Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores (2023)
Best I can give it is 5/10
I don't normally write reviews but I love this franchise and I think this is the first time they have missed the mark. A lot of what happens in this DLC confused me. I don't really get invested in relationships in media, whoever the writers and creators want the main character to end up with is fine with me but this storyline between Aloy and Seyka just felt forced and rushed, I'm not sure why they decided to condense their whole relationship into a DLC.
I feel their storyline would have been better if it played out over an entire full game or even multiple games like Forbidden West and the eventual third game. I feel like Aloy and Seyka being together at the end of the third game would be more believable. I get that Aloy doesn't have the best social/people skills and feeling that way is new to her and being nervous all the time and fumbling with her words is what the writers were going for but I just couldn't help but roll my eyes through all of Aloy's dialogue about Seyka. It sounded weird and cringe. Again everything about their relationship felt forced.
Another big thing that confuses me is the choice to leave Aloy's decision up to the players. I felt like the whole time they were trying to get the player to lean one way over the other. If that's what they were doing why leave it up to the player? Why not just make it official? What does this mean going into the third game? Is Seyka going to be a side quest character and you make decisions based on what you chose at the end of the Burning Shores? Will some people have a storyline where Aloy has a girlfriend while some don't? It seems clear to me the creative team wants Seyka to be a big character moving forward, so again, why leave it up to choice? What about the people who don't end up playing the DLC? If Seyka is heavily featured in the third game those players are going to be lost when she shows up based on how the main game ends.
I only write this because I am a big fan of the franchise and the decisions the creatives made just really confused me. It felt like a lot to try and squeeze into a DLC. I feel the story would have been better if it was just Far Zenith and the Horus. I don't know maybe it's just me but most of the DLC just felt off.
Monster House (2006)
Monster House
Once I found out about this was being made I had pretty high expectations for this, It didn't quite live up to them but I found it very enjoyable. I found myself smiling more than laughing during the film, there were a couple chuckles at a couple Chowder jokes. There were a couple scenes that could be a little intense for the youngsters but overall I think kids will find this more cool than scary. Oh the cus words from the clips that showed up on MySpace were cut out, I was a little bummed out about that. A solid cast did a good job especially the kids and great direction from Kenan. The animation of everything was great not the just house but that was the best part of the animation and the look of the film was great to, it had a very distinct look different from the animated films that we've been seeing lately that's what makes it stand out. I'm hoping the films legs will stabilize and families will go see this instead of "The Ant Bully" which didn't to well at the box office so that should die out quickly and there doesn't seem to be to much excitement for "Barnyard" so I'm crossing my fingers that "Monster House will creep towards the 100 million mark. I give it a solid B.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Dead Mans Chest, Overall Good
This is was my most anticipated movie of the year. It starts off a little slow but it's setting up the plot basically but when they get to the cannibal island thats where the fun picks up. The CG is amazing especially on Davy Jones and his crew, the first emergence of them and the Flying Dutchman is great. My favorite character of the film wasn't Jack Sparrow but Tia Dalma, she was great and lot of fun to watch. I came away a little disappointed with the film overall but I do love the surprise ending. At times I got into it and at times it felt really long. The scene after the credits is cute so stay all the way through the credits. The film basically sets up the third one (May 25, 2007) which after how this one ends and from the plot outline I read for "At Worlds End" it sounds bigger and better than "Dead Man's Chest" so I'm really looking forward to it. I heard Tia Dalma is in it more, I really hope she is. Early reports are that this made from $50-58 million on Friday, I hope these reports are true, even though I didn't like it as much as the first it deserves to set all the weekend records and be biggest movie of the year. My Grade - B+. But check it out and decide for yourselves.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
Pretty Good
(I guess a little spoiler about Sam and Laura)This movie was good. I can see what everyone is saying about the story and acting. I did find a couple bad lines but overall the acting was alright, as for the special effects, thats the best part of the movie, the tidal wave is much better in the theaters if gave me chills when I watched it. To get the fool effect you have to see it theaters, not illegally downloaded and watched on a small computer screen with Real One Player. The Sam and Laura love story is kinda cute they chase each other and Sam has to fight off another guy it's cute. I would recommend this movie.
But bottom line people DON'T TAKE IT SO SERIOUSLY it's just a movie you don't have to dissect every little thing wrong with the movie and complain about it. You don't go in and expect great Oscar winning acting and wonderful story lines in a big disaster movie, you go for the action and thats what this movie has great visual effects and exciting action. And another thing people are complaining about how unrealistic it is, thats the movie unrealistic things happening. Its Hollywood. Every movie is sped up to fit in its time frame so it can all fit in. This one got sped up 10,000 years so it can be exciting, we want to see people get swept away by tidal waves, and frozen instantly by a new ice age, we want to see things like this. So please shut up and say if you liked or didn't.
