I also enjoy crime series from Europe with Channel 4s 'Walter Presents' providing some excellent viewing.
I have an extensive and eclectic Blu Ray collection featuring mainly action and SciFi movies (I get bored easily which you might be able to tell from my reviews).

Stuber (2019)
Non Stop Laughs And Action
This film is a super fun, action packed, laugh a minute.
Bautista and Nanjani worked beautifully together, the mix of comedy and violence intertwines perfectly.
There are a great mix of characters in this creating a wonderfully hilarious action movie with Karen Gillan putting in a decent cameo appearance.
All Stu the Uber driver wants is someone to give him a five star rating but oh does he end up getting a lot more than that.
I recommend getting this one on the Christmas viewing list because technically it is a Crimbo movie (you'll see in the last scene).
Please can we have a Stuber 2 as these two are great to watch.
The Responder (2022)
Hard To Believe Storyline
I watched the first series and found it a bit hard going but decided to give the second a chance.
It has actually got worse.
According to this series most of Liverpools police force is dodgy or stupid or both with them getting themselves into ridiculous situations that beggar belief.
The characters are hard to like, the script just plain silly and far too much angst.
I gave up after three episodes of the second series as I found it just too far fetched.
The writers need to take a look at series like Blue Lights which has likeable characters, a decent storyline and which is beliveable.
One plus from it is the part played by Bernard Hill, RIP, who plays Chris's grumpy old dad to perfection.
The Red King (2024)
Quirky Weirdness
Although this series is basically a police drama with a case to solve the whole weird cult thing and the slightly creepy locals make this a bit different to the normal formula.
I'm not sure the welsh tourist board will be to enthralled with the idea that it has places where the locals are members of a religious cult and seem to be a few brain cells short of an amoeba.
Some class A hammy acting add to the fun and creepiness with the odd piece of gore to satisfy the horror lovers.
It isn't the fast paced sort of drama you get with modern police series, more a Midsommer Murders meets wicker man vibe.
All in all a decent binge watch and hopefully a second series will materialise.
The Lost City (2022)
Has Its Moments
I am sure Brad Pitt was glad he only had a cameo in this disappointing movie.
There are a few humourous moments throughout but overall it isn't an attention grabber.
Whoever decided Daniel Radcliffe should have an acting career after the Potter movies needs their head examined, every movie he has made since he is still the wet wizard, terrible acting and always looks nervous and out of his depth.
The acting as a whole is average at best although Pitts cameo was OK with some decent action.
In summary a bang average movie made worse by Radcliffe being in it, a lack of action, strained humour and a poor script.
Not one for the movie collection.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Enjoyable Sequel
Firstly, is it me or does Jennifer Connelly just get better looking as she gets older?
Now the film.
The action sequences are outstanding, the cinematography superb, the scenery just beautiful.
The story plays to the Americans vision of themselves as heroes with lots of angst and hugging and mutual backslapping on a job well done and all with a retro soundtrack from the likes of Kenny Loggins and David Bowie.
The young characters are clones of those from the original movie with similar attitudes and egos.
Apart from the schmaltzy mutual love shown amongst the characters this is a very good movie indeed.
The aerial sequences steal the show with Jennifer Connelly adding a huge dollop of glamour.
I dare you not to move in time to those F18s as you sit in your armchair watching this.
The Gentlemen (2024)
Funny, Brutal, Addictive
This series is an absolute cracker.
All actors are top notch.
The action fast and vicious.
Dialogue is menacing, abusive and extremely funny.
This is British style disorganised crime at its best.
Vinnie Jones looks like a thug no matter what part he plays but he still manages to do the gentle stuff with aplomb.
The chicken scene is comedy gold with the brutal end a great change of direction.
Best bit though is the gun toting old man chasing a coachload of tourists out of his country pile looking like a stark bollock naked Rambo screaming he didn't want lizards in his home.
If you like Guy Ritchies movies you will absolutely love this.
I can't recommend this highly enough.
Monster Hunter (2020)
Good But Not Great
Monster Hunter has a half decent plot to it for a monster movie and the two main characters give a good account of themselves with some good action scenes.
What didn't make sense to me was why only one large monster in all that sand!
The spiders come scorpion monsters were excellent and deserved more of a part in the movie.
Ron Perlman was excellent as usual while the rest of the supporting cast do what was needed of them.
What was disappointing was the end, those gunships fire hundreds of rounds a minute yet had no effect on the dragon creature, surely explosive rounds would have done the job of the one arrow with a stick of explosive on it better?
More of the large creature in the sand and maybe multiple dragons and a lot more gunships,SAMs and helicopters would have given an even better action ending.
Moonfall (2022)
Had the makings of an excellent disaster movie
I gave this a seven although not worth it but worth more than a six.
This had the makings of a cracking disaster movie, the out there plot, the Earth in peril, an over zealous military ready to nuke anything and everything and a reluctant hero but I feel it was let down by the slightly forced humour elements to it.
Special effects are good and the best acting coming from the supporting cast.
Kudos to Halle Berry for looking the part of a harrassed NASA analyst by foregoing excessive make up to make her look like a catwalk model while the main male characters look like they have just left their barbers even when they have been through hell.
It's worth watching if you can bear the cringey humour but not one I'd add to my Blu Ray collection.
Nobody (2021)
Absolutely Brutal
When I started watching this I was thinking oh here we go another movie about some saddos life of marital and worklife tedium.
Oh how wrong was I.
Once the lead character (Odenkirk is superb) snaps it is non stop action and bone crunching blood and brutality.
Think Michael Douglas's character in Falling Down merging with John Wick and you will have some idea of the main character in this cracking movie.
If you like your movies violent with blood, bullets and bone breaking then this is one that should definitely be on your watchlist.
Here's hoping Odenkirk gets another outing to entertain us all once more.
Reacher (2022)
Quality Action
Someone had the good grace to cast someone who actually fits the physical size of the character in the books.
The cast have excellent chemistry with Ritchson and co making this a very enjoyable view.
I have read most of Lee Childs' Reacher books and when they cast Cruise in the movies I thought someone was having a laugh, one of the Hemsworths would have been a better choice, so refreshing to find the TV series cast someone built for the role.
Alan Ritchson has come a long way from his bit part appearance in the X-Files all those years ago.
In summary, a well acted and action packed two series so far.
Bring on series three.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Too Much Angst
This started off slow and then it applied the brakes.
It had some decent action sequences but overall far too much banal dialogue to make it worth a second series in my opinion.
It was meant to be based on the movie but it failed to live up to it miserably.
The one saving grace for it is the appearance of Ron Perlman as a guest star.
This needed far more action and a lot less stupor inducing dialogue, The marriage guidance episode was one of the biggest piles of detritus I have witnessed in a long time, I felt like I had been lobotomised after viewing it!
If they get a second series they need to cut the boring angst ridden scenes and concentrate on entertaining the viewer.
