Kiralik Ask (2015)
Seriously annoying heroine, loooooong staring contest between characters
Defne has so many character flows that watching the show is cringe worthy and I rooted for her to be dumped all through the show.
The episodes are around 130 minutes and probably 65 minutes of that is looooong pauses , songs and staring contests between the characters.
Save your time, watch Erkenci Kus instead which is a better version of this one and the characters are more likable.
Spoilers:
She is lying to everyone from beginning to the end and not in a smart way either :)
In the first 52 episodes she's lying to Omer than after that she's lying to her family. She's supposed to be this bigwig executive who solves all issues at work yet in her personal life all she has are excuses after excuses on why she has to lie. The reasons she gives for lying are so pathetic. Whenever she's caught lying or is urged to confess her answer is "I was going to tell you.... but then I couldn't". Umm yeah, ok.
I understand that's the concept of the show, that the relationship is built on a lie but it's just not believable or endearing when Defne suffers. One of the worst female characters written, I don't understand how this show was so highly rated.
Siyah Beyaz Ask (2017)
Great acting makes up for the plot holes
Let me start by saying I loved this series but either the writers kept changing or they had dementia. With better writers and storyline it would have gotten a 10/10 from me but now only gets 7/10.
The writers introduced story lines and never followed up. I don't want to give too many spoilers but: Ebru and Sahin's story was left without resolution . They found out about "something about Ebru" and then jumped to another plot.
Same with Azad and his daughter . Who sent Ayhan the notes? Where did she disappear ? How's Azad suddenly stupid enough to be left alone with Cuneyt and Namik?
The storyline with Ozge was also very weak. She suddenly goes away with Vildan and someone like Ferhat lets them ? So against his character.
The list goes on and on ...
Then why did I give it a 7/10? Because of the main storyline and the actors. The relationships between the characters was solid. Not just Ferhat and Asli but also the supporting characters. The acting was superb. I've never watched Ibrahim Celikkol or Birce Akalay before this show and now I'm a big fan of both.
The way Ibrahim controls his facial muscles is amazing. You literally see a different face on episode 17 when he finally relaxes. When he's angry you can see the veins pop up on his face and neck . He expresses his emotions so well that the audience feels his heartache and his tears.
Same with Birce Akalay. She expresses her suffering , tears, love, joy spotlessly. You feel for her all through the show. She's a great actor .
All in all , would I recommend the show? Absolutely! The story between Ferhat and Asli is epic. It just could have been better :)
Inadina Ask (2015)
Bad series with no ending but Can Yaman is in it so it gets a 4 instead of 2.
I have to be honest, I only started to watch it because of Can Yaman and suffered through 32 episodes (not 12) for Can and Acelya. I didn't know Acelya before watching this show and she really grew on me. She's very cute and has good comedic timing.
First of all, the series has no ending. The 32nd episode ends like there should be a 33rd episode but there isn't. It's really quite insulting to the viewer as the last episode has a lot of non-sense scenes in it yet they couldn't manage to shoot a scene where they could have tied up the loose ends.
The characters are not written in a way to connect with the audience (except for Yalin and Defne). There's an Ezgi character with no redeemable qualities whose plot line drags on and on. Most of the other characters are a joke but an annoying joke, not a funny one.
My recommendation: Watch it for Can Yaman And Acelya Toplaoglu with your thumb on the forward button :) When they are not in the scene, just skip it.
Günesi Gördüm (2009)
A winner
I lived in Turkey when Mahsun Kirmizigul was a folk(arabesk) singer then I moved away...
I'm a rock/hip hop woman, I never paid much attention to him; always thought his kind of music was "beneath me". How elitist, how inconsiderate of me!
I moved back to Turkey 2 months ago from US and I watched "Gunesi Gordum" today...
Mahsun Kirmizigul won my respect, my admiration today...
Gunesi Gordum is an amazing movie. Every scene in the movie, every actor is spot on. It touches extremely sensitive subjects in Turkey and comes out a winner.
This movie makes you cry for the terrorists' family AND for the soldier that died defending his country. A son is a son. That's what this movie shows you without politicizing it.
It makes you see the pain of the homophobic brother facing the transvestite brother.
It makes you see how "privileged" you are while a big part of your country / world is just trying to HOLD ON....
Thank you Mahsun for this movie. I really hope you get the recognition you deserve.
