The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
Could have been so much better.
I couldn't wait to see this. I read the book & loved it. But It was honestly the worst movie I've seen in a while. It was so choppy, didn't explain why anything was happening really (everyone with me who hadn't read the book, was so lost - esp towards the end). I was so frustrated. I knew what was going on because I read the book. But I still got confused watching this movie. There was NO chemistry between Snow & Lucy - they didn't spend enough time on developing their relationship. The ending was a rushed mess. Truly Very disappointing. The Only bright spot was Tom Blyth as Snow - he was excellent.
Mr. Robot (2015)
Perfection.
I can't believe it took me so long to watch this show & part of me wishes I never had. I just want to experience it all for the first time - again. Having said that, I think rewatching will be just as rewarding but in a different way. The series as a whole was pretty flawless. I mean, was it preachy? Sometimes. Were there questions unanswered? Sure. But really - there isn't much wrong with this show. It touched my heart in a deep way - I won't ever forget it. Thank you to everyone involved in creating this masterpiece!
The Thing About Pam (2022)
Black comedy? Yes....but also much more
I turned this on by chance - it was literally for noise while I worked, so my dogs would stop barking at the roofers working on a house across the street from me. However- I got sucked in. Yes - the first few can seem disrespectful or tacky or both. After I finished the whole series, I thought maybe they weren't going for funny or even dark humor. I think maybe the whole case is so truly & literally unbelievable that they had to do it the way they did so people would realize how RIDICULOUS it is. I mean, it made it clear who the real monster is and rightfully placed the blame squarely on Ms Askey's & the investigator's shoulders. I felt the horror of it ALL - more so than I would have if it had been a drama or even a documentary. I do think Renee Zellweger was fantastic- but I did cringe......until I saw the real Pam Hupp in action. Keith Morrison's narration is ok - but I can see how it would be off-putting to some people. Overall- it's a great show! Just go in with an open mind - but if you know you don't like dark humor I would advise you to not watch it.
