively recommend it.
The Upside (2017)
Comparison of Original to Remake (Both Funny)
The Intouchables / The Upside (remake of "Intouchables")
The Upside is a movie directed by Neil Burger. The writer is Jon Hartmereis but his screenplay is based on The Intouchables, inspired by a true story. The two original writers of "Intouchables" are French writer/director duo Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano. The American version is staring Kevin Hart (a well-known stand-up comedian turned actor) as Dell Scott (the caregiver of Phillip Lacasse), Bryan Cranston (from Breaking Bad fame) as Phillip Lacasse (a paralysed person on a wheelchair), Nicole Kidman as Yvonne Pendleton, (Phillip's devoted personal assistance), Golshifteh Farahani as Maggie (Phillip's attractive physical trainer).
Dell and Phillipe have a good relationship between music, women, etcetera. In their relationship a lot of ups and downs happen. Phillipe has a surprise party organized by Yvonne, but Phillipe wanted to have nothing for his birthday. Phillipe ask dell to break things for him because he was mad and uncapable from his quadriplegic condition. I found this scene emotional and heartbreaking. This scene was one of the best improvements to the original French version.
Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano are a duo writer. Their 3 other popular film are C'est la vie! (2017), The Specials (2019) and Tellement proches (2009) which they all made together! Intouchables is the most well like by the public. The English version is funnier at times, while the French version is more emotional between the two main characters.
The Upside is a comedy. A lot of moment in The Upside has humor. The Intouchables and The Upside has still a lot of differences. In The Intouchables Driss (Dell in The Upside) likes Magalie (Yvone in The Upside) and flirts with here a lot. In The Upside Dell (Driss in The Intouchables) is making a lot of joke but Phillipe is more serious. But in The Intouchables the both are laughing and telling jokes more equally which makes for the stronger bond. It is a touching story, and fun that is based on a real life unlikely friendship like the Green Book.
I will rate both 9/10. I recommend them.
The Upside PG-13; 2h 6min; Comedy, Drama; 11 January 2019 (USA) Intouchables R; 1h 52min; Biography, Comedy, Drama; 2 November 2011 (France)
