Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Not a wonderful end
Rambo is an old man, looking for a new challenge. I know, I'll take on a Columbian Drug lord, sounds promising. First half of the movie is slow as Rambo goes looking for his grand daughter I think? Who cares. Rambo of course ticks off a Columbian Drug lord, goes back home and waits for main villain to show up with a small army. This idiot shows up w like 50 guys, are you kidding me?? I won't spoil the ending, but it's classic Rambo in God mode. 50 guys, what an insult!!!
Ok let's be real here, how long can an actor draw out a character, Rambo First Blood was released in 1982 so the answer is 37 years, why am I saying this, simple, Sylvester Stalone is now 73 so realistically he can't do now what he did 37 years ago, age creeps up on us all.
So with this in mind and paying respect to his age is Last Blood actually worth going to see?
The Zone of Interest (2023)
Director at his peak
It's a fine movie with solid elements and I completely understand the message they are attempting tonl convey. Duality of man, two sides of a coin, man's ability to be cruel, it's all there. I was looking for a hero of some sort and while the dog was a welcome distraction from the cold, there was one person who I'll not name who showed compassion but that narrative felt unfinished as well.
I know there is a good story in here and perhaps this was better told as a limited series but it felt like a lot of loose ends were left when the credits showed, but the point was made. I won't call this Oscar bait because it's much better than some of those movies "Maestro" comes to mind but not even sure this was best foreign film for me this year.
I'd struggle to rewatch this but I'd say it's a fine movie but I wouldn't hang my hat on this for a weekend night at the movies.
An Irish Angel (2024)
So Unexpectantly Astonishing
As far as coming of age movies go. I most certainly feel like this is a complete and total winner. The acting and performances especially from Todd Bell as Leo and the lead Aine was wonderful.
The Story line whilst familiar was handled incredibly well, should I say fantastic! I fell that I just had to give it the kudos it deserves. Thanks to the people who made this possible, for an independent movie it took a lot of risks which paid off.
It felt so real and so satisfying to see the all of the story threads coming together. Very Emotional at times and occasionally silly. Loved it!
Thanks again to the creators.
